Funky little family owned lake vibe restaurant with big city cuisine! We ordered chilled melon soup, chopped clam appetizer, watermelon salad, & the steak & salmon entrees. DELISH!!! The space and vibe may not be sophisticated but the chef's skills definitely ARE. Although everything was really good our favorites were the melon soup & clams. The chimichurri & eggplant miso sauces served with the steak and salmon were spot on. The salmon had crunchy skin and melt in your mouth meat.... The portions were small to medium and the prices were medium to high like most restaurants in this difficult economy.....completely understandable & worth it. We will definitely be back and if you're a foodie who appreciates interesting menu options, FRESH, FRESH, FRESH quality ingredients & a 5 star chef we highly recommend this sweet little place for dinner. read more

This is not the kind of restaurant you expect to find in the Almanor basin but over the last year the food game has been upped there and the Sandpiper is the kind of place that is leading the way. It is not fancy, just the opposite. The dining room is small and the tiny kitchen is off to the side. Like you can literally hear and see everything going on there but that is OK. I don't know how the chef puts out the excellent food he does from such a tiny kitchen. The menu is small and rotates but the food is something you would expect to find in a much more upscale locale. As i said the menu changes so it is worth checking out a couple of times. This appears to be a mom and pop shop with the husband cooking and the wife serving but they both did an excellent job. I had the chicken shwarma wrap and the wife had the pulled pork sandwich. Both excellent. read more

We went for lunch the Fri July 5th for our first time and left full and happy. I'm Celiac and can't have gluten. I had a turkey, brie, pear panini w/balsamic on GF sourdough that they grilled instead of pressed to make sure there was no gluten from previous panini's left in the press. It came with potato wedges, made fresh which I passed on to my husband as I can't eat potatoes. I also had the corn salad which was absolutely delicious and a meal in itself. I took half the sandwich home. My husband had a huge juicy burger that also came with potato wedges that he raved about. He was very happy with his meal as well. Wildly exotic. Definitely a culinary experience. Brother and sister ownership with application for alcohol on it's way. We got lucky with the daily special oysters rockefeller. My mother-in-laws birthday celebrated there for lunch. Panini sandwiches were fantastic as was the Chicken Quesadilla and watermelon salad. We topped it off with desert, apple crust pie and cheese cake. It was a delightful experience, learning of the family history and business goals of the restaurant. I tried the roasted chicken, it was good but not great as I have had better in the Bay Area...but over all nice place (cute) small and the sister she is shy for a New Yorker but friendly and sweet. And her brother the chef him too kind of shy but a great chef...any who I am from NYC and next time I need to ask them what part of NY ? We stopped in for dinner and had great service, amazing food and the staff were very personable. My wife and I shared the tuna crude appetizer which was their special of the day and it was delicious. We also enjoyed the watermelon salad and flank steak dinner. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chimichurri that was on top was very flavorful. We finished up the meal with a slice of cheesecake and the apple crumble both of which were to die for. I think the price point is perfect as it's hard to find good food and atmosphere in our little rural communities. I will definitely be back for more! read more

We really like this new restaurant. We have been here for lunch and for dinner. The owner and her brother are delightful; very pleasant. The menu is quite unique; there is no place like this up at lake Almanor. Most places offer just hamburgers, hamburgers, hamburgers, ribs and or pizza. Zero imagination! The tastes on the food here are wonderful. Last night I ordered the roasted brussel sprouts as my starter and they had chili sauce on them; yum! My husband had a watermelon salad that was cool and delicious he says. We shared a half a chicken for dinner. It came with small roasted vegetables. The chicken was a little dry; I had the leg and a thigh so mine was more moist. We will definitely be back. read more

This place is great! Everything is fresh and the menu is well thought out! We started with watermelon salad, it was excellent. A perfect mix of sweet and spicy! We split it as an appetizer, as I had read reviews. My husband cannot stop talking about the meatball sandwich. The meatballs were delicious, and cut in half so they didn't fall off the bread that was perfectly toasted with the right amount of cheese and sauce. (Not so much as to drown the other flavors). In fact, he said it was the best he has ever eaten. It was the special today, so not on the main menu. I ordered the Ruben panini and it did not disappoint. The twist of turkey, pastrami and gruyere was amazing. The sandwiches are also served with a fresh garden salad and mine came with chips. The service was excellent and we did not wait long given everts made fresh. Yes, it is a bit expensive, but it's worth every penny. It was an excellent meal, in a casual environment. You are at a lake in Northern California, if you don't expect to pay you are in denial. We will be back to try dinner soon! read more

Service was great and the ambiance is very cute inside and out. The food offerings are more unique than lots in the area and I appreciate what they are trying for. It does seem somewhat high priced for what you get though and I know that's a tough call. As example though a very small slice of apple pie with small ice cream scoop was $10. Flanks steak for $35. Just not quite worth it to us for the level that they are - aka more of a drop in vs fine dining experience. I hope they succeed and find their niche though. I would recommend more as a lunch place than dinner. read more
