This place is legit! All of the workers have so much knowledge. We were debating getting my son a snake of bearded dragon or a sand boa. Can't remember the girls name that helped us, but she went over EVERYTHING. She's had snakes for years so her knowledge was so helpful to us. We ended up getting a beautiful baby ball python. Came in to the Serpentarium last week with my baby bull snake I had purchased recently off of morph market. My snake had multiple layers of stuck shed from poor husbandry from the previous owner. Staff was super knowledgeable and helpful with providing remedies to remove that stuck shed. Purchased a humid hide and moss that was recommended. The snake sat in that humid hide for about a week and finally today she was able to have a full and complete shed! Thankful for a place like this in town. My husband found a red-eared slider hanging out by our curb; we live on a very busy street. Called The Serpentarium to see what we should do. They told us we could bring the turtle in and they would be able to rehome him. We did have to pay $10 to "surrender" the turtle... I look at it as a donation and it's better then the poor turtle ending up road kill. My boyfriend wanted to get a Gargoyle Gecko and didn't want to ship it. I couldn't agree more, I didn't want to ship any animal. Seems inhumane and I can't believe business would do that. Unless they were being transported with other animals in a well ventilated vehicle and not being stressed out from being transported. I looked for a day, I wanted a newly hatched one so that the gecko could grow and get used to my boyfriend. Most places were selling adults and they were pretty pricey. I found The Serpentarium. They had baby available for $59. Keep in mind this pricing because its going to be brought up again. I called all their locations and each store said they didn't have in stock and that I needed to call another location. This was the last Serpentarium and I almost gave up. But luckily two stores had it. But one of them had the specific gargoyle gecko my boyfriend wanted, the reticulated. Its about a two to two and a half hour drive to Sacramento since I am from far South Side San Jose. Super excited, I asked how much it would for a habitat, food and the gecko together. Roughly estimate of $200 including tax. Something did not add up. I asked Jim over the phone how much the gargoyle gecko was and he said $89. That is $30 over the price that is posted on their website, of $59. I asked Jim since I am driving two to two and a half hours to their location, if I can have what was promised on the website. He said he wasn't sure but to email his boss, Robert, since he was available. So I did, and in hopes of getting the actual promised price I drove there since he said he only had two available. The reticulated one and the striped one and I definitely wanted the reticulated one. Emailing back and forth the boss, stressing with talk to text in my blue tooth free set. And it looks like the boss is not budging. Robert says the price online is lower because of shipping cost. But it doesn't state that on the website AT ALL. I finally get there, determined to get it regardless but I had to try one more time. I asked the guy I talked on the phone to see if he can call his boss and ask him himself. Only for him to walk into another room and talk to him directly. Seriously? He was there the whole time? Come on. If it wasn't for the Gargoyle Gecko being so cute, I would've given this place one star for not having anything on the website stating the actual amount. The only thing that remotely states about shipping was Terms & Condition. BUT NO WHERE STATES if you were to pick it up yourself, it would be "this price instead and we were sub-setting price online for shipping purposes." And I wouldn't be surprised if they posted it now after this review. read more

The Sepentarium in Lodi is a great place to take the family, especially on a cold or rainy day. For $2 you can see all the animals or for $4 you can get "the tour." The adults loved it as much as the kids. Get the $4 tour; it's an amazing amount of fun and knowledge for a few bucks. They take out most of the animals, describe them, and let you hold them. They'll also let you watch them feed animals (if you want.) We thought the kids might get upset at watching an African Bull Frog gulp down a mouse in a single bite, but the kids loved it. It was the adults who looked away. The kids held bright yellow snakes, had chameleons sit on their heads (they even got to name one of the chameleons--make sure they kept the name Smurf for the blue one.) Don't miss watching the colorful chameleons eat. See if you can catch their lighting-fast tongue on film. The owner will let you hand-feed them. The even have a 200-pound plus snake named: Dozer, short for Bull-Dozer. (The snake busted out of his cage in the middle of the night, setting off the alarms. Note: the cat, for protection, sleeps locked in the bathroom at nights!) They are currently designing a new cage for Dozer. The Sepentarium has: False Water Cobras, Burmese Pythons, Rainbow Boas, Anacondas, large Monitor lizards, Turtles and Tortoises, Geckos, Frogs, Tarantulas, and Scorpions. read more

My partner and I were inheriting a snake from a family member and we needed a whole corn snake getup from the ground up. Emily was able to provide and she was the kindest and sweetest. Bought my grand daughters a complete setup for Christmas. We wanted to have our habitat all figured out before getting our first Bearded Dragon. Please bare with me it was a proud papa moment for me. Hold on, I have something in my eye lol. The place is in an industrial zone next to many other warehouses of various businesses. Its really easy to find just off of Highway 12 in Lodi. As mentioned entry fee range from $5 or less. All entry fees will be credit for any purchases made that day. Saved me a ton after buying our dragon, substrate, meal worms, infrared thermometer, cricket box, and other supplies. My grand daughters ranging from 3 - 9 loved the place. The 4 adults enjoyed it too. They let the girls hold each of the dragons they had. Adults and babies. Very helpful staff. The younger guy is really knowledgeable and was very helpful. There is a young lady that works there also and she too was very knowledgeable. Great staff especially for us newbies. Not to mention they were very good with all the kids that were all over the creatures being shared. They brought out the python that can be touched, about a 90 lb beauty. They had a grouping of Terrariums in main room when you walk in. All containing snakes, baby bearded dragons, full grown dragons, Frill lizard, monitors, 3 huge iguanas., frogs, this awesome little blue gecko, etc. Upstairs is where the bigger reptiles are. When you walk up the iguana's start dancing and motioning to the door They want to be let out it seems. Awesome beautiful creatures. Also have turtles, boa's, rat snakes, pythons, terrantulas sp?. among other cool reptiles, and lizards. We are members now so we will be going back for monthly dragon checkups. She seems very knowledgeable of the items including the animals. She seems to greet the customers by name when she knows who they are which is a sign of great customer service. I always look forward to going in. Lana was more than willing to help me with my questions about my Savannah monitor. Her advice helped greatly. She also was able to assist me with getting me my past receipts that I really needed. She's always so friendly and willing to help! Tyler is very personable and honest with his advice. I belong to a group that sells items at the reptile shows. One of the group tried to leave promotional fliers there but they were tossed while she was still in the store. She had a bad experience trying to get some questions answered also. ' Perhaps they should see how big of a group of reptile people they have just insulted by their behavior. We are big into online posting and this experience is already being passed around. Someone should talk to employees about the fact that everyone is in this for the animals and it would only be right to treat like minded people , the kind who support your store, a bit more kindly. read more

If you must choose the one Serpetarium store out of all of them, the one we recommend most is in LODI. The manager SEAN is extremely professional, knowledgeable, very courteous and highly reputable when it comes to any question you may have about reptiles, arachnids, insect feeders, etc. Appreciate that he always polite and patient to his customers in person and over the phone. I brought my bearded dragon in today for a free checkup. He's been acting different and I thought he might be in brumation hybernation. Morgan confirmed that it was brumation and I was so relieved, she said it's that time of year and her beardie is doing the same thing. Dev was so helpful and super sweet to my daughter who shares her love of reptiles. I was very disappointed and so was my kids. This place is small. My kids had more fun in the pet store in Tracy mall. We expected what we see in pictures an interactive experience and all we go was a pet store you have to pay to enter. There was nothing to touch or to hold. The only thing cool was the sea turtle in the tanks. Other than that just a small pet store in a scrappy warehouse. I will not be back. Reply to Robert. I love this place! So clean and nicely set up. A reptile store done right! I'm not from the area, but I do make trips every now and then when I have the time to see what new things they have going on. I have been here a few times over the years and it pretty much changes every time I come in. I've bought a couple animals from them and have also done trades and sold them some snakes. They do great business on both ends. I love that this place is so self educational and yet the staff are also very knowledgeable and friendly and easy to approach if you have any questions. The animals are decent priced for a specialty shop. (I bought all my animals from their booth at expos) I have never bought any supplies from them, so I can't account for the price on those items, but honestly I'd say it's at a reasonable price. I like that it doubles as a museum if you're only looking, but it's also a pet store and you get the price of admission taken off your purchase if you do buy anything. I will say I wish there was a better way to pay for admission (it's only $2). I know in the past there used to be a gate and you had to pay before entering and now the gate is gone so you have to walk to the counter and pay before you look at anything, which is kind of distracting, especially if there's a line. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for bugs or almost any type of reptile and don't want to pay the high costs that you see at places like East Bay Vivarium. read more

I was puzzled by the actual location when we drove here because of all the warehousing developments around but saw the huge sign posted on the side of the building! My boyfriend and I both agree that it felt kind of cramped since it doubles as both a museum of sorts and a reptile store but it wasn't too hard to walk around since there was not too many people inside. A gigantic plus for not playing/blaring any music since that can usually distract from the experience. Some of the tanks weren't labeled but it was ok since there was enough staff walking around in case we had any questions. I'll probably come back here again with some friends to pick out a bearded dragon as a birthday present for the boyfriend when we move out together (: I'm looking forward to bringing some younger relatives in the future as well! read more

Small fee to get in which i am sure helps with the cost of care and feeding of the critters, plus you can apply your admission to a purchase (take home a couple hissing cockroaches and amaze your friends.) Favs are the Giant African Bullfrogs and of course the Bearded Dragons. If you are looking for a reptile or amphibian this is a much better go than a pet store.
