Stopped here for ice cream the other day! I love the location of this JP licks, it's the perfect spot to hit after an esplanade sunset. There was plenty of seating inside and we had no trouble finding an open spot to sit down and enjoy our ice cream. There also wasn't a line which was really nice! My boyfriend got the mint chip in a waffle cone, and I got the salted caramel cookies n creme in a cup with sprinkles on it. While I do usually prefer my ice cream order to my boyfriends....i do have to admit that I liked his more. Don't skip the waffle cone like I did. Definitely a great stop to add to your day in boston! The flavors are always great, and there's seasonal flavors which rotate that are always fun to try. read more

While visiting Boston, we went on a late night hunt for dessert and ended up at JP Licks purely because the name made us laugh. Turns out, it absolutely lived up to the hype. I went with two scoops, black raspberry and brownie chocolate, and the brownie was killer. Rich, chocolatey, and totally worth standing outside in 30 degree weather to eat it. I devoured it without hesitation. There were so many great flavor options, and my friends all found something they loved too. It felt like one of those classic, must-stop dessert spots. Just had a really odd experience at this location. I ordered a small cup of a special flavor (sticky toffee pudding). The server asked if I wanted any toppings. I said, "Yes please, I'd like M&Ms." The server, and another person working behind the counter, both told me that they just ran out of M&Ms. They didn't have any more. This was weird to me. As I was walking to the the shop, I passed a person who had a small cup of ice cream with both m&m's and oreo topping. Okay, I thought. That's weird but so be it. Then, I scootch over to look at the rest of the toppings and what do I see? M&Ms. I point out the M&M's to the employee and ask, "hey, aren't those M&M's?" They mumbled something back that I didn't exactly catch. They either said "those are closed" or "those are skittles" or "it's not those". "those are closed" makes no sense because they asked if I wanted toppings and it was 2 and a half hours before they closed. "those are skittles" makes no sense because they don't carry skittles as a topping... The whole experience was perplexing to me. Anyways, JP Licks is pretty overrated and too expensive. $6.5+ for the smallest size is not worth it. They have some decent flavors (cookies n' cake batter) though and the ice cream is usually pretty well executed and not icy. still, not really a place i'd recommend and won't be going back for a while after this freak incident. I've had a positive experience at a different JP Licks store before, and since my friend and I were nearby, we decided to pop in for a quick treat on a warm summer day. There was a sign for a raspberry mango sundae ($9.50) with vanilla icecream that sounded delicious and not realizing the price, I decided to try it. The vanilla was so rich, and I loved all the flavors together, but for a single scoop to be almost $10, I would try something else. My friend got the butterfly tea refresher ($6) which was aesthetic, indeed refreshing, and very sweet. Overall we were satisfied with getting our sugar fix, but I'm going for their regular scoops rather than a sundae in the future. read more

Decided to go to JP Licks today to grab some smoothies. I like that their smoothies are yogurt based, very tasty. I got one raspberry & one strawberry smoothie. Both were delicious and loved how they made them today. Inside has plenty of seating and also a couple benches outside, if you prefer to sit outside ! I have a super power... eating ice cream extremely slowly. I never wanted this experience to end. Mr. K and I talked about J.P. Licks all day and made dinner plans to leave room for dessert every night. The flavor options were just divine. We tasted a couple different flavors, but each found our perfect flavor and stuck to it: peanut butter cookie dough chip and salted caramel cookies n' cream. First time here and I love how many choices of ice flavors there were and there were a lot of creative ones that I've never heard of so I decided to give them a try. Just a heads up they only allow two samples per customer so choose wisely. I had the fresh peach, rum raisin, and coffee cookies n cream. JP Licks consistently outdoes the local ice cream shops that get better reviews and hype. It's time for people to give Licks the respect it deserves. Whether you are going to pick up a custom ice cream cake, a cone/cup/sundae, or a few pints to take home I've found that Licks consistently delivers a better experience and product than the "other" small-batch, local ice cream shops. That's not to say the others are bad, per-se but I don't think they warrant all the hype and attention when there are places like Licks that offer greater consistency and value. Over the past 2 years, I've been to various Licks throughout Boston over a dozen times. This includes the custom birthday cake I got my wife, a number of cones and cups, and my personal favorite - the ice cream+cookie sandwich. I've had flavors from other shops where my response was "that's interesting... not sure I like it though" where Licks has never given me that kind of experience. The abundance of options that you have to choose from as well as just executing each flavor in a way that isn't too over the top or underwhelming just always hits home when I order something from here. The cake was honestly one of the best cakes I've ever had as well, mimicking the original DQ ice cream cake but replacing simple vanilla and chocolate soft-serve with whatever combination you want. Today was HOT so we knew we would have to stop by for some ice cream! Heard this was a local favorite so decided to drop by. They have a good range of flavors, with a couple of fun takes on familiar favorites - for example, Chocolate Chip Coffee. We tried the double scoop with Fresh Peach and Rum Raisin. The portion size was way bigger than expected! The flavor of the peach was good, and I liked that it was creamy instead of a sorbet. However, the flavor was way too subtle and some were completely tasteless. The rum raisin was really yummy though! The workers were also super nice and accommodating with giving us water. This is just a random stop by on my way back from my break. I went to the post office to send some mail and I was craving for a little snack and this location is along the way. I decided to stop by and got me some ice cream to go. It wasn't as busy so I took the risk and chose quickly so I can get back to work and not be late. The employee was nice and accommodating. I'm a fan of J.P. Licks! Every time time I go to J.P. Licks I order the Peanut Butter Cookies and Cream because it's really good. Recently J.P. Licks added flavors Ube and Pandan. Ube does taste very ube/taro like, and there are little bits of ube that have the same texture as coconut. I'm excited to try pandan, and I'd definitely come back here sometime. For this location specifically, it's located on Charles Street, which is really quaint. It's nice to walk along the street, ice cream in hand. They have a great selection of dairy free things, from pumpkin to cranberry orange sorbet and I forget what else (there were five).
