If you need gasoline, chips, candy bars, convenience store merchandise then this is the place. There isn't much in Garfield, AR. This is about it. There is a Dollar General up by the post office but of course they don't sell gasoline. Staff is not friendly at Short Stop. They aren't mean but they appear to be grumpy and not happy to be at work. Not a job for someone who doesn't enjoy dealing with the public. The place didn't appear clean. Especially the snack bar area. Many of the items on the menu weren't available. Their soft serve ice cream which appears to be their signature item was good but the first day I went in, the machine was not available for another 20 minutes. I did go back another day, it's the only gig in town, and was able to get some of their soft serve. It was good. No complaints. But the overall vibe of this business is not uplifting. read more

Poor service, extremely dirty and nasty food service area. They are famous for their giant ice cream cones - but I couldn't get past how dirty the place was. I needed diesel fuel and those pumps don't allow pay-at-the-pump so I had to go inside to pay before pumping the fuel. Stopped so the kid could use the bathroom; when the wife came out saying "they have ginormous cones!" I got a "small" chocolate and the wife a small twist. The small is like an extra large! Pretty reasonable on the price too; under $5 a piece. I didn't try anything else, but I think their "nitch" is worth 4 starts definitely original. The ice cream it's self is nothing amazing. Have you ever wanted to max out your daily caloric intake in one sitting? Look no further than this little restaurant well-known for their HUMONGOUS SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM!! Our annual trip to Beaver Lake is never complete unless I have a soft-serve every night I'm there. The little restaurant located inside a gas station convenience store is a 15 minute drive from the house, perfect time for digestion of dinner for dessert. Be forewarned that their "baby" size means "the size of a baby" and will require you to get a cup to flip it into! Overall, the prices are cheap for the amount they give you. We're convinced they don't have a set amount of swirls for each size and just push down on the machine until it's out of control, but I like it! read more

We came here on our way home from the Pea Ridge National Military Park on Memorial Day. This place has always been on my list, so we finally tried it since we were out this direction. I had seen plenty of friends pictures of their ridiculously tall soft served ice creams and I just needed to experience that haha. It is located inside of a gas station. There is parking around the gas station, but on busy days it can be hard to find parking. Luckily we found parking! It was busy when we got inside and there was a line. The line moved pretty quickly. They have a menu, besides ice cream, and most of it looked like southern food, burgers, and lots of fried food haha! We just came for the ice cream. The woman who helped us didn't give us much customer service, we were curious about the sizes and she seemed a little bit reluctant to help us out with that. Anyways, we ordered the smallest size aka "pee wee" for each of us. The "pee wee" was not pee wee at all, it was a normal large size, as you can see from my picture. Known for having the biggest soft serve you'll ever see in life (maybe they've got bigger somewhere else, but it's the biggest I've seen). The staff that gets the soft serve for you won't tell you exactly how big the sizes are, so be careful what you wish for. They even hide the cone while serving so you won't know what hit you. A small could easily be the size of 3 "normal" ice cream cones and you'll jump for joy for the amount that you pay for it. read more

Customers can see everything and how much attention the kitchen area needs. It needs a DEEP CLEAN. No menu posted, got to the counter and asked if food was still available or if it was just ice cream. The lady seemed upset we would even ask. We asked what was on the menu, and her response was "what we've always had. Burgers and stuff." I was not impressed by this place after reading the raving reviews of the place. We stopped by trying to get some gas and use the rest area and noticed this place was a high traffic area. Getting in and out of the parking lot was kind of a mess. Then there were a handful people in and out getting food and snacks. I thought the place could have been better organized because on one side of the building it was kind of an un-expected mess while the other side hid a small dining area. They could definitely be 5 stars but here lately I have noticed they are kind of pricy for a gas station meal. Appreciate this place for what it is, a great gas station with a better than a deli menu. You can't miss out on the fried pies, oh my. Some of the best pastry dough and filling. Our bunch got the cocnut, cherry, blueberry and apple. They are all delicious! We ordered an average American breakfast. Eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and sausage and ham. It was standard and satisfying. Headed out to play in the lake they also have everything you've forgotten. I almost hate to leave this review. We come through Garfield about once a month and have always enjoyed stopping for a big ice cream cone on our way through. However the last 2 times we have stopped it has been horrible service. Both visits the cashier has left the register and never came back! We wait and wait for her to come back until we finally just left. We always stop here for ice cream they Are good and HUGE. I always get the peewee but my son likes the small. The large is like buying 1/2 gal of ice cream (I'm exaggerating but it's a ton of ice cream). The food is also good. I like the taco salad and my kids love the burgers. They have a great menu with chicken, corn dogs, burgers, pizza and lots of dessert things too. Wish I could give this place zero stars. Our family has frequented the Shortstop grill for many years. After a recent change in ownership, we have seen a terrible decline in service and management. We stopped for breakfast after church this morning. Our order included two omelets and a sandwich, which took a full 60 minutes to receive. We had to ask for silverware, some of our food was not brought out, and we had to ask twice for the butter and jelly tray. When a member of our party went to inquire about our food after waiting 45 minutes, she was told she was "not acting like she came from church". Other members of our church waited in line for 20 minutes to order. We can understand a slow down as they train new people, but they were told they could not order breakfast after waiting in line for that long. New owners are definitely running this once awesome spot into the ground. Very disappointing. We will not be back. read more
