Was here yesterday for a baby shower. It started with the water in our glasses being warm. We all had wilted salads and my roll was never browned and was doughy. There didn't seem to be anyone checking up on things. The entrees were good and were enjoyed. Someone at the table got a glass of seltzer and another got a soda. Neither of them could drink them. Cake was good but coffee was so strong and bitter that most couldn't drink it. Beautiful place but very disappointing. read more

Been to restaurants all around the globe so I know a little about food. Had a nice Mother's day brunch buffet here. Party of 8. Food and service was passable. Check came and there is a 20% tip added to the bill. Did not want to spoil the day for the wife by complaining in front of her but will never set foot in the place again. You can't force a 20% tip for buffet service. It's sneaky and rude. Overall they do a nice buffet but the tip poisoned our experience. read more

"That was first class!", "You really know how to throw a party". SLM catered my parent's 50th anniversary party, held in my backyard for 40+ guests. We ordered SLM's Deluxe Backyard BBQ. The staff worked patiently with me on menu options and setup . We asked for four help - 1 griller, 1 bartender and 2 staff - but we somehow had five (bonus). Uncharacteristically, it rained the entire time; the staff kept its chin up and adjusted accordingly. Some additional Some quick highlights and tips: Food was --very-- well received, exceeding expectations (five years ago, we held the 45th anniversary party onsite ). The food passed the tests of both sophisticated palettes and comfort foodies. Grilled items in particular stood out: shrimp and scallop kabobs, flank steak, even the dogs outclassed the typical store-bought hot dogs. TIP: let SLM use their charcoal grill, unless you have one, or are short on space. Folks also raved about the eggplant rollatinis, potato salad, tortellini salad, and penne pasta. Nothing fell flat. Staff was experienced and largely self sufficient. TIP: Appoint a single point of contact from your party to keep things going smoothly. My co-planners insisted on getting matching colored plastic, versus SLM's elegant plates and colored cloth napkins. This led to a lot more garbage to take care of, and disposables rarely stand up to hot grilled food. It didn't save any money either, and did not add much to the decore, as plates had to be stacked in one spot, then tossed. TIP: Use SLM's plate / utensil / napkin / glass package. A few misses: the cold antipasta course was originally missing. (SLM scrambled, but I think we ended up with a crudité platter.) The grill was supposed to come with a 12x12 canopy to keep food and grill shielded from the elements, but the crew did not initially plan on it; SLM scrambled again and got a (smaller) pop-up, fortuituous because it ended up raining (though I still ended up sacrificing some golf umbrellas.) Final TIP: Spend time planning the layout. This tip is not specific to SLM. I spent a lot of time planning the layout, and it was well worth it. Rented one large 20'x30' tent, and used three 10'x10' popups to create spaces, and to protect both guests and food from the elements. This all made the party feel like an "event". read more

We went to book our daughters Bat Mitzvah my wife left a 500 deposit to hold the date in swptember.(i never worked final.numbers) And we realized we had more people so we booked a different place.in the end of september we booked a bigger place.and asked John for our money back he said when he books the date he will refund our money.i have been calling up to today March 20 2017 He said he booked a shpwer and since its a smaller event he is sending us half of our money.This guy is an utter skam..for a referral.business is it worth taking a couple hundred bucks feom somwone that never finalized numbers.. I just had my daughter's bridal shower this weekend outside at the Spring Lake Manor in their courtyard. It was beautiful! Someone said they felt like they were in Italy with the background sound from the fountain! Everyone enjoyed themselves and told me how nice it was. The food was great and very nice service all around. Great place for an outdoor wedding too. They have the capability to do a larger wedding under their party tent with lots of room. I'm glad I discovered this venue and plan to use them again. read more

I went here this past Easter with my family and we really enjoyed it. The place was packed. We were sat down in the dining area, they have many dining areas too. Although we eloped, she eventually decided she wanted a big wedding reception after we returned for her family to celebrate with us. So let the planning begin... After researching many places, many options, we settled on Spring Lake Manor for a July reception (07/07/07 - how clever), and after the dust settled, I have to admit, it turned out to be a great choice. The owner, John (if I remember his name correctly,) is an assertive and aggressive cat, but I can appreciate that bc he keeps you on point and makes sure NOTHING falls through the cracks. The price of this event cost me approx. $3k. I don't know how steep that may seem to some of you, but I have to admit, I believe it was well worth it, even to a miserly individual such as myself. First, their normal minimum of people to serve is 100. The price is based on this head count. We only had 60 in our party, and John stepped outside the rules to accommodate us. (Thanks, John!) The price per head not only covers the ballroom for 5-6 hrs, the bridal sweet downstairs, and the meals, but also the champagne, the wedding cake, and an open bar for the duration of the event. Oh yeah, and my wife even got him to throw in the topiaries (hope I'm saying that right) for the tables too. The food was awesome and we were able to have a pre-tasting and were encouraged to bring up to 6 people for this, to help make our choices from the fairly wide selections of hors d'oeuvres to the actual meal. It was great service throughout, from the time we initially walked in to check out the place to the night we were leaving the reception. We were very pleased as well as our guests. One more thing to note, if you are stressed about your planning, check this place first. John has the hookup for anything you might want for your event - from limos to DJs to hotels, whatever, he can hook you up. I would recommend this place to anyone. Wedding, graduations, whatever... Correction, this whole deal cost me approx. $6k (I've been going through bank statements due to the upcoming divorce lol...) but I would still definitely recommend this place. read more

We had our Christmas Eve Dinner there. First we waited 20 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. Second the food: I had the Veal. It was dry and over cooked with the breading as hard as a brick no sauce??? My mothers order her Prim Rib as medium. It was blood rare. Hers and the other Prime Rib was to have a Horseradish Mayo, neither one did. My sister had order the dive scallops. Either the waiter did not place the order or the kitchen forgot to prepare the food. Her scallops arrived under-cooked and extremely hard. Let's talk about the singer. Instead of Christmas we had Broadway show tunes and ballads neither in key. When she sang Christmas songs it was with I gather with her family. Although the service was bad, we couldn't fault the waiter. He had about eight tables, had to bus his own dishes, and take and fill drinks. There was no managerial control at all. read more

My family has used the Spring Lake Manor for many events and parties, showers, birthdays, you name it. Saturday was my bridal shower and of course, we chose the Spring Lake Manor to host. And it was wonderful! Working with the staff at the Spring Lake Manor made the day effortless. When we arrived, they were very helpful in moving some things around and adding tables to accommodate everything we needed! The staff is always professional and friendly. The food is amazing and the place is beautiful. We didn't have a single issue or complaint. It was a perfect day (and stress free!) One of my friends even said to my mom, "this is the nicest shower I have ever been to!" And it was all because of the Spring Lake Manor!!!! read more

Just held a combined college and high school graduation party for our daughters here. What an amazing event. Worked directly with John who made everything easy. Pleasant to deal with and answered all of our questions. As for the event, the food we selected with John's help was absolutely amazing. People are still calling us about the food. The service was top notch. Leslie was in charge of our event. She and the team were on top on EVERYTHING! My guests commented that every time they took a sip of water on of the staff members was there to refill it. I can not say enough about how easy this was and how enjoyable the experience was. I will certainly be back! Hey lets face it, I have two weddings down the road! I have used them many, many times. They have catered both of my daughters' bridal showers at my home with table rentals included. They cater family parties. I pick up great trays of food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are honest, good people, and serve great food. The prices can't be beat, either. Use them for catering or private parties. They go out of their way. They provide linens and silverware if you need. One of the best values in our area. read more

For years our Local scouting district has been holding our annual fund raising dinner at the Spring Lake Manor and each year. Last week they again knock it out of the park with great service, beverage and food. They are easy to deal with on table settings and layout. I never got into napkin colors or table cloth colors but this year I did and was amazed at the variety of color choices. They quickly helped us select the right color matches. The sound system worked and they helped out with equipment for a slide show presentation. The value for a "thrifty" Boy Scout Group was perfect. If you planning a party or wedding...I would check them out! If we had a merit badge for banquets they would earn it. The Thunderbird District of Monmouth council will go no where else. Ended up in the ER after attending a party here. They had some Mac and cheese. I asked the server if there was anything in it, and told him that I have a serious shellfish allergy. He said no. I took a bite and tasted fish. I again went up and to confirm and the server said they usually on,y put chicken in the Mac and cheese. I obviously knew I didn't eat chicken. I went to another server and he confirmed that is was lobster Mac and cheese. The staff wasn't too helpful either, they offered me a glass of milk, which is laughable. So I had to leave the party halfway through and go to the ER as my chest was tightening and my throat felt swollen. Ridiculous that the server didn't know what was in the food. Especially lobster, as it's a pretty common allergy. read more

John the owner is simply amazing, he did all he could with my situation I started planning I was crazy rushed my daughter lives in Florida and I had 3 months to plan. Jeanine the Maitre D works her buns off, literally she didn't sit until everything was flawless. It was a little warm in there but with that said she did what she could to make it perfect. Cocktail hour so delish with such a variety. We added taco & mashed station really worth it. John was so professional & calmed me down the whole process. Don't try to ask anything about booking a venue here, because he will treat you as if he, is the one doing you a favor, by booking with them. They are NOT the only venue in town, people!! Had Mother's Day brunch here today. Table was roomy and didn't have to wait to be seated. Service was very attentive and nice. Food looked better than it tasted.All baked goods and desserts were commercial and not very tasty. Waffles were limp and soggy(my egos at home are better).and were served with commercial Auny Jemimas syrup. Scrambled eggs were eh.only had oil and vinegar for salad. Best thing was fruit platter. I just had my Moms 50th birthday at the Spring Lake Manor and it was WONDERFUL!!! The establishment is beautiful, the food is delicious and working with John and Kristen was effortless. John and Kristen we more accommodating then I could have asked for. They answered every tedious question I had from the time I booked till the day of the party. They worked with me with colors, seating, DJ, food selection, drink selection, decoration, cakes, and so on and so on! I was able to go into the room and decorate it the day of and by the time I arrived that evening with my mom my guests were already having a great time. I had one friend ask me if the hors d'oeuvre were the food for the evening because there was so much and it was so good she was full! When I told her no and pointed to the buffet she could not believe it. Before I booked the Spring Lake Manor I had done my shopping around for venues and to my surprise this was one of the most affordable. I suggest anyone who is looking to have any type of party make sure to look into Spring Lake Manor. I know that I will be planning many more events there! Recently there for a social event. Food and service was decent, the room was very nicely done. Unfortunately banquet mgr. kind of distant, cold-- she seemed a bit annoyed with any questions/requests. The owner barking at and berating his staff in full view of everyone, was disconcerting, and very unprofessional. Staff members who had been victims, were clearly (and understandably) upset & embarrassed, and were kind of off their game for the rest of the evening. read more

My daughter and new son-in-law were married and had their reception at Spring Lake Manor on Sunday, 7/3/2011. From the moment we walked in the door John, Janine, and their entire wait staff treated us like royalty. They knew what needed to be done and just did it. The change over from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to the reception was seamless and the food was outstanding!!! I cannot believe how wonderful the day was. If you asked me to find one thing that could have been improved on; I could not, everything was perfect. Our guests still rave about the food, service and how beautiful everything came out. I couldn't have asked for a better day. The Spring Lake Manor exceeded my expectations in every way. Leading into the day they worked with us and facilitated every detail. There really wasn't anything I asked for that they didn't make happen! We had our cocktail hour in the Atlantic Room and the wedding in the Main Room. The setup was perfect in both rooms. The cocktail hour food was amazing. All of our guests remarked on the food over the course of the night. Dinner came out efficiently and everything was seemless. The thing that impressed me the most about dinner was that it was hot. Sounds silly, but I've been to so many weddings where by the time the food arrived at the table it was lukewarm at best. The other thing I noticed was the portions. Many of our guests went with the steak. I had several remark that it wasn't a wedding portion (smaller) it was a real restaurant portion. People were stuffed. Everything was great quality. Leading into the wedding, Janine helped me with the centerpieces, gave us a ton of information we needed, and was a general help in every way. Because our centerpieces involved sand, we couldn't assemble them ahead of time as they would move in transport. Janine literally put them all together for me based on a picture I had shown her. I was amazed at this level of service. John also made everything easy. He was prompt to respond to all requests and honestly I think accomodated every one. We were able to pick a signature beer. I misunderstood when our count was due and everyone put me at ease and made it all work without any problems. The whole night was fabulous. A final note- I attended a wedding two weeks prior to my own. It was at a venue nearby that was more than twice the cost. The food, atmosphere, and general execution was NOWHERE near what happened at the Spring Lake Manor for us. Thanks to everyone there! read more

Recently had my daughters sweet 16 at SLM.... Could not have been more pleased with everything! John & Jeanine delivered on everything we spoke about. We booked the venue over a year before & probably only spoke a handful of times until the month before the actual event. And they always managed to remember everything we discussed prior. The staff was friendly, helpful & accommodating! I would recommend them 100x over. The only extremely minor thing that happened was a lot of the guests hadn't realized the cake had been cut... But that could have been because there was an ice cream bar as well, regardless, we could not have asked for a better night! My daughter was over the moon happy!! read more

The staff was very attentive and helpful, the food was good, the room was lovely, and we had many compliments from our guests on this choice for the meeting. I don't think you can do any better elsewhere for the price...very reasonable. The only problem noted was that some areas of the room were quite cold. We would book this venue again. read more

We had a Montclair Immaculate HS "Reunion by the Sea" luncheon on August 18, 2016. We had approximately 120 attendees. And, we had an excellent experience at the SLM. The pre arrangements were well planned by the owner, John Nagle. The room where the event took place was well decorated and nicely arranged and the table cloths and napkins were the colors requested. The staff was very attentive and polite. The food was very good and plentiful. Overall, the entire afternoon at the SLM was a very good experience. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone. Hello! I have never been compelled to sit down and write a review and post it online until my daughter's wedding at the Spring Lake Manner in Spring Lake, NJ. Let's start with the positives: the food was amazing Here's the bad news: that's the only positive thing I can say about the venue. My daughter booked her wedding about 3 months prior to the event. She was promised the ballroom and all the bells and whistles that go along with her amazing day (like she deserves). About 6 weeks prior to the reception, she got a call at work from the owner saying that his manager double booked the room, and that there was another party who was guaranteed the ballroom. He also told my daughter that the groom of the other party was just enlisted in the marines and was shipping off only weeks after the wedding. He began to tell my daughter, ":Don't worry, we will take money off per head, put you in a smaller room, I'll give you a free photo booth, 3 free shrimp dishes in the cocktail hour" and he assured her "that the day will be fine in the smaller room. He also stated that he fired his manager because of this. As fate would have it, my daughter is a barber. The next day, after he told her all of this, a client came walking into the barber shop. He saw a sign that said "We Will Be Closed For A Wedding on 05/**/14". He said "I'm going to a wedding at the Spring Lake Manner that same day!" So my daughter replied, "Oh, you know the Marine?" The customer chuckled and replied "He's not a Marine. He was many years ago, but hasn't been a Marine for quite some time." How would that make you feel? That you just heard a completely different story from the owner the day before... Flash ahead to the day of the wedding. My wife and I arrived at the Spring Lake Manner a little early that day. The owner started speaking to us as if we were employees. "Don't Stand Here! Get in this room! I can't have you in here!" Soon after that, we found out why he was talking to us that way. The smaller room that was given to my daughter for her wedding, unbeknownst to us, served as the cocktail hour for the bigger wedding in the ballroom until 6pm. My daughter's reception was supposed to start at 6:30...in the same room. How would that make YOU feel? 6:30 came and we preceded to enter the room. At that point, the room was only about 50% set up for my daughter's amazing day. How would that make YOU feel? As we sat there, a Met's baseball game was playing on the TV. I asked the bar tender to please shut the game off. He kindly did so. 5 minutes later, the game was back on. My DJ, who is a personal friend, was unable to set up in the room until 6:00pm putting major stress in his lively hood. At around 6:50pm the room was about 80% done. REMEMBER: My daughter's wedding started at 6:30pm.The venue misplaced her cake topper, only to be found after the photographer could take pictures of it. My daughter bought candy for the kids tables. They forgot to put it on the table until 7:30pm. The owner was nice enough to throw in a photo booth for my daughter's reception. It was located in ANOTHER ROOM. Guess what? There was another party in that room. Which means that all of our guests had to walk into another party, disturb them, and get our picture taken in a photo booth. He also told ANOTHER WEDDING that they could use the booth too! Believe it or not, I can go on and on. I'm sure I've bored you with all these details. Here's the reason for writing this: I do not want another couple to be subject to this treatment from this venue. PLEASE BE WARNED! Good luck to all. read more

We were here recently for my bridal shower. I really had no interaction with John (the owner), however my sister reports that he was so accomodating! He was flexible with the minimum amount of people and was very accomodating when we had to change our minimum 2 days before the event and didnt even charge us for those people! He was so helpful throughout the process and we were really impressed with the quality of the food. It was high quality food, a sit down meal for 30 people at such a great price! Had a bridal shower there for my sister in law, only positive thing was the food I would rate it 3 out of 5. When we arrived in the Atlantic room half the room was hot and half of it was cold. Air conditioning didn't work. The food came out and was gone in less than an hour. Coffee was cold. Guests complained about how they felt the food wasn't out long enough..The manager of the place short blonde women, very rude, stood in the room and patrolled,like if she was an officer. She watched us like if we were criminals. Ridiculous!! Not worth the money!The hostess started setting up for another party during our party. Very disappointing especially when you are paying these places to stay in business. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!! Go to the mill down the road! read more

Worst Easter Brunch ever! Omelet station had a guy who wasn't a chef making omelets didn't know how, dripping sweat, girl taking the omelet order and telling you it would be 20 minutes and delivered to your table. Never happened, I wouldn't have eaten it anyway. Buffets were not maintained and refilled, pastry table a joke with thaw and serve items very cheap. The service was not good either it seemed they all were not trained properly. Will never go back! Wasted $35 a head! read more

John sends the tables, plates, chairs, linen tablecloths, utensils, napkins, glasses and amazing servers.... Luke and Liz are incredible! 5 stars and highly recommend.... Spring Lake Manor catered the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding at our home. We had the deluxe barbecue for 50 people. All our guests raved about the food and service saying it was as nice as a wedding. We used Spring Lake Manor for our other son's rehearsal dinner two years ago. Three of the people working this event had worked the one we held in 2014. They all remembered us. We had a cook two servers and a bar tender. The weather was not with us, heavy rain, we had to move the bar from our deck to under the tent. Spring Lake Manor set up the two food tents close to the large tent to keep our guests from getting too wet. In the end the rain really had very little impact on the party. They worked with us for special menu requests - gluten and dairy free for a handful of our guests. They left my kitchen in near condition and packed all the leftovers. We also used Where's The Party At to rent tables and chairs and used their recommendation for a tent rental company. Any issues that came up were handled quickly during the rental process. I would highly recommend using these businesses for your event. read more
