This was my second time visiting The Spudder. Frankly, I don't remember a ton of details from my first visit, considering I was only 10-12 years old. My wife and I visited the restaurant on a date night the week before Christmas. Due to this being a popular time, we made reservations. From the moment we arrived, staff went out of their way to let us know they appreciated our business...to the extent that it felt like you had arrived at a friend's house for dinner. Service throughout the evening was top notch, and we enjoyed our meals. Since soup, salad, baked potato and rolls are served with the entrees, we didn't order an appetizer. Both of our steaks (filet mignon) were cooked perfectly and were appropriately seasoned. We were stuffed and not in the mood for dessert, but after hearing a detailed description of the chocolate mousse cake, we could not resist. It was incredible -- very fresh and moist! PS - I was glad to see that rolls are still served in antique, metal lunch boxes. That was one detail (along with oil memorabilia all over the walls) that I remembered from childhood. read more

They test the temperature of the meat with their bare hands and no gloves not a meat thermometer. There is cross contamination going on in the kitchen with raw and cooked foods. If a baked potato falls on the ground they will plate it still. Servers eat fries off the customers plates before they bring them into the restaurant floor to serve the customer. The vents above the kitchen are covered in grease and have not been cleaned thoroughly in a long time. They expect workers who could be COVID positive to come to work. Its all about the steaks at this place. This is the first place I visit when in town. You get a great meal at a reasonable price. All meals come with salad and their potato soup. Not to mention a lunchbox full of rolls. The service is also very friendly. I love that the manager/owner spots by every table to see how things are going. You must get The Gusher. A hidden gem for sure! Been there since the 1976 and the food is amazing! The stuffed mushrooms are cheesy and creamy! The KC steak was wood fired and served perfectly cooked! Had the spudder which was the first steak dinner I was unable to finish. The meal came with a cup of potato soup, fresh bread, standard salad, and finally the steak & french fries. We drove 9 hours to Tulsa for something and this was the perfect treat to celebrate getting out of the car when we arrived. The steak was juicy and full of flavor, cooked perfectly medium rare. The girlfriend had some kind of chicken which she liked, but I was just focused on eating as much of the steak as I could to remember what she ordered. Wanted to try something new for 27th anniversary. Not a good choice. Ribeye steaks were tender and cooked perfectly. Grilled shrimp were HUGE, eager to try them. Waitress was great. Sad, sad, sad, it all tasted and smelled like charcoal lighter fluid. My husband asked the waitress how the steaks were cooked, she said charcoal. We said we thought so because of the lighter fluid taste. She said they dont use fluid just cardboard. We spent $90.00 for 2 steaks and shrimp we couldnt eat. We tried The Spudder for the first time last night. There are a few pros and cons. The decor is pretty neat. It's a bit rustic. The staff was very friendly and attentive. A man came over to our table and visited with us for a moment. I assume he was the owner. I'm always impressed when they take the time to greet us personally. The appetizers were very good. The potato soup was boring and the salad was nothing special either. My husband's ribeye was very thin and overcooked. My pasta was quite good, but a rather small portion. The food is way overpriced. For us personally, the thing that will keep us from coming back is the fact that they serve foie gras. It's over priced for the quality. Bagged salad and small baked potatoes. 2. It smells old and run down 3. The bartender had a very melancholy disposition 4. The shrimp has absolutely no flavor and was tough 5. The rib eye - which the bartender was the best seller was tender with an average flavor. Nothing special. 6. The bill was $108.00 7. Spudders is an example of a restaurant on autopilot it survives on reputation and lack of competition. Based on decor and reception the place would be a decent family joint. I waited 5 or 6 minuets for the host to recognize I wanted a table. I stood at the bar and was ignored by the bartender until I asked if there was a hostess when a guy seated at the bar hopped up to seat me. They have an uncomplicated menu but outrageous pricing. This is Tulsa not NYC to ask $33 bucks for a Ribeye is fair if its dry aged and expertly prepared. The cool staff are the owners 2 sons and although they can grill they are not putting out this kind of quality. Money is not the question or the reason for the poor review. The place is deceiving from decor to menu I felt tricked into an overpriced and under-quality experience. The waitress was sweet once seated the pace was good. They have the basics down and the place was 70% capacity so business is good. Although over cooked my Pork Chop meal was passable. I only chose this place because it was on Man vs Food and find most of those places lacking some quality in product. Spudders was no exception. This was our first time eating at The Spudder. We started off with the mushrooms, they are stuffed with some sort of cream cheese butter deliciousness...I'm actually not even really sure, but they were good. The rolls are homemade and nice and hearty. We spilt the gusher ribeye $49.99 , it's cooked over charcoal and was seared properly and cooked to perfection on the inside. We did the spilt plate charge so we both got our own sides for an additional 10.00. Baked potato soup was good, typical side salad from a steakhouse and then a loaded baked potato. Not sure why you get to potatoes, but I don't mind some extra carbs sometimes. Everything was really good and a very casual atmosphere. The service was outstanding. We have been going for Anniversary dinner for years in July. This last time may have been our last. Salad lettuce was brown around the edges, about half as much as usual. The potato was not done, steak not hardly done. Rolls were late getting to table but they were great. And to top it off, AC was on the blink and very hot in dining room. The two of us went in on a Saturday night at 8:20. We were going to have a couple drinks and steaks at the bar. The door said they closed at 10, and we knew we'd be in and out within an hour. When we were sat at the bar the bartender immediately looked at her watch and then gave us a contemptuous stare. She came over, never smiled or said hi. My husband asked if it was too late to get dinner. She just asked, are you drinking? We said yes, and she walked off without a word. When she came back he asked again if was getting too late to eat, because he saw her check the time again. She said the kitchen closes at 9:30 and I'm just trying to get things cleaned up back here. Keep in mind that's a whole hour from now. She then asks, are you going to eat? Well... yes. She slaps a couple menus down and demands to know what we want to drink. No drink menus were given, didn't tell us her name. I got up to ask for a table instead of the bartop, but when we realized it was still her in her section, we left. I was a server for 10 years. I would have been fired immediately from my Tulsa steakhouse job if my manager heard i acted like this. This bartender was the rudest I've experienced. I bet some of you of out there know exactly who I'm talking about. I hope she was able to go home right at 10 pm because we didn't eat there, and don't worry about having to deal with us again. I was so surprised when I came to write a review that there were so many negative reviews. My mother-in-law has been going to The Spudder for years and has always had such great service. On a recent visit she took my husband and I and I couldn't have been more impressed with the service and experience! First of all, the décor is so much fun... Lots of memories of Tulsa during the oil boom. We were greeted promptly and from then on had a fantastic experience. Our waiter was the perfect blend of attentive but not hovering. I believe his name was Vincent. I thought the food was great too... For $23 I got rolls, potato soup, salad and then my salmon and asparagus. I thought the salmon was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I also tried my husband's steak which was great... but the star of the evening was the chicken breast. I will definitely try that the next time I'm in. It was just a grilled chicken breast, but the flavor was so good... definitely the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time. Reminded me some of Steak and Ale... just so good. I also thought their house wine was good and very reasonable at $6/glass. I literally don't understand how you couldn't have a great experience here... the place was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and the food. We went on Veterans Day for my husband. We stood there waiting to be seated while several employees walked by us several times and finally one stopped to ask what we needed and we asked to sit in the bar area and we were finally sat. OU was playing but they had another out of conference blowout game playing on BOTH TVs instead. We didn't get any silverware. We got there at 8 and they closed at 9 but the bar people wanted to leave I guess so they had the radio on and the servers and bartenders were singing and yelling at each other across the room and yelling at the football game and just being completely unprofessional. That's usually one of my favorite things about the restaurant is that it's casual but the food is amazing but this was beyond casual. We were trying to eat our over $100 meal and my husband got so frustrated we decided to take our food and go home. It was very disappointing because we had done everything he wanted for Veterans Day. It had been "his day" and that was how it ended. When he asked if they were doing anything special that day for veterans he got a curt "no" and the server walked away. No "thank you for your service" or anything like that. He even handed a note to the manager on our way out just letting him know how we were treated and the manager just read it and said "thank you" and we left, never to return. There were several other things adding to the situation making it worse but I'm stopping here. Don't go unless you want to be treated like you are insignificant and your money isn't wanted. Growing up in Tulsa, The Spudder was a very well known restaurant. But it took me DECADES before I finally tried it. We went there last Dec for a special occasion and I have been thinking about their food for the past year!! I had Ahi Tuna with the wine sauce which was delicious, so delicate & complimentary to the fish. Hubs steak was wonderfully flavored & tender. My wife had a KC Strip and I had the Ribeye. Both our steaks were about 3/4 of an inch thick. Thinner that estimated by waiter when ask. They tasted decent, but were not particularly tinder. At these premium prices, I expect a steak at least as good as I do at home on our grill. Disappointed. The baked potato was good as was the potato soup, but I came there for the steak.
