I'd like to rate 4.5 stars but will round up. Went here for dinner with wife. Same ambiance we remembered from years ago. The hostesses were nice and sat us quickly. Our waitress Claire (not sure of spelling) was exceptional. Cheerful, right amount of attention and was really good. I started with an old fashioned but was clear a non Wisconsin, non brandy, makers bourbon old fashioned. What came out was terrible. I think they still topped it off with sour mix or something. Claire was really nice and I decided to switch it to manhattan. No confusion. Or do I hoped. Either their makers bottle was married with something else, or they added sour again. I couldn't drink it. That was the ONLY negative. The chicken brochette was huge and delicious. The sea bass was soooo good. Moist and seasoned well. The mashed cauliflower was perfect. We'll be back and enjoy another meal. BUT I will watch the bartender make my next Old Fashioned. read more

Never been here before and tried it out from a workplace event as a guest. They had the back room saved for the event. It was nice they had their separate servers and great drinks. The buffet had a great spread and some gluten free options. I would recommend going here if you have a friend that has so dietary restrictions/preferences. I had a five course meal from appetizers, salad, soup, main entree, and dessert . Couldn't hold myself together after being so full. I haven't been to Jimmy's in years and so glad that my friend chose to have dinner here!! Came here on a Friday night. Parking lot was full but there are plenty of other areas to park since the restaurant is in a strip mall. Lots of customers inside. Place was cozy with a comfortable feel. Loved the fireplace!! We had reservations so we were seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly, very nice, and offered recommendations, which were spot on!! The Banana Old Fashioned was phenomenal!! Ratio of bourbon to bitters perfect. So delicious!! This was probably one of two restaurants who cooked the calamari to perfection; so buttery tender, lightly battered that was well seasoned. So good!! The house salad offered so many different vegetables, which is rare. We both ordered Jimmy's Pasta. Portion was huge!! Sauce was rich and creamy with generous portions of chicken, mushrooms, bacon, and melted cheese. I will definitely recommend and come back!! read more

Just my opinion... OMG what once was a great local restaurant is a HARD NO!!! Made a reservation for 6pm 12/26/25 for a "nice" date night and was seated at table 10. If they try to seat you at this booth ask for another. Right in front of the broiler where they cook steaks.. so it was hot and loud. The servers were busy walking back and forth which further added to the distractions and noise DRINKS... old fashion sweet had no bitters. Diet coke with lime but was told I couldn't have a paper napkin under it because there wasn't alcohol in it... Really ? APPETIZER.. cold mushy crabcakes with a bland sauce. Yuck Baked French onion soup served hot but the entire saucer was full of soup.. and just messy! Salad.. nothing fancy bland blue cheese dressing that was forgotten at drop off. What really was BAD? My main entree. Menu stated 2... 8oz pork chops. Combined they weren't even 8 ounces! Very thin fatty and overcooked. What should have been 160z/even 14 after cooking and approximately 3/4 to an inch in size were absolutely under sized which then means we were over charged and or didn't receive what was clearly stated on the menu!!!! served Grecia style which was a laddie of lemon oil and garlic. Too much and flavors didn't blend. Immediately taken off!! Over cooked baked potato sour cream forgotten upon drop off. No steak knife was provided so my husband had to get up...find a person to get them. (waitress got a new table) his 3... 3oz medallions were good but I would say they were closer to 2 oz each. GARLIC mashed potatoes had so much GARLIC they were over powering! By this time I was completely DONE. we boxed our leftovers and got the check. We paid in cash. 2 100.00 bills... we were given the wrong change by 50.00 and both immediately brought it to our servers attention. Yes it was corrected but just something we shouldn't have to experience. NEVER going back and seriously feel scammed by the portions of entrees. Waitress was trying to be friendly which quickly turned into oops I'm sorry x 5... to how did you want your steak cooked well after we ordered. 6 times being asked if I wanted another diet coke and being asked twice if we wanted the middle or end of the bread. Foods decent but not worth consistently rude customer service. They act as if coming into dine is such an inconvenience for them. We've been here more than once but won't be back. Our reservation was at 5:30 on a Friday night for 5 people. 3 of us (all seniors) showed up at 5:05 so that we could be seated and I could inform the wait staff that I wanted the check. KELLIOPI (probably spelling it wrong) said that she was the highest up of management there (first LIE), and that we could not be seated until our entire party arrived. I pointed out to her that my husband is 81 and using a cane, and that made NO difference to her. "This was their policy". We have been there many, many times before and we were always seated right away and just waited patiently for the rest of our party. The 'higher up' manager, John, showed up and I proceeded to speak with him. He informed me that the staff was not FULLY equipped to seat us right away and that the table was not ready !!!!! WHAT ????? I am 74 and could have set up the table in less than 30 seconds. John stated that if they seat us early, people would complain because their staff had not arrived yet and there would be no one to wait on them. SERIOUSLY, can you not tell your customers that "certainly, we can seat you (especially since my 81 year old walks with a cane), but we are not fully staffed yet, so please be patient. Well, MIRACULOUSLY, we were seated within the next 5 minutes. What happened to their "POLICY"? Once seated, our fabulous waiter had been there since 5:00 .... so .... yet another LIE. NEVER AGAIN WILL WE GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. I will eat a McDonalds burger in the parking lot in the rain before going back there .... not to mention that the food was not up to the old standards. When a restaurant, or any other business, can't have a bit of compassion (at NO EXPENSE to them) for older people .... well .... let's just tell LIE after LIE since that seems to be the way to do things these days. We brought my parents there for an 86th birthday celebration. We all appreciate good customer service and Jimmy's was amazing, and very patient with my parents. We reserved for 14 and updated at 4:30 pm to confirm that 12 would be attending. When we arrived at 5:15 pm for our 5:30 reservation, we were told we couldn't be seated until the majority of our group arrived. By 5:30, with seven of us present, staff said we now needed nine people, citing past no-shows, and mentioned that the policy was posted on a board at the entrance. This requirement was never communicated online, nor when I booked or updated the reservation via phone. This rigid, last-minute rule caused unnecessary frustration and delay. Once nine of us were finally present shortly after 5:30, we were seated in an empty room -- a space we could have enjoyed from the start. If a restaurant requires a minimum number of guests to be seated, this should be clearly communicated at the time of booking, not imposed unexpectedly upon arrival. read more

We asked for more bread and it was warm Needed to ask several times for refills on our drinks. Took over 1 hour before our main dinner was served. Probably due to not having the specials. The chicken and rib combo was not eatable. The chicken wing was burned and bread very dry. 1st Class Service and Great Food! We have been going to Jimmy's in Libertyville for over 20 years and it is our go to place for any special celebration or whenever we want a nicer meal. Then again, we've gone there just for our calamari fix. Located at the end of a shopping strip, you enter into a supper club type eatery. Lighting is lower, booths and tables, multiple sections, and darker wall coverings. A good size bar is in its own room to the right. A room in the back is available for special parties and events. From the main dining area you can look right into the kitchen area with cooks bustling and expediters getting orders ready for servers. We often see whole chickens on the spit spinning in the wood fired rotisserie. It's just fun to watch the operation, especially when it's busy. Servers have white tops, ties and black slacks with the trademark steakhouse black apron. Service is prompt and attentive. Very soon after being seated by the hostess, a server is there to take a drink order. The bar is full service with several tap beers. On each and every visit we have to get the Calamari (one pound for $19.95). We try calamari everywhere we go and this is by far, hands down, no doubt about it, nothing less than outstanding!!! Mostly rings with a few tentacles, very lightly battered, possibly a tempura style, and super quick fried to just get them lightly browned. Served with lemon wedge and cocktail sauce. My mouth waters just writing this. The seafood flavor is subtle and clean and the calamari itself cannot be more tender. No rubberiness here. On the other hand, we tried the Octopus appetizer special on a previous visit and we were a little disappointed. Served greek style, grilled, olive oil and seasonings, we found it to be a bit tough and lacking in flavor. Saganaki, the fun flaming cheese is always tasty and begs for an Opa! Every dinner we have ever had here is excellent. Dinners include a soup or salad, choice of potato or rice pilaf. We always get the salad which is a crisp iceberg blend, served super cold on cold plates. The garlic and the peppercorn ranch dressings are excellent. As for the potatoes, I hope they still offer the Garlic Mashed Potatoes as they are to die for. Roasted garlic adds just the right flavor to these spuds. There are several substitutes for the salads and taters. My sons favorite dinner was the Shrimp Alfredo Pasta. A huge portion of fettuccine with a tasty alfredo sauce loaded with shrimp. My wife loves the Greek Half Wood-Roasted Chicken ($19.95) with a side of Cheesy Mashed Cauliflower ($4.00 additional). This is one jumbo half chicken, roasted right there on their wood fired spit, topped with a lemony Greek sauce, accompanied with fresh steamed veggies. She subs in the mashed cauliflower for potato. Baked, broiled and served in a mini cast iron skillet, the cauliflower is seasoned just right topped with some caramelized cheddar cheese. I switch off between two dinners - the Jimmy's Pasta ($28.95) and Chicken Al Forno Pasta which I think is the same price. Both are served in a cast iron or aluminum skillet with a side of grated cheese for you to add extra goodness. These are so large that you will easily bring home another dinner. The Jimmy's Pasta has a white creamy wine sauce that melds with fettuccine, chicken, bacon, mushrooms, whole garlic cloves and onion, into which they add a couple cheeses, then broil it. Oh so good! The Chicken Al Forno Pasta is no longer on the menu, but those that know to ask for it can get it. The skillet is first loaded with pasta, then tossed with a wonderful marinara which then gets covered with a half of a roasted chicken, then topped with more marinara, cheeses and bread crumbs and sent to the broiler just before being delivered to your table, steaming and bubbling away. Clearly, one of my favorites. On a previous visit, we shared a slice of Lemon Cake and it was delicious. Some reviews say their prices are too high. We go out to eat fairly often and have our budget friendly places, but for something special or treating yourself, Jimmy's is it and when you consider the extra meals you get from the bring home left-overs, it's actually a good value. read more

The ambiance of the restaurant is quite impressive. The theme and feel create a very enjoyable and welcome dining experience. One child meal and 2 adult meals with no alcohol was over a $100. I felt the price was a bit high, particularly on the steak items. The food was good and portions we're generous. Biggest detractor from the experience was the large bearded Sweaty waiter with very little patience who became confused with many order requests. We were celebrating an anniversary and had a taste for steak. Prices however were high-not surprising I guess and we quickly changed our minds ordering roast chicken and chopped steak dinners. My chicken was not only a Sunday special, but succulent, plentiful and accompanied with potato and a nice carrot, broccoli vegetable. My husband said his beef was average. Portions were large and we both have plenty for a second meal. The service our waitress Nellie gave was very good. I told the manager. She surprised us by bringing a nice large ice cream portion with chocolate sauce to add to our dinner celebration. read more

I have been here many times and now will not go back. My husband and I and our 4yr old were meeting our 2 friends and their 3yr old here for a holiday dinner. We chose Monday at 4:30PM as to be respectful to diners. The restaurant was dead and the hostest would not seat us without everyone present. OK, the restaurant was empty. After our other party members arrived we were sat and our waitress asked what we would like to drink. We started off with a drink which was a double kettle and a titos(sngle shot) soda. The double kettle would normally be in a rocks glass but it was in a tall soda glass and the titos specifically he asked for a pint glass and we were told no to both of those glass options. WHY? no idea.Then we placed our appetizer and food order, the food was great. We gave the waitress 2 cards to split the bill evenly. She charged only 1 card and then said "can you zelle him for your portion?" to our friend because supposdly she said she charged our card. As of this morning she actually charged our firends card and we have to exchange money back. Which is fine but..again WHY? The customer service was so far out of commen sense world I cant even wrap my head around it. All of these little things were so odd I felt like i was in the twilight zone. If the restaurnt is empty at 430PM on a monday, sit us at a table. if we want our drinks in the normal galsses they are to be served in..use the glasses we want. We met up with some friends in the bar area around 4:00. Our server seemed rather new but, attentive. Music was a bit too loud for normal conversation even though there were very few people there. Ambiance was typical bar, nothing special. The food was typical bar food, here again, nothing special. Ordered their French onion soup... it was terrible. Onions not cooked well and waaaay too salty. It was crowded by 5:30-6/00 and just too noisy. Appeared to be our 1 server for the entire bar area on a Friday night I suppose for a neighborhood restaurant close by to unwind and have a few drinks it's ok but, if you're looking for someplace special, unfortunately this is not it. I was here tonight with a group of approximately 20 people. We had separate checks and our server was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Wednesday special prime rib. It was supposed to be 10 oz. It was an extremely thin cut, not even a 1/2 inch thick, very disappointing. I've had larger 8 oz. portions at other restaurants. It came with a portobello mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes, with carrots and broccoli. For $29.95 it wasn't worth it. Not sure if I'll come back or not. If I do it definitely won't have the prime rib, it was a total rip,off. read more

Nearly always amazing. Last time my chicken brochette Greek sauce was horrible, super salty, and it tasted really weird. Ruined the whole plate. Never happened before. Been going here for over a decade, our fave place. Only now & then will something be off, so we keep going back. Never been sick from their cooking. We wouldn't go there tho if we had to deal with the old gal who answers the phone, she is a BITCH. She doesn't know what is going on in the restaurant & she argues with you, basically telling you that you are a liar. I've gone to Jimmy's Charhouse for years! Multiple locations in fact. I started going there for the GINORMOUS bowl of Fettuccine Alfredo which has always been delicious and a favorite I passed on to my daughters and now my granddaughter. We went for dinner and, of course, she ordered the fettuccine. I found a special that sounded interesting "Filet Tips with Portabella Mushrooms, Melted Mozzarella on Fettuccine tossed in a Red Wine Bordelaise ???" Don't quote me, it's been it's been a couple days, and it's something I wouldn't naturally order. Anywho, the presentation was beautiful, as always. I couldn't understand why they didn't leave a sharper knife for the filet tips? Silly me! The large pieces in the bowl were the mushrooms. The filet tips were small and not tender. The mozzarella cheese was small pieces that stirred nicely into the pasta so you weren't eating gobs. I think leading with "Filet Tips" on the name of this dish is misleading and I'll be sure not to order it again. My dog did appreciate the small pieces of filet I pulled out though. SCORE! The end of the meal, always the best part... the CAKE!! My granddaughter and I both had a piece at the restaurant then brought three pieces home so papa would think we brought dessert home for all of us. I will definitely return to Jimmy's. We went here to celebrate our anniversary. We've been there many times before and always had good food & service. But this time, service was not good at all. The waitress was nice, but we spent a lot of time waiting for things up until we left. Waitress came to the table to say hi and to let us know she is getting us water, then comes back and asks if we want anything to drink and then goes and gets that and then comes back and takes our order. I ordered the trio medallions and she tells me they come with one topping but I could get different ones if I wanted so I ordered 3 different toppings. No mention of any up-charge. Food was good. Another person came and cleaned up the plates after a bit and then we waited for her to come back to ask for the bill. She asked if we wanted anything else and we said no - just the bill. So we waited. Then she brought it and walked away. I had given her a $20 certificate to apply but she didn't and they up-charged for the toppings - $3.00 each. She didn't come back so we went to the front desk and I explained that the certificate wasn't applied and there were extra charges which she didn't tell me. The owner stated that the coupon had been applied and the amount was correct, but then the waitress came up and pulled it out and said - oh here it is. The owner said - oh that was applied on a different bill. The owner said she would fix it and bring it to our table so we sat back down and waited again. Then we went back to the front again where the owner showed us the bill. Applied the $20 and said the up-charge was supposed to be $1.50 for each steak and not $3.00 and left the $1.50 x 2 on the bill. We were so frustrated by this time. We chose this place to celebrate our Anniversary and was not enjoyable. So most likely will not be back. read more

If you're looking for big portions at reasonable prices, in a charhouse setting -- this is your place. Food is plenitful at Jimmy's Charhouse no matter what you order, although the quality of each dish can vary considerably. This is perhaps my biggest criticism as the lack of consistency prevents me from giving a whole-hearted endorsement. This applies to the same dish cooked on different days as well. With that said, parking is easy and plentiful and service is above average (although I've never been here when it's very busy). The atmosphere and decor is what you'd expect out of a charhouse, of which I'll have to apologize in advance for sub-optimal photos due to the low lighting. Here are my thoughts on some of the different items I tried: Bread: This was alright, but I would have liked something a bit more crispy and fluffy. It goes alright with the soups, but wasn't great as a standalone item. Baked french onion soup: A bit of sweetness with a dose of earthiness and just the right amount of saltniess. This is probably the signature item for which you'll remember the restaurant by more than any of the entrees. This is an item you definitely have to try at least once, but not so special that you have to order it each time. Beef vegetable barley soup: Lighter with a good full body from the mix of vegetables (especially celery root). A small bit of beef adds a good savory touch to the dish. Shrimp and scallop pasta: A great pasta with a generous amount of shrimps and scallops. Probably the best dish I've had here. Honey Mustard Glazed Berkshire Porkchop: It was good, but not great. I don't think the preparation did the best job of really drawing out the pork flavor. It was still fairly tender and enjoyable though. Jimmy's BBQ Combo: Nice selection of different meats. The chicken was pretty tender but a bit light on flavor. The pork was also tender but depended a bit too much on the gravy for flavor. The standout item was the ribs which was both tender and flavorful. Deep fried walleye pike: Big portion of fish in a crispy batter. It was a bit salty though, so I wasn't a huge fan of the preparation. Garlic mashed potatoes: Buttery, fluffy, and full of garlic flavor. The perfect side to accompany any dish. Homemade flan: Good strong egg taste and just about the right amount of sweetness. One of the best versions of this dish that I've had this year. Overall, this is a reasonably good option for nice charhouse items at reasonable prices. The food can be a hit or miss at times but in general is pleasing, especially for the price. The restaurant itself is large and good for hosting large parties with plenty of parking. read more

My family and I have been coming to this spot for years. While the service is a little hit or miss, we keep coming back for the consistent food quality. It definitely has a steakhouse ambiance, so my family prefers to sit in the bar area. It's a little lighter and they have live music at times. It can be a little loud, but that's to be expected at a bar. You can never go wrong with their chicken (grecian style is wonderful - lemony and garlicy), their ribs are to die for (delicious BBQ sauce, lots of meat) and their pork with stuffing is delicious! Their lamb is also really good - can't go too wrong! A lot of their appetizers are also good, try the octopus. Garlic mashed potatoes are my go-to side!
