Solvang Bakery is THE BEST BAKERY EVER!!! Eleven years ago, my husband and I went to a cake tasting and at the time we were a little "over caked". Wedding planning is stressful. Solvang Bakery brought out the most delicious cake samples that we devoured even though we were full. We ordered our cake and could not believe how amazing their prices were. They delivered our 3 level cake (all different flavors YAY) and it was beyond PERFECT! We had nothing left over (because everyone ravaged it) so the following year they made a replica of the top layer (that my cousin surprised us with). This is one of the biggest and tastiest Danish pastries and sweets shop in Solvang! They have 19 different flavors of Danishes, 8 types of pastries, 9 types of cakes, 3 kinds of cream pastries, and 11 types of fancy tarts. Only 4 types of sandwiches and 6 types of soup. That is literally their whole menu! =P They do sell cookies in a bucket and other pre-packaged sweets too. I tried the Tuna Salad with Harvati cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles served on their Squaw rolls. It was really good. The Squaw bread is kinda sweet but it's really good when used for a sandwich. My boyfriend had the Roast Beef with the same thing and also on the Squaw bread -- super yummy too! oOoh We also tried their popular Crispy Cinnamon Roll....very interesting. Ooohhhh the Danish waffles are pure heaven. My mouth just waters at the thought of these amazing pastries. It was so hot outside that roasted turkeys were flying by, and I went into the bakery to get some iced tea. I swear I was just going to get some iced tea, but those pastries were calling my name! Lemon Bar was suuuuper sweet but had a good texture. I had a quarter of the bar but it was so overwhelming I had to stop. I was so thirsty! My favorite was the Almond Butter Ring! Its so moist and just the right amount of sweet. I actually want to stop by Solvang just to buy another one which is why I gave this place a 4 star instead of 3 stars. We slipped in the back door here on Christmas Eve literally 5 minutes before they closed and it made my day!!!! Every other Bakery we missed out on because of the holiday. We got a couple brownies, cookies in a bucket of 5 dozen homemade danish cookies. But I really loved about everything we got was it nothing was overly sweet but the perfect amount of sweet. I was rushed to decide what to get because they were closing so I'm glad we grabbed the little bucket of cookies. It allowed us to have a souvenir to take home and there were different kinds of cookies in the bucket!!! Bite-size cookies so they go perfect with hot cocoa, tea or milk. We noticed on our way out of Solvang that the local specialty market carries items from this Bakery in their store another indication of how good their stuff is! These guys are right in the center of town and they also have tons of knick knack items in the bakery that you can buy for the kitchen and home. Next time I'm back I have to get a box of like 12 different things and taste more goodies. Of all the bakeries I went to on my trip this one had the best gluten free cookies! There was a cookie with chocolate ganache on top that melts in your mouth. The long almond marzipan cookie was thick and tall unlike the other stores. The chocolate dipped horn cookie was tall as well. The staff was nice and everything was fresh and delicious. I'd come back for sure to try the marzipan treats. read more

Boy, am I a fan of Solvang Bakery! My hubby and I stumbled on this cute little bakery during our visit to Solvang over Labor Day weekend. I'm a fan of anything sweet (as is my husband) so we seem to have popped into every bakery on the strip to see what they had to offer. We totally got sucked into this one. We had a friend house and cat sit while we were away so we were on the look out for something that we could bring home to her as a thank you gift. The assorted danish cookie platter seemed to be the perfect item. All the cookies were placed in a platter and wrapped beautifully with a bow. Each were $19. We picked up one for her and a smaller sampler bag for us which I think was 8 or $9. Upon check out, we caved in to trying the two samples on the counter; Kringle and what they called the Seven Sisters. The Kringle very much resembled a bear claw. It was flaky, nice and light and was full of flavor. Bear Claws are one of my favorite breakfast pastries so I was sold. The second was the Seven Sisters which was (OMG) my favorite. The Seven Sisters from what I was told is a very popular item amongst locals and I can see why. You can choose to purchase a complete ring which contained 7 of them or just a single one. My husband and I both wanted one for ourselves so we got 2. The custard filing was a perfect addition to the danish and the icing on top made it even more savory. I secretly wanted to purchase the entire ring but we resisted. When we returned home several days later, we broke into our small danish cookie treats and we were blown away with how tasty these little morsels were. They are bite size so they were perfect to have with coffee in the afternoon or after dinner. Again...we wished we got the larger platter we bought for our friend who house sat for us. darn! The associates were very friendly and were personable. They made sure that everyone was able to grab samples of what they had on the counter--and for good reason. Each of those samples were yummy and totally sucked you in. At least, it did for us. If we're ever in Solvang again, we'll definitely make it a point to stop in here and select a few more treats. P.S. When we returned home, we told a neighbor about them and she said she occasionally orders things online from them.
