I was hungry, it was cold, dark, and rainy, and I wanted seafood. The places near the hotel were overpriced and not quite what I had in mind. I saw the Salt Line menu and knew this was exactly what I was looking for! I could see that they have a cute outdoor patio area for when it's not so awful outside. The inside is tastefully done in simply nautical themes and with little pictures and fun items scattered about. I started out with the beets knee's. It was very sweet and very boozy. My second drink was a simple glass of prosecco. I ordered the Kraken. Yes, I know it says it feeds 2-3, but I was hungry! It came with 18 oysters, a dozen clams, pickled oysters, smoked whitefish dip, salmon roe, shrimp, king crab, and lobster. I ended up sharing with Chad when he finally showed up. I also ordered some fries (yum) and we split the banana split (double yum). A good meal and I'll be back to try those delicious looking clam bellies. read more

Went here for a friend's birthday. The service was pretty good. I ordered a drink (the name of which escapes me at the moment, but it was supposed to be like a rum punch - it wasn't). I also had something with congnac and vermouth, which was a stronger drink for sure, but not something I'd recommend drinking with seafood as it was a bit heavy. Food-wise, I had the seafood platter. For $32, it wasn't a bad deal. The portion was healthy enough to fill myself up and have enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Absolutely void of flavor and seasoning. At least some salt could have been applied. The potatoes were undercooked. I'm mean by far the worst meal that I have ever had in DC. Took my family of 6 to Salt Line tonight, and all it was all the hype and more. Had a reservation, seated promptly but noticed that the host staff was doing their best to accommodate all. The crab dip appetizer was amazing, oysters were perfect, the entree star for us was the rockfish entree. And the milkshake with red velvet cake topper was a huge hit with the kids. Extremely solid seafood restaurant in a beautiful location on the water in the ever-growing DC Navy Yard District. To start, they have lots of fun, innovative drinks and if you can't get in to the restaurant to try their awesome seafood, they have a great outdoor patio area where you can hang out and grab a drink for happy hour or before or after a Nationals game. Food wise though, they knock it our of the park too. From a wide variety of oysters to amazing lobster rolls to my personal favorite, the stuffed, grilled lobster with pesto and basil. It is just amazing. The only thing I wish would change about it is that there was more of it. They also have great sides, like the watermelon and grilled cucumber salad that is a great mix of savory and sweet. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Salt Line recently. Hats off to Cheryl, our server who was magnificent. She sensed that we wanted a relaxed pace - we were three old friends who wanted to take our time and catch up over delicious food and drinks. She made sure we were taken care of supremely. The first round was cocktails and oysters. While I enjoy raw oysters, I don't know a ton about them. Cheryl took the time to explain the differences in size, brininess and source and helped us order, greatly appreciated. Next up were appetizers - we had the pimento cheese dip and the whole belly fried clams. Delicious. For my entree I had the fish sandwich and side salad. I was expecting that it would be pretty good, but was really pleasantly surprised by what turned out to be one of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had. I really appreciate that the fish was a nice cut of fish and cooked to perfection, not just a thrown together average sandwich. The salad was perfection - fresh greens tossed in a light vinaigrette, just the way I like it. While we lingered over a delicious dessert we realized we had been sitting there for a long time and asked Cheryl if we should pack it up so she could turn the table. She was incredibly gracious and encouraged us to hang around and eventually she found us three empty seats at the bar so we could continue our evening over there! It felt like true hospitality in an age where lots of restaurants are rushing people out the door and enforcing time limits at tables. I started my vacation here on the recommendation of a friend. It was delightful out on the patio, we met great people from the neighborhood, and it was dog friendly. The manager seemed aloof and a bit brusk, but i didn't think much of it. The lobster rolls were fabulous, the beer was good, and the people we met made the experience. Needless to say, that was not an inexpensive dining experience. Thought it would be great to end the week with the same great experience, called the restaurant to find the hours it was open; no messaging. Looking online at the website; again, no hours available. Tried to make a reservation and it gave a 3:30 as the earliest available time, (and yes, it was the DC location).Took the Uber, walked up to the restaurant and the doors were open, and again, no hours posted on the windows or doors. My friend and I walked in, and sat at the bar, the manager looked up from her laptop long enough to say that they were actually closed and would not be serving until 4. We noted that it wasn't a problem, could we please stay and just charge a phone at the bar. She said something under her breath and went back to her laptop. Then another young thing came up to us and again, explained that the only reason there were people here was a private party and that they were closed. We said that had previously been explained and was it still ok to charge. The side eyes and glares from the manager were over the top! We left. Suddenly the manager wanted to reexplain about the closure. She was rude and demeaning. And since most of her tone was directed at my friend, i have to wonder if it because she is black. When she tried to reiterate to me what she had explained, dripping with disdain. Bottom line, don't eat here! There are plenty of other great seafood restaurants on the waterfront! I have no patience for someone who hires minorities but is nasty when serving them! And if your restaurant is closed, close the damn doors! read more

I love the venue - right on the corner of a mixed use building overlooking the Anacostia river (but don't take a dip no matter how hot, the river just got upgraded from an F rating to a D, but that's still not safe to swim in). That aside, the patio and bar is expansive and offers nice views of the river. The food was good - we got the "Stuffies" to start (stuffed clams) which even if you don't end up liking, are still fun to order. Trust me, try it. They were good if only having a bit too much breading as filler. I had the lobster roll - buttered instead of dressed - with a side of fries. The fries were great and the lobster was mostly great, a few pieces were a bit undercooked and rubbery but it was still the best lobster roll I've had in DC. I was actually pretty shocked to see that it was listed as a Washingtonian Top 100 restaurant, so getting pickup from here during the pandemic seemed like a great way to try out their food. I picked up the order (from an outside area, which was nice) and got to the park to share it with my wife. I ordered the "Adult Happy Meal," which included some cape cod chips, stuffies (aka stuffed clams), a whoopie pie, a 12 oz Narragansett beer, and a sandwich all for twenty bucks! I decided to go with the buttered lobster roll (which was a $10 upcharge) to complete my happy meal. Everything in the fun box of goodies was rather tasty, including the lobster roll that was just about as good as the ones I get from Luke's Lobster. My wife ordered the smash burger (based on the reviews) and it was indeed a delicious burger. Overall, The Salt Line provides a fun social atmosphere for Nats Games along with some tasty food options. Other reviews mention it and every place should work like this! We opted for the Aerosol Spritz and Fruit Punch, crab dip for an app then split the shrimp pasta and fish sandwhich. Bright, attractive oyster bar with a wide selection of seafood - many locally sourced. I ordered the "Nashville Hot" Soft-shelled crab. The crab meat is lovely and tender. The fry on the outside perfectly crispy and not even slightly oily or dense. The only complaint is that the "Nashville Hot" is a misnomer. I would rate it a 0.5 out of 10 on a heat scale. Less than a Dorito chip, but slightly more heat than ketchup. It's more sweet and syrupy than it is hot. It's too bad, because without the description I would've been completely happy with the dish, but when you sell it as something else and build it up, it leaves me slightly disappointed when the description is entirely inaccurate. I tried two of all the oysters the waitress suggested as the best and most popular. There was a good range of salinity. I enjoyed the options of sauces to drizzle over them. My father had the lobster omelet. It was well-prepared. Soft, flaky, and fresh. The omelet was a tad over-cooked, in my opinion, but my father isn't as picky. Overall, not a bad dish either. This time made a reservation so we were seated right away, on the side - away from the bar area so a more roomy area with fewer tables around - good on a cloudy day since there is no cover here. Service was very prompt, and they leave a water bottle on the table which is preferred. We had the Waterman's platter and crispy fish sandwich, both very good, with excellent crispy batter - the oysters were super tasty (considering I don't usually like oysters - now am a convert), the sandwich however could use a bit less sauce as it soaked the bottom bun too much making it hard to pick up. Had a great time visiting the Salt Line over the weekend! Was very easy to be seated outdoors (lots of space available) with heaters nearby (one per table it looked like) and all servers wearing masks. My friend and I split their crab dip as an appetizer (was delicious! Would advise asking for extra chips) and then each ordered the smash burger as our main. The burger was really great, and the fries were also a great side to pick (you can choose between fries or salad). Our server was really kind - thought he did a great job answering our beer and menu questions. I love the Salt Line, it is a great place to come for brunch or dinner before a Nationals game! The space is decorated beautifully and they have an amazing outdoor area complete with comfy couches, tables and a large bar. On each table they put a card where you can order oysters. The card lists out the oysters by salinity level and flavor-- I've never seen this before and it's extremely helpful. The lobster Mac and cheese is amazing, sometimes it has king crab, depending on what they have fresh. The fish plate is super generous and could be a good appetizer for a big table. I also recommend to order the Parker rolls, the apple butter tastes like an apple cider donut. Different variations of oysters were all very very good- and a very good deal- because you are getting an oyster for less than a dollar. We especially liked the grilled oyster with soy-based yuzu sauce. It was so delicious. Now the main lobster dish- it was good, but kind of small. I understand lobsters are generally expensive, but on their menu, they said it was good for two. After finishing the dish, we thought maybe it was good for 1 person. Our bill at the end of the night came out to be ~$120 with tax and tip, but we did not walk out full, but I guess satisfied.
