I've been to the salt line a few times and can say I've never had a bad experience. A few things I love: - Service is always top notch. Regardless of the size of my party (whether it's just me, me and a friend or a party of 10) - Oysters are so delicious! I always opt for the briniest of oysters, but I've never been disappointed. They're pricey-ish but so good! - outdoor seating area is always a vibe. I enjoy being outside so LOVE that they offer a variety of different seating options (sofas, high tops, bars) etc - they allow pets on the patio! My pup and I had a wonderful Saturday brunch here where the staff welcomed him, allowed me to order a pup friendly kids meal for him (hamburger no bun with apples on the side) and made sure his water bowl was topped off - the brunch menu was also tasty (drawing a blank on everything I've tried but can say confidently that everything was delicious. While the weather is still nice, I'll for sure be back to hang out, get a glass of Prosecco and enjoy some oysters while the weather still lets me do it! read more

It's been my second time back and still no improvement at all. First off while no one was even in establishment we were told to wait even with reservations and we were about twenty minutes early. It was annoying because we clearly saw were we would be seated but sat at bar anywhere. Drinks were great tasty quick to get and oysters were fine but could have been chilled more and took a little long. When we finally got seated waited like ten minutes for more water and to be served when clearly the restaurant was empty. The servers while nice when they did speak to us service was slow and we had multiple wait staff so we weren't sure who was and wasn't on the floor. Now the food was below average to me. My friends fried shrimp roll wasn't even deveined and the fries were scarce compared to my plate of fries. I also got fried clams and they tasted great but portion was so small for the price. And I didn't love the coddies tasted like it had been in old oil or just dry stale in my eyes. AMBIENCE: The Salt Line in Washington DC presented a calm relaxing dining experience. An outside patio in which guests can dine by fire side and order custom made cocktails at their outside bar. The restaurant gives a strong sense of pride in their decor for the fishing culture surrounding the city with decorations. The option to sit inside or outside is always a big plus in my book especially with such a beautiful few of the night lights and water just in front of you. STAFF: The staff were very friendly and informal. The host assured us that the restaurant was very considerate to those who just want to dine without reservation. Considering the restaurant is located next to the stadium of the Washington Nationals Baseball team this must be a highlight for those looking for some food after the game. FOOD: For dinner I ordered the Black Rum Lemonade, Baked Pimento Crab Dip, and Crab Cavatelli. The Black Rum Lemonade was refreshing however the cocktail had a stinging sensation of bourbon, a little too much in the mixture. The Baked Pimento Crab Dip was absolutely delightful! The chips that came with it were so light and airy that paired lovely with the smooth and salty dip. And finally for my entrée I had the Crab Cavatelli. It had this savory twist of salty yet satisfying as the herbs and spices blended with the confines of the textured crab meat. It was absolutely delicious. Additionally, portion sizes I felt were very filling even for a more higher end place to eat. RECOMMENDATIONS: Upon entering the restaurant there was an awkwardness as we waited at the front host desk to be seated and nobody was there to greet us. It wasn't a busy night however being greeted right at the front door shows a good sign of hospitality as well as warmth for the dining experience of the establishment. It took us about 15 minutes until anyone came to stop and say hello and check us in for our reservation. For a restaurant with so many positives a friendly face at the door would make it that much better! CONCLUDING REMARKS: Overall, I fairly enjoyed the restaurant! I recommend it for any lover of Seafood Cuisine or simply looking for a nearby place to socialize and grab a drink at night. Great location, with nice views and good outdoor seating and attentive service, but unfortunately the food is just okay. My friends and I went here on 6/8/2024, we did not know the Nats were playing, so parking was insane (not the restaurants fault, nor a factor in my review)! We had a friendly and attentive server that greeted us right away, we ordered drinks, took pics (because you have to) and then we got the baked pimento crab dip to share as a starter. The dip was pretty good and I especially liked the Old Bay crap chips. I got the King Crab benedict with fries instead of mixed greens for my meal and unfortunately, I do not recommend this dish. I am not sure what was wrong with it, but I think it boils down to something being off/wrong with the hollandaise. The benedict was just not good. The fries were fine. Came here for dinner on a Friday night. We really wanted to eat at a place with a patio and Salt Line fit the bill. The patio is first come first serve, but it was very easy finding a table. The view is awesome. I tried the orange crush (I love frozen cocktails) and added a peach brandy float. It was alright. Not very strong, but it comes in a cute cup. We ordered the Nashville hot soft shell crab to share and it was pretty bland. Not spicy at all and not even seasoned, tbh. I could've done without it. I ordered the Crispy Fish Sandwich and the fish was similar to the soft shell crab in that it wasn't really seasoned, but I really liked the mix of lettuce, tartar sauce and chile. The flavor of that mix is super yummy. I ordered a side salad instead of the fries. The service was great; our waitresses were attentive even though the place was pretty busy. Good menu in a nice setting, weird charge policy and middeling service. Dropped in for Friday night cocktails and apps and hung around for dinner. The good: the menu is really very good. A good mix of seafood options with raw bar, crudo, crab, and fish which was all very fresh. The drink menu is also solid with a selection of beers wine and cocktails that is diverse without being overwhelming. The setting is also very nice adjacent to the sailing club you might get some good waterfront action watching sailing classes in the river. The mediocre: service was pretty middling food was quick but servers were hard to locate and not attentive. We were there on a Friday during events at both the soccer and baseball stadium. This could be an excuse for staff being a little overwhelmed but in a location like this right between the stadiums this is probably a fairly regular occurrence. The bad: at the bottom of their otherwise excellent menu is a paragraph about how doing business in DC is expensive and as a result there will be an added 4% which is not gratuity added to everything on the bill. This is bizarre, if prices have to be 4% higher make them 4% more. I understand this is only at the Navy Yard location but Don't closeout your menu with a paragraph complaining about your location before adding a gotcha charge. On most items this is less than $1. A menu is the thing you hand your guests on arrival don't have a paragraph in it complaining about your costs. read more

I found this location on Yelp while considering higher rated restaurants within walking distance to the Nationals ballpark that had a diverse menu. I created a reservation days in advance without issue upon our arrival. They offer interior and exterior seating, and I chose interior given the summer heat and potential for rain. Probably a good choice after arriving and talking to my wife about preferences, not that the interior was overwhelmingly cool. I noted it was our anniversary on the reservation which the host recognized as "oh, it your anniversary" and that was it for the evening. So don't expect any recognition for birthdays, anniversaries, or other special events. Not that I was, but I coordinated this getaway weekend for my wife and I, so I could have scored brownie points with a Happy Anniversary! at least. The host seating us recognized it was happy hour but didn't provide the happy hour menu. We had to ask the server for the happy hour menu to which she replied, "let me check if it's happy hour." My wife ended up telling her the time on the spot. So a lack of attention to detail and situational awareness by the host and server. We eventually ordered drinks and entrees, and I wondered if they were both going to arrive at the same time. It took a good 15 mins for drinks to arrive. There we are sitting in this restaurant waiting....waiting...waiting. I had ordered a draft beer ($6 happy hour) and my wife ordered Prosecco ($10). Only $2-3 off for happy hour. It's not like we ordered a cocktail with multiple ingredients and measurements. After dinner arrived, I ordered another beer, same one, which I timed, and it took 20 mins to arrive. We were done with dinner and ready to go before it arrived. I told the server I didn't want it any more since it took 20 mins to arrive and we're ready to go now. I was in disbelief since I thought the server forgot about the beer and yet it was just ridiculously slow service. I don't think it was the server but a drink rep whose sole job appears to be to bring drinks. I ordered the pork chop ($37) that was pretty good overall with green beans mixed with grits. They didn't provide a steak knife which would have been better for cutting the pork chop vice a butter knife but I made it work. My wife had the Mahi Mahi ($31) which she indicated was overcooked as it should fall apart with a fork and instead had to be cut with a knife. We spent four years in Hawaii so she knows a good Mahi Mahi. No bread or complimentary anything while you wait for your food. I don't know if ordering an appetizer would help or delay things even more looking back. I decided to go to the bathroom as we were walking towards the door and my wife waited for me outside. Just as she was texting me to avoid the dog piss on the ground just outside the door that trailed off for 20 feet, I walked out the door and right through it. We sat outside and there was plenty of seating with views of the TVs so that we could watch the game. However, I was disappointed by the limited selection of fried fish, as only catfish was available, which I'm not a fan of. I've not been so disrespected in any establishment. We came to the bar about 11am and it took forever for service when we were at the bar. When the waitress finally arrived, she condensedly said if we don't order brunch we will be SOL but we told her we were here for oysters but she didnt acknowledge it and walked away. We come back again around 4pm and when we tried to order oyster shooters with mezcal she flat out told my husband that he didn't order anything and instead he chose gin, but then got the manager to come kick us out. I've been to The Salt Line plenty of times and always enjoyed my experience (good food and ambience). Unfortunately, tonight's visit didn't live up to my prior experiences. The staff and ambience were nice but my meal was surprisingly bad. I had a lobster roll and calamari. The calamari was just ok but a little salty. Not the type of quality I'd expect from a seafood place on the water but not horrible. The lobster roll on the other hand was really bad. The lobster itself was tasteless and rubber. I guess the lack of taste was the reason for the movie-theater popcorn butter drenching they gave the roll. Speaking of the actual roll, the light, hotdog bun style of it was no match for the butter as the breading quickly became soaked and heavy with oil. This additional weight made it fall apart as it was lifted from its now greasy carrier. The truly disappointing aspect was the market price for this borderline inedible roll and smattering of fries was $42. I can't believe I paid $42 for the worst lobster roll I've ever eaten at a place I normally enjoy. read more

Salt Line has neutral colors- beiges, off-whites, etc, natural elements, lots of light, linen- in a breezy, Hampton-y, beach vibe that channels a Coastal Grandmother feel I'm loving these days. And despite it being half hour now to closing, our server Sh(Ch)eryl took our Lobster Bisque, cocktails, dozen oysters and main plate orders with ease and didn't rush us for anything. Mind you, employees were already sweeping and mopping floors, sorting before their night was over. Thank you. Our Lobster Bisque was PLENTIFUL with lobster. A little loose- but that sucker was packed. Cocktails had nice ingredients- but not strength. My Mahi M. was meaty and the accompanying ingredients were superb. Hubs enjoyed his Portuguese Stew (sans Chouriço to share with me) in a tomato base broth that was overloaded with seafood. The oysters we wrote down on the provided list you ask? We didn't get them. Again, by now it was near closing and our server forgot to hand the list to Shucker Guy. She was extremely apologetic. I got you sis- apology accepted- it was almost closing time. EVERYTHING was delicious including the Banana+ Walnut+Caramel Bread Pudding. Sister girl hooked me up with a small container of real caramel sauce and it traveled well to our hotel room. Came here for happy hour to celebrate a friend's new job. The happy hour deals are decent but when the weather is nice the patio fills up quickly. The views are top notch. The service was fine, I tried to close out after ordering some food but the server wouldn't let me until after my food arrived, so I ended up having to wait to close out a second time which was a little annoying but all in all not that big of a deal. As far as food, we got an order of fries (10/10) and Brussels sprouts which were good but swimming in maple syrup so were a bit on the sweeter side for me. The ambience sitting on the patio was amazing looking out at the river. Our server was fantastic. We had calamari as an appetizer. It was crispy and tasty. Then we shared a cup of clam chowder with Parker house rolls. I do not recommend either of these. The rolls were only OK and the chowder was terrible. For entree we had the Caesar salad with shrimp and the Bronzino. Both were very very good. The salad is huge. read more

Amaaaazing dinner to celebrate my birthday! The quality of seafood shines in every dish. The ceviche de navajas was soooo flavorful and delish. Wavelength oysters were The winner was the Waterman's Platter!!! Crispy yet light and unreal good. First time having a fried oyster and it rocked. The ambiance of the place gives coastal summer comfy with lively young people enjoying drinks. So fun so lively.
