Never been here before and tried it out from a workplace event as a guest. They had the back room saved for the event. It was nice they had their separate servers and great drinks. The buffet had a great spread and some gluten free options. I would recommend going here if you have a friend that has so dietary restrictions/preferences. I had a five course meal from appetizers, salad, soup, main entree, and dessert . Couldn't hold myself together after being so full. I was hoping to get the steak for the event but I'll have to come back and try it The lighting is a bit on the darker side in case you were wondering about lighting lol.

I haven't been to Jimmy's in years and so glad that my friend chose to have dinner here!! Came here on a Friday night. Parking lot was full but there are plenty of other areas to park since the restaurant is in a strip mall. Lots of customers inside. Place was cozy with a comfortable feel. Loved the fireplace!! We had reservations so we were seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly, very nice, and offered recommendations, which were spot on!! The Banana Old Fashioned was phenomenal!! Ratio of bourbon to bitters perfect. So delicious!! This was probably one of two restaurants who cooked the calamari to perfection; so buttery tender, lightly battered that was well seasoned. So good!! The house salad offered so many different vegetables, which is rare. We both ordered Jimmy's Pasta. Portion was huge!! Sauce was rich and creamy with generous portions of chicken, mushrooms, bacon, and melted cheese. I will definitely recommend and come back!!

Had a private party at Jimmy's Char house Sunday afternoon. Nice interior, albeit a bit dark. Th service and food were both good. I had the salmon with garlic potatoes and my husband ordered the 1/2 Wood Roasted Chicken which also came with garlic potatoes.

Just my opinion... OMG what once was a great local restaurant is a HARD NO!!! Made a reservation for 6pm 12/26/25 for a "nice" date night and was seated at table 10. If they try to seat you at this booth ask for another. Right in front of the broiler where they cook steaks.. so it was hot and loud. The servers were busy walking back and forth which further added to the distractions and noise DRINKS... old fashion sweet had no bitters. Diet coke with lime but was told I couldn't have a paper napkin under it because there wasn't alcohol in it... Really ? APPETIZER.. cold mushy crabcakes with a bland sauce. Yuck Baked French onion soup served hot but the entire saucer was full of soup.. and just messy! Salad.. nothing fancy bland blue cheese dressing that was forgotten at drop off. What really was BAD? My main entree. Menu stated 2... 8oz pork chops. Combined they weren't even 8 ounces! Very thin fatty and overcooked. What should have been 160z/even 14 after cooking and approximately 3/4 to an inch in size were absolutely under sized which then means we were over charged and or didn't receive what was clearly stated on the menu!!!! served Grecia style which was a laddie of lemon oil and garlic. Too much and flavors didn't blend. Immediately taken off!! Over cooked baked potato sour cream forgotten upon drop off. No steak knife was provided so my husband had to get up...find a person to get them. (waitress got a new table) his 3... 3oz medallions were good but I would say they were closer to 2 oz each. GARLIC mashed potatoes had so much GARLIC they were over powering! By this time I was completely DONE. we boxed our leftovers and got the check. We paid in cash. 2 100.00 bills... we were given the wrong change by 50.00 and both immediately brought it to our servers attention. Yes it was corrected but just something we shouldn't have to experience. NEVER going back and seriously feel scammed by the portions of entrees. Waitress was trying to be friendly which quickly turned into oops I'm sorry x 5... to how did you want your steak cooked well after we ordered. 6 times being asked if I wanted another diet coke and being asked twice if we wanted the middle or end of the bread. I get it... but every interruption stopped our conversation and was just too much. Cannot recommend and really wish we didn't waste our money and time. Do better!

We are longtime patrons of Jimmy's! This visit, Julie, Phillip and team did an outstanding job serving our graduation party. I thank the reception desk for handling our reservation - so helpful with our questions and updates. Jimmy's still has the familiar decor & charm. Everyone enjoyed their meal - from Grecian chicken to salmon to pasta, steak to lamb chops! It did not disappoint! Thank you!

    Does this restaurant take reservations?

    Yes they do.

Is this same owners that were on Milwaukee avenue years ago? I've been away for 13 years and remember Jimmy's as a reasonably priced good restaurant that never left me down. I'm in Lincolnshire for the summer. Thinking of taking the drive.

We started with Caesar Salad and a Prosciutto and Mozzarella dish. Both were good. The Caesar greens were a little "old and brown" but still tasted good. The Prosciutto dish was really good and fresh. Everyone doing great. We ordered some cocktails that were on point as well. Service was slow - probably had a little to do with being on a second floor of the restaurant. But we enjoyed the pace. Entrees ordered were 2 different steaks and one Bacon wrapped chicken. The steaks were amazing. A lot of places, even steakhouses, are cutting back on quality due to costs. These steaks were delicious. I ordered the Allen Bros Ribeye which was cooked perfect and was sooooooo flavorful. It was awesome. The Bacon Wrapped Chicken however, was actually black on top and the chicken dry and over cooked. My wife couldn't eat it. To the restaurant's strength, when we alerted the waiter, they immediately took it off the bill and offered to get anything else. When my wife passed (she ate some of our steaks), they bought dessert for our table too. It was the carrot cake and delicious. We will be back and enjoyed our evening out.

After several visits, it is clear this is a restaurant that understands the fundamentals of fine dining: atmosphere, execution, and a menu that extends well beyond its steakhouse label. What first sets The Tavern apart is its ambiance. The space leans into a dark, romantic, dimly lit aesthetic that feels both polished and inviting. On our most recent visit, we were seated upstairs according to our reservation, and that remains the preferred setting. The quieter noise level above the main floor allows for more comfortable conversation and a more intimate dining experience. Service was solid, if not especially memorable. Our server was efficient and capable throughout the evening, though somewhat lacking in warmth and guidance. Fortunately, the kitchen carried the night with ease. Every entrée at the table was excellent. My wife's lobster was particularly well received, while the steaks were cooked properly, deeply flavorful, and presented with the kind of care expected at this level. Presentation across the board was refined and appealing. The wine program also deserves recognition. The list is extensive, thoughtfully selected, and offers strong choices for diners who appreciate pairing a serious bottle with dinner. The Tavern is undeniably a high-price-point experience, but it largely delivers the quality and atmosphere to justify it. For those seeking a refined steakhouse meal in Libertyville with strong food, notable wine, and an intimate setting, it is easy to recommend.

Our server Chad explained the menu in detail, offered recommendations, and took great pride in the restaurant. Everything is made from scratch, and they have a beautiful open kitchen. We started with the octopus, which our friends and Chad both recommended, and it lived up to the hype. They sous vide it so it's super tender, then crisp it for that little crunch you want in an octopus appetizer. The romesco and chorizo combo had us scraping the plate clean. For dinner, my husband had the hanger steak served with a large bone filled with bone marrow, along with brioche, truffle butter, and the Aligot and Brussels sprouts for sides. The Brussels and butternut squash were sweet, spicy, crispy, and salty - just amazing. I had the monkfish, which is very similar to lobster, and it was delicious! The servers got our drink orders, and I got a Blueberry Mint N/A cocktail that was on the sweeter side. Most people got the same exact drink which most people enjoyed! With the set menu, we each enjoyed an appetizer, main course, and gelato for dessert: SOUP OF THE DAY Between soup and salad, I almost always go with soup. The soup of the day was broccoli cheddar. It came out piping hot, which I really enjoyed. The soup was creamy and salty, with a good blend of both broccoli and cheddar flavors. LIGUINI & CLAMS (WHITE SAUCE) Clams were not washed thoroughly, so there was some grittiness in some of them. There was an abundant of linguini pasta, topped with minced clams, parsley, and other aromatics. The white wine sauce was really loose and didn't stick onto the linguini well. While the aromatics helped, it was still a bit bland. I think having a spoon to scoop up the sauce to enjoy the linguini would have been nice, but the sauce itself was on the lighter side in terms of flavor. This was just okay. GELATO Light and refreshing vanilla gelato, this was a good way to end the meal. However, I don't really remember too much about it so it probably wasn't exceptional nor terrible. Overall, service was really slow. We got seated around 5:15, but our first course didn't come out until an hour later, and our main came out 45 minutes after that. Besides the pacing issue, food was pretty average, so 3/5 it is.

It is a noisy place full of older customers that know everyone in the place. Lots of customers hugging the staff, talking with the owners, and other tables. A great atmosphere if you are a local. One of the owners even suggested carrot cake for our desert. Really good by the way. We did see a number of regulars tables that were receiving complimentary appetizers. I get it, but you should treat first time customers the same to make them repeat customers? The issue was with service and how we were treated after we had to get service. Our server disappeared once our main course was ordered. Yes the place was packed, but the server made sure she kept on touching base with the regulars tables and we received less attention. Well like no attention. Well like we had to go to the bar to one of the owners to get our check. Well and when my significant other tried to comment that we had a lack in service the owner walked away from us. She turned a really nice first time experience into a never going back and write a bad review experience. (And my significant other was mad the whole evening, which made the event worse for me.) I ordered the Pad Thai with tofu, the staple menu item I order each time I visit. My guest ordered the Mongolian beef. My pad Thai came out visibly different than times past. It looks almost watered down and the tofu was not coated and seared with the beautiful crust it normally has. I ate it and it tasted... sour. Normally this pad Thai leans savory over sweet, but this time it just straight up tasted sour. The tofu was nothing to write home about, which is typically not the experience I have here. The Mongolian beef tasted like it had more sear on the meat than actual beef. It tasted over-charred. The rice and veggies were good, but that's kind of a simple feat. I ordered the Pomegrantate martini which was good. The space was also very hot, I understand it's a hot day and a busy restaurant but my legs were dripping in sweat the entire hour we were there. I will give them a try again, because I know from previous experiences the pad Thai was usually great. That tofu is what I keep coming back for! Hopefully next time it'll meet my expectations.
