We came in on a Sunday night. The hostess said it would be about a 20 minute wait which seemed odd since the restaurant seemed fairly empty. It ended up being like an hour which was a tad annoying. The bartender was nice and we chatted a bit. Our mocktails were great and we ended up ordering an appetizer as we waited. The poke nachos were amazing. Then we ended up ordering our main meal at the bar before we were seated at our table. The cheesy broccoli soup was just ok. The red snapper over Pesto risotto was good. Our waitress didn't have time to be super chatty and friendly. Apparently she was the only one there and she was working her butt off. We witnessed her dealing with an incredibly rude customer. A large group, we were staying at the rental cottages on the property for a fishing event. None in our group were aware that the restaurant took reservations so we had to wait about an hour on table for eight on a very busy Friday night. Totally worth it. One seated our table service was fast and super friendly. We ordered the Duck Wontons and the Walleye Cheeks for apps and a round of cocktails, mostly Old Fashioned's. Most of us got the Fish Fry as well. The food was all very good here and the wait staff was very friendly. Shores is a great supper club. Our experience was definitely five stars. read more

Love this spot! We come here for dinner each year we visit with friends. An approachable restaurant with really great food! We LOVE the martinis:) Our group enjoyed the fish fry dinner (all you can eat comes with 3 huge pieces of fish!!) And I liked the garlic red potatoes as the side. Others enjoyed the Poor Man's Lobster meal. We all split bang bang shrimp, the scallops (cooked SO well), and the mozzarella sticks for appetizers. read more

Friends of ours who are supper club fans have been to the Shores before so they brought us along. It is highly recommended that you make a reservation - not many supper clubs take them so do so in this case. Even though it was a Sunday evening we saw people get turned away since they were short staffed (no surprise) and had limited capacity. We found some seats at the bar and were handed menus so we could order our dinners - now this is typical of Wisconsin super clubs. When the food was ready they seated us. As we waited we ordered some drinks. Since I was at a supper club I did my usually test of a brandy old fashioned sweet. It was pretty lousy. The bartender was obviously a newbie since he had to consult some list of how to make different drinks the others in the party were interested in. He was clueless. Once our food was ready we were seated. We had a partial view of the lake across the street from our table (it is not right on the lake). The salads and bread and cheese spread were all solid. My cajun spiced perch was very good. Hot and crispy. My wife's ahi tuna was fantastic (not a typical supper club staple). I am not a big tuna fan but I gave it a try and it was delicious. Our server was hustling and very pleasant. We did not opt for dessert or dessert drinks (given the bartender). As we explore Wisconsin supper clubs I would check out some others before returning here but overall it was a good experience - just hope for a veteran bartender when you are there! read more

We were pretty impressed with the Shores. Really nice atmosphere and very friendly and caring staff. The Poke nachos are to die for. I had a NY Strip which was definitely done to my liking ( just above Rare) the hash browns and mushrooms were really good. My Husband had the Ahi Tuna. Amazing! I came here last night for dinner with a group from work celebrating a coworkers birthday. The drive down to the shores is very nice, passing through a town that reminds me of New England right on the water. The views from the front of the restaurant are great, unfortunately the inside does not live up to the view. First, we were told by the hostess which table to sit at and not shown to the table just "Your party is at table 19 last table on the left" Next the waitress wasn't the best or had the best attitude, it left a sour taste in a few of our mouths. It seemed like she was flustered and wanted us in and out. The bread brought out by our server was cold and the butter packets were already sitting on the table. The food sounds good, but lacked in overall seasoning. read more

We went there to meet some friends for dinner. We have eaten there before and I always had the specials and we were never disappointed with that choice. However I was looking for something different tonight so I ordered the lamb. It was perfectly cooked medium rare, and the chef suggested the berry sauce that he normally serves with the duck. It was a great compliment. I never even touched the mint jelly. My wife had the pork loin chops, and it was also cooked a perfect medium. Just a hint of pink in the middle, and the seasoning was on point. Our friends both had the fried chicken. There were 4 large pieces (a whole chicken) on their plate and they never had a chance to order more. I stole a piece from my friend and was almost...ALMOST wishing I had ordered the chicken. It was crispy on the on the outside and moist and tender on the inside, and that was the white meat. Laurie our waitress was very attentive and we never had to look for a refill or anything else. Matt the bartender mixed a great drink and was very friendly. Josh (the chef) did a great job on the food, you can really tell that he really loves to cook good food for his customers. Over all the service was great and the food was even better. We are looking forward to our next visit. read more

This is a nice place for a good meal on Fox Lake. We have not stopped in in years, but wanted to find a nice sit-down place for dinner on the lake. The menu offers a lot of selection and while the prices are a bit high they do a nice job and service was very good. My husband had the butterfly shrimp that come with flat fries and thought it was very well done. I had the Canadian walleye and the portion was large. Fish was good (but maybe not great), and cooked perfectly. The wild rice was more long grain rice than wild rice, and it was a bit gummy but the flavor was good. Next time I would go with the soup rather than salad - that was a bit lacking. Drinks were a nice addition. We will definitely return. read more

Sitting down there was a nice view of the lake and of the out buildings. It feels like a small fishing/boat community. My Dad enjoyed his Prime Rib and had no complaints. Tender and well seasoned. My Chicken Mushroom Marsala tasted rustic and homemade. I could taste the wine in the sauce and the chicken was well seasoned. Our server was very kind and attentive. The service was terrible. I don't know if the waitress is on drugs, suffers from mental deficiencies or is just that absent minded. It was almost unimaginable. The service from the bar wasn't much better. We didn't get out drinks until after our salads and that was the result of my mother getting up herself and asking if our drink order had been put in. 10 minutes after she asked the bartender we got our drinks and we had to ask for my father's Pepsi for the third time and my mother had to go get it from the bar. Our waitress was rude and lacked the comprehension to correctly take our orders even after repeating ourselves and clarifying twice. Two of our four orders were wrong and my order the sesame chicken was old and reheated and the sauce had been burned or scorched or possibly reheated and the fried rice tasted so bad I chose not to eat it out of fear of getting sick. It was inedible. My father's ribs were soooo dry and stringy that he regretted his order as well. This is the third recent attempt in the last year. Three chances. We will not ever be going back again. read more

There are better places in the Fox Lake area if you want a great dining experience. Me & my family love Schaumberg steakhouse "excellent melt in your mouth steaks", Quittin' time for their buy 1 get 1 burgers & gotta love their fried cheese curds, Boathouse for their pizza & State Street Pizza for their pizza. DO NOT STAY IN CABIN 5. The water smells like sulfur/rotten eggs. I called and texted several times throughout the day and got no response. I finally got someone at the restaurant to answer only to be told to suck it up because the last guy didn't complain. She also admitted that they knew the water smelled bad but had done nothing about it. I have been staying in these cabins for 6 years and had wonderful experiences, but there is new management, and after this experience, I now don't know that I will go back. On another note, skip the restaurant too. We were told to take any table in the bar area, so our group of 4 took a nice one in front of the window so we could look out to the lake. The host then came over and told us we needed to move to the table in the back corner under the TV because if it got too busy it would be too hard to serve us at that table (no one else came in until we were leaving). We then waited forever for a waitress, and there was hardly anyone in the place. The fish fry is all you can eat, but you only get two pieces to start and it takes forever to get extra fish. The bread also didn't come with butter, and when it takes forever for your waitress to come back, it's pretty inconvenient. I think the fish fry cost $15, but you can go next door to the Boathouse where they have options as to how many pieces of fish you get (all of which are under $10 and looked fantastic) and the atmosphere and service are 100% better. We definitely regretted wasting our time and money at the Shores. read more

Terrible service and average food. For a semi expensive steak house, the service was rude and slow, they brought out 5 of the 6 entrees in reasonable time but my brothers steak came out with the rest of our desserts without any explanation. When we asked she said "it came out when it was ready". There were also little service things like forgetting to bring enough wine glasses and not filling water glasses. There are plenty of other restaurants in this area I would recommend staying away from this one. read more

Just moved to the area, what a wonderful staff they have! I have been twice in four days, and we have loved every meal. The alfredo was good, and just average but on the second time back we had the ahi tuna, the burger, and some apps and they were all wonderful! I would definitely recommend, we love it! read more

Very disappointing seeing as it was our 4 year anniversary. I left with a crying woman and went to the reliable Boathouse. I would not recommend the shores. This was an amazing meal! It rivaled any meal we've ever had and that includes Madison or Cincinnati. And the view can't be beat! Wonderful and friendly staff. Good old fashions, crazy half of a duck that was excellent (stuffing that came with was the best I've ever had) and perfectly prepared ribeye with mounds onion straws as promised. Hate to bash a local business, but, a recent dinner was so awful that I felt the need to share. We were a party of three and all three dinners were horrible. My husband's New York Strip was maybe 1/4 inch thick, cooked medium well (he had ordered medium) and full of fat and gristle. Definitely not a strip! Maybe a really lousy rib-eye. I ordered the tenderloin medallions with a mushroom sauce. The medallions were scraps of something and cooked beyond recognition. The mushroom sauce tasted like Lipton's onion soup mix that had been reduced to a thick, gloppy, salty mess. My daughter's filet looked and tasted like a charcoal briquet on the outside and cold, rare middle. We all ordered the hash browns which had a mushy consistency and were inedible. There were two other tables that that complained about their food while we were there and a third table that looked highly dissatisfied too. Too bad-it's a nice place and last year we enjoyed several dinners there. Definitely off the list. Terrible experience. read more
