So first off you have to come here to see all the oil decor... I still look around and I have gone here many a times.. Sooooo first off realize that you need to come on an empty stomach.... Cause you are gonna get soup (try potato it is real potato soup) and salad... Then they have bread that they serve in old school lunch boxes... First time there I was like who and what and then was like wow that's cool. One of these days I am going to get to try the crab cakes, but we always get the stuffed mushrooms b/c they are really good.. And i mean you will want to spoon out the butter from the serving tray good.. Now i usually get the filet or ribeye and they cook it to order and man.. Just writing this post is making me think.... I should get the family and head that way now... So i would suggest either the burgundy mushrooms or the onion and shrooms to go with your steak. It's a nice little topper and is good. I wasn't too happy with the peppercorn/blue cheese the last time i got it.. but that could be b/c i was missing the mushrooms... OH.. oh.. almost forgot.. if you are a baked potato fan.. fully loaded kinda guy... Yup.. this is the place... I came here for dinner while on a work trip. For $32 I received a bowl of potato soup, salad, the freshest/softest dinner rolls that I could've ever hoped for, asparagus and a decent sized filet mignon. I was very impressed with the service, quality/taste/quantity of the food and it had a really fun atmosphere. When eating alone on road trips it can be awkward going to a steakhouse and sitting by yourself but here I was comfortable and welcomed and incredibly full by the time I left. Great classic steakhouse in Tulsa, OK. This was my first time in Tulsa, and its a much bigger city than I was expecting. There's a lot of oil drilling history here, and it shows. The Spudder is an old school steakhouse, with Midwest charm. The steak (gusher ribeye) was cooked perfect medium rare with a slight char on the outside. Each steak comes with a lot of food, so be prepared. Baked potato, salad and soup are all included. Rolls come in a metal lunch box. The wait staff and a manager were very friendly, and very helpful. Service was needlessly slow, tables stupidly small, and quality FAR BELOW the prices and reputation. Servier seemed lost and got two of the four entrees wrong. We ordered pasta, ribs, and a steak, but folks seated after my party received their steaks before us. After food was delivered (40+ minutes) the server disappeared. Quality was mediocre. Since starting our Keto Diet, we've been going to more steak houses. This one is a pretty solid choice. The ambiance is a bit busy, which I guess is part of this place's charm. The decor would appeal to someone interested in Tulsa's oil history. But, I'm not and I didn't come here for the decor, I come for the steak. Spudder has been around for 30ish years and is decked out to the 9s with petroleum memoribilia. This is probably why my dad likes it sooo much (well that and his love for red meat). You'll see mini oil rigs, Texaco, Aamaco, and a million other petroleum signs all over the place. After making and canceling 3 other reservations after finally deciding on steak for dinner (of course, this was decided over breakfast the day after Thanksgiving), Spudder was the winner! Before even ordering, the delicious, warm rolls are brought out to the table in a stylish old school tool box. With all meals, you're served a salad, potato soup, and a loaded baked potato (with all fixin's on the side). They have a lot of different steak options and numerous fish items as well. You can add on sauteed mushrooms and onions, peppercorn, or burgundy mushrooms for an additional couple of dollars. My steak was overcooked a bit, but other than that, everything was delicious. I skipped my salad and opted for tomato soup instead of potato which was great. Fairly moderately priced, the menu ranges from $15-$35 (for the large filet). The Spudder is not a real looker on the outside, but if you want one of the best steaks available in Tulsa in a casual setting, this place is hard to beat. It takes its name after a machine that was once used to start oil drilling operations, around which Tulsa gained early fame. You have to walk by such a creature to get in the front door (which is really the back door), but the thing is now in a fairly dilapidated condition. Once inside, though, one is treated to a wall to wall display of old oil company advertising memorabilia which is just plain fun. There's a good selection of bar drinks at the well and there's not a bad entree on the menu. It's not a place to wear a suit, but for one of the best steaks in the old oil capital, with a delightful ambiance to boot, the Spudder is hard to beat. read more

Interesting restaurant. Kind of an eclectic atmosphere and an ode to the days of over decorated steakhouses. It is a little difficult to find because it's not on the main road and the signage is not well lit. Our server was great, she made the evening pleasant. We started our meal out with the stuffed mushrooms, which were good but weren't cooked enough. Then I had the potato soup, which I would not recommend. It was watery and flavorless. My husband had the Cesar salad and enjoyed it. For dinner I ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp, which was flavorful but overcooked. My husband had the Kansas City strip. It was a little overcooked, came as medium but he ordered medium rare. Sides were average but the dinner rolls were pretty good. The pricing was higher than what you would expect to pay at a steakhouse chain but well below a 5 star steakhouse, so if you need an interesting date night but don't want to break the bank I would recommend you give it a try. read more

I had read a lot of terrible online reviews of the Spudder, but went anyway because I had always wanted to go, having seen the sign for it since I was a child, and because they offered a Groupon a while back. Anyway, I'm not sure what the bad reviews are about. It is pricey, for a Tulsa steakhouse, but the steak was great and the service was good. The rolls were hot and delicious, the salad and house made dressing were good, the potato soup was just barely ok, but the rib steak was perfect, seared on the outside, juicy on the inside. Our waitress refilled our drinks several times and checked on us. No complaints really, aside from the prices, which I knew about going in. The decor is old signs and oilfield memorabilia and the waitstaff are dressed down in denim and overalls, so the ambience may not be for everyone, especially when you're out for a $30-$35 steak occasion, but I am more interested in the food than how fancy it is. Anyhow, I'd go back if I had a discount of some kind, but I probably wouldn't pay the normal prices, even though the food is good, because I'm sort of cheap. If you're ok with an $80 dinner check though, it's a pretty good place. read more

Choice quality steaks at Prime prices. My KC Strip did not look or really taste like a strip. My companion's small filet mignon was truly *small* and did not have a high quality taste. The included potato soup and dinner salad were what I would expect at Denny's or Waffle House. While I'm sure the oil can memorabilia decor was popular 40 years ago when Tulsa was "the oil capital", it looks tired. In their defense everything looked clean and service was okay. Arrived about 15 minutes later, signed in with attendant, who again stated a 30 minute wait. Upon awaiting for a table, at the 45 minute mark, we observed the attendant seat a couple ahead of us and two other couples that had checked in prior to them... because the couple complained "I guess your 30 minute wait time was wrong!"...We were finally taken to a table at the 1 hour and 5 minute wait time. A waitress arrived fairly quickly, and asked what our drink order was going to be. After my wife quickly grabbed the drink menu to find the brand of wine she was going to order, the waitress hastily stated she would go get two glasses of water and be right back. When she arrived with our water, she placed them on the table and hurried off before we could even utter "we'll take a glass of..." We proceeded to see her work several tables around us over the next 15 minutes, giving plenty of "time" to the other patrons without returning back to us for even a drink order. Needless to say, we grabbed our jackets and walked out approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes into an abysmal night without placing an order. The food that we saw looked good... but we were definitely not willing to drop $200 for dinner, a couple drinks, and tip just to see if the food justified the horrific service! read more

One opinion you have since the portions are big, they let you split your main dish for a $10 charge but they give you another potato soup, salad and potato, which comes with the meals. My husband and I loved this place! Overall the food was delicious. The restaurant is a little shabby looking on the outside, but adds to the nostalgia of a simple restaurant doing what they do well. The staff are all quite friendly and chatty, always checking up on us and making sure we were happy. We were seated right away and you are inundated with antique signs and logos of gas stations like Conoco and Mobile. We loved that they bring you melt in your mouth rolls in a metal lunch box. I would agree that it's not a cheap steak place, but you definitely get a good deal for what you pay for. You get soup and salad and a baked a potato, NO OR....they want you to eat and they want you to eat good! I opted for the filet mignon because it was a smaller option and my husband got the ribeye. Man, I should have went with what he got. Not that mine was bad, but boy was his tasty. The ribeye melted in your mouth much like the baked potato. Man, they even got the butter to soak all the way into the skin on the bottom of the baked potato. Hubby asked for his steak medium and I asked for mine medium rare and both were cooked to our liking. Oh and you should have seen the look on my husband's face on his first bite of steak. We were recommended by many people to try The Spudder. The atmosphere is casual, fun and authentic... But the good news stops there. I ordered the filet and while it was a nice cut of steak and cooked well, it was basic and simple for the price. The restaurant is very expensive and there was nothing special about my steak or sides. A sad salad and a plain baked potato are poor accompaniments for a $50 price tag. If you want a good steak, try mahogany, Flemings, Polo Grill... You won't have to pay more (or much more) and you'll absolutely get a meal with bold flavors, creativity and beautiful plating. read more

Walking into Spudder has the feel of a swap meet with so much oil-era memorabilia on the wall it makes it hard to concentrate. Nostalgic? Maybe. But I found the decor to be more kitsch than anything else. Kind of like the rolls served in a lunch box instead of a basket...I'm sure those have been washed once, maybe prior to painting them at the factory. The service left a lot to be desired, but the kid was trying pretty hard. Chalk it up to being new and give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt in that department. The food was okay but really nothing to write home about. Irony noted in writing on Yelp about it instead. The steaks did not come out cooked as ordered for anyone in our 5-person group, which is a death blow for a steakhouse. Each entree comes with potato soup and salad, the latter of which was so drenched in dressing it was inedible. We definitely did not feel it was worth what we paid. The drinks...just need to mention that the wine by the glass I ordered was gross. Not sure if it started that way or the bottle had just been open too long. But this isn't the kind of place with a sommelier to discuss it with. The Spudder was billed by a local friend as must-hit while in Tulsa. Tucked away off the main street this place screams out oddity. The timber front doors, as thick as 6x6 fence posts and extensive gasoline themed interior just help with this bizarro atmosphere. A nice local steakhouse that has a meat counter within the restaurant where you can pick out your cut of meat if you choose. Great service especially considering they make the male staff ware coveralls, though the female tight red t-shirts and black skirts weren't that bad.... Was here with a group of 20+ from work and had a great time. It was nothing fancy, nothing memorable, but nothing terrible - hence the 3 stars. If they had beer on tap I'd give four for sure...I am not a fan of bottles, but I'd go again when back in Tulsa. read more

Probably the best meal I had when I was in Tulsa. I ordered the well know "Gusher." I had to ask them to fire up my steak again because their version of medium rare was too rare for me. I had left overs and was able to make sandwiches with the leftover steak and rolls. I was going to take them on the plane going back home but I couldn't resist, I finished them as soon as I got back to the hotel. The place was a little bit hard to find at night because the restaurant doesn't have any neon signs on the actual restaurant. There's a huge lit sign that points to the right but it didn't help. I first came here two years ago while I was on a trip here for work.... Loved it then... I had a porterhouse and it was cooked just right!! I told myself I'd be back with out a doubt... And here's what happened. I don't know what I was thinking bringing my girlfriend here... She's not a big meat eater. Lol but the owner was awesome and came over and sat and talked to us about our options. She ended up having the Alfredo, which was way more than she needed, and we had some pretty good rolls as well. For me, it was a ribeye. Which was awesome and cooked just fine. The decor is all oilfield and oil companies, and oil cans, and I gotta say I love it!! Lots of flavor with a crisp exterior, they know how to prepare a steak. The rolls, salad, and sides are all below-average and mainly there to serve as a change up from the main course. The reason I have this place rated at only three stars is the very high price point. For a 12 ounce ribeye you will be set back $42 or so with tax and tip. We decided to try this steakhouse for my brothers birthday. I ordered the porterhouse and so did my brother. My husband ordered the ribeye "gusher" and they were cooked right. The steak knives they give you to tackle over an inch thick steak does not cut it. The steak was good and seasoned well. I had the fries which were just average. The first course was potato soup which was pretty good since it didn't look all that appetizing. But I finished most of it. I didn't want to ruin my appetite for steak. The salad was ok just like any other you can get anywhere. We ordered desert and I had creme brûlée and my husband had carrot cake. He said the cake was pretty good and my brûlée was good too.
