Cozy place! We stopped here for breakfast one morning, as we were staying in Rockaway. Cute little place, menu had some good (but limited) options. Pastries looked really good, but did not indulge. Coffee was also good. I got the breakfast bowl, my husband the burrito, and my daughter got a bagel. Only complaint is that seating was as little tight...I know they're going for mismatched/shabby chic. Looks like they've moved locations since we were there, and more spacious. We were looking for breakfast and the 2 spots we went to were slammed so we kept driving and saw this place. The service was ultra friendly and the overall feeling was a small homey kind of place. Stopped here on a Thursday morning around 8:30am, Wanda's in Nehalem already had people waiting outside and this spot was less than 10 min away. Review is for gluten free food options and coffee. Stopped in on a stop of the Oregon Coast Scenic Railway. This is one of the only options for grabbing a coffee and snacks in Wheeler. They had a pastry case with about 5 types of pastries and 3 hot breakfast options and zero options that could be made gluten free. I ended up ordering 2 Americanos for my husband and I and they were less than mediocre. The espresso was acidic and bitter and I only drank a few sips before throwing it out. If you are gluten free, don't bother even going in. read more

Everything here was quite lovely! What to expect: It's a small place with counter service. They prepare each order as they come so food may take a bit but it's worth it! A group of us came from Portland (huge coffee snobs) so it's hard to find coffee we like, plus so many of the shops we went to were closed so we almost gave up, and found this place. Came in, was a sweet homey vibe , like a living room. To be honest we had low expectations in such a small town, but we were all very pleasantly surprised. We loved the coffee, impressed with the beans. I asked for a warm/tepid latte, and usually that detail is forgotten but temp was perfect!! Thank you so much! A four star rating is being generous considering the unfriendly attitude of the barista/counter order intake lady. She is better suited for work that doesn't involve public interaction. My coffee drink was good, but not outstanding. It was more expensive than Starbucks. The food did look amazing, but there are very few if any gluten free options on the regular menu. So, I was unable to sample it. I may not return due to the unacceptable server's attitude. She did not have a hint of a smile and didn't say thank you or anything of a pleasant nature. I prefer to spend money at businesses that express appreciation for my purchases, no matter how small. I have worked in the retail sector and was trained to be courteous and pleasant with customers. Unfortunately, this lady must not have received such training and/or doesn't understand or value the importance of customer relations. It doesn't cost anything to be kind, just a little effort. I'm not sure if I want a second dose of this mediocre behavior. read more

We spent $50 and purchased two scones, one coffee, one tea, and two breakfast sandwiches the size of your fist. The quality was good when it came to the food, but it wasn't filling and was rather small. We also waited over 45 mins to receive this food, but we were expecting longer wait times over the weekend. It was alright, but nothing special and still expensive. Will I be back??? Probably not. read more

The Roost is back open in a new location, just a block from the old one. This locals' favorite is a great place to grab homemade soup, a sandwich and/or some coffee. Breakfast sandwiches are available too. Just a block off Hwy 101, it's an easy stop if you're driving up the coast. There's more outdoor seating at the new location, or you can walk across the highway to the park and enjoy views of Nehalem Bay. Occasionally we stay at the Old Wheeler (haunted) Hotel.. really! It was fun! In the southwest corner on the first floor with outside access there is this very cool place called the ROOST. Fun people and a very relaxed pace/environment. Great breakfast sandwiches and decent coffee. Kind of a fun place to start your morning. read more

Love this little coffee spot! My husband and I were searching for a relaxing lunch place close to where we are staying in Rockaway and The Roost had good reviews so we checked it out. Adorable outside and inside environment. Very limited seating but it's a pretty small space so makes sense. They are pretty limited in their flavors. My husband got a redbull and I had coffee. The drinks were decent. For lunch I had the egg bowl and that was really good! Simple and tasty. My husband had the French dip and said it tasted delicious. Super sweet service. Went there this morning for a Latte. The woman behind the counter was curt. She took my order and had one coffee in front of mine. As people walked in the door she would stop in the middle of making the coffee order and take their orders, then proceed to start the coffee rider. Only to be interrupted Making the coffee by the next walk in. The worst part was she would grab the cups holding them with her fingers inside of them and kept rubbing her nose. She never washed her hands between orders using the register and making coffees. The latte was average. read more

I'm sorry I did not take photos of yesterday's lunch at the Roost in Wheeler. My friend and I split the Egg Salad with Bacon on whole wheat bread which came with a side of crinkle chips. The egg salad is topped with pieces of bacon large enough that they add a lot of crunch and savory bacon goodness. The whole wheat bread was toasted so crunchy but not too. Rich with nuts and grains. A delicious combo. For dessert we shared a Raspberry Braid. OMG! Very rich with raspberries and crispy. So good and buttery. I haven't been to The Roost for awhile but I'm reminded that it's a great breakfast alternative in the area. read more

I stayed at the Old wheeler Hotel, and I luckily got across this lovely little and amazing coffee shop. Everything home made. I came my three days I stayed to have a morning coffee/hot chocolate and I just wish I could take this coffee shop with me back home.
