Delicious pizza and great service at The Salty Caper. The fried dough (sweet or savory) was great!

The name of this restaurant....lives up to the haughty arrogant salty pizza chef. When I've gone to restaurants in the past, they have been so happy for our patronship. At this time in my personal life...I am taking care of my mom with dementia. My days are challenging with her. My mothers favorite meal is pizza. I don't know how much longer I have with her. Last time we went to the "Salty Caper" We arrived a bit early at 4:40pm and even though they could see that my mother could not walk well they didn't care. They sent us away and told us to come back at 5pm instead of just letting us sit there for twenty mins. When we arrived, they had three spots right up front for "pick-ups" but no where for handicapped people to come in(except across the streets if you can't walk well....they definitely give priority to pick up orders over handicapped people.) There happened to be a spot that time in front of the next building. When we went in, we had to stand at the counter and order...I asked about the beers(because sometimes I need to take the edge off of my day,dealing with a mom with dementia.) I prefer a wheat beer and John gave me a sample. I liked it so I ordered one and sat down with mom who can't stand for very long. I did comment to John about the parking &asked if could they get a Handicapped spot up front?I ordered a fried calzone and a small four cheese pizza. both were very good. Since Covid is going on, we were given flimsy plastic forks that could not cut the calzone. I commented on it thinking they would appreciate the tip to make them better as a business ,by letting them know we could not cut the fried dough with our forks.It was very hard on my mom to eat the food. we asked them to cut the calzone with a pizza cutter. they did. but we could only eat the pieces with our hands. Calzone was good.I had commented on the pizza chef's tshirt since he is center stager all to see. I can't remember now what it said but the way I interpreted it, it reminded me of a memory...I tried to communicate with the chef and he just truly seemed salty and callous. He proceeded to make stink eye through our entire meal...and why? because I commented on the parking and the forks? A month later we return because the calzones are good and so is the beer.There was no where near the restaurant for my mom to get out without walking across the street to upper parking lot. She is 80....some might be callous& say 'don't bring her' but if I leave her at home alone I have no life, nor does she. So,here we are again, just trying to eat a meal and have a beer and chill. I sat mom down at the table and I went with my mask up to order. (which was five feet away.They could have just come over, were not busy at the time,asked us what we wanted,but they did not.)So I go to counter,5ft away, ordered a 4cheese pizza without mozzarella substitute ricotta,add basil and it was suppose to have gorgonzola/romano on it.) I asked about beer and wanted to try a sample of a new IPA,something new....but they would not give me a sample(like they did the last time we were there.) When I asked Why, he said" I was just being nice before".....I thought to myself....( so today you're NOT NICE?) ...and he refused to give me a sample, blaming it on covid 19, even though two other restaurants on that block had given samples over the last few months during covid. Even THEY had given me a sample a month prior....now,when the restrictions have lifted, would NOT give me a tiny little sample,ridiculous. So being a sport,I stuck with the beer that I had the last time since the manager remembered which one I had(brownie points). I ordered a fried calzone again and a large pizza with one side being the four cheese pizza no mozzarella extra ricotta(and suppose to have Romano and gorgonzola.) Now......gorgonzola is a very unique strong flavor not to be mistaken visually or tastewise.We got our pizza,it DID NOT have Romano or gorgonzola.Just having ricotta and sausage was not enough,it was dry and flavorless. I told John that they forgot the gorgonzola and Romano.The Salty arrogant chef,I saw him yell,"Just tell them to get the hell out!"I like to ignore the behavior of salty jerks like this and focus on the fact that we had just paid $50.00 for two beers a small calzone with just ricotta and basil and a Large Pizza that was made poorly without love. What type of chef would treat his own customer like this.Can I ask you... 1. What is wrong with wanting my mom to be able to easily get into the restaurant? 2.Why would you give us a beer sample one time but refuse us the next and blame it on a virus when we know alcohol kills germs?Two other restaurants on the same block offer samples of beer, BTW. 3. If your chef messes up an order, that was not made right, instead of being glad that we are there supporting you..ask us to leave?wow POOR customer service....DOES NOT CARE about Customers...overpriced for a pizza with no love. read more

Absolutely awesome pizza! Try if you can to go outside. It's really loud inside. Been before and will go back!

This was not our first visit here but this experience was not that great. I am not giving it 3 stars because we have had better experiences before. This experience our pizza was soggy and wet on the bottom. The crust had not crisp and was saggy. We had the lovely and made the veggies mad liquid but it was not a good representation of what I have had before. read more

They are back open! Can't wait to see the inside, but for now thanks to COVID-19 we will be glad to support them with carry out. We called in our order, described our vehicle and drove to town to pick up. They have spots out front designated as take out. They come over and verify your name. The only that would have made it better would have been if you could order at your table instead of ordering at the front desk. At least they brought the food to you when it was ready. I've been looking forward to trying the salty caper and my experience was even better than I had imagined. We got there right when they open and were able to get a table and did not have to wait long for our food. We tried the fried dough for an appetizer which was surprisingly light and very tasty. We shared a small Hawaiian and a house pizza. The house pizza had pesto, ricotta, tomatoes, and pine nuts on it. Both were excellent. The pizza's here are very light and have a great ratio of toppings to crust. We also like how they were not greasy. Both pizzas were really really good. This is actually a great place to come with kids because we are in and out with our toddler in about 30 minutes. I can't wait to come back and try more of their pizzas. read more

My man friend and I were in Salisbury for a quick overnight get away. We wanted to try something new and the reviews of this place made the choice easy. We loved everything about this place! The small town feel, the pleasant greeting , and the nice couple at the table next to us making suggestions were all perfect complements to some of the most AMAZING pizza we have ever tasted! I had the Lovely. It has Gouda on it so I knew it was going to be good! It did not disappoint! He created his own and was also pleased! We tried Ace Pineapple Cider, a suggestion of the couple bedside us. It was very good! We thought our experience could not get any better. Then we tried the Fritti for dessert...OMG! It's a Snicker Bar wrapped in dough & fried! Yes-fried! It's then dusted with powdered sugar & drizzled with chocolate. It was decadent & delicious! Awful experience. There's little seating so we were handed menus and told to go out back to the barely lit patio in back. No waitresses to bring out the drinks we ordered so we had to do it ourselves. The outside fireplace didn't work, so we sat in the cold and eventually were able to make our way back inside. The prices are exorbitant especially considering the extremely poor service. The four cheese pizza was simply disgusting. Never going back. read more

I almost wish I could give two reviews for The Salty Caper. One for food and one for service. I will just average them out, hence why it is receiving 3 stars. Myself and a friend were in downtown Salisbury after an event and needed to grab a quick bite for dinner as it was starting to get late. We found The Salty Caper on Yelp and since it had good reviews and looked like a cool place so we decided to give it a shot! The restaurant is located in a nice area of downtown that has certainly been renovated and multiple restaurants have moved into the 1-2 block radius. The city has also done a great job of providing ample free parking in this area. We headed in and found the restaurant to be smaller than we expected (not a bad thing) but it had a really neat vibe and certainly was more upscale and trendy than your typical small pizza joint. At first we were a little confused as to whether we should just grab a table, or if we needed to wait to be seated, etc. A couple at the bar moved down a seat so there would be room for the two of us so we gladly just joined in there which was perfect. I later figured out from watching others that it seems you walk up to the bar to order your drinks or food and then the tables are all first come first serve. It seemed to be a great system, but an "Order Here" sign or a little proactivity from the servers behind the bar might have made that a little more clear. Upon sitting down one for he servers/bartender who it seems was the owner promptly told us that they had an issue with their oven and that it would take 35-40 minutes until they could serve us anything, we were not starving so this was no problem and we went ahead and grabbed a drink. On the positive side, The Salty Caper does have a pretty good beer selection! Definitely the best I have seen in Salisbury. We looked at the menu pretty quickly and decided that we would just share a calzone and get a couple of salads. We were informed that they were out of salads, but if we chose to have the calzone fried they would be able to get it cooked right away since they did not need to oven for that. We went with the fried calzone and I must say it was extremely good. EASILY enough for two hungry people and very tasty. Their marinara sauce was also pretty good. While we were eating, we got to hear all about the mutual friends of the owner and workers. As a bartender you should be conversing with your customers, in my opinion that is part of the job. Additionally with the sort of beers they have on tap I would assume they are fairly well versed in craft beers, talking with the customers about the beers on tap, their favorite beers, etc could generate some more sales from them trying additional beers. After our neighbors at the bar left and they noticed the tip that was left they proceeded to shout to the workers and to the entire restaurant about how little it was and mock them/make fun of them. I understand being upset by a small tip, but that is something to complain about at the end of the night once the customers have left. Overall, the food was good, the service/attitude could use some work. With a little "Customer Service 101" training I think this could be one of the better restaurants in Salisbury. Unfortunately, I think I will be getting take out the next time I stop in. (and better leave a decent tip so I don't get mocked by the entire bar) read more

This place was a gem of a find. I traveled with my dog and they had a very accommodating dog-friendly patio which set the tone. Then came the incredible pizza and multiple draft beer options and I asked myself what took me so long to find this place! GPS took me about a block away to a parking lot so maybe they need a bigger sign out front to clarify the location but it's worth the extra effort. Staff was extremely accommodating to get me seated on the back brick patio with my dog. Great setting for a relaxing dinner and cold brew. Will definitely return. read more

Ok, so the seating is not the best but the pizza is worth the wait!! Hubby & I love to go there. He enjoys the selection of brewery as well. We have never been disappointed in the food. This is an ideal place to get a nice wood fire pizza. The pizza allows for all kinds of customizations. They also have dessert that consists of deep frying a candy bar of your choice. I thought that was an innovative idea that you can't get from many establishments nearby. However, it does have a small staff and the pizza took quite a bit of time. read more

Been a customer for years. We ordered two separate orders and my friend paid for there order. When I went to pay after an additional pizza and couple beers I was told there was still a balance owed. When I got my last beer I ordered an additional pizza. And paid for more than my portion the register person told me there was a balance that was not paid and I provided the reviept for proof I was told there was a balance. I closed my ticket and then realized they got paid for a cheese calzone and pepperoni and onion pizza that I did not get. Worst part is management did not seem to care or try to resolve. This was. We don't eat out much, but the pizza has been our top 3 for years. Went there last night (6/16/22). It seems that they have changed their crust to a more commercial quality . Best pizza joint in Salisbury if you're looking for something other than a chain restaurant.

This is among my favorite spots in Salisbury. It is a frequent hangout spot for myself and other local actors when we get off stage. The Scbei is great. The pesto and marinara sauces are perfect with the Scbei. I usually order a Hawaiian Pizza (yes, pineapple goes on pizza ) and it is always smoked to perfection. The wood-fired pizza is unique in Salisbury, and reminds me of New York. I'm not a craft beer person, so I usually don't drink beer from here. The beer selection is large, however, and most people will find something to drink here. If I drink beer from here it is usually Stella Artois. They do have a great Cabernet here and I usually sip on that, or get a Cheerwine, so I'm not completely out of drink options. read more

Again just awful service. There's no system to getting a table. No servers or to table service per se. This restaurant is seemly staffed with Gen Xers too inept to graduate to pizza 2.0. Good food but, my God, these people are relegated to fried dough for a reason. We ordered breadsticks that were simply forgotten about for 45 minutes. When asked about said breadsticks the portly cashier simply replied "My bad." After this we order pizzas to go (hoping this might expedite the process), instead I had to ask about pizzas after another 45 minutes and was told they "be out in a second." Another 25 minutes pass and I ask about our order to be old that "there was a problem with the oven" and they were "making our pizzas right now." After asking to cancel my order (as we'd been waiting almost an hour and half for two pizzas) one of the scraggly staff member said "fine, then you won't get pizzas" and the cashier ever-so-unenthusiastic decided to give us our $3.00 breadsticks for free! I nearly shat in my own hat after the staff had been so nice and this token apology was just the topping on the non existent pizza that I did not get to eat. The only way you should eat here is if you happen to have a Mr. Fusion built into your Delorean and have enough banana peels to get up to 88mph and travel back in time to the year you'd actually like to eat their food and order it then. read more
