I have probably driven by the Elderberry Inn a hundred times on my way to and from the Oregon coast. Well, curiosity finally got the best of me, so I decided to stop in. Ample seating both inside and outside in a dark cabin/lodge with a separate bar area...This place was a vibe! You can also spend the night in the inn or in your camper if you want. I pretty much had the place to myself when I arrived, so the service was great. I ordered the Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger with fries. The burger was amazing and tasted like it had been made on a bbq grill, perfectly cooked! The fries also came out nice and warm. I will definitely visit more often on the way back from the beach! read more

Wow - so unexpected but their clam chowder is incredible! I was like do they import this from Mo's or something? If you're passing through the area, you should stop by the elderberry Inn and have a bowl of their clam chowder or grab a bite to eat. It was so good that I forgot to take a photo of it before I finished it! It was nice and thick had tons of clams in it and came with a few packs of delicious oyster, crackers. Edit: I've been to Mo's now and I can confidently say that this clam chowder was better and had more clams than Mo's. It's worth stopping by! read more

Had the biscuits and gravy combo meal. Sausage patty was decent, eggs were spot on. However the gravy was not for me. Some may like it, just not my style. I like a traditional sausage gravy. My wife had the chili and the broasted chicken. She enjoyed her meal. She also had a margarita which she thoroughly enjoyed. Will be going back and trying more items. Service was good. Where do I begin? They must have new owners. The prices are outrageous. The lunch menu averages $20 for sandwiches. My Cobb salad was $23. The Rueben was on small sandwich bread. Prices are too high for diner food. The menu hasn't changed since new ownership except they vetoed some items. I'd recommend driving five minute up to Camp 18 for better food for the right price and superior customer service. When we went into The Elderberry, we were left standing an awkwardly long while before being seated (we were the only ones there), handed menus before she retreated back to the bar without a single word. Owner is combative and unprofessional, accusing me of being racist because of unfavorable review. Tourist, there are reasonably priced and delicious alternatives. read more

I grew up in Portland so I would come here as a kid on beach trips. I just visited from NYC, and came here. I was coming just for the old fashion environment and expecting regular mid diner fair. I went once on the way to beach and twice in wya back( we staying at the inn) everything we got was delicious pulled pork..broasted chicken..corned beef hash. On top of that Everybody we encountered the servers, the new chef and management all so friendly and hospitable. The food quality was better than standard diner food. Waitress was amazing but only person there. Saw what looked like the manager with an earpiece in playing with the keno machine and talking the whole time we were there with the 1 person in the bar. As a retired contractor i travel the state alot doing pro Bono, or next to nothing for family and friends. I eat out alot and the Elderberry Inn has gone through many changes over the last few years. However, I am a meat and potatoes guy and I had a dish last night that made my taste buds dance like Fred Astaire, my tongue did the Michael Jackson moonwalk and after the first bite I was drooling love and satisfaction like Pavlovs dog. I was a Romanian Sausage plate called Mich (spelling in question). The skin was well cooked and at first glance appeared to be over done. That was not the case! The Chef taught me Romanian custom to eat the sausage with 2 bamboo spears, to dip in mustard sauce and after that first bite I not only tasted the best blend of spices but I saw Heaven. The texture was on the mark for sausage and the spices were totally in agreement with one another and introduced me to a whole new taste in meats. Definitely a dish to rank among the top and is very compatible with a nice cold beer or a glass of chilled wine. read more

I will never eat at Elderberry again. The food had no taste whatsoever, even after adding lots of salt and pepper. I should have gotten over my embarrassment and said to take it back. We had the chicken fried steak. It taste like they use old grease to fry the hashbrowns, they use no seasoning and I mean no seasoning for the chicken fried steak and the gravy was obviously made with one percent milk or even water as it was breaking apart. This too had no flavor. I have never eaten at a restaurant that does not incorporate some type of spices. Get your stuff together, especially with your prices, it's ridiculous. Hopefully you take this into consideration as your company is not going to continue. read more

My friend & I randomly stopped here on the way to the coast for camping with 3 dogs and we enjoyed it so much, we stopped again on the way back & this time brought friends and yet another dog! Not only was the food good (I always have to try a place's benedict & this didn't disappoint!), but everyone was so accommodating with our dogs including bringing out a huge bowl filled with ice water. I have driven past this landmark over 60 years and finally stopped to check it out. Timing always seemed off as it was never time for a meal, closed or we already had other dining plans. Today, it was almost noon and my appetite was ready for a good meal after returning from a quick doctor's visit in Portland. The restaurant had a welcoming old time diner feel and I found my way through the doors to the counter. Smaller and cozy inside than I expected, but clean and inviting. After looking at the whole menu and being informed breakfast is served until 2, that sounded perfect! I ordered my standard bacon and eggs over medium, hashbrowns and no toast. The eggs were cooked perfect, the bacon was meaty and flavorful with just the right amount of fat. The hashbrowns were crispy and plentiful. All in all this plate took care of my empty spot. Service was friendly and my water was kept full. Before leaving, I checked out the restroom located in back by the much larger bar area and appreciated all of the old postcards, pictures and memorabilia when this timber area restaurant was young. We were heading to the coast and looking for a breakfast stop. I'd never been but my husband ate back in the early 80s. It wasn't too busy when we showed up but before we left it had gotten more customer. Our waitress was welcoming, quick and efficient. We ordered drinks and meals right away. I ordered my go to - Eggs Benedict, my husband ordered Biscuits & Gravy, and my teenage daughter ordered a "pancake" - which was smart because it's humongous! I loved that egg Benedict had a thick slice of ham & crispy English muffin...The side of bacon was scrumptious. Hands down though was my husband's biscuits & gravy. The gravy had the best flavor I've ever had & biscuit was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. I would highly recommend stopping here if traveling down Hwy 26 - westbound. A hidden gem. The staff are never too busy to check on you and make sure your needs are met. This is a 'If you know, you know' location. The restaurant is clean, with booths and tables for larger groups. The restaurant has a great selection of everything from steak bites to cabbage rolls, and something for the kids! I loved to see the restaurant was open conveniently till 10 PM in the bar, had came for dinner earlier and a drink after eight on our way home, also coming here all the time this fall I've seen that they are always maintaining a very accessible and clean restroom. The food is on point! Fresh and super delicious quality crafted,. As well as well seasoned, and made with care this food was always hitting the spot on a cold fall day like today the chili was spectacular. They have a good sized menu and always have a great special that's seasonal and tasty. Super amazing that they have a number of burgers to chose from that have become my go to's. Theres good quantity of everything-especially fries, and other tasty appetizers. They also have a nice dessert menu, with the marrionberry milkshake being my favorite of all time, that was by far my highlight in every visit. The kids got the best cinnamon roll as we left. The burgers and other dishes aren't small, so bring an appetite with you. They will beat any food chain as the meat is always fresh and well cooked. The only thing better than the burgers was the lounge like atmosphere, with fun history facts throughout. I'm a way this place is both; a laid back family friendly vibe and a good place for a night out for a drink at the bar. Love the service here, evening chats with locals and bartenders will keep ya coming back for a memorable night. serves food thats going bad, doesnt have a liqueur license, and the owner is awful. she assaults her staff verbally and physically in front of customers. overpriced, staff underpaid, and straight up rude. watched the owner bring out the wrong food to a customer and yell when asked for the correct order. I've eaten breakfast here a number of times, and the service is always friendly, the food is always tasty and plentiful and the prices are reasonable. Absolutely try the biscuit. It is a meal unto itself. I hear the marionberry pie is to die for. Last time in, my wife had the tuna melt with tater tots...loved it! And the attached bar is ALWAYS busy...don't know why, but figured it's worth mentioning. Highly recommended! p.s. they serve breakfast until 2pm. read more

This place has been here forever and has always been "ok" if not a lot better than just ok. We eat here several times a year, usually when we are coming back from a day at the coast. I dunno if the place has changed owners again but whatever happened they have really stepped up their game over the past several years. The food has always been very good and the wait staff has always been top-notch. Very reasonable prices especially since the portions are generous. But they have made some changes to their clam chowder and it is now excellent. I am from the east coast and very much a chowder snob. The Elderberry isn't the best I've ever had but it is right up there in the top ten. And I'm talking the best in the World.... not the best in Oregon. Their Reuben is to die for and even though it's not on the menu (but is an occasional "special") the cook will make one for you if he has the fixings on hand. The deserts are ok although for us anything with sugar in it is a rare treat. There are better pie venues around if that's all you want. But their pies are prit-T-good. read more
