The staff was friendly and welcoming, happy to answer questions and help us decide on flavors. We ended up ordering the Sea Salt Cream & Cookies on a cone, and it was delicious. The only thing that I would recommend is having napkins readily available. The ice cream itself was average in my opinion as it was not as creamy as I wanted. They called from the register anyone ready to order while we had been waiting about 20 mins in line and were next standing in front of the freezers, so then others rushed to cut. I don't understand that? Why do they have a line and have us wait and then all of a sudden change the process? Especially when we waited patiently? The guy just ignored us when I asked if my daughter could sample the birthday flavor since she wanted green tea but had none. Be prepared to wait 30+ mins in line before u get to the ordering place. Its fancily located next to the windmill and where they sell the trolley tickets do my advice would be to have one person wait in line and split the party for trolley tickets and photos with windmill to use your time wisely. The staff is super friendly and ice creams look so good with the freshly prepared waffle cones :) expensive but totally worth it :) They do have outside seating in the back but it's always full so just keep walking and eating. Ice cream is necessary even on a cold windy day! When you walk in, you are hit with the smell of waffle cones and sweetness. There were about 4 parties in front of me when I went around 3:30pm. No samples due to being out of tasting spoons. I committed to getting chocolate covered strawberries flavor which seemed to be vanilla base with chocolate chips and strawberries mixed in. A good balance of 3 flavors. Was it the creamiest ice cream I've ever had? No. But it's ice cream and there was nothing wrong with it either! The ordering system was different than any ice cream store I have been to before. You order at the cashier and they give you a number. They will call it out and you pick it up on the side when it's ready. They recently moved their shop to in the actual windmill. They say its blue, but its a very faded blue. Looks a lot cooler though, cuz its in an actual windmill!! They have several ice cream options. As well as pastries (which I didnt see any), coffees and other snacks. You can also evidently buy trolley tickets here as well. I got their banana salted caramel as well as their lemon marion berry. The one person working the counter was super nice. Friendly. Seems to be an ebb and flow with this place. When we got there around group of 8 was just leaving. And as we got our order another group of 6 walked in. So I can only imagine how busy it gets here. Some of the ice creams were almost empty. There's a little sitting area outsidside the front, with more tables on the back side. The banana salted caramel was really good. Salty, sweet, very banana-y. It was a good mix. The cashier and work was very nice and the shop looked cute inside. I got a double scoop with Santa Barbara Strawberry and Pistachio. Both flavors were amazing. They actually used real strawberries and not some weird syrupy mix. Pistachio was creamy, nutty, and didn't have that fake green color. All the real ingredients. The portions were generous too. This place is so cute. There are so many ice cream flavors it's hard to choose. It was a hot day when we went a couple weeks ago so there was a line. But it was worth the wait. I loved the corner windmill design from the outside. I I side has that Danish/Solvang vibe and it feels like it's been there 40 years. When I got close enough to see the ice cream counter and realized it is McConnell's ice cream they serve, I was even happier. I miss going to McConnell's in LA since we moved away, so it was a reminder of home. McConnell's flavors are all delicious. I think between us we tried the Banana Caramel Swirl, one that was like old-school chocolate chip but with fresh local strawberries added, the pistachio, and something whiskey/caramel-y. You really can't go wrong. Portions seemed fair for the price. The staff were helpful and kind even though it was super busy when we went. Stopped on our way to Santa Barbara with family. I got the milk and cookies ice cream. It was very good. However my husband's milkshake was not what he expected. It was very milky/liquidy. Normally milkshakes are thick but this was not. He went to ask about how they make it and they said that's how they normally make it. He's not one for complaining to staff so he left it at that.
