After shopping up a storm at TJs. We had to go eat something other than the food we bought right. Tacos today- no, hot dogs-no, hmmm chicken - always a Yes! Google said they were close by and off we went. We found street parking before we made our turn and luckily the spot was still there. We were immediately greeted and welcomed by the guy also in the bar area (So sorry we didnt ask your name). We were seated and offered a carafe of water and glasses and menus. He also served us From the names on the menu, I knew I was about to enjoy. We chose sandwiches. The Lady Marmalade for me and the Nashville chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado added for the Mr.. And fries of course! So these aren't your basic chicken sandwiches. These were gourmet, top shelf, if you will. Sandwiches where you come up with various combinations of things except they did it for you. The Marmalade- bacon, cheese, honey mustard, red onion Marmalade and that chicken! Flavor explosion. And the bun husy buttery soft and fresh. This is not something I want to even attempt to recreate. I will just come back. The Nashville- that bacon and avocado took it to another level. Delicious with the cool and creamy avocado. It doesn't come with cheese and was great on its own but what if you add some?....go and find out! Fries- we ordered regular and the cluckin hot. We both got hot and that's OK I was up to the challenge. It had a heat that sneaks up on you. Tasty. They have several Sauces for the tenders next time I'll try some for dipping. We ordered drinks after we started eating. We decided on Mocktails because hey someone had to be a safe driver and driver assistant. Lavender Butterfly and Watermelon Breeze. Both were so good but that lavender drink!!!+ Perfect combination of all the things- lemonade, purple pea, lavender, and that lemon on top. Just look at it. Pretty! Get one! Watermelon had watermelon in it of course. Can't wait to come back and try the fried chicken! And the mac! We had a great visit. Thank you!

Only checked out the lower level which serves the Sando's which are some of the BEST I've ever had! I've been here many times to sample the various options and if a place get's their most basic grilled/fried chicken sandwich done right, you know they do everything else spectacularly as well! This place does NOT disappoint! Even the ambiance and interior design when you first walk in is cozy and feels upscale, yet prices are your standard lunch deals. From what I can tell, everything is made fresh, including their bread and sauces. A great stop on your day walking down King Street!

Waiting for some yummy food to come to the table!

This was a nice place with a casual vibe and great food. They're partnered with Hen Quarter upstairs, so you can get something from either menu. The Rub seemed a bit more casual than Hen Quarter and we had our kids with us, so my wife and I decided to hang down here. Order your food at the counter, get a number, and they'll bring the food and drinks to you, and they're pretty quick about it. I got a pretty decent Old Fashioned and would get it again. For food from the Rub, my wife got the Lady Marmalade sandwich, which was really tasty. I like chicken and waffles, so I opted for the Waf Waf Chicky Chicky, which was okay, but I felt like the waffle sandwich didn't blend with the yummy ingredients inside. Kiddos got some chicken tenders. All of these can be customized to four different spice levels, from Wimpy to Cluckin Hot. The simple "Hot" was good enough for me. From upstairs, we ordered the skillet cornbread and a charcuterie platter. Everyone at the table enjoyed the charcuterie platter; good cheeses, meats, spreads, and pickles. Would get again. The cornbread was just okay. It was tasty, but I think it could have used more honey butter drizzled on top or on the side; it was mostly concentrated in the center. Overall, a solid place to get a good meal.

Quick service, good and tasteful fried chicken. I did find it a bit on the pricier side thou. Ordered the Cuban sandwich which comes with a piece of fried chicken in a very soft buttery bun. The place was pretty busy even though I ordered to go. Staff attentive!

I've been here other times for a ladie's day out and have really enjoyed it. This time, my husband and I came for a date night. The restaurant just started to get popping around 745, which was snice because we had seats at the bar, and people were starting to fill in for dinner and drinks. Food is fresh, great flavor and the play on names for the entrees are fun and funny. I do wish my waffle sandwich was a little hotter in temperature UT other than that it was all great. Will deff be back

After walking in the neighborhood, I decided to drop in to The Rub for a bite to eat before heading back to NY. I had the entire place to myself, that's never happened before but I truly enjoyed it. The gentleman that took my order was very nice and friendly. He hails from Long Island and we both gave each other a high five after he mentioned that. I love the ambiance of this place because it's peaceful and unhurried. The restaurant has a casual vibe as well. This location houses two businesses, The Rub Chicken & Beer and Hen Quarter. The Rub is on the lower level and Hen Quarter is on the upper level. Now let me delve into the food review. I ordered The Fricken chicken sandwich, fries, and a lemonade. I also added bacon and avocado to my sandwich as suggested by my server. It truly was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed eating my sandwich very much. The fries were amazing which were sprinkled with a little paprika, yummy goodness! Overall, I'm pleased that I made the decision to dine at the Rub. Next time, I'm in the area or passing through Virginia, I will stop by and grab some food.

We stopped here because my kid wanted some Nashville chicken and we were close by. The inside has limited seating and there's another restaurant upstairs that uses the same entrance. We got 3 orders of chicken tenders, 2 orders of fries and 3 drinks for $47.10. The lemonade is just ok, but my husband said sweet tea was really sweet and good. The fries were ok. They came with some kind of sauce that smelled a little like mayo. My daughter loved it. However, she thought the Nashville sauce was way too hot. My BBQ sauce was good, but too clumpy. The chicken tenders were very good and fresh. Those were our favorite. Staff was friendly and we enjoyed our lunch.

The Fricken Good & Waf Waf Chicky Chicky & Jalapeno Cheddar Hushpuppies

Went to The Rub for the first time, sat at the bar at early dinner time. Simple little dining and bar area underneath Hen Quarter in Old Town. Ordered the "Fricken Good" and "Waf Waf Chicky Chicky" and jalapeño hushpuppy ball app. You will think the Fricken Good is an A+ chicken sandwich. You will be right and you will be happy with your choice. Excellent sandwich. And then you will try the (unfortunately named?) Waf Waf Chicky Chicky and know that it doesn't even fit the grading scale. Like it's a A+++ and then some. Maybe it's best to have both as a counterpoint to each other. Stupid good chicken sandwich. Went at an off hour so don't know how packed this gets at a real mealtime and if the staff can keep up or if it's weird being the entrance to Hen Quarter, but the chicken sandwiches are killer.

Came here because a food blog said this was the best Hot Chicken in the DMV. Boy were they WRONG! The cashier made it seem like it would be extremely spicy, but the heat was just okay. The overall sandwich was somewhat small and sorta dry in texture. Maybe if I was an Alexandria local who stayed within my Alexandria bubble, I would rate this place higher, but I have tried every Hot Chicken in the DMV. WooBoi, Hot Chikn Kitchn, Roaming Rooster, and Hot Lola's would like a word. Not bad, but they have some pretty large shoes to fill.

This is my second time eating here. My friend and I were walking around old town starving, we saw this place and decided to check it out. I ordered the fricken good chicken sandwich and some hush puppies. The sandwich was good, the chicken was kind of bland to me, I feel like it needed more seasoning. Sauces don't cover up bland meat in my opinion. This sandwich has a ranch sauce on it. The hush puppies were really good. I think they were jalepeno and cheddar.

The Krispy Chicken Collab, in all it's glory!

It is rare when you find a place where the food is as good as the service. The food here is delicious with a capital W. The service is also top notch. We came in after a flight to the area. Hadn't eaten for 7hrs and had already scoped the place out. We walked in, ordered and within 10 minutes we had our food and drinks in front of us. Unheard of!!! The Nashville sandwiches were spot on. Perfect amount of spice on the chicken and sweetness with the slaw. Bread was soft and warm too. We also had the tenders and the Krispy Chicken Collab (a donut and chicken sandwich). Everyone walked away happy and satisfied... with room for dessert. All in all. Great place. Great service and great chicken!

Overall the Nashville sandwich and sweet potato fries were overall good. The ambiance was basic. The type of place where you wouldn't mind trying once but won't be running back. The service was good but the cashier could have been better. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt but I'm going to give you a honest review.

I figured I could get past being cold if the food was at least good, but the pretzel was dry and hard. They didn't offer beer cheese which was a bummer, so I tried queso and buffalo chicken dips. The dips were yummy despite the lame pretzel. The cherry on top was that the service sucked. The guy working the rooftop bar seemed miserable, like he would've rather been anywhere else. He was rude and snarky when we asked questions about the menu and made us feel like an inconvenience when we asked for to-go boxes. We will not be back.

It came nicely presented with a very good coleslaw and a biscuit with a side of bacon-flavored gravy. The mac and cheese was okay but the macaroni underneath the surface didn't have a lot of flavor. The chicken's seasoning and texture were fine, but I really wish when a restaurant says they have fried chicken it's more than just a filet, like actual bone-in meat. But Chadwick's just does a filet as so many other places do these days. The server forgot my clam chowder starter and it didn't come out until after I had already received my chicken.
