My family and I briefly checked out Danish Mill Bakery just to see what they offered in comparison to the other bakeries in town. Upon entering, we realized how hot it was inside - like uncomfortably hot to the point where I got overwhelmed and just needed to get out of the shop. Before I did, I bought 2 packs of their Danish Haribo gummies that I had never seen or heard of before - we brought them back for a friend of ours who loves Haribo! I also noticed their massive glass counter display of Danish pastries - they looked amazing! We didn't buy anything from them since I was in a hurry to get outside, but man...did they look tasty! I did notice that they had a nice seating area in the back to enjoy your items - that is, if you can stand the heat. Staff at the counter and register were super friendly! I would definitely come back next time I am in Solvang and brave the warmth to try their pastries! Check them out! read more

As others have said as well, we bought pastries here, which the lady boxed without asking us and then when we tried to sit we were asked to leave as our order was "to go." We didn't ask for it to go. No signage was posted and others were sitting. Seemed like staff wanted to minimize having to clean up the tables. Not cool, won't be back here and won't recommend to friends or family. I tried to be reasonable since some of the things I was eyeing does not travel well on the 3+ hour drive we have going home, so I settled on a bear claw ($4.95), Kringle slice ($4.50), and almond mazarin ($4.95). What drew me to this bakery was the cute display in front where there are moving dolls making bread. Very unique display. Ordering took a while and was confusing. You order at the counter but if you choose dine in, you can sit down and then pay at the end. If you choose take out then you pay at the counter. None of this was clear when ordering though. I initially said take out but then changed it to dine in and the server was definitely annoyed. We got 3 double cappuccinos, a pistachio croissant, and marzipan danish (because we had to try a Dutch danish). Because I had switched from take out to dine in it took forever to get our food even though it was ready when I had ordered. The coffees were good. I remember years ago, this was one of the bustling places, but now it's pretty much a take out place. There are a few tables in the back, but you have to let the person know before hand if you are dining in. I walked in and it was warm with no AC running at all. I feel so bad for the staff here as I'm pretty sure management told them not to turn on the AC to save money. It's kind of sad coming in to this place now. Excellent selection of tasty treats. The cinnamon crisp is a sublime mix of a churro and a croissant. We visited at the low tourist season so service was a breeze. More of an urban atmosphere than kitchy. They had some cute animatronics out front which is very popular among the bakeries here. read more

Beware, once you enter, it nearly impossible to leave without wanting to just buy and try everything from the bakery. This Sunday morning we came in just before 10am and the line was already pretty stacked. No worries though, the crew at Danish Mill had it moving pretty quickly. The eclair cream was oddly tangy and when asked, they said it was raspberry flavored...however there was not any raspberry color and everyone who tried it had stomach issues later. Danish Mill Bakery has been in Solvang for over 60 years. You can come here for many different pastries and treats. My neighbor brought me a bucket of cookies here and every time I go to Solvang I have to come and pick up a bucket of their butter cookies. Their butter cookies are good and my co-workers even enjoy them. Each bucket comes with five dozen cookies. You can't go wrong with any of them. Danish Mill also sell other treats like Danishes, Danish cookies, cakes, truffles, macaroon, macarons, Kringle, homemade granola, Viking bread, and coffee. I can't vouch for everything else but I really like the butter cookies. Overall, if you're looking to bring back a treat from Solvang come for their bucket of butter cookies. read more

And the cookie visually was really bumpy and had a peak on it, confirming it was overbeat and the flour was probably not sifted. Definitely steer clear of the French macarons. Unfortunately there was a couple of bakeries we came across that was closed on Tuesdays but we did check out the Danish Mill Bakery who probably had the best selection of pastries and cookies we visited today. There are a handful of bakeries in Solvang and at the end of the day it all depends on preferences. I like different things from the different bakeries. They have a great selection of cookies, pastries, and cakes. You can eat it onsite with some coffee or take a box to go. They also sell buckets of butter cookies (which is also available by mail).
