A friend invited me to the monthly NPR "The Moth" show and we had hoped to arrive early enough to get dinner beforehand. While we failed in that goal, we were fortunate enough to be able to get awesome service after the show. We both ordered sandwiches and fries: she got the 400 Burger and I got the Hot Star Chicken Sandwich. Our food came out piping hot and it was clear the fries were not only cut in house, but freshly fried per order. My sandwich had a massive, tender and juicy chicken breast that had a Buffalo wing sauce, blue cheese, pickles and "shrettuce" (shredded lettuce-cute name). It was delicious. The fries were equally tasty, perfectly crunchy on the outside with a soft center, just the way I like them. We could have split an order of fries, we both left many on our plates, having eaten well. I enjoyed the venue as well for the show; the stage and seating area is cool and there's a bar for libations. Add the awesome service and you can see why it's got mainly 5 star ratings across the board. I like this spot and will be back. read more

ArtsRiot is a super cool venue with a great kitchen. They do have a lot of musical acts that we have not made it to yet, but we have gone for dinner often. During good weather, they have a truck stop event and invite all the local food trucks. It gets super crowded, is dog friendly (inside and out!) and is usually a good time. They also serve some of their regular menu offerings from a food truck out back. I am OBSESSED with their pork belly gyro. Perfectly sweet pork belly, crunchy kimchi, and some kind of magic sauce. Ethiopian night - seems to happen once a month or so and a local woman takes over the kitchen. There are no Ethiopian restaurants anywhere nearby so I am super grateful for the option. You have to make reservations beforehand and it does get crowded. Food is pretty good - an odd group of roasted veggies accompanied our meal. Traditional sour injera and the vegetarian platter had the typical lentil curries and greens. Small thing missing is the small salad that typically comes on an Ethiopian platter (and their limited menu didn't have an option). read more

Somehow every restaurant and brewery in Burlington was booked for the entire weekend and there was one time left at ArtsRiot for dinner. It was a japanese pop up night and it was just alright. Chicken was good, tofu was bad and brussel sprouts were ok. Beer selection was lackluster considering the options around and the mix drinks were boring. We felt pretty lucky and appreciated the speed of the sitting. The spicy cucumber dish received great reviews from the table and even though I am not a big cucumber fan - I admit it was tasty. The mains came and the burgers were enjoyed by the boys, but we were completely disappointed that the spicy chicken sandwich was the popcorn chicken bites between two buns? What? First time visit to Burlington. I was only here for one night and used Yelp to find this place. I wanted a place at the bar to eat dinner, but all spots were taken. Luckily one opened up after 10 minutes. Pretty busy for a Wednesday night. A pretty interesting concept melding art, food, drink, and art. I didn't have much time, so my review covers food and drink only. Had a Gin N Juice cocktail - tasked good, a bit too sweet for my liking. To start I had the Pork Belly Bao with cucumber - excellent dish. The fresh cucumber and cilantro meshed perfectly with the Pork Belly. For the main course, I had the Gnocchi - this dish was good, not great. To be honest, there were so many other things that looked interesting on the menu, that I will have to make a second visit. I'm always a fan of this place. I love the atmosphere and the food. My friends and I also really love the trivia nights. But I've had a few issues with making reservations. Number 1, about 90% of the time when I call there, I end up having to leave a message. Number 2, after leaving said message, I get no response at all. Number 3, because of this, I have to perpetually call and call and call until I get someone on the actual phone/leave multiple messages. Well this time, I went with a group of 6, and we really wanted to do trivia. I had done the aforementioned steps above and got no answer on whether or not we had actual reservations. I figured I'd get there early to try and see if we could snag either an extra table or at least something close by. I was fine with whatever. When I got there, they said they were full. I explained that I did try and call last week, but to no avail. I understand now (after going through this process) that we need a call back/confirmation from a host that we actually have seating. The host then said, "Let's see what we can do." While they were trying to accommodate the six of us, I did tell them about how I did definitely leave a message, and that the last time I tried to set up a reservation, no one answered the phone and I had to call multiple times, and finally got so frustrated I ended up posting on the facebook event wall asking about making reservations. Just simply trying to make some sort of conversation happen instead of awkwardly standing in front of the host table. Host: Well you just saw, we answer the phone. If you don't get a call back from us, you don't have a reservation. Me: I understand that, I'm just telling you what happened so maybe it doesn't happen again. Host: If you're that upset, you don't have to eat here. Meanwhile, I'm really not as upset as they appear to make it, but I'm just simply waiting and I have resting bitch face I guess. But he keeps on and on about how "If i'm that upset, I don't have to eat here." To which finally I reply "The more you keep talking about it, the more upset I will become. I just want to wait for my group." The Host walked away after that. I could see he was trying to avoid me. My group got there, we sat down, we had a really good time. Apparently a group had cancelled and we were able to get a seat actually inside the events area. The other host was really nice about it, and I had felt bad for being slightly snippy before, so I tried to be grateful and forget about the debacle that got us into the place. I was really appreciative that they did try to find us seating, instead of saying "Hey we're full I'm sorry." but I don't think the added badgering really helped. It felt almost like the first host really didn't want us to be there. Still love the food! And the trivia is great when it comes down to it. But sometimes these impressions do last. Maybe I'll just avoid that host, but there needs to be a better system for making reservations during events like this. read more

Our experience at Arts Riot was everything I want in a dining experience these days. The food was interesting and well executed, and it was served in a casual laid back setting that was utterly lacking in pretension. The food was fun as was the entire experience. The menu, stamped with the current date, obviously changes somewhat frequently. It differed from the one online, but that worked out well for us, as it featured a couple of things we'd seen elsewhere but that weren't currently listed on the website. (Yum spicy chicken sandwich!) The brocolini dish, with carrots and farro was straight up incredible. It ranks as one of the best vegetable dishes I've had anywhere. The flavors played off of each other perfectly. I know I've already used the term once, but the dish just had a playful sense of fun to it. It was brightly colored and looked as good as it tasted. The kimchi pork cheek was also excellent. The meat was tender and delicious. The sauce spicy and full of flavor. Each bite was really a joy to eat. We were torn between several dishes, and while I'm sure that we couldn't have gone wrong, we were thrilled with our choice. Finally, we liked our server. He was laid-back and willing to answer the many questions we had about the menu. Oh, and one last thing. The price was right. It proves that an excellent and innovative meal does need to be out of reach. This is a place that I'd easily feel like I could afford to visit frequently. I LOVE the the Truck Stop night on Fridays that Arts Riot organized! So of course I wanted to check out the place itself as their menu changes daily. I wanted to have the BBQ so we went on a Thursday night. When we arrived it was slightly confusing as to if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We eventually figured out that we need to seat ourselves but it took a little bit for the waitress to come over. When she did come over she mentioned that they "were like, out of menus" and I just responded that we fine sharing two. We all opted for the pulled pork platter and were shocked at the size. The portion was large and came with corn bread-which we found too salty, a mix of bean and rice- which was very tasty, and some pickles that I was not very partial too. The meal was so large that I was unable to finish it and took some for home. It was a good lunch at work the next day! I want to mention that I found the pulled pork to not be very "pulled". There were large chunks of whole pieces of pork and it just didn't seem as juicy or succulent as it could have been. This was a slight disappointment. I have been searching for great BBQ in the Burlington area and this was just okay. The other reason I am going with three starts is because while trying to eat dinner, a whole line of people formed right by our table in an attempt to get into the art gallery portion of the place... it would have been really nice to eat food away from all those eyes. Maybe Arts Riot should consider having a separate entrance to the Gallery open while people are eating....... read more

Super fun place to get together with friends and hang out on the weekend. Love the Friday food truck vibe. From the moment I entered late 90s/early 2000s music was playing. ArtsRiot you won my heart from the start. The music just didn't stop being awesome. Lots of drinks options, the Citizen cider was great and the cocktail I ordered was delicious and strong. Nice to get a bang for my buck! Service was fast and the bartenders were chill. There was a drag show while I was there which I intended to go but go too distracted by my friends and the food. We needed a quick meal in the Burlington area, and as usual, used our Yelp app to land us at Artsriot. I really liked the vibe in here - cozy and moody. The food seemed to have an Asian flair to it. We had the fried mushrooms and lettuce wraps. The food was good, but a bit salty. The taps were great - I enjoyed Fiddlehead on draft. The only thing I would mention is that they have this really awkward 2 seater smack dab in the middle of the dining room. It's not great placement for a table. When we got there we asked for a better seating option since several other tables were empty, and they said that all other tables were reserved for parties of 4 or more - that's fine, but it was past dinner and the place was not busy. We ended up sitting up at the bar to avoid sitting at that awkward table. read more

Poor venue. This place seemed like it had a bit of charm with the food truck situation in the summer. But the winter scene is another story so far. Not only are the drinks over priced. The bartenders are wildly inconsistent every time! ****this is the biggest issue***** If you are a non-creative and don't mind having your drinks be limited to boring local beer with too many flavors of who knows what, then this place will have you covered. But if you ask for any cocktail, forget it. It will be top $ price with bottom $ skills. Where do they find these bartenders? I've been here multiple times this winter now and consistently find myself more and more disappointed. They absolutely cannot make the same drink twice. PLEASE WATCH YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON HOW TO BARTEND. The space is large. And the stage is only a little awkward. People tend to only dance a little, perhaps the older age of the audience has something to do with it. But then again, I have only been inside 6 times this winter. Look at the age of the reviewers that have left this place a positive review so far: OLD. The layout is nice - broken into two areas. And allows for a nice break from the usual sad dancing scene near the stage. It is always nice to go get some poorly mixed drinks and then go back and feel uncomfortable dancing with old people who wont move faster then 20bpm. They also have poor ticketing systems. A group of our friends purchased tickets to their jam band new years eve only to have them returned to them the next day. They were lucky to not go and save the money. When is Burlington going to realize jam bands and plaid are not cool???? This place is over priced. Over blown. Over appreciated. All talk. And lacking the potential it seemed to have originally. The initial buzz is fading fast. Fix this venue, where is the enthusiasm? Arts Riot isn't that cool of a name either. Don't keep trying to get by on coolness only. Stop the plaid. Fix the drinks. Get some good music that isn't jam bands. BTV has some good DJ's. Do that. Save this place!!!! Don't let the Fresh Market curse come to fruition. read more

Amazing performer Laurel before we were seated. The food was great. The short story: the food is three stars, the price takes it down to two, the burgers are great, avoid the fries. We came in for dinner. We ordered a little burger, a side of fries and the triple hunan bowl, without pork. We were warned that the burger was very little indeed, and went for it. It was tiny. It was basically a slider, but we were warned. It was really delicious, though, and had us thinking we should have both gotten full-size burgers. The fries were utterly negligible. They'd have not been out of place in a diner, aside from the $6 price. Those were not $6 fries, they were $1.50 fries at best. Overly crispy and bland. My food, the triple hunan bowl (without pork) definitely had pork in it. Like the guy made it, remembered to leave the pork out and fished it out, but missed some pieces. Pretty disappointing when I bit into those bits of oddly-colored "chicken." The dish itself wasn't bad, but was very dry and not all that flavorful. It cost $17. I would rate it an $8 bowl at best. My friend got a drink. It cost $13, which I think is ridiculous, but it was strong and she really liked it, so... that's perfectly fair. After dinner we tried a dessert and got the peach... uhh... I forget the name. it was a peach cobbler sticky bun thing with ice cream. It was pretty alright, no real complaints there. I wouldn't get it again, but it was okay. Our waitress (Zoe) was very nice and capable. In the end I thought the food, minus the burger, was just okay. The prices, though, were taking things too far. $17 for a bland and dry bowl of chinese food and $6 for really awful fries is pretty unforgivable, even for fare in a modern and pleasant hipster setting. I wouldn't mind coming back and trying one of those burgers. Maybe someday. read more

Holy smokes! Coming here, I knew this was going to be a surprise hit given the cool name. Came here on a Saturday night around 8pm and didn't have to wait to be seated at all. Vibe: Nice cozy feel with a cool and funky vibe. Staff was friendly and really passionate about the food here. You can just feel it when they give their recos of what to try. Food: Popcorn Chicken - Received a basket-full of these and finished every last piece. Scallops & Pork Belly - no longer on the menu (and i feel bad for you) but let's just say WOW. I NEVER order scallops as an entree because I'm usually disappointed and I don't find it filling at all. However, the way the waitress described the dish, my partner had to order it. It was so amazing and you can really tell that the chef is passionate about the food by just the way the flavors meld together so well! It was sweet, sour and salty - all in one bite! Can we give this more than 5 stars? Started with cocktails, an Asian inspired mojito and a raspberry / gin concoction. Both very refreshing and expertly mixed. Our pot sticker app came out quickly and was on point. Then came the entrees, the 400 burger (which was great, high quality beef) and the star of the show, the kung pao triple medley (shrimp, pork, and chicken) which was outrageous. Literally, one of the tastiest dishes we have eaten in a long time. Sadly, no room for dessert. Our server was very pleasant and answered all our questions about the menu. I simply cannot get to ArtsRiot enough. It is such an interesting space and business - always changing, never stagnant. ArtsRiot is a vibrant community unlike most of the staid establishments in Burlington. ArtsRiot hosts art exhibits, concerts, homebrew/craft beer tastings, poetry slams, etc. It's just got a really cool vibe. It is no coincidence that I also love Duino Duende, which has a similar, although more music-centric, model. ArtsRiot is dedicated to a celebration of the arts and culture, joined together by a really fantastic menu. We are always very satisfied with the food, drink, and service for its speed and friendliness. Also, their current Daily Double "happy hour" promotion is an unbeatable value. This is a really cool venue. The food is good and the drinks are better! They always have live bands and cool events. If you're taking a trip to Burlington I would suggest stopping by. If you have an opportunity to go to their "truck stop" night I would highly recommend it. All of the food truck vendors park in their backyard and it's a bit of a festival. read more

ArtsRiot is enjoyable. My favorite aspect of this place is how aware of themselves they seem to be. I really like that. No pretending to be something they are not. They are always on point when it comes to staff. Which I have found hard to come by in the Burlington area. Many places up here automatically assume you are a tourist or college student and pass bizarre judgements. At Arts Riot the staff seem to have no care on what or where you came from. Modesty is important, and here they are modest. The food really is incredible. And an excellent value. Yet they do not tout their food horn like many of the Fake Fancy places in the area. Instead they tell of the experience. There is always something different and curious going on. It is so nice to have that variety in such a stale city. The crowd is always a great mix of this and that. How nice. Who knows what all of these people are? It is definitely fine with me; because no matter what the occurrence the staff have the situation under control. It is worth mentioning that I am potentially bias to this place as it is walking distance from me. And in a so called Walkable City like Burlington I am hard pressed to find decent places to walk to in the South End. If I didn't like this place I would be out of walking luck. It is mostly a fun time no matter the occasion. Except for the occasional Yoga Friday that may carry with it a fascinating odor. Check their calendar. Came initially for the home brew competition and got food as well. The decor was (for lack of a better word) very hipster but there's definitely nothing wrong with that! There are a few two-person tables and a few 6-person tables for larger groups. My girlfriend got the fish tacos while I got the 400 burger. Both were very good and fresh. I particularly love that the burger uses "Murican" chesse. The home brew competition was great, albeit very crowded. There were about 7 brewers with 10-12 different brews. This review is devoted to the food truck Fridays in the summertime. I had really high expectations for the event because I've heard so much about it. The food truck event is good for families and always crowded. You can get a bracelet at the door for alcoholic beverages. The music is nice and there's a small seating area. I love the concept and the vibe of the event, but the food didn't wow me and neither did the lack of a large variety of food for the food trucks. I got Truffle fries from Dolce VT. They use white truffle oil and the fries are very crispy. Size is relatively large so definitely can share. I like everything about these except they're a little too oily. From Hindquarter, I got the crispy duck over the banh mi. This definitely disappointed me. The duck by itself would've been really good, but with cucumbers dipped in vinegar and the french baguette buns, I couldn't taste the duck too much. The duck itself was crispy and good, but it was too mild for my tastes. Duck should always be very rich in flavor for my Asian tastes. read more

Truck stop was a great event. Happening every Friday until October. There was a good variety of food options! The food prices were very reasonable. Keep in mind you want to bring-in cash as most places thats all they take! The ambiance was great, music playing, kids dancing and dogs enjoying the smell of the delicious food.
