The Spa at L'Auberge is one of the amenities available and if you're a guest at the hotel, it's a must. After a vacation, I always need another vacation to decompress from jet lag and stress. A deep tissue massage is always a wonderful treatment. The spa facility is a detached cottage from the hotel but within a stroll through the gardens. The menu offers a variety of massage techniques. After an epic fail at the Lodge at Torrey Pines (they lost our massage reservations and the trail was closed due to a golf event), we thought our double 60th birthday celebration was going to be a bust. But, after a quick phone call to the Spa L'Auberge, our special day was rescued by a compassionate staff! While the only had one spa service available, they made space for my friend to use the pool, jacuzzi, and locker room. I received the most glorious facial (I would have signed up for the scalp massage alone!), and we were able to pamper ourselves until our dinner reservation across the street. Our valet made several trips to the car to fetch clothing, etc and made us feel like we were celebrities! Tracy, you outdid yourself!!! We'll be back! read more

I had a spa day with my friend at Spa L'Auberge and I couldn't have had a better time. I had the 50 minute "Soothing Seascape Massage" and it was pure bliss. Anh my massage therapist was so accommodating and focused on areas that I had more tension. After my massage I enjoyed a pineapple mimosa and layed out in the lounge. Hair brushes, styling irons, hairspray, deodorant, lotion, sunscreen, feminine products, face wash, face lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shavers, toothbrushes with toothpaste. Super impressed by all that they have to offer. 4. Steam room. Very nice, works great, plenty of space. 5. Private showers. 6. Hair mask station! 7. Nice relaxation lounge with waterfall and rock fire pit. 8. No preset mandatory tip. Huge plus in my opinion. I despise spas who require a set tip. CONS 1. Because the Spa is boutique, it is small and doesn't have everything. For example there's no hot tub or whirlpools or anything like that. So I've had two unbelievably amazing massages here. One was long long ago (circa 2002!) by Connie who gave me the best massage I've ever gotten in my life. She was that good. Unfortunately she left before I could stalk her at her new place, and I've always mourned the loss. Gotta say, this last Saturday, the 80 minute Therapeutic massage with Michelle was amazing... I rate it at one of the top 3 massages of my life. And I get massages regularly - at both fancy places and not so fancy joints. So I know what I'm talking about. Michelle started the massage by asking me what my perfect massage would be like, then proceeded to deliver. The scents that were offered were soothing and interesting - my favorite was Oolong (lime, tea and something delightful, available for purchase) The room was beautiful with Tiffany Teal accents, the massage bed was heated and the head cradle was at the proper adjustment - which hardly ever happens! Then the massage itself was beyond wonderful. Michelle put heat pads on my back without me even asking, and she checked in with me for pressure, but had already delivered just the right blend of firm and sweeping. Needless to say, I am coming back. My sister raved about her massage too. After the massage, we chilled out in the garden. Several chaise lounges around a fire pit outside and inside in the relaxation lobby- just nice to sip tea and chat pre/post therapy. The spa facilities were clearly recently renovated and were beautiful with spacious showers, but smaller overall than I'd prefer. There was only a steam room available, no jacuzzi, no dry heat, no mineral room. However, I forgive the lack of other amenities solely because my massage was superb. While the spa and relaxation room is very nice, my massage was below average and very expensive. It was not at all customized to my needs which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I felt like the therapist was just gojng through the motions as she massaged me. I have very obvious muscles knots from working out a lot, so it's not hard for massage therapists to feel them (I've had many comment on the knots in muscles). Very disappointed. Of the spas in San Diego, I'd have to say this one is lacking as a whole. While the hotel is beautiful and the layout is nice, this simply isn't a superb spa, and here's why: -I was signed up for an hour-long facial, and I received one that was roughly 40 minutes long. -There wasn't enough space to contain all the spa guests. This was my first time here and I was pleasantly surprised! It's very small but intimate and decorated very modern and has a nice little spa boutique which I spent way too much on my way out! On to the services I had the Seashell Antioxidant facial and at $ 200.00 for 80 min a little steep but very nice. This was part of a Spa package from the L'AubergeDel Mar that we stayed at and they gave me a $270.00 spa credit. The facial was very relaxing and and Nancy who was working on me adjusted it to my sensitive skin which I appreciated ! She was very professional and my only complaint was the music they were playing was very dark not tranquil and she changed it right away! I added a reflexology which again she adjusted to what I preferred not too hard just perfect. The spa has 2 different relaxation rooms both very soothing with drinks and fresh fruit available complimentary. They do have a steam room and private showers. Private lockers with all kinds of stuff for your hair and face. If I ever go back for a weekend would absolutely come to get some treatments done my skin was glowing when I left ! I had the most AMAZING deep tissue massage at Spa L'Auberge by Rachel on Saturday. I had SO much tension in my neck and I left feeling like a million bucks. I also have sciatica and she stretched my hips, which felt amazing! I wish that I lived in San Diego because I would be a regular! Their Spa amenities are also fabulous. I enjoyed sitting in their relaxing steam room while letting a Moroccan Oil Hair Mask soak in and make my hair silky smooth {..and it smells so great}! First, I must apologize to L'Auberge for my delay in writing this review! It's been months and months --- I think back in July '09 actually. I just now found the card with the name of my masseuse. It was important to me that I gave credit where credit was due! ELVIA was a phenomenal masseuse. Even after all this time, her healing hands resonate! I also must thank ELVIA for recommending the book "Slow Burn" by Stu Mittleman for my pursuit of spiritual running techniques. GREAT BOOK! I loved this spa. Beautiful remodel! Loved the ocean theme. Very relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. This spa is smack-dab in the middle of Del Mar Village. Great location. The L'Auberge Del Mar is also beautiful in all its' coastal surroundings. Guest service is optimal! Us girlz went to the Waterfall Bar for an apres-massage glass of bubbly. Sure wish I could have shopped in the boutiques, taken a stroll on the beach and then returned to my luxe hotel room ... just dreamin' as always! I came here recently with a group of girlfriends for our annual spa day and really wanted to love Spa L'Auberge. Unfortunately, in comparison to the other San Diego spas we've experienced over the years, Spa L'Auberge didn't hit the mark. My facial was simply okay. The neck and scalp massage portions were so monotonous that they actually left me feeling a little agitated (not what I'm going for at a spa experience!). The extractions were very painful. One of my girlfriends, who also had a facial, had the same complaints. Her poor skin was red and inflamed for days afterward. While we loved the outdoor relaxation room, particularly after the fire was lit, the rest of the facilities failed to impress. The ladies' locker room was out of tissues, combs and several other basic supplies, so we were left scrounging through our purses to find the types of things you expect a high-end spa to always have in stock. Sadly, there are just too many other great spas in San Diego for me to consider going back here any time soon. read more

I am a a new resident to Del Mar and my neighbors have been raving about the massages and facilities at this spa. Since it is convenient to my house (walking distance) I thought I would give it a try. Holy Moly - not only were the facilities amazing (and CLEAN!) but the massage from Tammy was the best I have ever had - and I receive massages at least once every 4-6 weeks! The pomegranate mimosa and refreshments were amazing and the receptionists (Dana and Tracy?) made me feel like we were old friends. This felt really good being new to the neighborhood. Disappointed. I received a facial at l'auberge while I was on vacation. I expected to receive five star service at a nice hotel but was sorely disappointed. The therapist tried to sell me on products the entire time, did zero extractions and cut the facial short by ten minutes. After the treatment my friend and I were going to lounge around and order wine and food - the entire staff was visibly annoyed at this and rude. They removed all the pillows from the cushions an hour before closing in order to get us out of there. We had even specifically called ahead to see if we could do food and wine there and they said yes. We vacation in Del Mar every year and I will never go back to L'Auberge. In fact, I would strongly recommend against their spa. Note: we did air our complaints to the front desk staff and she took 20% off our service charge which was nice but doesn't change the fact at how awful the service was. read more

My amazing girlfriends gave me a gift certificate here as a going away present before I moved to San Diego. To make a reservation, you have to actually call them which was a simple process, but really why not have an online system too? I booked myself for a 80 MIN SWEDISH MASSAGE ($180) and looked forward to a relaxing massage and spa day here. Well, I'm glad I did my homework and read some yelp! reviews before heading to Spa L'Auberge. I set my expectations really low after reading about their facilities/amenities (or lack thereof). For their high-end pricing, they really need to step up their game. Or maybe it's the lack of competition that allows them to extort the customers. Don't get me wrong - it's a clean facility, but it's very bare bones minimum for a place requiring $$$$. I've been to many $$$$ spas, but most of those were places where you could spend a full half day relaxing before/after your treatment. My massage was a 4 star experience (but my therapists hands were cold throughout most of the massage, which made it a less soothing experience). There was also an annoying constant ticking from the second hand of the clock in the room. The "relaxation room" is a little four seat room where you can relax before/after your treatments - on nice days, there's an extension onto the patio outside. I wish the other guests that were in the room didn't speak at their full level voices. It's a spa, be considerate of those trying to relax! There was hot tea and fruit flavored water. The locker rooms are clean, simple, and small. There was only a steam room. No sauna, no hot tub, no mist room, etc. etc. as I would hope for spending this much $$$. The shower stalls were clean, but there was no separation curtain/wall between the shower and where you hung your towel/robe. Minimal amenities/toiletries were available. 4 bottles of hair products and one lotion were about it. No face lotion, no SPF, no spray deodorant... I had to dig around in the cabinets to find a comb. The place was near empty when I was there on a cold Sunday morning. I'd imagine the place would feel too crowded if more than 4 people were there at the same time. A beautiful hotel located over looking the Pacific, I was impressed by their friendly valet who quickly welcomed me as I notified him that I would be at the spa. The spa is located on the grounds of the hotel just outside of the lobby. The hostess greeted me and showed me to the locker room. Small lockers but that was fine. The relaxation room/waiting area was nothing special. Missing was a water feature, a mineral tub, or zen music. Something to provide tranquility. I received a facial for today's visit. Nothing special. Nice products but it was not worth the price tag! $$$$ If it weren't for TravelZoo, I would not have gone to L'auberge but the deal sounded great. I want to preface this review by saying that the massage therapists we had were amazing, and loved every part of our couples massages. Unfortunately this place just does not live up to today's expectations of a resort spa. The amenities are nice, but lacking so much. They do not have any pools or hot tubs to relax in and no saunas. They have small change rooms, steam rooms that are luke-warm with no more steam than a warm shower. The location is right by the noisy street, so the environment is hardly zen and relaxing. Unfortunately for the therapists and guests, this place is just bare minimum at premium prices. Pleased with the ambiance - and my massage was professionally therapeutic, but have to say that I was very unhappy with the chilly reception that I found there at the Spa 'reception?' desk. As the recipient of a 500.00 gift certificate gift, I met with a design client for lunch after my treatment, at L'Auberge Del Mar. and explained that I was a spa guest for the day and I was using a portion of the certificate toward lunch for both my guest and myself. Rather that confirming my stay as a day spa guest, both the hostess and my server actually followed me back to the locker room and waited for me to retrieve my purse in order to guarantee the lunch with a credit card. This was all observed by my business client. One of the top spas I have ever been to. I love to spa and have been to almost every kind. Spa L' Auberge really impressed me. Here is why: Husband and I took a trip down south recently to visit my brother who was returning from Afghanistan. We chose to stay at L'Auberge after a friend recommended it. We had some spare time one day as my brother caught up on sleep and tried to adjust to the time zone, so we headed over to the spa. Since it was so last minute they didn't have much availability so we settled on their monthly special. A 90 minute treatment that included an organic vanilla orange raw sugar scrub, full hour massage and Morracan oil scalp massage. We arrived right on time, since they didn't have water rituals only a steam sauna. The front desk was cute, they had a little boutique filled with various products and gifts and the staff was really nice. They showed us where to go to change and we were on our way to bliss. The locker room was really nice. It had a beachy, cottage theme. All teals, blues and greens. It was small but not uncomfortable if another person was there also. I quickly changed and headed out to the relaxation room. They had an indoor room and outdoor patio. We sat on the patio for a few minutes until our therapists arrived. Husband loved his but is not great about explaining so I will share with you my take on it. My therapist's name was Switzerland or Swit. She showed me to my room and gave me the usual instructions before stepping out. What I liked was that she explained and let me feel each product she was going to use. She stepped out and I jumped on the table. A really nice table, the room was a comfortable tempurature but the bed was heated a big plus when you are getting a body wrap. Swit returned and began the treatment. She started with the scrub and was suprisingly firm with it. Most times the therapist seem scared of scrubs and don't really seem to work them in. So not the case here. After she brought me to the showers and I rinsed off, while she cleaned the room. She returned for me with water and brought me back to our original room to begin the massage. The massage was fantastic! Perfect pressure and not just a basic cookie cutter massage. She really customized it to my intake form. Hit all the tension spots I asked for and even did some light stretching. As of today it is in my top 3 of best massages of all time! I didn't get a scalp massage... I think she forgot but the massage was so great I didn't care. My skin felt amazing after and super soft. I headed over to the sauna to complete my visit before checking out. Overall... 4.0 stars I will return for a massage if I can get in with Swit and would even do the scrub again. The entire place was relaxing and freindly. Cons... No water rituals... super dissapointed. And I wanted to buy the body balm they used to complete the treatment but it wasn't for sale. =( read more

This could be my favorite place on the planet. We came here for a sisters get-away weekend. We had the best experience. The spa atmosphere is warm, relaxing and clean. The lovely ladies at the front (Sophie and Kelly) made us feel so welcome. They were attentive to all of our needs, anticipated our desires and even got us laughing. We had facials with Nicole and massages with Rachel. Both were outstanding, professional and attuned to our specific needs. Rachel quickly found points of tension and was able to gently and effectively relieve my pain. First off- MONICA WAS AMAZING. The best massage I've ever gotten in my life. She asked me about what I wanted and delivered. She customized the massage and kept it in a very serene flow. I would see her again and recommend her to anyone looking for a strong handed yet mindful masseuse! I'm giving this 3 stars not based on my service itself but the spa. The prices are high and in my many experiences you pay up based on the amenities. This spa although boutique can use some major updates. Their "relaxation room" is just lounge chairs with cobwebs, filthy cushions, sun stained pillows. Hadn't been swept in a day or two. The ladies lockerroom by my 6pm appointment had no toilet paper in the restroom, garbages overflowing with cups from the day. I picked up brush to brush my hair and it was soaked (nice to know it was cleaned but still). At $160 a pop for 50 minutes I think they need to step it up. They only have a steam room and upon booking made it seem like we could use the "amenities".... the hotel seems lovely has a pool and jacuzzi- they should at least offer a pass to use that. read more

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED to say the least. My friend and I made appointments to have our semi annual spa day at Spa L'Auberge this past Wednesday. We both booked the 50- minute facial. When we arrived the ambiance was so nice and relaxing we decided to change our facials to the 80 minute to take full advantage of our relaxing day. The facial I received was far from relaxing. The first thing I told the esthetician was that I was there to relax and I was aware I needed extracions but I didn't want to spend the most part of the facial in pain so I asked her to keep them to a minimum. Well she didn't listen. The worst part of the facial was not the endless extractions but that in those 80 minutes she did not find time to massage my hands, neck, or shoulders. All I wanted was to have a relaxing day and enjoy my facial. I felt so ROBBED! As we checked out the receptionist asked if we enjoyed our facials and told her I was very disappointed and was not happy. She said sorry and didn't ask why I was disappointed . After further discussion with my friend I decided to call the spa manager the next day to discuss the very disappointing experience I had at the spa.She wasn't available so I left a brief message. Its been three days and I have yet to hear from her. I just cant get past that in 80 MINUTES she did not find the time to give me a few minutes to relax and escape. I really wanted to love my facial. The last activity I had planned to close out my sister's bachelorette weekend was spa day at L'Auberge.. It was frick'n expensive. Like the most expensive massage I've ever paid for, but the facility is beaaaaautiful. It's funny bc the motions like the hand choreography of the massage is the spitting image of the massages at Spa Gregories, bc I would frequent that place for spa day and they were so similar with the pillows and heat and the way they worked down the body.. So for the actual price of the massage itself, I think you'd get just as much quality for a fraction of the price there, but the facilities here are much more luxurious. My sister and I had a couples massage roooofl is that weird? My friends at work were making fun of me for scheduling that but she's my sister we were bonding bahaha.. Anyway the room we had our massages in was beautiful with huge paneled windows letting in the del mar beach breeze.. Just the epitome of what a tranquil day at the spa should consist of.. And the massage was glorious.. We walked out of there all dazed.. I felt like I developed bradykinesia all my movements were so slow, I was just like flowing about the property hahha my cousins and the rest of the girls in our party were laughing at us bc like our responses and everything were so delayed and slow when they talked to us.. I wast just super relaxed lol We had an amazing time!! Those who didn't have a massage, got their nails done or whatever and we all hung out by the pool after.. The pool area is small. And there was a lot of kids that day and they overran the place, especially the jacuzzi which was disappointing bc I wanted to go in there too, but I couldn't bc there was no room.. But anyway, I mean if you have the money, I'd say go for it. Do the massage, just maybe go on a non-weekend. I think we went on a Sunday. That way you'll have more space to yourself in the pool, if you're thinking of going there after.. And the food that you can eat poolside is pricey and not that great. I'd just like hop across the street and have a better meal for the same price in the del mar plaza than being overcharged by the pool. But otherwise we all had a really great day! read more

I had a 2 hours treatment and unfortunately the day after I woke up with a terrible neck pain. I thought it would go away by itself but it didn't and just went down my back as the week went on... I called them 3 times and left them messages just to know how come I felt that way and what they could recommend me to do... I have NEVER heard back from them!!!!!! Awesome spot. If you are staying at L'Auberge it is 20 steps from the hotel. The Spa is themed after a beach house and really relaxing. The waiting area is relaxing and quite. I had Rachel as a masseuse and she was great. I would highly recommend the spa and request Rachel! read more
