Went here for weekend lunch and sat at the bar with my lovely wife. She ordered the Mediterranean Chicken Pasta Salad off the specials menu. It was delicious! The souvlaki chicken that it came with was juicy and flavorful. I ordered the Fried Shrimp Tacos from the appetizers and was pleased I did. Surprisingly good. They came with chips and salsa there were not an afterthought. They were as good as most Mexican places I've eaten. By the way, we were there about 2:00 in the afternoon. There was one young lady that was handling the bar and entire floor service and doing it well. I complimented her on her abilities. My wife picked this and I was glad she did. My wife and I dined @ Raven Gastropub last Saturday for lunch. We arrived about 12:45 to a disturbingly empty restaurant. The ambiance was EA Poe themed and my wife loved that. We were promptly greeted by the one man running the front of the house that day and sat at a high-top in the bar area. Not a huge beer selection, but they had a couple we liked. My wife had her heart set on the Rueben sandwich based on the pictures on yelp, and I ordered a chicken sandwich. My chicken was good, about what I expected, but my wife was a little disappointed. When her Rueben arrived, it did not look anything like the pictures posted on Yelp about a month ago by the Owner. The portion of meat on the actual sandwich my wife was served was about 25% of what is shown in the picture. I know owner pictures are staged and made pretty, but I think they should at least closely resemble what comes out of the kitchen. That was not the case the day we dined at Raven Gastropub. I wish I would have taken a picture to post, but I did not. My wife did say the flavor of the sandwich was good, just disappointed with the serving and presentation. We love the Raven! This is one of my parents go-tos to take out or dine in while in Arizona. Since I have a 2 year old, we stuck to ordering it to-go on this particular visit. One of the reasons we love it so much is because the food is good. Even though it's bar food, it's slightly elevated, lots of great options, and it's just overall a solid spot! To-go orders travel well and are packaged nicely. Some items we love from Raven are the fried pickles, the raven burger, and the reuben. You've gotta try the raven sauce when you visit, we always ask for extra sides of it because it's so good! I also prefer the sweet potato fries as my go-to side, they are so good here. We came in after a nearly 7 mile hike and need to refuel. We sat at the bar and the servers were very nice an we chatted about the menu and they were very helpful. We ordered a side Caesar salad and a Cuban sandwich with fries and split both. What was great was that they split the sandwich for us in the kitchen and brought out a second bowl for the salad. The fries are outstanding. Relatively thin and quite crispy!! The sandwich was full of all the correct ingredients except they pressed without any butter on the outside. Probably to keep a "cleaner" when eating the sandwich, however you lose so much flavor by not using the butter on the outside. That would've made it a 10 out of 10 because it was nice and warm and had plenty of filling. They could use one of those white wax papers around the sandwich cut it and you wouldn't get grease on your fingers and that way they could press it with the butter! The Caesar was very tasty, seemed like the croutons were made in house and the dressing had a slight note of anchovy as it should. Nice shavings on the cheese. Plenty for two as a side. The ambience is clubby and dark and I imagine in the evenings the place can get pretty full. The menu is extensive. We will likely return after another long hike! read more

We came here for drinks before our dinner reservation, and this place was great! I really enjoyed the Poe themed decor, and it wasn't very busy on this particular Saturday evening. We sat at the bar and Jasmine took care of us. She was very friendly and made delicious drinks. I decided to try the Black Raven cocktail and it tasted like a tart cherry lemonade. Very refreshing, and not too sweet. This place also offers food and if we hadn't already had dinner reservations elsewhere, I probably would have ordered from here. Met the in-laws here for dinner on two separate occasions. The atmosphere is pleasant and conducive to good conversation. The service is excellent. The food is also quite delicious. First time had the fish and chips very well done even served it with malted vinegar which is a must for me. The second time we visited I had the fried pickles and the open faced turkey sandwich. The pickles are meant to be shared and were tasty. The turkey was definitely freshly roasted and generously served. Had enough to take home. It was absolutely the best chicken salad we have ever had at a restaurant. I had sweet potato fries. We also ordered the home made slaw. It was so sweet tangy and rich all in one. It is a must try. This gastropub is tucked into a quiet corner of North Scottsdale, but it's clear that owner Brian is putting real effort into making this place something special. I went for the advertised Classic Burger with fries--all the way, just like they suggested. Toasted bun, American cheese, done medium-well (hey, I'm from the Midwest). It was cooked perfectly, juicy without being messy, and built with care. No shortcuts here. My wife ordered the Cheeseburger with cremini mushrooms and Swiss cheese, finished with a red wine demi-glacé that was downright elegant. Done medium, just as she asked, and spot-on. Rich flavor, great texture, and just a touch of finesse you don't always get with a burger. Being a Midwesterner, I also asked for a half order of the fried pickles--couldn't resist. They were crispy, not greasy, and the dipping sauce had just the right kick. Great starter or side. No dessert this time, but we'll be back for that--and for the t-shirt Brian promises is on the way. We have been to this restaurant many times in the past but the last two times we have had food quality concerns and will no longer be going. Two times ago my husband got severely sick and had horrible food poisoning from one of the burgers. We thought maybe it was a fluke thing and tried it again tonight and when I got my chicken, it was raw on the inside. This is now twice there have been food safety issues. I've been here three times in the past two weeks and it's always a pleasant experience. The staff checks in on you frequently and the food is consistently good. The small patio is nice during the day and the high tops near the bar are a good spot too. Shout out to Nick, who was especially friendly and attentive one evening when my husband and I came in 15 minutes before the kitchen closed (at 8 pm). We enjoyed our meal without feeling rushed. From the burgers, Ruben, chicken salad, tuna, and southwest salad to the coleslaw everything is always great. Raven is also our new 'go to' for wings. Raven is consistently great as is the service. Would love to give them 4.5 stars but, what can you do. There were 7 of us for lunch on Friday and when we arrived there were a couple of tables and the was it. Thought it would be busier but that is fine. We were in no hurry, just a big family visiting. But since there were hardly anyone there, the food service was slow. No biggie. The wait staff was really nice and helpful. We had a variety of entrees but a couple of things to point out. We ordered the wings as an appetizer, buffalo. They were really good. Nice and crispy, great flavor! I ordered the fish and chips for lunch because I have been craving it for some time and the pics from previous reviews solidified my pick. Everything was nice and hot, the chips (fries) were fresh and hot, delicious. The slaw was interestingly good. The fish I am still wondering about. It seemed fresh out of the fryer but was soft, almost mushy. It still tasted good. I guess the jury is still out on that one. Will have to try it again to see if it was a one off situation. First time customer at Raven, and a friend and I went for happy hour at 4pm on Wednesday. There was no wait but several tables were marked reserved. We were greeted promptly and allowed to choose a booth. The bar area looked very inviting, but my friend doesn't care for high top tables. Booth was clean and comfy, server was friendly and gave us plenty of time while checking back frequently. Happy hour includes $2 off appetizers, wine, beer and specialty cocktails ($15 and up). I had a house chardonnay which was pleasant. We visited for awhile then ordered two fish tacos plates and a pear spinach salad. Our server offered to split the salad which was appreciated. He also asked if we wanted it to come out as a starter before the tacos, and we did. Small detail many servers miss is pacing the meal appropriately so entrees don't get cold while salad is consumed. This meal was paced perfectly. The pear spinach salad had candied walnuts, feta (lightly applied by request) and a shallot vinaigrette. I didn't taste the shallots but it was a nice mild champagne vinaigrette. The pears were crunchy but not unripe, and the spinach was fresh. Blackened fish tacos were served 2 to a plate with chips and salsa. Blackened seasoning was excellent and notably not salty. Taco had corn salsa and cabbage plus the house raven sauce. I let the chef apply the sauce to my tacos, but friend asked for sauce on the side. I probably should have done the same because there was quite a lot of sauce in the tacos. Although I didn't notice the separate flavor so much in the taco, the raven sauce is sweet as a chip dip. I would have preferred a Chipotle ranch, and will order tacos without raven sauce next time. The fish was nice meaty chunks in really excellent fresh griddled corn tortillas. Salsa was a bit too hot for the average palate. Chips were thin and crispy, clearly fresh also. Check was split and quickly returned with our credit cards. Waters were kept filled, more drinks offered, a textbook good server! I like the feel of this place, it's a little like channeling Edgar Allan Poe for awhile by studying the decor. Certainly not a rowdy pub at 4 on a Wednesday, but obviously they have a bunch of regular customers (I spoke to some when passing through the bar to the restroom, they recommended the stuffed chicken). read more
