Came solo for lunch today with a hankering for AYCE hot pot. When I was seated, they explained how the iPad ordering worked and how to operate the stoves. (Turn off or low or high). I ordered a variety of veggies and fish and some chicken, and side orders of kimchi and cucumber in chili sauce. There's a sauce bar with a variety of ingredients and some helpful suggestions for sauces. Because they sat me at a table for 4, they invited me to try two hot pots (which was very nice). I got a seafood and mushroom. I also made myself a few sauce combinations. The food arrived quickly. Looked great. Food was fresh and cold and the meats (I only got chicken but looked at other's tables) looked great. The servers were helpful and friendly. Filled my water glass when I asked them to and took away empty plates pretty promptly. The place is equipped with a conveyor to transport plates of veggies, but it wasn't operating (maybe because it wasn't crowded). There's a robotic server that they used on occasion to bring drinks and plates of food to different tables. I liked this very much. The broths were good and the food was fresh. The cucumber and kimchi were very tasty, especially the kimchi. Each portion I ordered was large - one portion of marinated shrimp was 8 healthy-sized shrimp and the white fish (bass filet) was 4 pieces. Sweet potato was 4 pieces per order, etc. So be aware of that when you order, especially if you come solo. There's a lot that comes out with each item ordered. Recently went back to Urban Hot Pot after a year away. I had stopped going because I felt the quality of the meat dipped when the strip of new Asian restaurants including the mega hot pot place opened on the other side of Rockville Pike. Back then, a number of servers moved from Urban Hot Pot over to the new place across the street. I heard the owners of both restaurants were the same and it seemed that for a while they weren't showing Urban Hot Pot the same love as their new launches. I am happy to say Urban Hot Pot is back in top form! The meat was excellent! The veggies were great. Service was friendly and prompt. I noticed they have added some new broths which were good! Honestly, I can't really ask for more than AYCE hotpot WITH a carousel. Bonus is that they have sauce recipes in the sauce-making station. I mean take those and just add some fresh hot pot ingredients and you have probably my favorite hot pot in the area! I came on my birthday with some friends so my meal was free (they do check ID and it has to be on your birthday) but I had no complaints. The menu selection was good, I got mostly seafood ingredients including fish/lobster balls, fish filet, and veggies. Everything came out quickly and portions were huge. Dessert selection was also good with fruit and coconut sago which actually tasted great compared to some other hot pot places that only offer orange slices and melon. We came on a Sunday for lunch so there weren't many people in the restaurant, but the carousel was loaded. If you're lucky you may find parking in front, but there's 2 hour parking in the garage as well. read more

Lunch all you can eat is 24.99. Dinner is 34.99 for weekends and holidays. It's dinner price all day. Also love the birthday deal. I think this is a great place for a fun experience. You get your own pot of soup and you can make your own sauce the sauce bar, which can be kind of fun. I recommend anything that has the peanut sauce. I do wish I knew what was in the meat sauce just so I can kind of calibrate how much sugar I am taking in, but that's OK. The vegetables are fresh. The meat comes out quite tasty. I also really like their desserts the coconut sago, and the herbal jelly coconut sago are quite similar in taste. I tend to always get the herbal one just to feel healthier. I also really like the orange slices. I like to eat things that I don't really eat at home, which includes the enoki mushrooms, the lotus root, the seaweed knots (I leave it cooking a while), and love the fish (it's the first one in seafood selection. The service is very quick. They bring out the things that you order within a few minutes. The ambience is also nice. It's not a hole in the wall and it's in a nice plaza. The parking is limited in the front but there's always street parking with meters that you can get. And supposedly there's a parking garage where the first two hours is free, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I think the options and service is great, but that their wait time is really long. It would've been great to have the option for reservations for parties of 2 on the weekend. The food itself was grand. There were a ton of options from veggies to seafood. There were also so many broth options - I personally like the kimchi broth the best. When you mix it with udon noodles, it's truly chef's kiss! Decor is minimal but there is a rotating bar where you can grab veggies for your hot pot. The service standard, the ingredients pretty decent, and the setup is excellent where people have their own pots, and choice of soup base. Things are fairly automatic and you take your time to do things your way. They bring out enough meats to satisfy my meat eating friends and there is an excellent amount of selection there. I've been to hop pot shops before, but Urban Hot Pot adds to the experience with their rotary carousel that brings little plates of fixin's around to each booth. Forget to order an ingredient? just wait a little bit and it'll show up on the conveyor belt, just grab it and dump it into your steaming pot of broth. The variety of broths is pretty good here, and the number of possible fixin's is huge. It's easy to get lost in all the possible conbinations available off the menu. The ingredients are fresh and there's plenty to go around (literally). The best part, however, was the option for ice cream afterwards - sticks, cones, or cups, take your pick. If you're looking for a great all-you-can-eat hot pot experience in Columbia, Urban Hot Pot is definitely worth checking out! The staff here is awesome -- super friendly, attentive, and always ready to help without being overbearing. Ordering is super easy with the tablet system at the table (love the tech upgrade), and they even have a timer on the screen so you know exactly how much time you have left -- no awkward "uhhh do we have time for another round?" moments! The meat quality was surprisingly high for an AYCE place -- everything we ordered came out fresh and well-prepared. Definitely a step above what you'd usually expect at an all-you-can-eat hot pot spot. There were just a couple minor downsides: the sauce bar was a little limited compared to some other places I've been, and the fried/hot food bar was cold when we visited. We ordered 2 broths; the house broth and the miso broth. We both loved the flavor and depth of the miso broth. The house broth was not a favorite. They were very generous with their portions and each of the meats were delicious. We ordered a bunch of vegetables. The bok Choy, corn, mushrooms, potatoes,broccoli, and string beans, they were all fresh and tasty. We really enjoyed the udon noodles. They were very flavorful in the broth. We ordered the ramen noodles, but we were so full, that we forgot about them. The seafood was lacking in freshness and taste. The lobster balls tasted fishy and not fresh. The crab sticks were the same way. We did love their shrimp with the head on. I think they could have been a little bit more generous with your portion size. Ambiance was lovely. It gives you a modern industrial feel with lots of tables and overhead lighting. I am sorry that we couldn't get a table by the conveyer belt. I think that adds a layer of extra fun to the dinner party. The service lacked a lot in my opinion. It took awhile to get someone's attention, if you needed something. I truly think Urban Hot Pot is my favorite place for hot pot. Pretty much an AYCE place, focusing on using soup as a way to cook your meats & vegetables. It's very chaotic and I think going as a group is the best experience. You have a tablet at the table and you can pick which broth you want, which meat/vegetables/starch/seafood and many more to your hearts content. The reason why I think this system works so well is you just get so overwhelmed by the amount of options that it gives you so much more of a good reason to come back. I really think they give you great value for the price you pay. Since I went there with a large party we were definitely there for at least two hours. I know that the time limit is around 90 minutes but I think it wasn't packed as much on a Friday night. It was nice that the staff was able to accommodate 12 people into one table; you have to call them in advance. The yelp site only allows up to six people and a time to reserve. This place does get packed and you do wait a bit before you can start your hot pot adventure. There's the sauce bar which contains numerous sauces and toppings for you to create your own dipping sauce.. Soy Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, Sesame Oil, Peppers, Chopped Coriander, Salt, Pepper, Peanut Sauce.... the list goes on and on. There's a small recipe block that gives people some recommendations; there's no judgment here so go crazy honestly! What's also interesting is three things. One, there's also soft serve ice cream right next to the sauce bar which is great if you even have room for dessert after eating everything hot pot has to offer. I definitely took advantage and also ate a lot of vanilla ice cream that night. Second, there's a cute robot that also brings you your food on plates; I think this also helps add to the speed and delivery of orders as so many people are ordering all at the same time. Third, there's a conveyor belt for the tables in the middle. I think that's cool as a way to entice others to try out new items but most people would have already ordered what they wanted/got the same thing that is on the conveyor belt. There are is one thing I think people should really know before coming here. Parking isn't the best and if you're impatient like me, there is a parking garage in the back of the building. It's paid parking where the first two hours are free but they start charging on the third hour. Not very ideal but I guess you could try to loop around the whole building for a space. Would I recommend Urban Hot Pot? 100% absolutely. We had lunch here yesterday and it was amazing! They didn't do a good job explaining when we sat down but we figured it out. You order everything through the tablet on the table. You choose your hot pot base - I had chicken, Very tasty! Then order all the fixings - noodles, veggies and meats. You can also order cold sides - traditional seaweed salad was delicious! I also loved the cucumber salad. I would skip the beef next time. Service was efficient. We tried all of the noodles and the udon was my favorite! I loved the pork wontons! At the front of the restaurant is the sauce bar with so many different sauces - my favorite was the meat sauce! The robot who delivers some of the soup ingredients and drinks was a highlight!! The variety of items you can order is great that falls under the AYCE part. The quality of the items are pretty good too, including the seafood, which is what I'm usually most wary about. Service wise, you have an ipad you use to order and everything came out pretty quickly. The conveyor belt in the middle is also pretty convenient for getting the more basic stuff (veggies, fishcakes, quail eggs, mushrooms), which also makes the service move faster. The interior is also very nice and neat. The only thing I would say is that the wait time is pretty long so you really have to prepare yourself, and the sauce bar has a bit less variety compared to other places but still very good. read more

I love that we can order everything on the iPad and the food comes out very quickly, with drinks being delivered on a cute robot. There is also a conveyor belt next to the tables in the middle, so if you wanted to pick up some extra vegetables or tofu then you can conveniently grab it from the side anytime. Meat and seafood, however, have to be ordered through the iPad. My favorite items are the beef brisket, fish filet, quail eggs, and shrimp (which is already peeled for you!) but all the items we've ordered have been delicious and fresh. On my mom's actual birthday, she was able to have her meal free as long as I came with her as a paying customer. But they keep changing their rules on the free birthday meal so I recommend calling to confirm the policy before you arrive. This is the first i have been to this hotpot. I am a hot pot enthusiast! I love anything that will have soup and meat in it. Interior: Pretty nice interiors. It's a lot of booths and on the center area there is a conveyor belt of ingredients. We weren't seated there but it's okay. Service: Good service, meats and other ingredients came on time. Soup as well. The best server was the first guy who greeted us he said he was new but he was very good at explaining to us what we need to do to the ipad ordering system.
