We have been using Rig works for years, and recommend them to everyone! Starting from Donna, who is very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, and calls a few days after the carpet has been cleaned, to check if any stains surfaced back ( which we never experienced). Then Roberto, who is a wonderful man, and very skilled at his job, and does above and beyond to make any carpet looking as good as new! Had a number of staged homes for sale, called several rug cleaning co.s for quotes and estimates. Rug Works, was given, 3 homes, to give estimates, addresses and combos for lock boxes. Results were as given: 1. Way overpriced, over 4 other bids submitted by vendors. 25-40% higher than 3rd high priced rug cleaning co. 2. Estimating team, made up of 2 individuals, one man and one woman, were captured on hidden surveillance cameras, in the three homes, violating their fiduciary responsibility to our clients, homes: 3. Violation of the sanctity of our clients homes, by estimators, eliminated Rugworks as a potential rug cleaning contractor, let alone their overpriced estimate. The videos of the violations have been erased, no further action is recommended. read more

I had Rug Works, Sonoma, put down vinyl tile in my kitchen a little over 2 years ago. Then edges started flaking off, so I called them and they came and took pictures of it. They said they would replace it if I would get a desk mat for the area where I sat most of the time on my rollabout chair. They came and replaced the bad tiles, I put down a large desk mat for hard wood floors, but after 3 months the replacement tiles started curling up and flaking off. When I phoned them, they said that they had done all that they could do. So I have a kitchen floor that needs replacing NOW rather than the 2 more years I was planning on and saving for. I certainly will no longer work with Rug Works again and will no longer recommend them!! read more

As Matthew cleans my light colored carpet and sectional today for the umpteenth time over several years, I realize I am overdue in giving Rug Works the excellent review they deserve. Matthew is very knowledgable, courteous, and achieves amazing results on seemingly hopeless stains. He always outlines options and doesn't default to suggesting the most expensive solution. Donna really cares about customer service. She calls you prior to your service to see if you have any special concerns. She calls the day after your carpet is cleaned to see if you are satisfied. They have their own special machine (not a van parked outside your home with hoses snaking up to your door) which is really powerful and does a better job than any other carpet cleaning service I have used. They are reliable and very hardworking. Their process doesn't use chemicals. read more

The people of Rug Works are amazing! Donna is courteous and thorough. She even does triage on the phone if you have an emergency stain! And Matthew is a joy to work with. He is always very realistic when he assesses the probability that a certain stain will come out. With that information, it's up to the customer to decide if it's worth a shot. Most times, Matthew is able to get out way more than he first claims but I totally appreciate that he is so cautious. Today, he removed chocolate, crayon, plum, milk, motor oil, and jean dye from various sofas and rugs. ! And brought my dingy love seat back to bright white! I was shocked both times by the costs of the initial quote but I think it's probably average for SF and Marin. Still I have never regretted spending the money after I see the results and the quality of service I receive. Matthew is an absolute professional. Friendly, knowledgeable, and diligent. The owner, Donna, is clearly passionate about what she does and could not have been more helpful in explaining their services and fees and getting us scheduled quickly. They use safe (non-toxic) cleaning products that really clean well - a deep clean. I was shocked at how clean her team got my upholstered dining room chairs. The owner Donna is a nightmare - we've used this company for several years but are giving up. There is some sort of issue every single time we have hired them and it is simply no longer worth the headache to deal with them - especially Donna and her tendency to chew out her clients. Should Donna's brother Matthew go into business on his own I'd hire him in a minute! He does great work and really cares. But I'll say that the brother/sister dynamic seems to add to their drama and issues as their stories as to who has done what wrong seems to go in a confusing circle of blame. Not worth their very high prices or very high drama and never have I received such rude and insulting messages from a vendor who we've paid tens of thousands of dollars to. read more

The Rug Works offer outstanding value for a very high quality of service. Their hard-working crew carefully vacuum the entire carpet surface, paying special attention to the baseboards, before they steam the carpet with non-toxic cleaner. Pricing is based realistically on the square footage being cleaned. The crew measures the cleaning area and tells you a cost prior to doing the cleaning. I measured our carpets myself and gave Donna those dimensions. Her crew came up with the same figures, so the estimate and the final bill were the same. I believe in supporting local businesses. I had smushed playdoh dried in a rainbow of sorts into the carpet and in a panic, called Rug Works as they have worked on my parent's rugs for years. They were able to squeeze me in fairly soon and did a great job. I love that they are non-toxic and that Donna gives such great customer service. Great company, great service. Everyone told me that red wine stains on a light grey sofa would not clean completely. It was a full glass! Even Donna, the company owner, after looking at the photo of the stain, said it might not disappear completely! Rug Works technician did a fantastic job, no spot left, after 4 days no trace. The Rug Works delivered truly one of the best customer service experiences I've had in many years. Donna and all the people at the Rug Works are just amazing. They gave a very reasonable price on a big job and did not disappoint. Her people were able to lift and remove stains we'd had for many years and brought all our carpets back to near new condition. Furthermore, as noted in some other reviews -- Donna offers to be called day or night to help with rug emergencies. She has spent so much time with me on the phone, coaching me how to get out the stains in our rugs in a pinch. She even encouraged us to get a hand held cleaner in order to save on her people needing to come out again after we had a dog accident. It is very rare to come across a business owner who has so much integrity and cares so much about their work and customers. read more

I agree with Erin C.'s review. I hired Rug Works to spot clean a few rugs after an event. Donna convinced me to significantly increase the size of my order and to clean all of my rugs entirely. Her "expert" was out on medical leave, but she assured me that his replacement would do a great job. When he ruined my 2-year old rug, Donna turned on a dime. She took no responsibility at all and went so far as to blame me for the damage. I had hired Rug Works once before and my brand new living room rippled and eventually had to be replaced. Rug Works blamed it on the rug manufacturer. I cannot believe I fell for this explanation. Now I've paid Rug Works thousands of dollars and I have spent thousands more to replace what were beautiful new rugs. read more

I have been a returning customer of The Rug Works for many years. From the first phone call with Donna, the owner, I knew I was dealing with a very professional and conscientious company. I found her to be friendly and very helpful. I have had both Gil and Mathew in my home and I am amazed at what stains they can get out. They bend over backwards to help but never did I get the feeling they were trying to sell up. It's hard to believe the comment of 1/23/10 - in fact it sounds like a competitor because by experience has consistently been of excellent work, customer service, friendliness, promptness, and sensitivity to the customer. They are VERY careful and courteous in our home, they have done amazing things.....Donna is the best at customer service...she calls to remind you of your apt, gives a window that her crew MAKES, calls for follow-up - and best of all - sends someone back if you are not totally satisfied. This only happened to me with one difficult spot on our carpet...but they did a great job! I also can not believe the negative review...just couldn't happen with this company. We use Rugworks for our office carpet cleaning and they do a great job. Donna is very quick to respond to our phone calls, and she tries very hard to accommodate our scheduling needs. My boss can be difficult at times, and Donna has always retained equanimity in dealing with her, so the client who complained about Donna here must be a real piece of work. read more
