We got the catfish plates each with 2 large cornmeal battered filets. The fish was hot and the batter was lightly seasoned and tasted really good. I selected collards with my meal and wife got the mac n cheese. The greens were perfectly prepared, but the mac needed a pick me up scoring 3 of 5 stars -- would benefit from specialty cheeses vs what tasted like Velveeta? All of the portion sizes were really good. Next time we will split the meal. Couple of points: 1. I was surprised to see no beer on the menu, just liquor and wine. 2. I was really looking forward to trying kitchen kocktails Restaurant after a coworker highly recommended it. Unfortunately, my family's experience was nothing like what we expected. We arrived around 12:00 p.m., and although the restaurant was busy, that shouldn't excuse the poor service we received. After placing our order, we waited about 45 minutes for our food. When our entrées finally arrived, several of our side dishes were missing. We then had to wait another 15 minutes for the sides, leaving our proteins getting cold. To top it off, after all that waiting, my husband was informed they had run out of mashed potatoes. That should have been communicated before the order was placed not after we'd already waited nearly an hour. The service was disappointing from start to finish. I've honestly had quicker and more attentive service at a Chick-fil-A. I love supporting local soul food restaurants, but the experience simply didn't match the premium prices. The food was way overpriced, and while it wasn't terrible, it definitely wasn't good enough to justify the cost or the long wait. The only highlight of our visit was the DJ. He kept the atmosphere lively with great music, and that was the best part of the experience. Overall, Kitchen Kocktails did not live up to the hype. As soon as you walk in, you see beautiful red roses throughout the restaurant, making it a romantic/upscale atmosphere. The R&B music playing in the background really adds to the vibe. We were seated at one of the high-top tables in the bar area, but there was plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs, making it a great spot for both small and large parties. We started with the chargrilled oysters, and for only my second time trying them, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed them. They were flavorful and delicious! I also ordered a Lemon Drop martini, which was a bit sweeter than I prefer. It didn't taste like it had much alcohol, but if you enjoy sweeter cocktails, you may like it. My husband had the smoked old fashion and said it's the best he's had so far. We didn't do an appetizer. We jumped straight to entrees. I have since visited K&K a couple of times. A prior visit for dinner was a while ago, when the air was out in the summer heat. They served a drink that was watered down and not as it should have been served. The waitress gave me a hard time, but took it back. As always, the food was 5/5. I noticed the dress code was not adhered to. I decided not to return for a long time. I visited this month for brunch. The atmosphere was nice before the crowd started to pick up just before 1 pm. The catfish was 5/5 and did not disappoint. However, the sweet potatoes made me feel they were leftovers from the day before (too much dark juice from the sugar). Sweet potatoes are my love, but I have to give them a 3/5. I ordered a mimosa (see photo) that cost too much. Again, the dress code was not adhered to. Finally!! I've been considering this restaurant since they open here in Charlotte and it finally happened today! I made reservations for 6:15 and we arrived at 6:12 and was immediately seated. The restaurant was almost a full capacity which I was surprised about considering the tone of day. It's probably not a good sign when your server hasn't shown up after 12 minutes, and when you go back to the hostess stand, she says, "Let me go find her." Yeah... I already knew this probably wasn't going to end well. Come to find out, Kitchen & Cocktails has a very limited beverage menu. Everything we tried to order, they didn't have. Beer? Nope. Non-alcoholic margarita or mocktail? Nope. Their daiquiris are pre-mixed, so apparently customization is not a thing here. Basically, if you wanted something non-alcoholic or even just simple, good luck. Strong pre-made cocktails seemed to be the entire personality of the bar. Now let's talk food. The menu photos are BEAUTIFUL. Very inviting. Study them carefully because those pictures are apparently actual size and actual serving quantities. I ordered the red beans and rice with fried chicken. What arrived was one fried chicken wing. ONE. Not wings. Wing. Singular. The beans were spicy but decent enough. Then I tasted the rice. The rice wasn't cooked. At all. It felt like wet grains poured straight onto the plate. Completely ruined the meal. So now I have to explain why the rice is still sitting there untouched and rolling around the plate. And I'm pissed because I have these hard granular stuck in my teeth. Fresh rice eventually came out, and yes, that batch was cooked, but by then the moment was gone. Other people at the table ordered catfish, which was actually a beautiful large portion, BUT all the sides are à la carte and ridiculously overpriced. Mac and cheese and other sides starting around $12-$20? Come on now. There were also grilled pork chops at the table. Thin doesn't even describe them. We're talking paper-thin, quick-flash-on-the-grill pork chops that came back flavorless. The peach cobbler was okay. I mean... sugar is sugar. What really seals the deal is the automatic 20% gratuity added to every check, regardless of service quality. So whether your server disappears for 12 minutes or not, they're getting paid. So I tried this restaurant again. It's been a year. The food is still very good BUT the service was very disappointing by the manager of the restaurant ESPECIALLY. I asked the manager to address a family of a table that was seated directly above us on the second level where their child was playing with a tablet LOUDLY and the manager WOULD NOT ask the patrons to turn their child's device down low enough where we could hear each others conversation at OUR table. Mind you, it's almost 10pm. We avoided coming early where families and children would be dining. It was late in the evening. The music was being played throughout the restaurant and the child's device was louder than the music played in the restaurant and could be heard on the lower level where we sat. This manager Antwan was not willing to address it. He was afraid to say anything to the parents at the table. He told me it was biased of him to say something and for me to go speak with them if I wanted to. So I asked him did he think it was less important to address our concerns as a paying customer than a table with a child that could simply be turned down. We were there celebrating a birthday and we spent hundreds of dollars our meals/drinks. What a huge disappointment by this manager. If you hate your job that much that you don't care enough about satisfying customer's concerns, please seek work elsewhere. It was very disappointing to have a manager not care enough about paying customers to address concerns professionally. Then we met the family after we ate dinner as they were leaving the restaurant. I will start with the good, and get into the nitty gritty later on. The food was great. Everything came out fresh and was made correct to order for the most part. The portions are hearty and you know exactly what you're getting on the menu. The menu itself has so many options it could be overwhelming but generally items are renditions of the same items. However she was super busy which lead to oversights like long wait times, missing silverware and some missing items that were quickly corrected once we could get attention of staff. Now to operations and staff. The front desk and hostesses are were super rude and short. I made a reservation via Resy and confirmed. When I arrived the staff stated they don't always get the reservations and would try to get me a table. We waited 25 mins past our reservation time before being stated and the entire time the host staff would not even give a time estimation or the number of parties in front of us. The restaurant itself was packed to the brim and you could tell profit generation was a focus by how tightly the tables are pushed together. We were basically having dinner with the people beside us. Also with the restaurant being in the epicenter the parking situation is expensive ($30) and they do not validate for service. The music inside does a good job of distracting you from the seating mishaps, long wait times, and close proximity to others, so that is a plus. I'm honestly on the fence about my experience at Kitchen & Kocktails. I was really excited to try this place as I love supporting local businesses but I don't think I will be back. Let me explain... My husband and I stopped by on a Saturday evening without a reservation. We were seated immediately at a small table meant for two people. While that's fine, the tables themselves were TINY and seated very close to other tables. So close that if you got up you would hit the other table and you could hear their full conversation. Our waiter was very nice and explained the menu as well as any specials they were offering. We ordered a crab cake as an appetizer as well as a frozen margarita flight. For the actual entrees, I ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and my husband got the seafood platter. Our food was fantastic, super yummy and flavorful. The margarita flight was the perfect size to share between two people. My favorite was the peach and blueberry frozen margaritas personally. Just be aware that for the lobster mac and cheese, the lobster is just on top. It didn't really feel like you got a ton of lobster, but I guess because it's meant to be a side item. Not sure. Now to the parts where I wasn't a fan and will likely not return. On the menu, which is viewed by a QR code, you get up charged on every little thing, which I think is a bit ridiculous. Like just build it into the price if you're worried about costs. For an example if you wanted a pork chop, all of the sauces are an additional coat. The text is also written in all caps on the menu, aka shouting. While you're eating your expensive meal, they also have someone coming around asking if you want to take photos, which they then print out and ask if you want to purchase them for $25 a picture. The price of the food is also expensive, and regardless if you have a large party, there is a 20% gratuity added to your bill. Given what we ordered, our bill ended up being $180, which I don't think our waiter deserved an almost $40 tip. She was okay. I think for the price and overall experience, you're better off going down the road to STK Steakhouse or somewhere else that's fancy where the experience matches the price. And where you dont feel like you're getting ripped off. So while the food was amazing and delicious, I won't be back to K&K. 3.5 star rating read more

The ambiance is intentionally set and this particular week it was pretty romantic/swanky feeling with New Years Eve vibes. The service was professional and nice overall. Our server was attentive when our table either needed something or was missing something. The only unfortunate part of our service was when waiting to leave, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get the check, and were sitting next to the bar by the register lol. Now for the food. The menu was interesting; it had a feeling of being expansive, but if you want something fresh, green, or not fried, it is in fact very limited. The food itself was freshly prepared and was well cooked. However, everything on the menu seemed to be listed at double $$ of the regular market value. For example, a side of mashed potatoes was $13...I ended up ordering just a plain catfish fillet a la carte for $21. The catfish was exceptional - crispy exterior and a moist interior. It earned a spot in my Charlotte catfish top five. The margarita, while sweet, lacked the authentic taste. Note that everything is a la carte. My friend and I stopped by here for dinner after doing a little shopping. We made reservations to make sure we wouldn't have an issue getting in here. At the time of our reservation, we were seated. The tables are extremely close to each other. Like they are trying to maximize on the seating. There was an upstairs area as well but I didn't venture up there. There was so many people in there. Taking pictures with the rose covered walls were the highlight for some. The food was really good. Seasoned well. The Mac and cheese was just ok. But the fried catfish, the salmon grits, the collard green dip and the salmon bites were delicious. Oh, so were the black eyed peas. They use smoked turkey and not pork. That made me really happy! Delicious food. Absolutely loved shrimp and grits- smooth grits with those perfectly cooked shrimp in that luscious sauce. Kajun Kream pasta was creamy and velvety, great fry on this crab legs. The crab cake was also tasty. Minus one star is for mandatory 20% surcharge added to parties of any size and the service. read more

I've been to every kitchen kocktails in every major city. This one was by far the worst customer service and experience. If you're going to go, make sure you eat before you go, you'll be waiting a while for food. Waiting an hour for food with a not busy restaurant is insane. read more

First be sure to reserve or call ahead. This place gets busy and the Google and Apple Maps location is off a little and directs you either the wrong side of the block or in the middle of the block. It is on the corner of Trade and college. Upon arriving we were greeted promptly. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. However, we had to wait about 15 minutes before any further communication and seeing our waiter. Which, I will say almost made the wait worth it. He was fantastic. I believe his name was Dennis. He got our drink order and even made some solid recommendations with guiding me to a drink I'd come to enjoy a lot. He even came by shortly after our appetizer came out (which was incredible!) and noticed that we were missing the sauce that came with it. No way we would have noticed as it was our first time, and the egg rolls were so good already. But he promptly returned with the sauce and it truly elevated them even more. I forgot to get a picture of the sauce but it was similar to a sweet chili sauce. Next we were brought our meal options. And I honestly couldn't be more satisfied with our choices. The chicken was crispy and with the hot honey made it even better. The butter pecan waffles were dense and the topping was like a pie filling. The salon and grits were definitely top tier and a larger portion than I was expecting. Also the entire restaurant had a fun vibe and felt clean and tidy. There was a photographer going around asking random tables for photos. Which I guess was for their social media. Or maybe we went during some sort of event, but we were never asked thankfully lol. The only true misses here were not being attended to sooner, there is a 20% gratuity added on all checks(this is made clear on the menu and you can't miss it), and there is no print out of your bill to start. Given it was just two in my party it felt weird but I understand ya gotta take care of your servers so I had no issues with the gratuity. Especially since once our server arrived it was great. The receipt though You have to review it on their handheld. And somehow even though I typed in my email for a receipt, I never received it. All in all I can't wait to return. And will just be more attentive to the receipt issue. read more

The food? Excellent. The wait time? Absolutely ridiculous. We had reservations at 7:15, sat down at 7:25, and didn't see our food until 9:15. That's two whole hours of watching other tables--who came in after us, mind you--get their food before we did. Cute ambiance, good music, I'll give them that. But let's be real: vibes don't feed you. We kept asking our waitress what was going on, and all we got was the classic "let me check on it" brush-off. If you're thinking about coming here, don't you dare make any after-dinner plans--because guess what? You'll be canceling them. By the time the food finally came out, yes, it was good... but not "two-hour wait good." So yeah, come for the food and the cute vibes if you've got all night to waste. Otherwise? We arrived earlier than our reservation and found a line out the door. Once inside, we were promptly seated at a corner booth for four. Asia was our server. We were informed that most dishes are prepared with cayenne pepper. I had wanted the lamb chops, but Asia emphasized how heavily spiced they were, so I opted for the fish and grits instead. They were just okay--nothing remarkable. The Caesar side salad was drenched in dressing, so I recommend requesting it on the side. My cranberry mimosa was perfect (I requested they go light on the cranberry juice). Be aware that automatic gratuity is added to the check even for small parties (total of 4 in my group). While Asia was pleasant, the service was average, as was the food. When someone in our group mentioned the potatoes were too salty, Asia responded by praising the chef's seasoning choices. The location of the restaurant is easy to find with public parking right behind it making it somewhat convenient. Valet parking is offered near the front entrance , but isn't worth the $40 we spent AT ALL! The wait time to retrieve your vehicle is insane. The restaurant is smaller in size compared to other upscale places. They have an upstairs area from the looks of where I was sitting, but never saw anyone go up there. The aesthetic throughout the entire restaurant was beautiful! Upon being greeted by the host I was handed a freshly cut rose and a "Happy Birthday" card that was positioned on my table. As soon as we were seated at our table my first thought was "it surely is tight up in here"! It's like they're squeezing folks on top of one another to make a dollar frfr. When I go out on date nights or whatever I don't want to be sitting with strangers. You can't even hold your arm out without touching the next 1-2 people. It's sad! We had Ty as our waiter and he made sure we were taken care of. He recommended certain things that he genuinely liked from the menu. He was very helpful and diligent in his tasks at hand. Now, don't get me wrong, this place is a "selfie world" for most girls being that it's very pretty, but let's stay focus here! The food just doesn't live up to the hype! It's nothing to call home about! Yes, I may tell you a joke but I'll never tell you A LIE!!!! People hype places like this up so much because they focus on the decor aspect verses the taste of the food. I am a foodie and it just didn't do anything for me. The menu is overpriced and only two or three entrees come with sides. Everything else you have to order dishes separately. So, we started out with the shrimp devil eggs as an appetizer. Simply delicious I will say. I ordered a strawberry mango frozen patron drink and my man ordered an old fashion! It was brought out and presented to us and as the waiter goes to take his top off NO SMOKE EXITED! Everywhere we go it's always presented with a lil show lol. Not here! As for my meal, I ordered the lobster with a side of Mac n cheese! My lobster was overcooked and dry and the Mac n cheese wasn't tasteful at all just super creamy with parsley added. My man ordered the short ribs which came with two sides consisting of broccolini and mashed potatoes. It was season to perfection unlike my food. The short ribs tasted like a tender pot roast straight up. Trust me if you go get this lol. Soon as our main meals come to the table and we take one bite a photographer walks up out of nowhere asking to take pictures! She even suggested I get up and make my way towards the middle of the floor and I declined respectfully because I didn't want to have cold food. The audacity right? I came to this establishment during the first week they opened and ended up leaving because even with a reservation the wait times were over 2 hours! It's been a long time since I returned to give them a second chance and honestly this location just wasn't hitting when it came to the food.
