Okay place, never enough staff or always seem to "be busy" however never had too much an issue until attempting to have help rehousing a reptile. I have both enclosures ready and simply cannot and will not move her myself. I called dfw repterium 20 plus times never got an answer and drove there to ask for the service on which they said come back another day. So I take my angry ass over to the Serpentarium for the supervisor to say they could not do a service like this. There are 2 reptile and arachnid stores in all of DFW for where in the life of me can I find an expert to help? (I asked if they could help guide me somewhere with experts and had no help) read more

Went in to check things out didn't really feel welcome there, prices are advertised better than the only other local reptile stores. They are NOT! Same prices same stuff, I get it's a newer location and not as established as others if this business expects to succeed customer service should as well. I was ignored for the first ten minutes of being there. The things I was interested in I was offered short answers. I would like to give less than 1 star, but I can't (unfortunately). I purchased a baby iguana here, which quickly developed black marks all over his scales. I immediately took him to the reptile vet, and for the last 2 MONTHS he has been on oral antibiotics, antibacterial washes and silvadene cream twice daily. The vet visits and meds now total over $1k ! The vet has seen multiple pictures of his enclosure and lighting/heating (all sold to me by The Serpentarium) and verified that it is not due to a husbandry issue. He is still being treated, but is (thankfully) on the mend. I later purchased a baby Savannah Monitor from The Serpentarium. At that time, I chalked up the issues with the iguana to just things pet owners sometimes have to deal with and didn't automatically think it was due to negligence on the part of The Serpentarium. One day after purchasing the baby Savannah Monitor, I took it to my reptile vet to make sure everything was good and that there were no parasites (since these can be common in monitors). The Savannah Monitor seemed sluggish and wasn't eating, but since I'd only had her a day, the vet wasn't terribly concerned yet. We both thought it was just adjusting to a new home. Fast forward a few weeks, she never seemed to eat as expected, even though the parasite test was negative. She still seemed lethargic, and although she did drink water and did eat here and there, it was not how you would expect a healthy monitor to behave. I went over her enclosure, food, supplements, temps, and lighting with the vet and was again told everything sounded perfect. She died the following day. During those few weeks, I came back to The Serpentarium to purchase feeders for my other lizards and saw they were selling a larger iguana with the SAME BLACK MARKS. These are not typical markings, but signs of infection. Once you've seen them (and paid over a THOUSAND DOLLARS for vet care on your own iguana), trust me, you never forget! I was disgusted that they would sell an animal that was obviously not healthy, and further disturbed by the fact that they claim to do "free vet checks", but can't even recognize a MAJOR issue in the animals they are selling. There are other reviews mentioning that they sell sick animals. I believe one of the reasons they have so many "glowing" reviews is because they con you into leaving a review *** when you are there purchasing your animal***. They offer free feeders and other things to get customers to do this. I wonder how many customers who left great reviews, assuming their reptiles would be healthy and well, later found themselves with HUGE vet bills and/or a dead animal. And, in case anyone (or The Serpentarium) wants to blame me for these incidents, I also purchased 2 lizards from the DFW Reptarium, as well as one from Underground Reptiles online, in addition to two rescues I have taken in. THE ONLY ONES WHO ARE SICK/HAVE DIED ARE THE ONES FROM THE SERPENTARIUM - buyer BEWARE. I don't care about the money. I care that they are obviously not caring for their animals properly, and for that I believe they should be charged with animal cruelty. I will never shop there again and I will tell EVERYONE about my experience. read more

My household has adopted a Ball Python after having some prior experience with smaller reptiles, and we stumbled upon this small business today in search for food, and could NOT have dreamed of a better find! every employee there is so kind and helpful and willing to answer any and all questions, the selection of not only animals but food/substrates/live plants/ even the services they offer for your reptile are beyond compare! Jojo specifically was who helped us today, along with introducing us to other staff and took extra time to inform us of every single detail he thought would be beneficial. and their membership program is a phenomenal thing to offer their clientele, and this is absolutely a business that knows not only what they're selling but why. 10/10 will return weekly! read more

It's the little things that set this place apart. Buying a UVB bulb? They'll test it for you before you leave the store. Need crickets for your gecko? Bring your cricket keeper. They'll fill it up, check their food and water levels and probably knit them tiny individual sweaters for all I know -- they just go the extra mile. Oh, and of course they're very knowledgeable and friendly. Their staff made my 12-year-old daughter feel right at home. You can tell that they love reptiles and really want you to, too. Doesn't hurt that their prices are the best in town. read more

Sold me a unhealthy sulcata turtle ,when I was picking it out one had its eyes closed I asked a employee what's wrong with it he had no idea so I chose the only other one and couple days after I got it he wasn't eating ,wouldn't open his eyes and would just sit in the same spot all day I bought everything I had to buy spent like 700 on a basic setup and after a month of the tortoise acting like that he just died and now I feel horrible. don't buy from here just look up reptile expos coming up they're more reliable and way cheaper than this business that only cares about money read more

They put together a beautiful bioactive setup for my gargoyle gecko for free-one of the many services they offer. Experience coming in today was great. First notice was how clean the this place is! All of the enclosures are obviously well kept with what appeared to very healthy happy looking animals. There was no clutter smell or grime and all the product was organized nicely and easy to see. My Roomates daughter picked up a baby turtle over the weekend and we were just coming in to get a little advise on how to keep until she comes back next weekend and we were helped by a Ty. Ty was super helpful and generous with his advice / knowledge even through we were shopping for a small reptile. As we were selecting what products to set up with it got a little busy at the counter, Ty noticed the line and asked nicely if he could assist the other cashier while we looked something up online. he got the line down and came right back to us to get us with the right set up we were looking for. he did point out some more expensive stuff but did in a way that was very educational to us and helpful so we decided to go with the nicer line up of things without feeling up-sold or pressure to buy/shop more. Check out was quick and simple as well he let us know that even though it's small pond critter he'd be happy to do a check up on him if we bring it in. The drive is a little far for us but can confidently say it will be worth coming back and skipping all the places in between. You guys rock please keep it up! read more

There was a variety to view from snakes, chameleon, tarantulas, etc. The staff was very friendly and really took there time to explain different animals even though we only got crickets they really were attentive. Went there really like the layout and cage set up but one of the male employees was as not professional. We wanted to look at the Leopard lesser ball python. The girl couldn't tell the difference in the several morphs that were in the tank so she called over the younger male employee. He couldn't tell either so he did process of elimination, and then made the comment, "they all look the same to me, they look like king cobra food." That was a big red flag in my book. I'm a manager for a pet store and if one of my employees talked nonchalantly about feeding the animals that my customers that are looking at purchasing, I would coach him on not saying things like that. The male employee also walked up to his female coworker and put 3 live pinky mice in her hand and then walked away when she was in the middle of doing something. He just didn't come off as being very personal and very good at customers service. read more

He gave us great advise on animal care to think about before purchasing so that we were aware before owning one of the critters. I will not be spending any money here. To do so would be to fund animal abuse. They have a wide selection of reptiles and invertebrates, but the conditions in which the creatures are living is very poor. They have a wall of small tanks full of ball pythons of every size. The tanks are little more than 1'x1' and it does not matter the size of the python inside. Most of them contain more than one python, ranging in age from a baby to several years old. Those poor animals are extremely cramped, and its very concerning to see. Most of the enclosures for other reptiles are similar, although some are an appropriate size. The humidity in the reptile tanks and invertebrate containers do not appear to be appropriate for all creatures. Some of the tarantulas are in conditions too dry or too moist. There are arboreal species in horizontal enclosures, no doubt miserable because they lack the space to climb. Similarly, there are terrestrial species that lack sufficient substrate to burrow. It is clear that this store is focused solely on quantity rather than quality. The staff is not friendly at all and barely knowledgeable. Lastly, I witnessed a chameleon on display die and an employee simply threw it in the trash instead of disposing of it in a more dignified manner...as if the animal's life did not matter. This place should be closed permanently. The only redeeming quality would be their selection of decor for sale, albeit it is extremely overpriced. You're better off ordering your pets and supplies online or going to a different store. read more
