Those polenta bites OMG!!! I may order that and a salad and make it a meal! That balsamic reduction and sauce, was soo yummy! I ordered the steak frites as a main course, and ohhhh man its garlicky!!! No kisses after that dish! The steak was tender and the fries were still crispy even in the sauce. It had huge pieces of shaved cheese and it was delicious! But lots of garlic, if you're not a fan don't order this! It's more garlic than anything! I also ordered the mango mojito and it was good, a little kick in it too. I asked for more mango when I placed the order so not sure if mine was sweeter than the average but that's how I like it! Sweet! We sat on the roof top, it got a little hot since it's noon. But the nice cool breeze made it pleasant. I believe the waitress said there was live music on Tuesday and fridays. The patios are set with lights so I'm sure it's beautiful at night! Oh and heads up, the shrimp and bacon Mac isn't that spicy. I've been here many times and the service is always great, as is the food. For appetizers, the blistered shishitos, beef totchos and the chipotle queso is delicious. The burgers, duck confit jambalaya, shrimp and bacon mac and poke bowls are excellent. The only thing I don't care for is the falafel burger; the falafel is delicious but the avocado and tahini is so thin that it's dry. The food at this restaurant is amazing. You totally need to eat here .... We went in around noon on a Sunday and chose to be seated inside. The outside seating had a lot more people, and the patio vibe looked like more fun - but we were hot from being outdoors all morning. The indoor area is decorated kind of sparsely, and very basic. Tables, booths, framed artwork. I personally really like their sister restaurant - The Post - and think they would go for the same ambiance? I would not want to eat out at The Roost for a fun date if it weren't for the yummy food. So - our food runners were very friendly and upbeat. Our server smelled like cigarette smoke, and I didn't quite know how to take him. My daughter thought he was rude - I really don't know what to say. I asked for a brunch menu and he said he was going to tell me about he brunch menu if I would let him talk. I don't think I was being too chatty. I didn't interrupt him. It was a very odd interaction. Enough said! Onto the food. I can't stop thinking about the "bang'in cauliflower". After we ate it I wanted to order more. We also got the bowl of "blistered shishitos"/peppers - also great. Our third appetizer was pork tostadas - very good. These were all on the happy hour menu, which is available all day on Sundays. We ended up trying the cucumber fizz - it was okay. And also the "Hobo" - we liked it better. The Hobo has whiskey and ginger beer with bitters and lime juice. I would order this drink again. For lunch we were going to split something but couldn't agree on what to order. Ultimately the hamburger was crazy delicious and my spicy beef tacos were incredible. I talked about The Roost at work later this week and my manager said the Thai Pork Tacos are out of this world as well as the Short Rib Sandwich. Special note: these meals come with a side salad or soup. We chose the side salads. Most restaurants' side salads are puny. NOT HERE! You can pick a side salad from the salad part of the menu, and they do not disappoint! We will definitely go back. Hopefully we will get another waiter. Used to be my favorite place to eat. Apparently they have a new kitchen manager or chef or something (can't remember what the waiter said)... and it really shows. The menu is now a mish-mash of random trendy sounding items. There's no real theme or even a particular type of food. It's all over the place. We almost got up to leave because of the changes. I made the unfortunate decision to stay. I ordered a pretzel appetizer. It was $12 and what I got was a fist sized pretzel and LITERALLY 5 SLICES of sausage. Honestly I would've been fine with the baby pretzel, but how are you going to cut corners SO hard that you can't afford to put a single sausage link on the plate? 5 thin slices, though? Nah. Try again. Not to mention the hummus on the plate was bland. Politely told the waiter my feelings (he's asked)... and he took it personally for some reason. W/e. So then my husband ordered a Cuban sandwich and I ordered the shrimp mac n cheese. The sandwich was weak and bad. It just didn't taste good. The mac n cheese was somewhat tolerable, but there is a very strong cheese in there, and it overpowers the entire dish. And I also learned that shrimp definitely does not belong in mac n cheese. So that was disappointing as well. Anyway, I'll spend $60 elsewhere next time. Hopefully I can figure out where their old kitchen staff went. read more

Positively scrumptious! Loved the food and atmosphere. Our waitress Sid was friendly and quick. I had the steak frites which were amazing! Their beef is local and you can taste the freshness. The frites were perfectly cooked and the right amount of crunch. The other half got the California burrito and said it was delicious, especially enjoyed the guac inside. I just moved to Longmont so I have to try all of the local staples so of course my tasting tour of Longmont had to make a stop at The Roost. For entrees I went with the classic steak frites and the spare ribs. Starting with the steak frites, the steak was cooked perfectly and was soft. It came stacked on top a bed of shoestring fries and a slightly sweet tasting sauce. I'm not sure what the sauce was but I could have done without it. It was just strangely sweet and didn't pair well with the steak or the fries. I also could have done without the pile of green onion on top of the steak frites, it did not add flavor. Next the spare ribs. First. I have to say that the star of this plate was the beets. The spare ribs were a little dry but the gravy that was paired with the ribs definitely saved it. Out of the two dishes, I loved the spare ribs a lot more. Lastly, desserts! I went with the chocolate soufflé. I was shocked with the soufflé arrived at the table because it was not a soufflé. It was more like a dense chocolate cake with a blood orange mousse on top. Honestly, it looked like a cheesecake. However, the blood orange mousse was heavenly! One more star for the Roost, for a few delicious reasons. First of all: SpRoUts. Sadly, the godly Brussels are only a special now, but I lucked out on this particular day. The Roost, hands down, achieves the BEST Brussels sprout texture of any place I've been. They were golden and gloriously, gloriously crispy - even more so than my staples at the Pumphouse (and my old ones back home at Rosebud in Massachusetts). They need to be a main menu item again. Star-increaser number two: the jalapeno margarita. My mouth burned with delight - literally and figuratively - and the sweet tang among the spice made it one of the best cocktails I've ever experienced. Give me some salt on the rim, and we'd be in nirvana territory. Why not five, though? Well, the Roost is lovely, but I would consider the dishes to be hit or near-hit. The short rib, for example, still reminds me of plain ol' brown gravy, and the carrot cake remains kinda dry :( (those pecans on it are still amazing, though. And I appreciate the extra cream cheese frosting!) . Losing the giant cookie from the menu also made me very sad (shame on whatever amateurs couldn't finish it and might have motivated this change! Hah!) At any rate, The Roost is a good bet for a nice date and a mind-blowing marg. This Cake Consul may yet return, even if just for that. read more

Came here on a Saturday night with some friends who recommended it. It was pretty crowded, since the art walk was going on that night, but we had a reservation. They were able to accommodate one extra person in our group, which was appreciated. The space is large and kind of "fancy for Longmont"-ish. However, I felt the food left a bit to be desired. One of my dining companions really enjoyed her cocktail with jalapeno in it, so perhaps I should have stuck to the cocktail menu. I ordered a beer, and the beer list was just ok. Nothing really stood out as a wow. We ordered the queso which came with chips. Chips were pretty good and seemed freshly made. Queso was standard, nothing exciting. The menu is sort of all over the place and feels like it doesn't know what it wants to be. There's Asian fusion, Tex-Mex, Cajun, Cuban, steaks, sandwiches. Maybe pick one style and really knock it out of the ballpark? I ordered the duck confit jambalaya and....well....I've had jambalaya in New Orleans and this was not jambalaya. It was super dry rice with cajun seasoning and some Holy Trinity, some not spicy sausage, and a big piece of duck on top. Duck confit was fine, but no way would the rest of this pass as jambalaya. No spice and too dry. Two of my friends ordered the steak. They thought it was fine, but the addition of sriracha hollandaise is just odd. A good steak doesn't need to be covered in white gloopy sauce. Service was fine, a little harried, but it was a busy night. I think The Roost has lots of potential, but they need to focus their menu on a cuisine and do that really well. read more

We were planning our trip to CO and decided to find one of Guy's Triple D (Diners, Drive-ins and Dives) for one of our meals. We spent the night in Longmont and went to The Roost. I did not think it fit into any of the Triple D categories. It was such a nice restaurant - definitely not a Dive. It was large with a roof top bar. Our waiter, Mike, was great - super friendly and knowledgeable. We ended up not eating what Guy featured on the show but what we had was excellent. We had a happy hour appetizer of Thai pork tacos that I could have eaten more of. They were mouth watering! My husband had the short rib tacos for his entree and he loved them. My dinner was amazing. I had the 60 South salmon but it was not over fried rice like the menu said. It was over the most incredible Israeli couscous salad with chickpeas, tomatoes and red peppers and the lightest, most flavorful dressing. We typically don't have dessert but after Mike told us about the carrot cake with ice cream and caramel sauce, we decided to split one. Three of us could have eaten this dessert; however, we did not leave a morsel! And we did not eat again until the next day at lunch. For drink, two of my friends ordered Coffee & Cigarettes and I got Roost Draft Cosmo. Satisfied!! We ate classic ceaser, chicken and quinoa, scallops prosciutto mango, and steak! Made an advance reservation for patio day in advance, based on their site directions (my only option was to pick bar, main, or patio, I chose patio) but when I arrived, I was seated in main dining room. When asked why I was being seated where I did not request or reserve well in advance to sit, I was told by hostess it was "out of her hands" and that a last minute party had been given MY reservation instead. She acted like she didnt care. What is happening to good service these days? Workers expect 25% now in tips, but want to do as little as possible? Next, as if I was now being punished for being shocked as to my seating arrangement, the waiter proceeded to wait 20 minutes ( I was first table and most openly available and easy to get to table, mind you) before I had to hail him down for a drink. Dont bother making reservations (and expect to pay $10 for 4 swallow pour). Common courtesy is "out of their hands" it seems. Used to be classy place, but seems to have become all about pumping people in and out, rather than providing good service. There are plenty of existing as well as new places going up in Longmont that are more than willing to provide good service and good food. Try one of those instead. You wont regret it. read more
