Wandering, looking for breakfast. As we walked toward what we thought we were going to have for breakfast, we passed the Sour Pickle. The smell of breakfast wafting from the restaurant grabbed my sniffer and led us to the front of the store to look at the menu. A Quick Look and we decided to give the pickle a go. Me and the boss decided on the Mexican omelet and a coffee. What a meal. Toast and crisp, delicious hash browns shared the plate with the main attraction, an enormous three egg omelet stuffed with peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and onions topped with cheese and salsa sauce. The boss had me finish her omelet but by God I finished all mine too.... Thankfully we had a walk back to the hotel to work some of that big breakfast off. Prices are in line with every other place here in Victoria, however this is a local, husband and wife team that make awesome food and seem genuinely happy to be serving their brand of home cooking to the people. I wouldn't hesitate to drop in again when we return and try another menu item, wish we had found you sooner! read more

My bf and I enjoyed our time at the Sour Pickle! A neat family business; just two folks were working, one person in front of the house and one person cooking. We stumbled upon this place as it (surprisingly) didn't have a wait for a Sunday brunch. We got the breakfast baker and breakfast quesadilla. Both were served hot and tasty. No surprises from what was on the menu, so it was a good traditional breakfast. It'll be on our radar again for our next visit to Victoria. read more

We had veggie omelettes and coffee. Besides the generous portions, the veggies were so plentiful, varied and tastylicious! Who puts red onions mushrooms red yell and green peppers, spinach, green onions in the average dinner these days, where everything is blanded down for whatever reasons.... Phenomenal. Ingredients were fresh and the team working was so sweet and helpful. Best chicken salad I've ever had, I liked that the bread wasn't toasted. The potato salad was also outstanding. Ask for a sour pickle on the side (it's huge, you can split), it was sourly delicious! read more

This is a fun place to go for a good breakfast. It's small and casual with decorations with a pickle theme. The menu includes various breakfast items and sandwiches. There are some omelettes, breakfast sandwich, egg enchiladas (really a quesadilla), French toast and waffles. There are several choices in sandwiches that also include wraps and burgers. I had the bacon and cheese omelet that comes with toast and potatoes. It was very good and had a lot of bacon. The others had the egg enchiladas, french toast and eggs benedict-all enjoyed what they had. Service was good. They also have muffins which are very good also. It is worth a repeat visit. read more

They survived through COVID - so that's a success. In a world full of chains and "sameness" this little spot's homemade approach to their classic menu is a pleasant relief. Always consistent, fresh, plentiful and delicious! I'm lucky enough to work in the area and eat here regularly. But if you want old favourites served hot and fresh while you're visiting, I couldn't recommend this higher. read more

We have breakfast at the Sour Pickle at least once every time we go to Victoria. Mostly, we go because they have excellent omlettes and fried potatoes. But partially, we go because a friend of mine just totally loves the Christmas Pickle (whatever that is....anyone heard of this wacky tradition?). This place makes a mean omelette as well as a super delicious potato sandwich thingy to which I had an egg added. I'm not sure of the name but it was kind of like a fat quesadilla. The potatoes in it were oh so good and there was also bacon in it. It will be top on the list of things to have when next we're in Victoria. read more

This place has the best holendaise sauce a person could ever ask for. My wife first told me about this place, from when she went 5 years ago, I decided to stop in and check it out and WOW!! Cute little place one of those that if your walking by you just might miss it. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered breakfast. We had the Mexican omelet and the veggie omelet. Both were pretty dang tasty. The veggie omelet has this incredible pesto that is to die for and paired very well with the feta. Eating in this restaurant is just like eating at some small truck stop cafe by the road. They even serve you little packets of Kraft jams and peanut butter with my order of 2 egg with bacon or sausage breakfast. Those packets of jam and peanut butter is something I have not tasted for quite a while. Service is good although the waitress just seem to be a little too attentive. My partner ordered Reuben sandwich. She liked it but commented that the cheese is processed cheese. They serve breakfast all day hence I ordered the breakfast even though it was lunch time. Victoria wakes up fairly late, but the SOUR PICKLE, by Victoria standards, is an early riser, opening at 0730 hours. We went there the first time because it was close to the hotel, and we didn't want to wait until 10 AM to have breakfast. What a surprise we got. A small place, with a "mom-and-pop" (husband and wife) staff, the service was superb. Did I mention the bottomless coffee cup? Our breakfast order was served hot, and the eggs were perfectly cooked according to our wishes. Would I return? You betcha!! Did I mention the bottomless coffee cup? We DID return. Not a good experience. I went at 2:50 on Friday afternoon and they say they close at 3:30 but a woman was washing the floor and insisted I walk around the perimeter of the dining room to get to the till - so I didn't walk on her floor. This was after snapping at me "Do you want something?" I foolishly ordered a burger and was told to come back in 10. So eating in was not an option. I did so and when I returned, the woman (very rudely) told me to wait outside and she would bring the burger to me. Keep in mind that this is during their hours of operation. How about washing your floors after hours or when you don't have customers? I guess they just don't need the business. The burger was soggy and tasted very strange. Not a typical burger taste. Found this place a little off the main Harbor area for a late Saturday lunch. My wife and I each ordered a burger and fries. The burger tasted, well, let's say 'weird' compared to a traditional burger. There was some spice worked into the meat that was off putting to both me and my wife - both fairly adventurous eaters. After perusing the many breakfast/lunch joints downtown we decided on the Pickle, and good god. This place cooks up some of the best breakfast my girlfriend and I honestly have ever had. I dont remember the name of my omelet, but it was wrapped in tortilla, covered in a couple cheeses and tasty pesto sauce and then baked. It was -amazing-. The hash browns were good as well. Try them with their table hot sauce. The lady running the counter and our table was very friendly and accommodating. Whether you're local and have passed this place by, or are visiting and looking for a good place to get breakfast/lunch (especially if you're vegetarian), then do yourself a favor and give this place a try. Just what we needed as an escape from the crowds in other parts of Victoria's waterfront and China Town. Menu was predictable sandwiches, soups, salads, omelettes. We had a tuna salad sandwich, green salad, split pea soup. Service was timely and low key. The restaurant is small enough that they don't take credit cards. If you are from the U.S., debit cards also don't work. They take USD, but give Canadian change in return. read more
