Husband and I came here in August. We wanted to be pampered but also didn't want to break the bank. I was deciding between Spa at Black Rock or the Heavenly Spa at the Westin. Their prices were so expensive for 1 massage, so we decided to try the Spa at Black Rock. Ambiance was ok. There are no locker rooms to change into a robe. Once you enter, you sign in and they have you sit in a little lounge area outside. They will come out and get you when it's time. When you get to your massage room, that is where you will undress. Please do not bring any valuables. There's no lockers for you to keep your purse/wallet, rings. For the price we paid... the massage was relaxing, but the ambiance was not like a typical spa. No frills. There is no sauna or hot tub. No robes or slippers to change into. There is 1 shower attached to the restroom. So if you take a long time showering, and someone needs to use the restroom, they're screwed. If you're deciding between 2 places like we were... consider Spa at Black Rock for just a massage. But if you're looking for a place to relax and unwind before and after a massage, go somewhere else. Would we come back? No. Learned my lesson. I'd rather pay more and enjoy my time at a real spa. read more

Eliana was my masseuse and being that I've had ~30 years of frequent massages, I feel experienced enough to say that she was beyond amazing! We came here again after our first trip here. We didn't even bother looking for another place to try because we already knew we loved coming here. I got the hot rock massage again and it was amazing. Terri did an amazing job! She made me leave feeling light and refreshed. The room is comfortable, light music, fresh air and you can hear the birds chirping. Amazing! So glad I found this place on Yelp. I'm staying at another hotel and got a service there earlier this week that was good but very pricey even for 50 minutes. I saw that this place is not so far away, and is much more reasonable. They don't have amenities like whirlpools or a fancy locker room. In fact I threw them off guard when I showed up sweaty from hiking and wanted to shower before my treatment. But there was one very nice shower that they set me up with, and then I had an amazing treatment with Michelle. I was already going to give this place five stars for the friendliness, is of making an appointment, Michelle's wonderful lomi lomi and the value (I got an 80 minute treatment for less than 50 minutes at the Westin). But then, as I sat with my very tired body from hiking today and was thinking of Ubering back to my hotel, even though it's only a mile away, because I'm recovering from an injury and did not want to push my luck... Michele said she would drive me! I was the last client of the day, and she was incredibly kind and drove me from the Sheraton parking garage to my hotel. So very thoughtful. My husband and I decided to do a staycation and my husband surprised me with a couples massage. Our service was good, the negative thing about our massage experience was that there was ALOT of loud music going on in the background because it was the 4th of July. I get a massage at almost every resort we stay at--both internationally and in the US--and this was by far my least favorable experience. My masseuse was Chandler. Right when we entered the treatment room, she immediately tried to upsell additional services. Her sales pitch repeated everything the receptionist had already offered and took up valuable time that should have been dedicated to relaxation. I've never had a therapist do this before, and it completely disrupted the calm I was seeking after arriving. The outdoor spa room itself was far too distracting. There's a public path right next to it, so you constantly hear people walking by, having conversations, laughing, kids yelling and playing, and hotel carts/equipment rolling past. Inside the room, the masseuse's shoes made a loud, sandpaper-like scraping noise on the floor with every step, which was incredibly noticeable and irritating. The massage technique felt choppy and lacked any real flow. She would work on my shoulders, switch to my arms, move to my lower back, then jump back to my arms--there was no smooth progression. Every time she needed more oil, she walked across the room to the counter (again, with those noisy steps), breaking the rhythm and making the session feel disjointed. She was also very conservative with the oil; some areas felt like a dry rub, just pushing on the skin without proper glide. Overall, the techniques were very basic--I didn't sense much experience or any unique skills that seasoned therapists usually have. She placed a hot washcloth on my hands and feet, then began squeezing and massaging the tops of my feet. The top of the foot is mostly bone--shouldn't the focus be on the soles and arches? Throughout the entire session, I kept thinking, "What is going on here?" When the massage finally ended, I got dressed and walked out the door to another sales pitch--she did not even asked how I felt or if I enjoyed the treatment. The whole experience felt off and decidedly un-relaxing. At checkout, I asked the receptionist for a suggestion box to share my feedback. She said there wasn't one, but I could speak to the manager. I did, and she was kind and listened, I even suggested she should try a massage from Chandler herself to understand my complaints. This is the first time at any resort where I genuinely felt the massage was a complete waste of money. My friend got a 80min lomi lomi massage special for almost $500! Valet parking and being able to stroll around this gorgeous hotel were a big plus for us as we were not hotel guests. The spa was a nice, relaxing entry point with a waiting area. No "extras" - just waiting for the massage. We had a couples massage in the outside area. One of our massage therapists was all business - saying she was feeling busy. We appreciated it though because at one point in in the outside area a little kid was screaming for five minutes straight and she went out and told the kid's parents to relocate. My spouse said she was a very talented therapist. My therapist gave a pretty standard resort spa massage - totally fine for relaxing. We had such a great massage here! My husband and I got a couples massage of the hot stone massage, and we also purchased a hot stone massage for my dad for Father's Day. We all throughly enjoyed our massages! The massages were in rooms with a small opening at the top that opens to the outside, so you have full privacy but can also hear the birds and waterfalls outside. We did have a few people walk by and we heard them as well, but our massages were at 9am so we didn't hear many people, but hearing the birds and nature was so relaxing that a few people didn't really matter. All three of our therapists were very nice and made sure to ask what we wanted and if we were enjoying the massage. The place was also very clean which I appreciated. The spa doesn't have any additional amenities, which I would have liked from a resort spa, but they state this clearly on their website so it's not a surprise. The prices are high, but they are comparable if not a little lower than all other spas in the Lahaina/Ka'anapali resort area. Overall, a great massage! read more

The Spa at Black offered one of the best massages I'd had in a long time. The reservation process was easy and pleasant. Upon arrival I was checked in hands free and offered water and the use of the restroom before my treatment. The treatment room was peaceful and clean, but due to COVID guidelines, no robe or shower or even steam sauna was offered. That being said, my massage was fabulous. This is one of the best massage experiences that I've had, and I get several a year. My massage therapist even helped with my slightly frozen shoulder without me mentioning to her. So Maui is suppose to be heaven on earth.... Well the only inclusion would be to add Massuese Nicole & Esthetician Kaegil to your must have while visiting. Booked an appointment for a black lava scrub with massage and it was amazing start to end. Nicole's hands are super soft, but very nice firm massage given. Topped off with mango Shea butter that is a must purchase on your check out. Then came the facial with Kaegil, I fell asleep. She was so gentle and very thorough with the facial, explaining everything. Topped the face off with sunscreen & a wonderful oil for my lips, I purchased that too. Highly recommend booking with plenty of time. It's a bit pricey, but it's Maui, and it's an amazing experience, too bad you cannot nap in one of the rooms. We had a wonderful experience at the Spa at Black Rock. Gave it 4 stars as I consider a 5 star spa one with full amenities (Saunas, hot tubs, etc). Nonetheless, our experience here was fantastic. Arrival: The front desk clerk, Rojeena, was warm and walked us through our options when we came in a few days in advance to make our reservation and was the same person that checked us in day of the massages. The waiting room is a quaint, indoor/outdoor area. Pre-natal massage: I got the 80min pre-natal massage (I'm 28 weeks) and added the scalp massage. My massage therapist, Amie was fantastic! I've had a few pre-natal massages and this was definitely one of my top ones. I tend to like the soft/medium pressure- work out the kinks without too much pain. It was amazing. We got our massages after doing hikes on the road to Hana. My body was tired and sore and I left feeling so relaxed and rejuvenated. Deep Tissue: My husband got the 80 min deep tissue with Jenni. He likes more of the firm pressure which he said she nailed. The Open Aired Massage room: I've read reviews of noise with the open aired rooms. We did not have this issue. It was raining that morning and super windy when we went in. I'm sure between COVID and the weather it helped to not have others out walking about. Noise was not a problem in our experience. In fact the windy weather provided an amazing breeze and sounded almost as though the ocean were right outside our room. SUMMARY: Overall this was a great experience for the money we spent. If looking for a full service spa to spend the full day at I would recommend else where. However, this is a perfect, come in and get the job done in a relaxing atmosphere kind of place. This is not the kind of spa experience I expected to have at a resort in paradise. Amenities: There are no amenities (steam room, sauna, hot tub). There is no locker room. There is 1 individual unisex changing room that has about 6 lockers in it. There is 1 room that is the bathroom and shower. There is no a/c in the waiting room, lobby and half the treatment rooms. Not surprised (seems to be the norm at several places on the island). However, this is extremely uncomfortable after coming inside from the hot sun and putting on a spa robe. I was instantly sweating. The robes seemed old (my belt and robe were actually different shades of aged ivory). Treatment Rooms: All of the treatment rooms in the spa's building are private, but half of them are open air and the others are a/c'ed rooms. I was in an open air room for a couples massage. The room was basically an enclosed patio. It was fine, but the top of the wall is open and there is a sidewalk immediately on the other side. You have privacy, but can hear people walking by and talking. I would not recommend booking a treatment in the "beachside cabana". It is right next to a very busy side walk and adjacent to the pool. (not much quiet or privacy!) Employees: Everyone was pretty friendly. The massage therapist did a fairly good job. I would give her a 3.5 or 4. Hindsight, I wish I had read the reviews before going. The Sheraton is a wonderful hotel (minus the spa). It's just a short walk to go to the spa at a different resort in Ka'anapali! read more

The horrible experience that I had here has sworn me off SPA for my lifetime. The spa person ( name Rajeta) 20 mins into my facial had a towel on my face. I felt her moving towards the area where my hand bag and wallet was kept. To confirm that I was not imagining things, I took the towel of my eyes and I caught her red handed putting my wallet in my bag. We called the police and lodge a complain. The police could not find anything on her since I caught her before she could take anything. The SPA has not fired her. I cannot imagine why!!! Either the SPA management is naive or in cohorts with this thing. I would really caution anyone who going to use the SPA services to not lose sight of their valuables when in there. This entire experience has been a violation at so many levels for me. Update. It looks like this review did not get posted when I had drafted it. The above incident did happen exactly as I have mentioned but it happened a few years back. However another a person I know had similar experience recently. Not many options for massage places here in this part of the island as we do back home. Walked in and was able to setup an appointment 2 hrs later from the time I enquired on it. Arrived and was greeted and walked into the lounge/waiting area (small compared to other resorts I've been to) a few minutes later name was called out by my masseuse. Walked into the room that was dated didn't really give me a warm relaxing feel. The massage wasnt really that great as they didn't do it hard enough or the technique wasn't anything special. When I booked a visit for my girlfriend as a mothers day gift I had booked the appointment over the phone with all the proper information when the appointment was done the receptionist had asked for payment when I had already gave them my information but the receptionist asked if I would come inside to complete the payment? I did not understand because I gave my information so it was a great inconvenience for me to park and walk down to the spa when I got there the receptionist asked for my I.D. as if I was not the owner of the card and she had already added a gratuity when she could see by the look on my face that I would not have left a gratuity because of this inconvenience feeling like I was treated like a criminal we left immediately but as we were leaving the reception forgot to give my girlfriend the mothers day gift that came with the package I did ask my girlfriend is she did enjoy the massage she said no that the person giving the massage paid no attention to the areas that my girlfriend wanted to work on so I will not recommend this place for the simple fact that this experience was unprofessional read more

When we arrived for our appointment time, they said they didn't have 2 therapists to do the couples massage and only had 1 therapist available. Not apologetic at all and just blamed the manager. Extremely disappointed after our couples massage this morning. If this review was purely for the massage, it would be 5 stars. The massage therapists were fantastic and we feel great. However, our room was partially open to the outside and for the ENTIRE 50 minute massage there was someone right outside weed whacking and doing landscaping. It was incredibly loud and disruptive to the relaxing atmosphere. When we conveyed the disappointment to the front desk staff, she simply said that they aren't made aware of when landscaping is being done, quickly followed up by asking if we'd like to leave a tip. We had a couples massage that was on an outside balcony at first it was relaxing hearing the ocean but about half walk thru you heard a family playing hide and go seek yelling 10-9-8... HERE I COME! Because it was right next to the courtyard and below guest rooms. The two masseuses definitely had a specific technique that was more so just rhythmically applying pressure vs a massage in my opinion. It was relaxing to a point but not what I have experienced in the past. My husband told his masseuse to "go as hard as she could" pressure wise and he would say if it was too much and the pressure he received was light. Based on the reviews we were expecting better for the price. We had other family members find a local place and paid half as much per person. I initially bought e-gift cards to this spa as a present to my mom a couple years back from Costco. It's a great deal $100 gift card for $79.99. So on my most recent trip to Maui, I decided to partake in the spa experience. Now, this spa isn't like the other hotel spas I've been to on the island. It doesn't have the jacuzzis or soaking tubs or the steam rooms/saunas or the spacious changing rooms that other spas do. So if you go in expecting this, you will be disappointed. But they do have outdoor and indoor waiting areas to zen out and make tea or grab some fruit infused water from. And who doesn't love fruit water? Serious, best thing ever. I'm not a massage person but I do love body wraps and scrubs, so that's what I signed up for. I tried the black lava scrub which, if you are a coffee lover, which I am, you would be in heaven, which I was. The warmth of the scrub with the aroma of Kona coffee was relaxing in and of itself and it left my skin soft and supple. You could feel the effects of the treatment days after. And I should know since I was on a 5 hr plane ride the day after and my skin still was soft and moisturized. The therapist I was paired with was excellent. She always asked if the pressure was OK and it was. She was friendly and cheerful. I would go again and pair the scrub with one of the baths they offer beforehand to get a relaxing full spa ~75 minute experience. read more

We had couples massage. Nobody asked us what type we want. Usually you arrive at the spa and shower and relax before your treatment. The hostess lazily walked us to the locker room and looked surprised that I asked where the shower is. She said people usually just come from the pool and don't shower. The masseuse (Abigale i think) never asked how do I like my pressure. Before the massage I asked her to massage my neck and shoulders since i have a lot of pain in that area. During the massage, I asked her twice to increase pressure on my neck and shoulders, bit she didn't. So the whole massage was like a heavy lotion rubbing (like a whole bottle of greasy lotion all over me including hair) with very lazy strokes along my back with 0 pressure. And the price with tip came to be $310!!! Waste of money and time. I felt my muscles got more tense and I got more stressed after this "massage". read more

I went back in November and got a massage from another self-described "seasoned" therapist and it was not my cup of tea. The massage was a bit rough and disjointed in flow, and at the end she presumptively bellowed "how good do you feel now!", which I didn't...? However I will keep at 4 stars because (1) they were very accommodating about finding me a room to pump in before the massage for my comfort, and (2) they still take the Costco discount coupons. read more

Scheduled a random deep tissue while here for the week. I am usually a 1-2 massage per month person, as is my wife, and she also got a standard Swedish massage. Anne was my masseuse, and of the hundreds of massages I've had over the years, she was in the top 3. Very intuitive, great (but minimal) communication and hit everything I wanted, just the way I wanted it. I been a lot of places and never been so unhappy with my service. I paid for a tub soak and 80 min massage. The tub was great...that is until it made this loud rattling noise for more than 15 of the 20 minutes. I got ready for my massage and my masseuse asked me if I had athletes foot. I was too embarrassed to admit I hadn't had a pedicure so just said yes. She said oh with such disdain I was mortified. She basically spent the whole treatment avoiding my feet. Even if I did have athletes foot: be kind! I paid a ridiculous amount of $$$$ and felt like a leper. I had dry skin not an open sore. Additionally, they always put warm towels on your body after a massage to absorb the excess oil/lotion. Not here! So I left feeling like I had been swimming in an oil pit. The spa had no robes, the rooms were right near a noisy pathway and you could hear everyone in the hallways. Avoid this place and spend your money where you can actually relax and be treated with respect. read more

By the end of the session I was left oily and not relaxed whatsoever. The masseuse did not work on the knots I have on my shoulders and neck, which I emphasized.
