But I was starving, so I went ahead and ordered the Sashimi Moriwase Donburi and Karaage Curry Donburi from Tamashi & Poki. And wow -- I was surprised! The sashimi bowl was super fresh and came with a generous amount of fish. For $14.99, it was honestly good! The karaage donburi was also delicious and the portion was huge for just $10.95. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't what the Spot is. Walking up, I was disappointed to see the place empty and with a closed sign in the window. As I walked past to find a different lunch place, I saw a different door with an open sign in it, and noticed the "big crowd" inside. Popping in, I found four people. One looked to be taking pictures for social media. One was sitting at a table, one at the claw machine, and the last, very bored, at one of the counters. Not a great sign. So, the hall reminds me painfully of a mall food court. There are six ish restaurants along one side, lots of seating on the other, and it's literally otherwise a hall. A bar sits at one side, and that was indeed closed. The restaurants are little more than counters, and all have kiosks. Behind them is their presumably shared kitchen. The restaurants are all fast food style. You can order from any restaurant from any kiosk. I chose the Japanese restaurant Milan, and Gong Cha for boba tea (hi, my name is Joshua, and I'm a bobaholic). Gong Cha was good, Milan was okay, but I'm reviewing the space here. Oh, and one of the restaurants also sells cheap, $7 rings -- also a good sign. I did go to the restroom, and it was slightly terrifying. There's a sign over the urinals thats said "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING." I am not sure what that meant, but I was careful not to touch any surface in the filthy bathroom. You ever use a restroom and you contemplate whether washing your hands after is a net gain or loss? Gross. After eating, I asked the one staff member where to put my tray, which was a single trash can on the far area. None of the restaurants really impressed me, and they're all chain-like. I checked out The Spot in Rockville last weekend and honestly had a great experience. The food hall setup makes it perfect for groups because everyone can grab something different without compromising. I loved my meal at The Spot! It is so cool that you can order from multiple vendors at one kiosk. The food comes out quickly and I am already dreaming up another visit. At The Spot there are many vendors to support. Only one of the vendors seems to have vegan options. I wish that the menu items had ingredients listed so I hope what I ordered is truly vegan. There was an employee I asked about veggie options containing fish sauce. He gave me a bewildered look and said there was no fish sauce. I hope that information was accurate. I ordered tofu skin and black fungus from one vendor and white rice from another vendor. The total was about $11 and it was enough food for 2 meals. Such a great cheap option for a quick meal in Town Square. Both the tofu skin and black fungus are spicy!! The chili oil they use is perfection. When both appetizers are mixed with the white rice it mellows out the spice level perfectly. The Spot has a variety of restaurants to choose from including boba and desserts. We ordered food from 3 vendors on one kiosk, as it is self serve. The food comes out in different times so you have to be on the lookout for your food. It is also pretty confusing to figure out where to pickup your food. We had to wait a long time for food when there was not many people since it was near 8 pm to the point where we had to ask for an update on our food to make sure it was still coming out. The skewers were absolutely delicious but the sushi did not taste fresh. Gong Cha is amazing as always. There is a 49 cent convenience flat fee that is charged for every transaction which every potential customer should know about. This convenience fee is pretty high for something unnecessary and is not disclosed until you check out, especially since it is self serve, self pick up, we had to clean the table ourselves, and put away our trays ourselves. There was also no toilet paper in the bathroom. Imagine paying for a $4 donut and it almost becomes $5 with this hidden fee on top of tax and tip, then you have to sit at a dirty table waiting to pick up your food. The free parking is very confusing as well, there are parking garages that are hard to find, then several elevators that end up in different locations. I went into the Spot the other day to pick up a hot and sour soup and a couple of sushi rolls. I had ordered them online from the location's website. The hot and sour soup is very good. It's $6 for a quart (it's a large container - I think a quart). Has lots of water chestnuts, mushrooms and the other things you expect to find in a good h&h soup. The broth is not particularly spicy, but has a very prominent fruitiness - I think pineapple - which complements the tartness of the "sour" and adds depth to the overall flavor. I loved it. I planned to eat it over the course of a couple of days, but downed the quart right out of the container. Delish. I got two simple sushi's. One was spicy salmon (regular roll) and the other California roll (hand roll). Each was under $6, which I think is an excellent price. Six pieces in the regular roll with a nice portion of wasabi. The California hand roll was filled with vegis and was large and unwieldy to eat. I ended up deconstructing it, but it was tasty. Next time I'll get the regular roll. They also have low salt soy sauce to go, which I liked. The Spot overall is a collection of Asian-based fast food stalls in a large building called The Spot. You order from kiosk and, if you order items from different stalls as part of one order, it can be a bit confusing where to pick everything up. There's a bar in the front that I didn't go to but it looked popular. The donut stall sells a variety of small, somewhat heavy and delicious donuts. The seating area is comfortable, if a little dark. The prices seem good and I recommend a visit. Leave yourself some time, though. Love coming here. My go tos are Mian (Taiwanese noodle soups), CheersCut (fried chicken and seafood), and Gong Cha (bubble tea). It has ample seating indoors and some tables with umbrellas outdoors. Overall vibe is very hipster. There are large windows and give the space a very open feel. I suppose you could pull out your laptop and do some work here. But I think personally I would get too distracted as is hustle bustle type place. So glad it stayed open during the pandemic. Although prices are definitely higher now post-pandemic, but the food quality is still good. Mian: they actually make the noodles from scratch. Pre-pandemic you could actually see them pound and stretch the dough. The portion size for the noodle soups are good. They don't skimp on the meat and bok choy. Broth has lots of flavor. I often take the broth home to reuse a 2nd time. CheersCut: will satisfy your deep fry needs. You can get chicken on a stick, squid, calamari, and full others. Tastes great each time. Gong Cha: I know they are a chain but they are on the top of my bubble tea list. I particularly like their milk foam. Their sugar level is on the less side, which I prefer. My go to is the green milk tea with milk foam and grass jelly, 30% ice, half sugar. Alpaca Desert: I personally haven't tried it. But my friends have and they love it. I think presentation-wise they are great. But I think it is a bit on the pricey side. Good for a first try. There is also a bar that does have a partition from the rest of the restaurants. Sometimes local artists play here. For parking, there is a paid surface lot right next to the food court. You can use Parkmobile to pay. But there is also a retail garage right next to it as well that is free. Only cons is that the music is kind of loud. Highly recommend if you like Taiwanese food. read more

I place my order at the first option as you enter the place( can't remember their name) but I had the tonkatsu which came with its rice, seaweed salad, ginger, 2&2 gyoza & little shrimp pieces I think + 4 California rolls. As I waited for my order I went across the court for Gong cha tea :3 I ended up having 2 Wintermelon Boba Tea and drank 1 while waiting for my order. That's how good they are. The place was not packed so our service was fast, and the staff were friendly. I had actually just come out of the last day of a convention so it was a nice lunch stop. Sadly, I was not impressed with the tonkatsu but disappointed. There was some taste to it but compare to others the batter thickness compared to the thickness of the pork cutlet, it was not flavory as I expected it. This was my first time trying seaweed salad--not a fan and I will stick to spicy or salty seaweed snacks and wraps. Rice was ok, I like their cali rolls, the gyoza was yummy too. I've been to The Spot to get mochi donuts. But walking into this place just feels depressing. Each time I've gone, there's a unpleasant smell at the entrance. Thankfully, the mochi donut place is at the other end. There's a damp feeling that makes the place uncomfortable. I don't stick around long enough to dine-in. Most recent visit, there was a smell similar to bad seafood outside. There's a handful of food options. Soup noodles that I won't eat cause most of the soup base are beef broth. Chicken which I pass cause I never see anyone lined up to order there. We started with the stir fried noodles - omg yum. What I liked about it was the sauce, which had a good complexity of flavor. This place charged me 3% EXTRA FEES WITHOUT giving me a notice ahead(IN PERSON). This is ILLEGAL as they didn't clearly and prominently disclose the fees at the beginning of the ordering process to the customer. The extra fee is only €40.3(0.30%), but I hate this kind of practice. And to me, it's a "CHEATING" customer behavior. As a customer, I feel that I am being treated as dumb. I stepped into The Spot to scoop up a quick lunch. The owner/employee there placed the order for me and didn't mention that there was an extra fee. And I didn't see any clear notice about it anywhere in this retail food place. The order cost me $13.45 for the meal and $1.30 for so-called "taxes & fees" which doesn't make any sense. The Maryland State sales and uses tax is 6%. In my case, it should be €80.7($13.45*6%). That means there are €40.3 fees that I got paid without knowing what it is. This was a to-go order so it is legal to charge me a bag fee as Montgomery County charges bag fees of €5.0 per bag. In this case, if the merchant decides to charge the bag fee, it should list the bag fee as a separate charge on the receipt. Also, I only got 1 bag. And there is not a clear explanation of what are the rest of the fees for. read more

I went to The Spot with a friend on Saturday around 6pm - I ordered the Samurai Crispy Chicken meal with curry rice and she ordered skewers and rice. My chicken was good and even more flavorful after adding the sweet and sour and chili sauces, so I recommend asking for sauces. I also saw someone order a brown sugar boba drink from Gong Cha while I was waiting for my chicken. I ordered one and it was the delicious sweet treat I'd needed. They only allow take out because of covid so the chicken wasn't as crispy but I am sure when it is fresh, it is more tasty. The spot is a really cool...spot! Although it can be packed and bustling with noise and energy, it's definitely worth going to if you like having a few options for food, drinks, and dessert. I'd describe it as a swanky food court. I had Mian Noodles for dinner; I wish they had a vegetarian soup bowl because the other noodle soup looked so good. The dumplings were a bit doughy for lack of better words but I appreciate that it was steamed and not fried. The veggie stir fry was good. I really enjoyed watching them twist and pull the noodle dough so that was a cool experience. We also had gong cha; I had the passion fruit green tea and it was good but even with less sugar, it was really sweet. They have a $5 card minimum which I found annoying. With tax and tip, my drink would have been $5 but they wouldn't allow it so lucky for me, I supersized my drink. Surprisingly, I still had room for some Alpaca. We shared a cone and I loved it. It was the perfect finish and wasn't too sweet. Parking was a bit difficult and confusing too, but maybe I don't know how to maneuver a retail/residential parking lot. We were at the spot until 10:30 pm and had difficulty getting to our car and thought it had been towed. I first went to The Spot a couple of years before the Pandemic so I am comparing this experience to the one years ago. I recommended it to some friends from work and we met up there. I was so disappointed with everything I had there. So disappointed that I didn't take any pictures which is rare for me. I ordered the Flank Steak Pulled Noodles and the skin was still on the flank steak and there were several pieces of cartilage. I only ate "half" because I don't eat that type of skin or cartilage. What was disappointing is that you don't get to see them pull the noodles in front of you anymore. That was disappointing because I told all of my friends about it and it just never happened. I ordered Thai Tea from the Boba place and even asked for pearls. I had to take the lid off because the straw couldn't accommodate the pearls (which were not huge). I had to eat the pearls with a spoon that was not long enough which was frustrating. I am accustomed to being able to reach my pearls with my straw. Last but not least, the bubble waffle place that I loved was replaced by a mochi donut place. I was looking forward to them because I have had mochi donuts before and I loved them. I am so relieved I ordered only one for they were almost $4 each. The donut was not fresh fried and was borderline stale and dried out. I wanted to share it with my friends but I was too embarrassed. After coming here almost on a monthly basis, I have to say i am now a fan of this place. I really enjoy the Mian beef pull noodle soup. I usually get this spicy and with either the skinny noodles or hand shaved noodles. Their home made noodles are really good. Their dumpling are good as well although I wish the dumpling skins were thinner. In Cheers Cut, we like the Samurai Crispy Chicken the best. It's very crispy and flavorful. The skewers are pretty solid. I would avoid the Ninja Crispy Chicken as it's very soggy. MoMo Mochi replaced Alpaca dessert. The donuts are good but way overpriced at $3.50 each. Went back to grab some boba and food before heading back to Rockville Library last month. This food hall hype definitely died down a bit compared to last year, but you can see they still get a decent amount of consistent customers. Here are some updates since my last visit! Donburi: Tastes pretty good but it's a bit overpriced. I'd say if you have the money, it's worth the spend. I really like their Japanese curries personally just because it's not everyday you can go out and buy a dish like that. When you think Japanese cuisine it's usually some type of bento box or sushi. Cheers Cut: I like the Ninja Crispy Chicken when I'm really hungry but i prefer the nugget version still since it's just easier to eat and dip into your sauce (finger food over knife and fork!) They still do an excellent job with their meals and it's always been pretty spot on in terms of taste. Gong Cha: What can I say, I'm sure the majority of the people that visit The Spot will get boba. I actually prefer the Rockville Pike location over this one as I've actually had mistakes happen with my order here. There's a variety of solid options at this food hall-- Poki DC, Mian Noodles, Cheers Cut, Gong Cha, a sushi place, a bubble waffle dessert place, and a bar. There's usually something for everyone in your group and the prices are all reasonable. While all the food is decent, there's never been a dish that really stood out to me. Space was initially limited when it first opened, but now it's a lot easier to find a seat. The Spot also has pretty late hours which is great. Afterwards, the town center itself is quite nice to walk around and there are lights strung on the trees during the holiday season. This is one of the few places you can get free parking in RTC, they have a dedicated underground garage right behind the Spot, though the garage itself is a bit tight. I've been able to find parking almost every time I've been here, though there have been a few times where it was full and I had to park at Garage A/B/C and buy something random from RTC for the 2-hour validation. read more

Ube was sold out so I'll have to come back! Free public parking is available in the same building. It's a parking garage that also includes parking for the residents living in the apartments upstairs. The Spot has outdoor seating as well. The food here never disappoints! The Sakedon (salmon sashimi and avocado bowl over white rice) is so Fresh and always tasty! Same can be said for the Unagidon (Eel bowl) the taste is savory and always arrives hot, despite delivery. All the sushi dishes here are served fresh and prepared on the spot. They do special requests with add-ons for the sushi. The bubble tea is great as well. I cannot comment on the ramen, which is also very popular here. I have only ordered from here via delivery app, so I cannot comment on the location nor the level of service. A truly phenomenal place for quick, delicious Asian fare that will satisfy any craving. Their food is a bit overpriced for what you get, but The Spot has a fantastic vibe that's perfect for hanging out with friends and just relaxing after school or on the weekends. It definitely has a "hip" environment that's best-suited for teens and other young people, and I absolutely loved my experience there. They have several locations, which are all pretty great. Their offerings are as follows: Mian: This is my personal favorite in The Spot! They have great hand-pulled noodles and their broths (spicy and standard) are both pretty solid. They have three options for noodles -- skinny, flat, and knife-cut -- and they're all fantastic. I had their roasted duck soup with the flat noodles and it was absolutely amazing. Alpaca Dessert: A lovely dessert shop with Taiwanese bubble waffle cones, ice cream, and taiyaki. Their deal on taiyaki (20% off when you buy 3 or more) is pretty solid when you're with a group of friends and I absolutely loved it. I haven't tried their waffle cones yet, but I hope to go back to try them out! Tamashi: They have donburi, sushi, and classic Japanese appetizers like takoyaki. I personally thought that their servings were pretty small for how expensive the food was, but its definitely a solid choice. Cheers Cut: A great spot for Taiwanese fried chicken, other grilled/fried proteins, or skewers. I do think that their food is a bit overpriced for the portion sizes, but the quality is fantastic. I thought that their fried squid was particularly tasty. Poki DC: They offer traditional poke bowls, as well as salads and zoodles. The prices and portions are all more or less what you'd expect, and this spot is great for when you're looking for a lighter meal. I've been here 3 times now and overall, I would recommend it. I haven't tried the chicken place or the bar. Would be happy if they replaced the bar with another restaurant personally! Parking: I could be wrong, but I don't think you're supposed to park in that big open parking to the Spot. I believe there are signs there that say you're not supposed to park there or else you get towed. Instead, there is a free parking garage with no validation right past the spot through a brick entrance or if you turn right before Quikway, there are 2 garages there: one has a sign for leasing parking and is straight ahead -- park there and turn left to do retail parking. It's pretty easy to find once you know where it is and is convenient! Gong Cha: The chain name speaks for itself, so if you're normally a fan, you'll like it! To me, it's no different from the standalone Gong Cha locations. Sweet, large, tender tapioca pearls and delicious oolong milk tea (my go-to drink). Mian Pull Noodle: LOVE the flat noodles. Great texture and taste. Ordered the beef noodle soup (slices not chunks) and they give you a generous serving of beef. I wish there were more noodles though (you can't even see it in the photo) and a little less beef. Broth was tasty and well-seasoned. Not sure if they use MSG because it didn't taste too salty, but afterwards I needed to drink so much water (both times that I had it). Also tried the combination beef noodle soup. The tendon and tripe were great, lots of meat once again and not enough noodle. The beef chunks were overcooked; a little too dry on the inside but not inedible. Poki DC: I really like the poke here. Unlimited toppings and sauces, fresh salmon and delicious spicy tuna. Sushi rice also has great flavor. Alpaca: Egg waffle alone is my favorite. Crispy, perfectly sweet, great topping and drizzle selections, generous portion of ice cream. However, their matcha ice cream was a miss for me. Did not have that strong matcha flavor that I love...barely tasted like matcha. It was good and a huge portion, but not sure what that ice cream flavor tasted like. Also, their taiyaki is SO SMALL for $4. I was expecting a much much bigger taiyaki especially for that size of paper. The taiyaki was about 4.5 inches long with not a lot of filling....smaller than my hand. Also the taiyaki was too sweet for my liking, but that's a personal preference. Still tasted good. read more

If you're from the DMV area, you've definitely heard of The Block in Annandale. Well, The Spot is a food hall with a similar concept. They have some great food vendors for a meal or small bites, they have your boba fix @ *Gong Cha, and they have their own bar too. Location is easy to find, parking is decent, and the interior is snazzy. Love it! Although it is less spacious inside, and can get busy, they have a lovely lounge area and perfect for those with kids. Would definitely recommend trying out the *Mian noodles, which are handmade in the front window, for all to see. It's so amazing to watch the process of how they make them, also is a big bonus of how fresh they are and made to order. *CheersCut offers the popular Taiwanese fried chicken, which is definitely a hit. They have a bunch of other notable snacks too for all your deep fried addictions such as their squid, shrimp, beef and etc. The bar is definitely worth stopping by, my boyfriend and I had such a great experience here on his birthday. The bartender was super friendly and welcoming. We tried the Rainbow shots on the menu, which was so cool that they offered them! Not super high in alcohol content, but nonetheless a fun experience. We also got their B 52 shot, and yummmm! Try their mojitos too, always my go-to drink, and they make them pretty well! If you're hungry, they also offer food at the bar, so they have everything you need for a good time. So far, good value ($), good people, good eats, no complaints.
