Chicken broth with lots of kimchi to flavor it.

Recently went back to Urban Hot Pot after a year away. I had stopped going because I felt the quality of the meat dipped when the strip of new Asian restaurants including the mega hot pot place opened on the other side of Rockville Pike. Back then, a number of servers moved from Urban Hot Pot over to the new place across the street. I heard the owners of both restaurants were the same and it seemed that for a while they weren't showing Urban Hot Pot the same love as their new launches. I am happy to say Urban Hot Pot is back in top form! The meat was excellent! The veggies were great. Service was friendly and prompt. I noticed they have added some new broths which were good! Their ice cream selection has improved as well. I was really pleased with our entire experience and will be going back again soon!

AYCE hot pot. They have a conveyer belt in the middle of the restaurant that brings food to your table. Alas we were seated in a table to the side away from the conveyor belt. Not to worry, there are tablets at the tablet to order the meats and vegetables you want that get delivered to your table fairly promptly. There's a cute robot that delivers but mainly it's from the wait staff who are very friendly. Had the spicy beef broth which wasn't too spicy. Parking is difficult so use the garage attached to the nearby Asian grocery.

I've been to hop pot shops before, but Urban Hot Pot adds to the experience with their rotary carousel that brings little plates of fixin's around to each booth. Forget to order an ingredient? just wait a little bit and it'll show up on the conveyor belt, just grab it and dump it into your steaming pot of broth. The variety of broths is pretty good here, and the number of possible fixin's is huge. It's easy to get lost in all the possible conbinations available off the menu. The ingredients are fresh and there's plenty to go around (literally). The best part, however, was the option for ice cream afterwards - sticks, cones, or cups, take your pick. Thumbs up for Urban Hot Pot!

I have been coming here since they opened and several times a year when I'm in Rockville. Urban Hot Pot is a franchised and has several locations. Broth is consistently good and their meat quality is much better than other hot pot place. Service is quick with ipad and severs are friendly. The vibe is good and place is always clean.

If you're looking for a great all-you-can-eat hot pot experience in Columbia, Urban Hot Pot is definitely worth checking out! The staff here is awesome -- super friendly, attentive, and always ready to help without being overbearing. Ordering is super easy with the tablet system at the table (love the tech upgrade), and they even have a timer on the screen so you know exactly how much time you have left -- no awkward "uhhh do we have time for another round?" moments! The meat quality was surprisingly high for an AYCE place -- everything we ordered came out fresh and well-prepared. Definitely a step above what you'd usually expect at an all-you-can-eat hot pot spot. There were just a couple minor downsides: the sauce bar was a little limited compared to some other places I've been, and the fried/hot food bar was cold when we visited. Nothing deal-breaking, but worth mentioning if those are important to you. Overall, Urban Hot Pot is clean, efficient, and fun -- with great food and better service. Definitely planning to come back soon (and next time, I'm bringing my stretchy pants).

A plate of seafood. The shrimp and pork dumpling were very good.

Celebrating a birthday is always fun, especially when the birthday girl has never tried hot pot. I love introducing someone to new foodie adventures. We ordered 2 broths; the house broth and the miso broth. We both loved the flavor and depth of the miso broth. The house broth was not a favorite. I was sorry that we didn't exchange that one, for another broth. We ordered a variety of meats; we had the lamb, the pork belly, and the sirloin. They were very generous with their portions and each of the meats were delicious. We ordered a bunch of vegetables. The bok Choy, corn, mushrooms, potatoes, broccoli, and string beans, they were all fresh and tasty. We really enjoyed the udon noodles. They were very flavorful in the broth. We ordered the ramen noodles, but we were so full, that we forgot about them. The seafood was lacking in freshness and taste. The lobster balls tasted fishy and not fresh. The crab sticks were the same way. We did love their shrimp with the head on. I think they could have been a little bit more generous with your portion size. Ambiance was lovely. It gives you a modern industrial feel with lots of tables and overhead lighting. I am sorry that we couldn't get a table by the conveyer belt. I think that adds a layer of extra fun to the dinner party. The service lacked a lot in my opinion. It took awhile to get someone's attention, if you needed something. The one novelty was the talking robot. He was entertaining and fun. He brought us our drinks and refill on the shrimp. All in all, it was a lot of fun. But, for the price, they need to work on higher quality seafood and better service. That is why I rated them a 4.

Yummy!! Love that it's individual style hot pot and everything for the most part is thru direct order on the table touch pads. Any service that required a person was prompt and helpful. I do wish they had a pork broth option without spice (thinking of my parents here) but I thoroughly enjoyed having the numbing spice just right for my own bowl.

This place is great because they allow you to switch your broth option if you change your mind. Some places do not have that. In addition, they have a conveyor belt that you can grab food from so you don't have to order on iPad for the next round. They also have a great dessert menu with the coconut jelly being the best. That's if you have room for dessert after your hot pot feast.

I truly think Urban Hot Pot is my favorite place for hot pot. Pretty much an AYCE place, focusing on using soup as a way to cook your meats & vegetables. It's very chaotic and I think going as a group is the best experience. You have a tablet at the table and you can pick which broth you want, which meat/vegetables/starch/seafood and many more to your hearts content. The reason why I think this system works so well is you just get so overwhelmed by the amount of options that it gives you so much more of a good reason to come back. I really think they give you great value for the price you pay. Since I went there with a large party we were definitely there for at least two hours. I know that the time limit is around 90 minutes but I think it wasn't packed as much on a Friday night. It was nice that the staff was able to accommodate 12 people into one table; you have to call them in advance. The yelp site only allows up to six people and a time to reserve. This place does get packed and you do wait a bit before you can start your hot pot adventure. There's the sauce bar which contains numerous sauces and toppings for you to create your own dipping sauce.. Soy Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Sesame Oil, Peppers, Chopped Coriander, Salt, Pepper, Peanut Sauce.... the list goes on and on. There's a small recipe block that gives people some recommendations; there's no judgment here so go crazy honestly! What's also interesting is three things. One, there's also soft serve ice cream right next to the sauce bar which is great if you even have room for dessert after eating everything hot pot has to offer. I definitely took advantage and also ate a lot of vanilla ice cream that night. Second, there's a cute robot that also brings you your food on plates; I think this also helps add to the speed and delivery of orders as so many people are ordering all at the same time. Third, there's a conveyor belt for the tables in the middle. I think that's cool as a way to entice others to try out new items but most people would have already ordered what they wanted/got the same thing that is on the conveyor belt. There are is one thing I think people should really know before coming here. Parking isn't the best and if you're impatient like me, there is a parking garage in the back of the building. It's paid parking where the first two hours are free but they start charging on the third hour. Not very ideal but I guess you could try to loop around the whole building for a space. Would I recommend Urban Hot Pot? 100% absolutely. I think Hot Pot in Rockville is some of the best that the DMV overall has to offer; I'd gladly go through I-95 Traffic for some delicious AYCE Hot Pot.

Ask the Community - Urban Hot Pot

Are they doing the conveyer belt again yet?

As of July 2022, they are doing the conveyor belt again!

Is the dinner menu different from the lunch menu?

No not to my knowledge. Lunch special is only available on weekdays! There's no weekend lunch special

    What time is "lunch"?

    12-3pm

Do they welcome one person for all you can eat?

    Yes they do

Will they bring back hot pot starting this Friday?

    Starting 6/19 Friday at 5pm.

How much are lunch prices and dinner prices?

Lunch is $19 and dinner is $26.

Are all of the soups gluten free?

Theres an clear broth option thats mostly spices so i would say yes. Additionally, only the things you want go into the soup after that so you can self regulate.

Is this place kid friendly? Or are there tables that are kid friendly?

How young is your child? I recommend urban hotpot to everyone, but it might be dangerous if kids try to touch the hot pot.

Do they have Gluten-Free options and are the various broths gluten free?

Yes, plenty of meats, veggies and seafood. It's a buffet so you can order what you want.

When is a great time to go to Urban Hot Pot to get a table during lunch?

Lunch time! Less crowded, and less expensive.

    Is the broth vegetarian?

They do have a vegetarian option on the menu. And they also have an herbal broth which I was told is also vegetarian based. The tomato broth has a chicken stock base. All the other births that they offer are Pork based. I hope this was helpful.

Is the menu the same for lunch and dinner?

    Yes , the same

    What is weekend price?

Prices are the same whether weekend or weekday. Its all you can eat, lunch is 16.99 dinner 23.99. Kids under 10 are 50% off.

    Is there convenient parking nearby?

I would park in the Safeway garage. The first two hours are free.

    Do they take reservations?

I checked on their website, they only let you make reservation for 5+ parties. You can join the waitlist via Yelp for 4 or less parties on the day of.

How much is it per person?

16.99 for lunch. 23.99 for dinner. AYCE for both

The inside had a lot more tables than I thought and the space was bigger than I thought. If i'm being honest, I first chose this place due to the conveyor belt, robot, and $20 lunch price point. Unfortunately, I only kind of got one of those. To my shock, the price increased to $25 for lunch and the conveyor belt was no longer working. I was honestly most excited about the conveyor belt. I saw some reviews that said due to covid they stopped it but if you ordered things, it was sent that way. Unfortunately I think the conveyor belt hasn't been in use for a while because they had decor and everything on it. They did have to robot but it only delivered drink and desserts sometimes. There were even times the robot was on its way to deliver something and the waiter stopped it in the middle of the walkway and deliver the item himself. I wouldn't say the experience was bad but I think it was subpar. Although I did like that the tables give you individual pots because I've been to some places where six people have to share one pot in the middle and it's chaos because you have to reach over people so the individual pot was great. In terms of the actual food it was not bad. The server was actually nice and brought us angus beef which was a dinner item, although we were there for lunch. I mad a great sauce from the sauce bar. I loved the appetizers they had. The fried rice and noodles were exactly how I love it. The fried rice was how i'd have it growing it. All and all loved it and will probably go back at some point. Parking was a little of a hassle so I would keep that in mind. Even during lunch it was hard to find adequate street parking.

Everything was good except for one thing, which I think is pretty important and influences my final score. When we arrived, I told the server we were new to hot pot and we wanted to try two broths. He showed us the iPad ordering device and told me that we should order a half and half pot for $1 extra to get two broths. So, I ordered a half and half pot, and then ordered a variety of meats and fish. We went up to get veggies, which were all being stored at a good cold temp and all looked good. Then a single SMALL pot (they have two sizes of hot pot) was delivered to our table, half one broth and half the other. As I put some of the ingredients in (we were feeding two people), the hot/spicy broth spilled over to the other (tom yum) broth, and essentially turned the whole meal into a spicy broth meal. We got no taste of the tom yum. As we ended the meal, I noticed that other couples had two different pots. We essentially were cramming food for two people into a single pot (and it was one of the small pots, not one of the big ones). As we went to pay the check, I asked the server if we should have gotten two individual pots, each with a different broth. He said "oh yes. I should have told you that." What??!!? So, we basically spent well almost $90 (including tip) for a single small pot of spicy broth mixed with other broth, and having to spend the time minimizing the transfer of broths from one side to the other by minimizing the amount of food we put into the small pot. Yes, I'm ticked off (and I don't tick off easily). The meal would have been very good, but I feel like we got taken advantage of and the server, when he saw us struggling to keep the broths separate and knew he should have been served two pots, didn't say a word, apologize, or offer us any discounts. I reached out twice to the restaurant through Yelp, but heard nothing back. Again, the meats looked good, the veggies looked good, the sauce station was a nice addition. But everything was crammed into a small pot that tasted the same. And they charged us an extra dollar for the privilege! Ugh. I'm really disappointed - and ticked off.

Not to mention, the waitress didn't explain the process as she should have, especially knowing it was our first time there and we had to call her over several times. We thought this was a typical Korean BBQ/hot pot place ... it's not. We frequent many of the AYCE restaurants in the area. This was nothing like the others. You don't cook the food on the grill yourself, they cook it in the back for you. Usually we get several different cuts of beef/pork/chicken. We ordered beef/chicken and pork skewers. They were tiny and we didn't love the dry seasoning they used. The fried pork was listed as an additional charge, so we didn't get it. We feel like there weren't enough meat options (for grilling in the back), seemed like a lot of seafood or exotic selections. So we were stuck eating stuff like chicken nuggets and the hot pot (which we usually enjoy just as a side option in addition to our grilled meats. They also forgot our two rice orders. I felt like the Hot Pot was too big and needed more flavor. We tried the plain chicken broth and the spicy beef chili oil (it was spicy but not flavorful). They brought out a ton of rolled meats but seemed like not enough sides. In essence, we spent $100 (including tip) on freaking Hot Pot. Disappointed and won't be coming back here.

So, pretty much pulled a name out of a hat and would up at Chuan Tian Xia because, well, Szechuan cooking uses chiles, no? Yesssss! I ordered Signature Dumplings and a bowl of Beijing-style Beijing-style Zhajiang Noodles. The dumplings were outstanding: a mix of shrimp, pork, and chive that were plump, juicy, fragrant with the herbaceous flavor of chives. The accompanying sauce was not too sweet, not too hot, just right as a complement to the dumplings. Yowza. I was a happy camper... ...and then I dug into my noodles. Double yowza! Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)

This is a place you need to come to hungry! I had a great time here with friends a few weeks ago…read more We were able to get some drinks from the happy hour menu right before it ended. Our server, Kelley, was great. She explained how everything works here. The buffet is pretty extensive and you can get full from that alone. They have an option to just do the buffet (during lunch hours). There is a good selection of meats. there's a robot here that brings stuff to the table - pretty cool. We were stuffed! It's a bit pricey but was worth it. I would visit again.

If not in the mood for it there is a hot pot menu (with table side burners for individual pots with broth that one cooks protein and veggies in). They also have a classic Chinese food menu one orders à la carte, where the dishes are made to order in the staff kitchen. One of the signature dishes is their Peking Duck. We didn't get the Duck, hotpot or bbq this time. Got 3 different entrees: jumbo salt shrimp, fried bean curd with vegetables and spicy chili fish filet. The fish had plenty of chili oil, dried chili, Napa cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, bean thread noodles and scallions accompanying. Was flavorful and numbing. The tofu dish was a solid vegetarian source, with fried soy braised tofu triangles, broccoli, mushrooms s, cabbage and carrots. The best dish is their shrimp. Large prawns with the shells on were fried in salt, pepper and chili powder. The shells were crispy and edible and absorbed the flavoring well. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and succulent. Great place, will need to try other dishes.

I've also enjoyed their other dishes too. Dishes came out relatively quickly too, but the staff has warned us what takes longer to come out. I found the prices to be extremely worth it for portion sizes and quality, alongside their cash discount. So easy to walk in and order with the tablet. If this was closer to me, I'd come a lot more often, but I have already taken the hike to come here twice, so I like this place that much! The bathroom is nice too with their sink.

The huge chicken with taro dish we ordered felt a bit cold in the middle; the bbq skewers and the spices they used felt subpar; and the non-bbq eggplant dish felt underwhelming. The huge chicken soup ($45) was forgettable. The taste reminded me of ramen instead of pork and chicken broth. The highlights were the pineapple fried rice, the pig brain, and the bbq eggplant (we ordered two different eggplant dishes). The mala dry pot was not bad either. Overall, the serving portions were huge. The service was pretty good too. The price for the portion was great. 3.5/4 and I bumped it up to a 4.
