Located inside Lotte market! I was in the mood for sushi, and saw how fresh they were. I got king salmon roll, and spicy tuna. Very tasty and fresh! My 2nd trip, I brought my guy and he got the roll with eel sauce and a huge roll with avocado in it. I forgot the name of it, but it was good. They have a small dining area, but it fills up fast. Their Korean soups are popular so that's on my list. Staff are very nice. They also have other restaurants adjacent to them. The Kbbq chicken place is good too. read more

Have eaten here a few times and every single time, the prices have increased! For instance, a year ago, the Bulgogi Beef was $17.50. But now it is $19.99! Same with the other food items, they have all increased by $2-$3, each! Food portions have stayed pretty much the same, though. I can say that the service is quick. The sitting area is so-so, with only 3 tables available in the small store. Cold and Hot water are accessible for drinking. Today (5/29/23) was a good dine-in experience for Memorial Day after doing some grocery shopping inside Lotte. Maybe next time, try some other food items if there's an opportunity to eat at this food court again. It's def not easy to find a good Korean place in the G-burg area, so when I was hankering for some and needed it quickly while in the area, I def couldn't resist a stop: Seafood Pancake - Had a decent amount of seafood and scallions, but could've been cooked a tad longer because it was soggy and fell apart with every piece we tried to pick up. Ja Jiang Mian - Sauce was bone cold, so it didn't seem like they cooked it right away, but rather had it pre-prepped. Overall good taste and decent amount of onions, potato, zucchini and meat in the sauce (noodles were Al dente...heyy). Pork Tang Soo Yuk- I'm not sure what I missed but they completely forgot the sweet and sour sauce, I just got fried pork with some julienned carrots & zucchini. Galbi - at $32, I was at least expecting a quality marinade and decent portions, but this was about 3-4 slices cut up into about 12 pieces to make it look like a lot. The marinade was barely there, which made us quite a bit disappointing. There was a s-ton of MSG (I get migraines from excessive MSG) and I was sure spinning after this meal. Some items seem worth it here, but most def felt overpriced for the quantity and quality we received (if we're comparing to other restaurants of this kind and style in the DMV, I'm sorry). If you're strapped for time and craving Korean, then I might go here but stick to their soups/stews and eat there, don't carryout. read more

The food here is excellent. It takes 15-25 for an order. You can shop while you wait since it's located inside Lotte Mart which is a Korean grocery store. The menu is varied. Everything I've tried has been excellent and the portions are excellent. A lot of people come here just for the food when they're not even food shopping. That's how popular it is. Unlike other food stalls located inside Korean grocery stores, a lot of non-Koreans come here. I needed a sushi platter at the last minute, so I tried sushi from this place for the first time. I wasn't sure about their food, but they had good reviews and reasonable prices. I don't quite remember which platter I ordered, but I was very satisfied! First, they had my platter ready in an hour and thirty minutes, and the fish seemed so fresh! The fish-to-rice ratio was perfect, and the rice was well-seasoned. I've ordered sushi platters from different nearby restaurants, but despite this being from a small restaurant in a grocery store, I loved their sushi the most! Avery is a great place to cater your next Korean food party. We hosted a dinner party of 12 and everyone just enjoyed their meal. From the tender and flavorful galbijhim, enormous amounts of chop chae, excellent homemade mandu (you have to ask Nicole for home made ones), to great pork tang so yeok (sweet and sour pork) to hae mul paejun and kimchi it was just fantastic. It was homemade like your mom or halmoni would make. Next time though I will have to add a sushi platter. It would have been the icing to a wonderful meal. For anyone looking to get Korean food catering in MoCo, this is the place to order! This little gem is located in the Lotte Plaza Market. Turn right after walking in- very easy to find. There are plenty of parking. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. I ordered the Spicy Cabbage Short Rib stew. It was delicious but not very spicy. It came with a side of rice 3 Korean sides. I think the sides varies but this time they are kimchi, spicy pickled radish, spicy asparagus. Everything was delicious. You can also place sushi for Ichiban-Mikoshi Sushi at the samw location. I ordered the veggie combo which came with 3 rolls- all were on par. Definitely would like to return to try more items. UPDATE: I went back and ordered a few items. Going to preface this review by saying I'm giving Aery a 4 which is an average of the ratings I would give it for the 2 separate occasions I went for. The first time was as part of a Yelp Elite event (thanks Mike B.!!) and I got the 5 piece soy garlic wings. SO CRISPY. Check out my first 2 photos. I got them for takeout and these wings were STILL crispy when I got home. And they were so juicy inside, I was really impressed. Way better than bonchon, I said. The second time, I brought David with me. We got a whole spread - dumplings, jaja jang myeon, seafood pancake, tenders this time (soy garlic and spicy). It was a LOT of food yes :). Not as great of an experience this time, I thought. Granted, I think a lot of this could have been due to the fact we got it as takeout, but surely after my first experience with Aery I didn't think it would be a huge issue. Jja jang myeon: I had high hopes for these noodles. I wasn't a big fan of the sauce - the jajang mian I'm used to typically is black bean based, when I opened their sauce, I was disappointed that it was clumpy, oily, and the flavor didn't taste like black bean at all. It tasted a little sweet, and the texture was off. When mixed with the noodles, I thought it tasted bland, even though my noodles were drenched in the sauce. I also had a lot more sauce than I needed. Seafood pancake: Yes it was soggy, but I got it for takeout so I knew what to expect - but it was also bland. The sauce that it came with helped a little to dip it in in terms of flavor. But the shrimp and octopus wasn't seasoned. Although, the portion it came in was HUGE. Dumplings: Decent, standard dumplings. The tenders: They just weren't as crispy this time. I wondered if it was because they were tenders and not wings. They were a lot bigger than the wings, but flavor wise just not as satisfying as the wings I had. The spicy wasn't spicy, it was actually kind of sweet. Overall, would definitely recommend the wings over tenders. P.S. we were definitely eyeing their sushi while waiting for our food, might try that next time! read more

Compared to anything I've gotten at a stall in an Asian Supermarket, Aery stands leagues above. Compared to anything I've gotten out of a Korean restaurant in the MD Burbs, Aery stands pretty darn high! I just moved to Gaithersburg this past week and have been exploring Yelp with a whole new lens, and whilst exploring I run into Aery! Just 2 reviews at the time, and both of them rated it very highly. So I head over with a friend and go to town. Like Abegail said, right when you enter it's to the right. The young woman at the counter was super friendly. We ordered the: Seafood Soon Doo Boo Jigae: Spicy. Soft tofu stew with mixed seafood and vegetables. Served with side dishes and rice. (I asked if I could do this with just shrimp instead of the melange of seafood- she happily obliged) Yook Gae Jang: Spicy. Spicy shredded beef stew with vegetables and sweet potato noodles only for take out and egg drops. Served with side dishes and rice. L.A. Galbi and Seafood Pancake (Jeon) And we ate-ted: All of the above with much enjoyment and enthusiasm. The Soon Doo Boo was beautifully flavored, brimming with chunks of tofu, miniature shrimp, 1 full size shrimp I found on the second day of eating it, and zucchini and seasoning. The LA Galbi was quite good. A LITTLE chewier than I would have liked, but the flavor was quite good and the portion was decent compared to Galbi's I've had in the past. The seafood pancake was the winner for me. The portion was huge, cut up into pieces, it filled most of a large square clamshell box, and the dipping sauce was everything... literally that sauce was everything. I almost cried the next day when I went to eat the leftovers and spilled the little remaining sauce all over the floor. Next time, I'll ask for two small sides of sauce with it hahah. Banchan that was served: Pickled radishes, kim chi, bean sprouts, and generosity. Uhh... what? So we did a little shopping while our food was being prepared, and we came back to pick it up, the kind young woman at the front asked us if we'd ever had acorn jelly. Both of us we're like.... uhhh.... we don't think so. Well, she explained what it was, told us a little bit about the restaurant and it's sister restaurant and threw in a banchan of acorn jelly. Apparently, it's a special thing that they only have sometimes, and it came over from their sister restaurant (Ichiban) that day. All in all, I can see myself being at Aery like REAL soon. Lotte isn't my favorite Asian market, I find the produce section to be a bit... not as fresh. But I will CERTAINLY be back for Aery. Honestly, I can't wait. read more

Serving a variety of Korean food (KBBQ, soups, KFC, rice, and sides), Aery is the sister restaurant of Ichiban in Gaithersburg (near Costco). Located immediately to the right of Lotte when you walk in the doors, there are a few tables for those who wish to dine in. When I came to pick up my KFC and tofu soup, I saw another food stall nearby with sushi being sold. Everything looks so fresh! I'm looking forward to checking out Aery Sushi soon. So far at Aery, I tried the whole fried chicken with spicy sauce and the seafood tofu soup. I thought the fried chicken was pretty good. Would have liked it to be crispier and spicier, though. Maybe if I got the sauce on the side, it would have be crispy. Definitely a lot of chicken! The tofu soup was also good and came with a decent amount of seafood and vegetables. I do wish we could add a spicy level to the soup. I guess I could have asked! The two side dishes also came with a side of radishes (which I enjoyed) and kimchi (surprisingly wasn't a fan as it had an aftertaste to me). If you decide to order your food online and pick up, I suggest ordering directly through the restaurant's website. From their opening till now, their customer service has been great and food very yummy. We've tried several dishes on their menu. Mackerel set, soon dae, jjam ppong, jja jang myun, fried chicken, sushi, jok bal. I love their jjam ppong b/c it's SPICY! You can choose less spicy, if that's your preference. The soondae is very delicious. I think it's as yummy as Seoul Soondae and I don't have to drive to Virginia to get it. We often order sushi platters for parties and it's always so fresh and delicious. The gentleman working on the sushi side is very friendly, which is a plus. Our relative ordered for a gathering in Fairfax and one elderly family member who does not normally eat much, said it was the most satisfying meal. I actually tried their Korean food prior to ordering sushi and I am a fan of the seafood pancake and the Korean fried chicken. This place is INSIDE of the Lotte but it's right at the entrance so you can't miss it. They also serve black bean noodles which I need to try later. They have other 25 different types of platters and I'd recommend calling ahead of you have a big order or are ordering during the holiday season. I love this place because they offer the option to have full-cooked sushi which is great for the little kids or people who can't handle raw fish. I ordered the deluxe California rolls ($100) and the Mixed Roll Platter ($115) and it even came with miso soup! The sushi was high quality, no fishy taste, and was super creamy and delicious (for the cali rolls and with those with avocado). These platters were a hit at the party and will be my absolute go-to restaurant for catering. For non-holidays I believe you can order it on the same day and it'll be ready in 2-3 hours but call and double check when you place the order. I've been wanting to try Aery since it opened and I finally was able to try it as takeout today for lunch. I was so excited and really hoping my lunch would be super tasty. Unfortunately, I am a little disappointed with the food. I got the jajangmyun and spicy wings. Since Aery is advertised as a restaurant, I had higher expectations than those stores you would see inside a market. The jajangmyun noodle was okay, it looked like regular frozen yakisoba noodles. The sauce was bland and not much flavor. It came with a lot of sauce so that's good. The thing that put me off was that there was a weird smell from the jajangmyun. After sampling each ingredient I realized it was the shredded cucumber they added. It had an old oil smell. It smelled very stale... I couldn't finish my dish. Even though I ordered spicy chicken, the chicken was not spicy at all. It tasted like sweet sauce. If bonchon spicy is 10 then aery's spicy chicken is a 1. Not sure if I got the wrong sauce. It came with some white radish but this radish also tasted stale. It has an aftersmell. Living in the dmv, I've had enough korean food to know how something is supoosed to taste or smell. The radish that came with aery was definitely not fresh. Overall, I really wanted to love this place but I'm scared to go back. Their menu has traditional Korean cuisine you'd find in sit-down restaurants (seafood pancake, broiled fish, stews), Korean style fried chicken (several varieties) and sushi. I ordered the Jajangmyeun (black bean sauce noodles), which came with kimchi and yellow pickled radish. The portion was enough for 2 meals. The thick yellow noodles had the right amount of chew, and was covered in a heaping amount of savory black bean sauce (with onions, potatoes and pork). Luckily it was not too salty. I had ordered half spicy wings and half garlic soy. Scallion Pancake - Enormous! Enough to feed 2 people. A little bit oily but it's delicious. What a hidden gem, but I am glad I stumbled on to their restaurant through one of the delivery apps. They had a nice picture of broth bone soup and I had to get it. Since then I was hooked! This place is located INSIDE lotte! Big parking lot for all the grocery shoppers, but when you hang right, theres a small little cafe. You can see a huge sign for Aery! I got my same bone broth soup (cold weather calls for soup) and as I browsed next door, there was sushi already made. I looked at the ingredients and they looked good! You can order from either restaurant using their online ordering service, which is very convenient when you want to mix and match. The wings were sizable and the soy garlic sauce was my favorite; I also ordered the spicy wings, but the sauce didn't quite live up to the name--not sure if they gave me medium on accident, but I didn't mind, still good. Flavors were similar to what you might get at other Korean fried chicken places nearby. The sushi hits the spot and I would recommend it if you're craving sushi but don't want to break the bank. Stopped by since it was only 5 min away from work. Ordered 20 wings and went grocery shopping. The regular fried is quite good. The mild is more of sweet/salty flavour, no mild kick. Don't get me wrong though, it's great and perfect for tricking people who can't eat spicy to try at least a "mild". The one down side in my opinion is that the size is quite small compared to other korean fried chicken shops in this county. It is perfect for a snack unless you have a small stomach. The size ( see pictures ) was consistent through both orders. It didn't help that the wings were placed in a large box as well, raising false hopes that the wings were going to be bigger. This is more of a side dish to accompany the other main dishes provided there or eaten with a side. I haven't tried the whole chicken but perhaps it can fill my stomach as a proper meal next time I try it out.
