Very nice atmosphere and good service. I ordered an International 105, which essentially tasted like a hard punch- it needed more champagne and gin. My boyfriend had an old fashioned, that was nothing spectacular but good. The spinach artichoke dip was very good and creamy. I got the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. It was presented nicely, but all the breading from the chicken easily crumbled off. The fries were just regular ol' fries. My boyfriend got the filet mignon. It was cooked correctly (medium-rare), but not very tender would be comparable to a good sirloin which speaks to the quality of meat they started with. The sweet potato hash was as expected (good). Overall, the meal wasn't bad, but we had higher expectations for the price we paid. read more

Had a solid dinner here on Easter, our first visit to this new spot. The atmosphere is trendy...it was empty when we were there but would probably be better with a lively scene. It almost felt like it turns into a club later (it doesn't). The service was great, our waitress was really nice and on top of things. The food was good overall. I had a salad with fresh salmon and my husband had the lobster roll. We really liked it all. The only disappointment was the insanely overpriced chocolate coffee creme brûlée. It cost about the same as the lobster roll and wasn't even that good! We will be skipping dessert next time, but would come back for dinner or lunch to try more. read more

The Rutledge was a delightful experience, and if you find yourself in the Franklin area, treat yourself to a cocktail at the bar or a date night with your SO. We started off with a round of drinks - I love a gin cocktail which they feature 2 (most restaurants don't even have one!), and I got "International 105" which came is the prettiest stemmed coupe glass, and consisted of gin, rosemary, agave, strawberry and champagne. My bf has a local beer on draft. We then decided on the lobster rolls for an appy- you can also order these as a meal. They were very delicious! For a salad, we both had The Rutledge which has beets and cucumbers and paired it with their house made Agave Vinaigrette - WOW was that a delicious dressing!!! It was SO good! For dinner we shared the Prime Rib, paired with mashed sweet potato, and asparagus. The meat was perfect and comes with a mild horseradish, and the asparagus was perfect too. The sweet potato dish was good but kind of dessert-y so if you want something more savory opt for a baked potato. We ended our meal with an espresso each and split the creme brûlée, and it all got eaten. Love the modern, American vibes inside... its very chic. My husband and I were in Franklin for the week and we decided to stop in at The Rutledge since it was right down the street from our hotel. We ended up going there a few more times for food and martinis (mostly for the martinis). The first time we went there, we had the most amazing and friendly server, Mallory. She recommended a great gym and even had guest passes left for us (thank you again!). The second time we went, we were at the bar and she came up and said hi to us. She remembered our names and we chatted for a bit. I was super anxious going into this girls night out dinner after reading these reviews! It really took us all by surprise... it was fabulous. Here are as many high points as I can remember: great decor, feels really spacious but for a table of eight we could all hear each other easily, the music was the perfect volume, the food was excellent, the seats were super comfy, the waitress was attentive but not all over us. Truly we all had a great time with a great meal. We started with spinach artichoke dip and shrimp cocktail. Both were great! We all got a variety of burgers, French dips, sushi, and salmon. Everyone loved everything. The only thing I would note was that the fries got a little too salty toward the bottom of the pile. Other than that it really was a wonderful night. So I really want this place to do well. Franklin needs more locally owned, unique places with great decor and good menus. I thought maybe Rutledge would be a new go-to place. Unfortunately - they have some issues to work out. First off, the service was great. No complaints at all. We were seated right away, the hostesses were friendly and competent (a rare combo, anywhere) and the servers were on the ball despite a busy Fri night. Decor and music were both really on point. We ordered the cornbread, a French dip sandwich and the spicy tuna roll. The cornbread was good (if a bit too sweet), but the spicy tuna roll was so disappointing. There was maybe an ounce of tuna, tops. It was way way overpriced at $14. I'll pay that for a real sushi roll with a serving of tuna. This was less tuna than a sad Kroger sushi roll. (See pic). Barely an ounce of tuna in the whole roll. Management - you need to put *actual pieces of tuna* in the roll. And the tuna needs to be the main ingredient. Look at the picture. You can't even see any tuna in the roll. Second issue - they charged us $10 for cornbread when the price was $9 on the menu. Get it together. I'm not going to quibble over a dollar - but you shouldn't charge different prices than you advertise! Also the French dip almost completely lacked any Brie. Come on now Rutledge. If you want to charge $75 for a dinner for two - you can't skimp on the pricier ingredients. We've been to Rutledge so many times. It pains me to write this but something is off lately. Our party of 4 last night had only 1 meal that was up to their prior quality. The salads were lacking in every way and resembled a bag salad from Publix rather than an upscale restaurant. The harvest salad was completely lacking quinoa, sunflower seeds, and kale. The avocado and shrimp salad was limp and the dressing has changed. The side couscous and kale salad was 1/3 cup when it used to surround the tuna entree. Seriously not sure if it's an expense issue, a chef issue, or a management issue. The hot chicken sandwich and fries were good, but these are commodities in Nashville. I wouldn't return to get a good sandwich. I hope they can figure it out as this a great spot with a friendly atmosphere. read more

Our server was good but food was very slow. Steak was not prepared correctly. It happens. It should not take 30 minutes to get it fixed. I know good help is now literally hard to find but if you can't maintain the quality and experience, seat less people. I don't mind the prices. It's just that the experience and food quality do not live up to the prices. When the best thing you have is the French fries, you wonder why your bill is $250. I hate that no-shows forced restaurants to have a policy that requires a credit card to make a reservation but what I really hate is having to put in a credit card number to make a reservation for a boring fair to middling restaurant. It's just okay and that is just not good enough to compete with the quality of other restaurants. We want it to be good because it's close. My coworker and I walked in for lunch on a weekday during the first week of this restaurant being opened. (So take that as a caveat... it was brand new!). The building has had a full renovation since its days as Buffalo Wings & Rings. It's very chic, modern, with tons of grey, with booths that give your group nice privacy. There's also an event space with TV screen that will soon have a door; they said it would be tight for 40 people so probably ideal for like up to 25 I'd guess. No issues getting seated or served quickly. It wasn't crowded due to being newly opened, so we had constant attention from different folks refilling waters and checking in. Our server was swift and cheerful. Everything was fast; we were in and out in under an hour at lunchtime! If they can keep this up once the crowds roll in, they'll do great! I ordered the California Burger. I ordered it medium-well, but it came more medium; that said, I didn't care! The server was apologetic, but I was fine with it. It was really tasty, and a large serving. Total with tax came to almost $19, which isn't cheap, but I'd say that it was a larger portion size than other burgers/fries in the area. I also would say this is more upscale than any gourmet burger joint, so you pay for the ambiance too. My coworker ate the lobster roll appetizer as her meal, and it was huge too. Good value for the amount of food at an upscale place. I'd say comparable to J. Alexander's in terms of price, value, and feel. I'll likely be back, most likely for happy hour and appetizers, or a business meal. We came to the Rutledge at the Franklin location, for our son's birthday. Service: Over all the service was great. They made him feel special and acknowledged his special day. Food: we ordered the banh mi, pressed sushi, rib eye steaks, and lobster bisque. Banh mi: was mediocre at best, the dish should not be called banh mi as this was missing the essence of what a banh mi is. The veggies were not dressed with any type of seasoning, the shrimp was deep fried with no Vietnamese flavors. It's more a po boy than it is a banh mi. The veggies and shrimp were placed on nan, and covered with what tasted like teriyaki sauce from a Japanese take away. Great dish, but should not be called Banh Mi. It was a disappointing banh mi, and would've been an ok po boy at best. Pressed sushi: tasted like it was pre-made, and had been sitting in a refrigerator waiting to get served. The riced did not have adequate seasoning for sushi rice, it was served too cold, so the rice was kind of hard. You will get better quality type sushi at a Japanese take away. Asian components of the dishes tasted as if the chef does not have adequate knowledge of what these dishes should truly be. Rib eye: cooked perfectly. They were great. Lobster bisque: no true lobster flavor. You could taste the alcohol from the white wine that was in the soup. As if the pan wasn't hot enough when the white wine was used to deglaze it. It tasted like cream with white wine, but with the color of lobster bisque. Over all, the service was great, food is below mediocre and not really good value for money. The Rutledge could possibly be the ultimate brunch let down in all of Franklin and Nashville. I'll start this review with stating that there was not a COVID precaution applied (which is fine and by itself And I am completely ok with given that the mandates have been lifted in the state- however this was our absolute first experience with a restaurant not requiring staff to mask up to serve food). The ambience was very pleasant and trendy. Very comfortable seating and chill music played well to the decor and space. That's about the only positive thing I have to say. Once seated, it took a long time for anyone to take a drink order. We started with the avocado deviled eggs with "candied" bacon. Once the plate arrived the eggs were tossed all over the plate and smooshed together. The eggs were over cooked, chewy, bland and missing candied anything. I ordered a glass of wine which took until the start of the meal to arrive. The children ordered waffles and the adults ordered the Thai noodle salad and a sushi roll with a salad. Both salads were dry and needed dressing. The sushi rolls were rolled so poorly that they were inedible without a fork- and even then were difficult to consume. We had ordered another glass of wine that never arrived. The server came to our table 3-4 times and we were largely having to stand up to get someone's attention. All in all this was one of the worst brunch spots we've encountered in our nearly 16 years in Nashville. This location is the complete opposite of their Nashville location which is very disappointing given the high standard we've come to know and love. read more

I typically don't do negative reviews, it's actually taken a couple of months for me to decide to write one for The Rutledge. Let me start out by saying, my wife and I try as many new places as we can within reason due to COVID, so when we see a new place near by it really excites us. My wife saw pictures of The Rutledge and their food so she sent them to me because the items in the photos looked good, and the space has a nice ambiance about it based on the photos. We had called a week previously to check if reservations were needed, they said no, so we went the following week, called again to confirm reservations weren't needed, which they were not. We got there around 7, they asked if we had reservations to which I advised we were informed we wouldn't need one as we confirmed just and hr or so earlier, so they sat us next to the kitchen, which is fine. We're not picky. At first glance the space is nice and modern, but in my opinion they have it way too brightly lit for the kind of vibe they are going for The server came and introduced us and got our drink orders, we were pretty underwhelmed with the drink menu options, my wife went with something fruity per usual and I did an old fashioned. They were okay, but nothing to write home about. Next, the server gets our apps in, we decided to go with the tuna tartare and the steak rolls. The tuna tartare had a nice presentation but for the most part was very bland and average, which was unfortunate because the presentation leads you to expect otherwise. The steak rolls were almost inedible, they were essentially Philly egg rolls with tenderloin, garlic, and gouda but the meat was the consistency of wet pet food, the flavor wasn't great, and they were Luke warm. They seemed frozen to me. For our entrées my wife ordered the filet mignon with lobster mac, and I got the bone in ribeye with brussel sprouts. We ordered our steaks medium, we don't mind them being medium rare or rare, as long as they're not overcooked we don't really care. When the steaks came out I could tell they were over cooked because they looked dry, and the filet was so small. They were both well done basically, my wife said the lobster mac was also fishy. I've never sent food back to the kitchen in my life, but I couldn't bring myself to spend as much as we about to spend on this meal and eat overcooked dry steak. So, I asked the server to come over and she acknowledged how overcooked the steaks were before I could tell her, I let her know that she did a good job, but respectfully asked if we could send the entrées back, and we didn't mind paying for the the drinks or apps but didn't want the entrées. She understood, we tabbed out and left for another establishment. All in all, the service wasn't bad, maybe the kitchen was having a bad night, or were just understaffed as the server advised us after we sent the food back. It's too bad, this space has a lot of potential, I hope they do better for other patrons. read more

We went here for my graduation dinner on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was mostly empty so we got our food rather quickly. When we got our appetizer, we could tell that it had been sitting for a while so we asked for a fresh one. The second one was way better. The service was fine, however for the lack of customers present, you would think it'd be better. The waitresses were all just hanging out together talking in the corner. We got our entrees after about 20 minutes (perfect wait time!). My chicken was over cooked and hard to chew. We ended up getting dessert which was undoubtably the best part of the night! The interior of the restaurant is quite modern and kind of felt like a cold hotel dining area. Not a bad thing, but was different. Such a fun and swanky date! We made reservations by phone because they were booked online. We enjoyed cocktails and the warm Santa Monica roll as an appetizer. It was delicious! Then for dinner- I ordered the avocado deviled eggs and lobster macaroni and cheese. My husband had the French dip and fries. Everything was great except the eggs. They honestly tasted like they were prepped that morning and in the freezer since then. Our server was nice enough to take them off the bill. This place was great! We went on a Friday night during the late phase 2 days of COVID-19. The staff was all geared up, nary a nose in sight. The few I saw were the jerk customers that wear their masks under their noses. They only have to wear it from the door to their table!! We were seated immediately. The place is big enough that even with all the extra spacing required, there were still a decent number of people dining. We were in a tri-sided booth, even tho they could have saved it for - 3 or 4 person reservation. Much appreciated! Nashville casual dress, meaning we saw (slash wore) jeans, but also saw some wannabe Real Housewives of Nashville in sequins and heels. Something for everyone here, no judgement. Cocktails were wonderful! The first was a bit too 'refreshing' for me, so it did not count toward my limit of 2. On his return, the sweet and masked waitperson asked what kind of drinks I favor, made his recommendation, and voilá! the perfect cocktail, right off the menu. So I had my 2. Standard menu item Artichoke Spinach dip was perfect. I don't usually eat that way, but my friend and I are not simpatico with the foods, so I graciously gave in. Then I ate the whole thing because she had the tummy bypass thing years ago and eats 2 nibbles of everything! Don't even ask, I don't get it either. Salmon on some signature salad with choice of protein (not on the menu, but offered by lovely masked server guy who btw was just available enough to not piss me off). Perfect. I thought I would give this establishment a fair chance to earn my loyalty, given the recent reviews. Unfortunately, the RUT didn't make the cut. Honestly, I've given this restaurant a few tries hoping each experience would be better. Unfortunately it never quite does. Service is usually very slow and the last time we went, 4 of our part of 6 ordered prime rib or prime rib Sandwich. After our order was put in, about 30 minutes later our server came to let us know they were out of prime rib. At that same time the other 2 people received their food and we were left scrambling to pick something else off the menu. We understand you run out of items but it shouldn't have taken that long to inform us plus the flow of dinner is now interrupted with 2 people eating and the rest waiting. I wish I had been told when making the reservation that there was a Derby party taking place that evening. The restaurant was packed and so noisy we couldn't hear each other. The hostess put us at a table closest to the packed bar. When I asked to sit somewhere further away from the crowded bar, the hostess said it would be a lot of trouble to change it. She said she would have to go into the computer and switch servers. The food was mediocre at best. We spent $80 on appetizers, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks. The appetizers were nothing special, but the desserts were very good. Also, the service was excellent. However, that is not enough to make me want to come back. This is 6:30 on a Friday evening w/some empty seats at the bar. We decided to look up a menu online & when we flagged one of the bartenders down to try & order we were told "it will be awhile". 5 workers back & forth working & not one could get us a menu. One even talking about how horrible her day was. The kicker is a couple sat right next to us and served menus & drinks immediately. I will NEVER go back there and never had such horrible service. . Not sure what the bartender's problem is but perhaps another job would better suit her. On the plus side we left there and went to Drakes.. had fantastic service and great food. I ordered an entree Shrimp and Tuscan Pasta for $26. The dish I received consisted of a fist sized serving of pasta with capers and pesto and THREE medium sized grilled shrimp!! The appetizer menu offers Shrimp Cocktail with 6 large shrimp at $14. This does not compute!! My take away is that the owner must think his patrons are STUPID! This was the first visit to the Rutledge for everyone in our group. We were also so lucky to get to enjoy this lovely restaurant, for an early lunch, with very few other guests present. ( Christmas Eve lunch wasn't at all busy, but our server shared that they had reservations for that evening for over 200 guests!)Food is beyond fabulous, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff & great service= a total win. Though everyone loved all of their entrees, the lobster roll is perfection, huge chunks of lobster cooked perfectly, on a wonderful toasted roll.
