Wanted to go somewhere close to Duluth but far enough to get away from the crowds. Found this cute place which is about ten mins out of town. I liked the way it was decorated, seemed newly redone. I got the classic combo 1, my husband got the biscuits and gravy, and our son got the mini corn dogs. My meal was good but missing seasoning. My husband liked his meal. Our son's highchair had its own tray which I have not seen at a restaurant before which I really liked because then I could keep all of his food on his tray and not take up space on the table. Amazing down home old school comfort food! I had the bacon cheese burger with onion rings. Both were cooked to perfection and the portion were not extreme either. Both the servers were friendly, attentive and quick. If you are looking for faux modern, fake friendliness and rushing to get you gone so another customer can have a seat, this is not the place. read more

Great place for breakfast! It was busy and tables are close but it's not claustrophobic. My husband had the country fried ribeye steak n eggs. Huge plate of food but he managed. I had the chicken sandwich. Order your delicious garlic aioli on the side because if there isn't enough on the sandwich, they'll charge you extra and I like to dip my sweet potato fries in it. I really wanted to love this place. In fact, I was hoping it was gonna be a regular stop when we're traveling through. I ordered the huevos rancheros and my husband ordered the country fried steak. I'll start with the good. Ample portions. Hashbrowns are crisp to perfection and the sourdough toast was great. However, both of our eggs were over cooked as was the country fried steak. My husband never leaves anything on his plate, but it was so hard to cut, so he gave up. His observation was they cooked it on too high heat. The huevos rancheros were meh. All the right ingredients but for some reason, just didn't do it for me. I asked for extra salsa, however, which added a great kick. Fantastic salsa. The place is popular. Visiting Duluth was akin to an experiment in how much Covid risk I was willingly able to accept. Arriving at The Social House, my friend announced that she'd like to lunch indoors, despite there being outdoor picnic tables to dine at. Indoors, the place was a busy hive of filled tables and no windows that open to the outside. I swallowed my fears, stayed masked, and studied the menu. The menu here has all of that breakfast stuff that sounds irresistible. Lunch stuff too, but I was drawn to the breakfast stuff. Anytime something is described as a "skillet" meal, with eggs draped atop home fried potatoes, I'm usually in. Here was no exception; at least I had something to look forward to when I unveiled my face. Service from a staff of 20-somethings was really nice, friendly, and welcoming. The fitting mantra of the place is "never pretentious, always satisfying" and it's the truth. When my friend's Gyro-draped Greek Salad ($14) arrived I said "no way are you going to eat all of that" as she usually doesn't, and it was a nice-sized portion. But she did, so color me wrong. My "Garden Skillet" ($13) was the perfect meal to satisfy breakfast cravings and the runny poached eggs I requested were delivered as specified, a sometimes difficult feat for restaurants to pull off. My sole complaint is that it arrived on a plate rather than a small iron skillet as these things usually are. Really? That's no sort of complaint at all. The Social House is nothing fancy, just tables in a square room and not spaced for social distancing. Momentarily, it'll be too cold in MN to eat at those outdoor tables (anywhere). Stopped in on a weekend trip to Duluth and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and friendly staff. Great menu selection - we chose the country fried steak, corned beef hash, and BBQ brisket Benedict - it is on a croissant-style English muffin which was unique and tasty! We had breakfast. My #2 Combo was very good, eggs hash browns and bacon cooked perfectly. The bacon was very salty. But not overly smoked. My husband tried the avocado toast. It was not to his liking at all, but he decided he just doesn't like avocado on toast, not that this avocado toast was poorly made. The main problem with The Social House was the cleanliness, or rather lack there of. There was food, grease, and ripped up paper products all over the floor and dried food reside smeared on the table. I was scraping dried food off my area when the waitress came to bring us water, and she gave me an annoyed look, as if I was making a big deal out of nothing. She did not offer to get a wet rag and rewash the table. The floor around our table looked like a two year old had a tantrum; smashed French fries everywhere. I understand small children can be messy, but someone should have cleaned the area before anyone else was seated there. As we exited the restaurant, I paid attention to the floor and ours was not the only area in this condition. DISCLAIMER: I posted this on the wrong Social House!!!!!! The staff were so nice, it was packed and our wait was so short. The caramel rolls are delicious, so much so it may be the new stop on the way back from the cities. Very fun menu, and the choice to turn an omelette into a scramble was top tier. read more

Got waited on fairly quickly, but food took quite a bit of time. It was cold when it got to the table. My son's country fried steak had strings of Saran Wrap in it. The brisket was tough, the hollandaise bland, had to saw through the brisket and muffin. Hash browns were barely brown. Biscuits and gravy were cold and no flavor. First time to try The Social House. I ordered the breakfast burrito and was very specific that I could not eat green peppers and asked if they could make sure they would not be on the burrito. Upon arrival, I cut the end off the burrito for a first bite and saw three large pieces of green pepper. Told the server I would not be able to eat it due to my restrictions. She apologized and I ordered another item. I also noticed the burrito was about 75% sautéed onions. I then ordered the Steak and eggs prepared rare. The steak was cooked to perfection, the hash browns outstanding and the pancake delicious. For me, the chance of getting something I specifically asked not to have is paramount. I love what they did with a space that felt like it was an office in one of its past lives. It feels a bit small but with a lot to offer. A well rounded menu and great coffee.
