An oasis among a town that seems to have not much to it, the Roost was a gem to find. Parking was easy, wifi was available, and there was ample seating to grab a table quickly. We chose the outside area, which was a delight patio. Their menu had a lot of options. Reasonably priced I was able to get two things. I went with the toasted pecan waffle and a myoOmlette (sausage, asparagus, mushrooms, and goat cheese) it comes with a side of chimichurri fries and arugula salad. My hubs got egg sandwich and sunrise salad. Delicious! Large portions! Fresh ingredients! The toasted pecans were chopped up and spread throughout the waffle so each bite was filled with ingredients. It was fluffy, warm, with yummy side butter and syrup. The omelette was so much larger than my eggspectation. The ingredients were cooked with care, clearly fresh and not canned veggies, the goat cheese was spread throughout so each bite was ideal. The fries were crunchy. They put the sauce on perfectly for no sog. The salad was a unique nice addition to the dish making it stand out. The salad had a lot of shredded cheese, it was overwhelming - he had to take some off but luckily he had the egg sandwich to add to. And the bun was a good bun. Wish we lived closer to eat again. I picked this spot randomly to meet up with my dad for dinner. The restaurant is small but comfortable and cozy. We got the jalapeño poppers and the loaded potato soup as our appetizers. The jalapeño poppers were amazing, we never had anything like them. The loaded potato soup was also full of flavor, it was definitely homemade. We also got the black bean burrito and the BLAT with a Caesar salad. Both dishes were delicious and we ate everything! Lastly, for dessert, we got walnut bread pudding. I'm typically not a fan of bread pudding but I liked this one. Our server Johnathan was very nice and tentative. He gave us good food recommendations and stayed to have a small chat at times. We came as a party of 10 adults & 2 kids for breakfast/brunch a little after 10 on a Sunday morning. We only waited for like 5 minutes before we were seated, which I feel like we lucked out with! Our server Melinda was so sweet and took great care of us- she was so attentive and contributed to our great experience here! The bellinis had nice pours & all of the food was spectacular! The chimmichuri that came on the home fries was so flavorful and delicious! I tried the waffles and they were so good! The syrup was so fresh and tasted amazing. People were raving about the fried chicken that came with the waffles but I didn't try it. Even the salad that came with my eggs was fantastic. The restaurant was at full capacity (30 diners) the whole time we were there, which should be very telling! The coffee was great and I loved the pulp orange juice. I want to give this place ZERO stars. Not because they are terrible but because it's marvelous and it won't be long before getting a table anytime on any day will be impossible. The word of this magical place won't be kept a secret much longer. They get busier every time I go. I call this place the next "Phoenicia Diner". Unlike that tourist trap this place keeps its integrity. Every dish is carefully crafted. It's not just pastrami hash. It's a dish that someone cares about. Barbacoa and Eggs is something to admire before eating. Last week I had an Italian sandwich that was a dinner special and it should not have been that delicious outside of Brooklyn. The Nashville Hot chicken will have you wondering who's Grandma is in that kitchen kicking out the perfection. Now please don't tell your friends about this gem. This was the most delicious brunch we've had in a long time. After enjoying a nice fattie, we walked into a relatively empty and super cool spot. We were greeted by a knowledgeable (and adorable!) server who answered all of our questions about the menu item and brought us the tastiest chicken and waffles and Monte Cristo we've had in a long time. The delicious house made raspberry jam was easy to spread over everything. We stayed long enough that the place filled up around us and we got to enjoy some of the local flavor. A small and very warm place, with a comfortable New Paltz vibe,hipster Boykin soda fountain, a cool selection of beer and wine, and really fresh ingredients. The solo performance by the waitress who I learned was named Traci was truly something to behold, as she welcomed at least three locals at different times by name. She even remembered that one guy ate very well the last time he was in, so he should have no problem with the stuffed pepper special he ordered. My wife an I stopped there after a hike at Mohonk. My wife had a well made local stout beer, and I had some of their fresh ground Stumptown coffee. Great. I had grilled salmon on Caesar-dressed mixed greens. My wife had the ahi tuna on wilted kale. (Honestly, the ahi was a little dry but revitalized nicely with a dip in the wasabi mayo. We had a side of fries that were fresh cut with skin on, shoestring. The cheerfulness of Traci, who had nothing but nice things to say about the owners, the cleanliness of the kitchen, and the deliciousness of the food is worth another shout out. This meal was a spiritual experience. We found The Roost while driving back to Kingston after swimming in Lake Minnewaska. By the time we reached Stone Ridge, we were famished and just looking for a quick bite. Our meal started with the house salad with the tangy herb dressing. The greens were so fresh & fluffy -- like straight from the garden. The tahini-based dressing was perfection, so we bought a bottle to take home. My salmon entree was every bit as good as the one we had a few nights earlier at a fancy Rhinebeck spot for $20 more. It was cooked to a perfect medium and served with tasty sauteed potatoes and bright baby kale. My husband loved his falafel tacos. We enjoyed these offerings in the homey dining room while the radio played The Smiths and Depeche Mode. Win! read more

I had the breakfast enchiladas which were layers of gooey cheese and onions stacked between soft chewy tortillas and a savory flavorful sauce topped with a dollop of sour cream. Stopped in here while staying in the area. Much to our disappointment while searching diner-type restaurants in the area, most places close insanely early, even for a small town. (4pm? The Roost popped up and I saw that it was open til 9...check, and was highly rated...check. The interior is cute, and they have Boylan's Soda on tap - always a plus. My husband got the 3 piece fried chicken and I got the grilled salmon sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious. It's a shame we didn't come about 2 or 3 hours earlier. They serve breakfast until 3pm and a lot of stuff on that menu sounded daaaaamn tasty. We'll keep that in mind for when we're in the area again ;) read more

My favorite restaurant in town. Best food for a fair price. Everything is home-made even the hot sauce. The coffee is always fresh and ground right before brewing. Breakfast is delicious and there are so many good choices. I love the small green salad that comes with most breakfasts. The soda machine is Boylan's, not the usual Coca-Cola or PepsiCo, and all the options are really good. Inside you'll find a clean room with photographs of local nature scenes. After a really dismal and depressing event a town over me and the Mrs. just wanted to get the hell out of Dodge but we knew we wouldn't get that far on an empty stomach. You walk in and it felt like we were in my usual neck of the woods - Downtown Jersey City or Montclair - really cool artwork on the walls, everything having that hip(ster) vibe where the crew cares about what they're doing and know they're doing it well. They started us off with a complimentary plate of peanut butter and banana mini-muffins. Then when the Stumptown Coffee arrived I was pretty sure this place was 5-star material. The Mrs. is an omlette snob but she devoured hers and kept figuring out reasons we could make the 2-hour trek from home to hit this spot. For me their 'Roost Chicken Fried Chicken' was dynamite... I never saw (or tasted) such unique home fries that are like these crazy delicious super seasoned French fries that were hit with by a shrink ray. The chicken was perfect, the gravy slathered on top was awesome. The greens on the side was a perfect accompaniment. The... (okay, you get the hint that I loved every bite) The staff just needs a few more visible tattoos and they could open an outpost in North Jersey and make a killing. This is a delightful place to have breakfast. We sat at the bar and were waited on by a very friendly and capable staff. We definitely felt welcome. The food is done better than your average breakfast place including vegan options. Coffee is ground in front of you and is quite delicious. I enjoyed the experience and recommend it. The eggs were seasoned and cooked perfectly, the home fries had this seasoning I've never tried before and were absolutely DELICIOUS, and the dressing on the greens was to die for. The second: I ordered the chicken & waffles. First time ever eating chicken & waffles and it was the best first experience. Chicken was hot and crispy and the waffles were so soft and fluffy. The maple syrup was a great touch. Delicious! The third: My bf ordered the cinnamon pancakes and sausage. He loved his meal! Two huge pancakes and two jumbo sausage links! This was easily the highlight of my weekend stay in the northern Catskills. It was recommended to me by my air bnb host and the food exceeded expectations. Everything was extremely fresh and all of it was well made. The chef is clearly creative. The green shakshuka was such an interesting take and the eggs were so fresh. They make the hot chocolate in the chocolate milk, and although my waiter claimed the orange juice was not fresh pressed, it seems they bought it from somewhere that does. Probably locally from the taste. Pastrami hash was an innovative idea that worked well. The poke wrap was so fresh. The avocado inside not a hint of brown. The tater tots were evenly cooked. It didn't taste as if it had been frozen for months. Our young server was great on Saturday early morning. We regret not going here more than once on our trip. We should've. And kudos to the chef! Amazing food. The prices also are the most affordable I've ever seen. I was blown away by the prices on the menu and on our check. Can't wait to come here again when I'm in the area. Just be careful with your planning, as our food certainly slowed down our post-meal hike. Quality: The challenge of The Roost is selecting what you want to eat. There was not a single item on the menu that I wouldn't be happy to order. In the end we settled on the Pork Skillet and the Pancakes With Raspberry Ricotta, savory and sweet. The Pork Skillet comes with a buttermilk biscuit covered in sausage gravy, bacon, and scrambled eggs. While I could have used a bit more bacon, still an excellent way to start the day. The Pancakes With Raspberry Ricotta are not the most picturesque, but once you smear the ricotta and soak in syrup, it more than makes up for its looks. Quantity: Generous helpings of filing dishes. Value: $11 for the Pork Skillet. $11 for the Pancakes With Raspberry Ricotta. Ambiance: The Roost is located in the small town of Stone Ridge in Upstate New York. I expected a diner, but it has a much more homey charm. Outside they have a wrap-around porch with several tables. Inside they have a breakfast bar in the corner that is surrounded by tables. They are at reduced capacity, but still managed to make good use of the space. The walls inside are covered with blackboards filled with even more delicious sounding food items, if the menu was not enough. And music played quietly in the background, but was mostly drowned out by some shouting children. Crowd: Constantly busy breakfast spot. Inside and outside tables were both filled and I watched at least five different individuals grab food to-go. Service: The kitchen is lightning fast. We stopped by to grab lunch at The Roost based on a recommendation from a local. A cute little cafe with a great aroma as soon as you walk through the door. There were many items on the menu that sounded delicious. I went with the burger. The burger was actually cooked to the temperature I requested which is a rarity nowadays. The fries were very tasty.
