Right next door is the DMV, and I had to get my tabs renewed. How convenient, a curious-looking lunch spot right next door... several well-dressed professionals walking in and out getting lunch to go... Stopped in and I'm so glad I did!! As others said, a very nice salad bar (more than one lettuce/spinach option) with toppings galore and best of all: a few delicious looking pasta salads. Now look, I love me some cold pasta salad. Maybe it's because my mom has made a mean pasta salad in her day, but in the summer I even crave it sometimes. I included a picture of the green salad on the bottom (chicken, almonds, raisins, Italian dressing). However: wish they would've had cranberries, and more choices for cheese! On the top are the pasta salads: pesto and Italian. The Italian was waaay too buttery and I couldn't finish it, but the pesto was perfect; not too much sauce. Thing to keep in mind, this business is very tailored to the customer base that surrounds it. This is an industrial part of Tacoma/fife so a lot of the customer base is construction, warehouse, freight etc. and quite frankly, we don't care too much about how dim or bright the deli is. Much more focused on getting good, hot food quickly and for a decent price. This is the only restaurant in the area where you can walk in and walk out within minutes. They keep the pace moving which I love! It may come off as cold or rude to people who are used to a more sit-down restaurant style but the owner is very friendly and will remember you and your order once you become a regular. They have "the soup of the day" which my favorites are chicken corn chowder and chicken noodle. The days they aren't serving my fave soup, I will get the chicken Bulgogi bowl and it is soooo good!! I tend to stay away from spicy foods but the bulgogi bowl is worth the numbing of my lips. It is rice topped with the chicken bulgogi, grilled onions, slaw, greens and a drizzle of sauce. The flavor is amazing and it is always fresh and hot. They also have a self serve salad bar. It's 6.99/lb which adds up quickly. read more

We had not been here for some time so we decided to give them another try. Some local reviews seem to give a good rating to a restaurant because it is "cheap" - apparently one of their primary criteria. Well this place will be Nirvana. Even the bathroom has dim lighting. All the ingredients appear to be of very low quality (meat, vegetables, etc.) The service is marginal - when I ordered my Roast Beef sandwich - I asked if the meat is rare - to be informed no - all the meat is cooked - apparently lack of knowledge of meat ratings. (I will say the meat was actually medium rare). While service was efficient - it is robotic - feeling they could care less if you came in or come back. My wife had the BBQ sandwich - and she tried a few bites and quit. The BBQ sauce is not enjoyable and the meat is extremely rubbery. [Same complaint she had last time - a few years ago] I did have my Roast Beef sandwich - with all the trimmings and it was not great but I did finish it. Bread was bland, roast beef marginally OK, tomatoes bland. It did look good as the photo shows but the quality of the product needs significant improvement. read more

Was sad to hear Sunny sold the Deli to new owners. But very happy to see the menu remained the same. Ordered a classic cheeseburger and fries and it was just as good as before. I'm glad they could carry on the Deli USA name. They did a good job updating some of the deli while keeping some of the former decor. And although it wasn't Sunnys friendly face behind the counter the new staff was just as friendly and I look forward to see how they grow this classic lunch spot. read more

I'd go 3.5 if I were able to. Food is served hot, and they have a decent selection of burgers and sandwiches. Most of the people that I've seen however are here for the salad bar. You can load yourself up, and pay $5.99/lb no matter what you put in there. I had the Philly Cheesesteak and my colleague had the double bacon burger, and both were under $6 respectively. They have a small number of tables and chairs, though it doesn't really matter since most of the diners are getting orders to go. The salad bar was ok (probably great for Pierce County??) the.Pasta salads were exactly what I expected them to be - the potato and macaroni were the crappy prepacked ones. I got 1/2 lb of salad and then ordered 2 sandwiches - a Reuben (not bad, lots of meat) and a Judge Hickman Delight Panini, turkey cranberry bacon pesto, just ok... The total was17.39. I had to wait approx 25 minutes for my 2 sandwiches - now I know why most everyone just got the salad bar. Wasn't a good experience, the cashier was on the rude side since I obviously wasn't a regular and didn't know I was suppose to fill out a sandwich request card............. Sunny, the owner is so nice and very fast! She greets me by name every time I go in, I feel the Norm on Cheers (the tv show for all those spring chickens out there LOL). I like their panini sandwiches and fries. I get the salad bar every once in a while. Everything always looks fresh and clean. The workers looked so sad and the lighting in there is so bad and the place just gives off the vibes of a sad old cafeteria. I got the California club. Nasty. The mayo tasted like cream cheese and the tomato was brown and the bread had this weird cold, mushy consistency. Boyfriend got the BBQ sandwich. It was better than mine but it was... Deli USA is one of the few outposts in (the culinary wasteland of) Fife for healthy lunch options. There is a phenomenal salad bar with just about everything you could want to pile on a salad from fresh fruit, grilled chicken, eggs, all the veggies, olives, sauces, garlic bread, pasta salad, etc. The list goes on. It gets expensive fast, however, so I would suggest using caution when building. They also make tasty sandwiches and soups (two featured each day). Their tuna on homemade bread is one of my favorite combinations (easy on the toasting). The turkey and pesto panini is also a great option. If you're going at lunchtime, I would recommend calling ahead and placing your order (especially if it's a large order), as they can get pretty busy. I haven't tried any of their fried/hot options - breakfast, burgers, fries, etc. - so I can't speak to those. The dining space is always clean and tidy, and their seating area is quite inviting. Sunny, the owner/operator, is extremely kind and does a great job remember her regulars' names and orders. Overall, a great little lunch place - and the perfect alternative to all of the fast food joints in Fife. read more

I really really like this place. The workers are so nice and they genuinely care about what you're ordering. This is my third time here and so far they've memorized my face. I like walking in here and naturally this is the only place I've been to on lunch if I don't brown lunch from home. Their fries are phenomenal and the burgers just sort of melt in your mouth. I'm going to start ordering everything on the menu down the line. But we'll see. If I keep this up I won't make it. lol. I've been going to this place for years, as it is located close to my work. Sunny is awesome. This woman must have a gift because once she learns your name, she will never forget it. She will also memorize your usual order and how you like it. Once she sees me walking up from outside she immediately starts making my favorite. I stopped by here today after reading all of the great reviews. The first impression was very nice. Nice salad bar, and the sandwich looked good. After paying and waiting for my order, I noticed that the woman preparing the food was visibly sick. I heard the owner tell her to stay until after lunch and then go to the doctor. This woman was visibly sick sneezing and looking as though she was ill. The last thing I wanted to do after seeing that was eating the sandwich. She should not be handling food in that condition.
