The price of massages are on the higher end all cross the island - so that's not my reason for the mid rating. However the service was mediocre and I didn't feel any different after the massage. Couples spa treatment. We chose the Alana signature couples massage. The massage included, hot stone treatment, aroma therapy and Swedish style massages. First, the spa was clean and very spa-y. The music vibe was right and the hospitality was out of this world. Two ladies were our therapist and they were exceptional. They had great communication and seemed to flow with the rhythm of our bodies. I never shared an area that had been troubling me but when she started massaging that area it seemed like she knew it was a problem area. No more problem!!!! I'll have to admit I was so relaxed I almost started to slobber . I wish I could get one of these daily. My job is a high stress type of vocation so a periodic massage is needed. Karen the aesthetician applied false strip eyelashes to me today. She removed my makeup with coconut oil and apparently didnt fully remove it, so my lashes lasted all of 2 hours and I was wiping oil off my lids afterwards. The lashes came off immediately, but the glue she applied IN my real lashes did not. And I lost several of my real lashes trying to remove it. To top it off, I didnt realize gratuity was included in the bill, but Karen gladly took a cash tip knowing full well that she would already be receiving one. The resort refunded my money for the gratuity so I wouldnt be paying twice, but I had to argue for it. Btw, applying false lashes costs $40!!!!! read more

Where do I begin? Let's start with the fact that from the moment we opened the door to walk in for our couples massage, all we could do was "ohhh and ahhh" because of the most amazing smells wafting through the air that would send any nose, (pardon the description), into an orgasmic frenzy. After some small talk with Tomoko and Robert, we were taken to our room, which by the way smelled even more amazing. It also looked like something out of a movie scene. (See picture I posted!) I'd love to add that I loved the fact the Robert strategically placed a towel scented with peppermint under my headrest so my nose was in a state of euphoria the entire 90 minutes. Now I have been getting massages for over 10 years and let me tell you, NOTHING HAS EVER COMPARED TO THIS. And I don't just mean the beautifully set up room with surround sound island music playing... I mean the massages we received in general were AMAZING. Tumoko massaged my husband and I opted for Robert. They both made us feel so incredibly comfortable by answering questions and talking to us in the beginning to break the ice but also were quiet so we could both just relax to the sounds of the calming music and the gentle yet strong touch of their hands. Their hands can best be described as pure magic. I say this because my husband has plantars fascitis in his foot and by the time Tomoko was done with him, he was walking just fine. As for me, I have several areas in my neck and back that have herniated and bulging disks but I had ZERO PAIN by the time Robert was done with me. We received a bit of Hawaiian history from Robert as he was massaging me with hot stones which made me appreciate the use of the stones much more. The details that went into the massage made it so much more incredible. From the hot towel on the neck, back or face and even a hot towel wrapped around your feet to the hot stones laid in our hands as we were face down, the entire experience was worth more than what we paid. In conclusion, let me just say this... I don't care where you're staying in Maui or whom you feel is the best... you have NOT had the best until you've been massaged here by this power team! Tomoko and Robert ARE THE BEST. You will not walk out of here without saying, "This is the best massage I've ever had." Alana Spa is proudly located inside the Royal Lahaina Resort. read more

I was staying at a different hotel but after seeing the 5 star ratings for Alana Spa I decided to come here. My female massage therapist (Tomoko?) was amazing. I was sore and tired from my flight and running I had been doing. She suggested the lomi lomi and also combined it with a bit of a Sports massage which was perfect. She took her time asking what areas to focus on and had healing hands. It doesn't have the usual spa amenities of a large relaxation room. What it does have are incredible therapists which I value much more than cucumber water. Note-they do have water and fruit. I cannot wait to go back. I felt like a new person after my massage. Had a couples massage. Worst experience I have had. My husband's Masseuse talked the entire time...it was so distracting. While my masseuse was silent (except once to ask if I was OK after pushing my head up and to the side and me saying "ouch") It was very awkward and not at all relaxing. After the neck pull I was in pain down my whole left side of my neck and shoulder and even my left hip for over a week--which affected my vacation and hiking we planned. I had a 60 min massage and it was amazing!! Allí Kennedy was my massage therapist. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to the body, mindfulness, and holistic approaches. I had been feeling very anxious and stressed and she helped me decompress my mind and body by the end of the massage. She focused on the area that I mentioned I was having tightness and sensitivity. She was gentle and relaxed the area first before applying more pressure. I highly recommend Alli. She even recommended the name of a podcast to help me manage my anxious feelings. It's called Anxiety Coaches. I walked away from my massage feeling so much lighter and renewed. I got so much more out of it then just a massage! The massage room is very nice, well kept, and has a relaxing soothing ambiance. I highly recommend Alana Spa. I have stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort three times now. Robert is truly one of a kind....There are not enough stars I could give! I've been battling sciatica for almost a year now and have seen lots of many massage therapists in efforts of getting better. The pain is constantly nagging at me all day and night. I also work in a very stressful sales background and I am a local woman who is currently living on the big Island and vacationing in Maui, once home to me. Coming from a Native Hawaiian background, I have family who practice massage as a way of healing and restoring the body. I can tell you now, Robert has this very RARE healing touch. It takes a lot for me to relax and he accomplished that and more. The very next morning, I gently pressed on some spots that normally even with a small touch would feel so tender and sore...THE PAIN WAS NOT THERE ANYMORE. I was very shocked as Robert did say that he could not make things magically go away in one day as he was so humble to be sure not to over promise BUT I can tell you that I am blown away at what a difference just ONE session had made for me. I am saddened I don't live here to be able to come back regularly but I am pondering how life-changing it could be.
