Wow this place is a meat lover's paradise. A REAL guy's restaurant. With dishes like the 2 meat combo, 3 meat combo, and 5 meat combo how can it not be?! To the Yelper who recommended they add steamed kale to their menu, are you kidding me?! Oddly I think he's serious. I ordered the 3 meat combo and it did not disappoint: my selection was sausage, turkey, & brisket. All three meats were terrific and absolutely melted in my mouth. Plus, the texas bread was great too. I don't know what they put in it but wow was it addictive (Maybe crack cocaine? Heck Juarez is right next door). I think honey gives the bread its super sweet taste. Although I didn't pick up my tab I did notice prices seemed to be very reasonable. The same thing would probably would have been 33% more expensive back home. By the way, don't listen to the bozo's who say this place is only for the tourists. It's true I'm from out-of-state but this was the first place my business associate took us for dinner when we arrived in town. He's a true blue Texan, born and raised in El Paso, and this is one of his favorite BBQ restaurants. The food is absolutely wonderful here. A tad over-priced (IMO) for just one or two people, but the pricing is great for groups. The Cole Slaw is AMAZING! The interior of the restaurant is decorated like a true Texas BBQ joint, however, there is not a lot of walk space. The tables are so close together, so when the place is busy it makes moving around a real pain (this is why I cant give it 5 stars). If you have kids, this is NOT the place to bring them. read more

Came here for the first time as an out of state resident getting ready to move to El Paso. Wanted to get some good BBQ beef ribs because of the Texas reputation for them, but was a little surprised El Paso didn't have too many BBQ places. I was hesitant at first because of the Mixed reviews, but let me tell you; State Line makes some GREAT food. I ordered the two meat combo, with the marbled brisket and a beef rib, and they were both very flavorful and tender. The only reason I take off a star was because I expected my brisket to come in slices but was instead broken up and kind of mushy--but it still had a great flavor. The Rib was cooked PERFECTLY and was fall off the bone tender with good flavor and a good sauce. I even liked the cole slaw, and im not a fan of cole slaw in general. Finally I had the Bread Pudding for desert; it was EXCELLENT. It was huge enough for two people and had a great sauce and ice cream on it. The best gosh darn BBQ in this whole town! The smokey, enormous beef ribs combined with a homemade loaf of bread are to die for. Don't stop at the ribs, you cant go wrong with ANYTHING on the menu. While someone in your party might be chowing down on hearty BBQ, you could opt for a great plate of salmon that could feed two. If you want a little of more than one thing go for the mixed platter, with 3 meat options. Or you could start out with the sampler platter that gives you all the meats on one plate (including already cut beef ribs to keep you and your face clean). I tried this place because of some of the good reviews. Bad mistake! First off, it smells like old carpet. I got the brisket and beef ribs. That one reviewer was right, it tasted like propane! Authentic Texan barbeque! Loved it! The restaurant is not hard to find cuz its basically along side the main road. Parking is not a problem. They have a cool ambiance, old classic theme. They have a wide space outside with stage for bands or live performances. They have a huge space inside good for group visitors or parties. They offer great foods! We ordered baby back ribs platter and platter of beef and pork ribs. Oh boy let me tell you, it was really gigantic! It comes with sides of mashed potato, coleslaw, and beans. The bread was served freshly baked. We literally enjoyed our sumptuous dinner. We weren't able to finish it, so we took some home. The price wasn't that bad. 23$ for the baby back ribs platter and less than 30$ for the beef and pork ribs platter. So it was really worth every penny. The service was fantastic, We didn't wait a long time for the food. The server was snappy, very nice, and polite. He knew what we needed. Ok I already know I'm going to get yelled at by my family for this review, but I'm afraid that the State Line is a classic case of looking back with rose colored glasses. It is a good, dependable BBQ restaurant. But it is as spectacular as one remembers from their childhood? Not for this Yelper. Read on to find out why. Service: 5/5 Ok this is the bright spot. Our server was great. He kept our water glasses full (one of our biggest issues,) took our order promptly, got our food to us quickly, and was generally helpful all evening. Gotta give credit where credit is due, and in terms of service, State Line hit it for us that night. Food: 3/5 Ok, here's where my family will flog me. It's good BBQ. It's just... not spectacular in any way. I got the five-meat sampler to get a taste of everything, and it was mostly good. The beef rib was tougher than shoe leather, but beef ribs are tricky to cook, and I'm not a big beef rib fan anyway. The turkey was overly dry, but still tasty. The rest was... passable. The only item that stood out to me in any way was the smoked sausage. That stuff was pretty darn good. The sides and extras were also completely uninspiring. You have your usual BBQ sides of baked beans, cole slaw, and potato salad. All good, all edible, and all completely boring. Oh, and that bread I loved so much as a kid? Yeah they charge extra for it now. So if you don't want to pay for it, you get these little yeast rolls instead. That was a major disappointment. Overall Impressions: 4/5 The atmosphere hasn't changed a bit. When I walked in the door, it easily could have been fifteen years ago. And that's fine, because it works. So why only a 3-star rating? I'm sure I've eaten here. I lived in El Paso for half my life. We went last night with my siblings and spouses and mom. The wait was not even long enough to finish a beer. 3 of us shared the 5 meat plate and the k-bobs. Beef ribs, pork ribs, peppered turkey, cheddar jalapeño sausage were all good. But the k-bob steak was delicious. It was a little sweetened and cooked perfectly. The mushrooms were also tasty and they de-skewer (I'm sure that's a word) the food before they bring it to you. Very over rated. If you are new to El Paso you will hear a lot about this place. It is not even in top 20 barbecue places in El Paso and you will be very disappointed in the food especially for the prices you pay. Our entire table tried all the meats and the best was the sausage, which is average at best. The ribs were tough, flavorless and dry. The sides (beans, cole slaw and potato salad) were not good either. I was hoping for a decent margarita at least and that was watered down and not good at all. Unfortunately the service was just as bland and average, at best, as the food. Pretty much every other barbecue place in El Paso is better (Smitty's, Smokey's, Famous Daves, etc) and costs so much less. I was not impressed with this restaurant. I had heard from a lot of people that it was a good place to eat and after a year we finally went. I had the 3 meat plate with sausage, baby backs and 2nd cut brisket. I am an avid home grilled and BBQer. I have BBQ extensively, a classic warning sign at BBQ joints is the amount of sauce used as a crutch. If your plate is drowning in sauce it usually means they are hiding bad flavored meat. When my plate was set in front of me it looked like a stew there was so much sauce. It sloshed off the plate all over the table, a ridiculous amount of sauce. I started with the sausage, if I had only had the sausage I would have given 5 stars. It was excellent. Great smoky flavor, crisp snap to the skin, very moist inside, really quite good. Unfortunately I continued eating and had the brisket next, flavorless but moist, completely smothered in sauce. Ribs were last and I did not save the best for last. If I was a betting man I would say they were partially boiled. Again, flavorless meat that was either boiled or incredibly overlooked to the point of mush. Also again, smothered in sauce. Not good. My daughter had a bacon cheese burger, the bacon was so thin you could see clearly through it. The burger was ordered medium rare and was so well done it was tough to chew. My folks ordered prime rib, which was flavorful but over cooked. My wife enjoyed her kabob, the only satisfied diner. The servers were friendly and the host was exceptionally friendly and helpful with our reservations. Unfortunately the food did not match the servers. Great people, awful food. Food was alright, though my fiance's steak (prime rib, smoked) had very little flavor. Given it was $28, he was very disappointed. And to quote him, KFC has better coleslaw. Service was poor - server was pushy (asked if we were ready for the check while half our party was still very obviously eating, tried to make us order while the entire table was still looking at the menu) and the wait time was horrible. First and last time, we'll smoke our own ribs and feed 5 people for the cost of a single person plate. ETA: To add... we went for my sister in law's high school graduation. My mother in law slipped off to ask them to bring the complimentary ice cream scoop with a candle. We went through our whole meal and many of us finished with no sign of the dessert. Came here this past Thanksgiving. We were on a food tour across El Paso and of course State Line was on the top of the list. I tried the brisket tacos and I can honestly say they were comparable with Salt Lick (that's saying a lot)! I tried a beef rib and then bread was great. I wish there was a better dividing line that shows where New Mexico is and where Texas is. Also, I was disappointed thAt their Ice Cream machine broke and they never got it fixed. Went for dinner yesterday and received burnt food and rude staff. We ordered bread and wings for an app. I was going to order sausage and was asking if they still carried jalapeño cheddar sausage and the server didn't know. He went to ask and said "my manager said and I quote "we haven't had those in a loooong time"". My meal came out before the wing appetizer. The wings were so sour like they had been sitting in a brined of vinegar and were burnt. Not charred crisp...but burnt. We asked for them to be re-made without sauce thinking that would be better but it wasn't. The second order came out more burnt than the first. We won't be going back. We had lunch today at The State Line on the return trip from the airport, and it was delicious. We had 3 different items: beef brisket sandwich, the pulled pork sandwich and the sausage sandwich. If you are in the area, this is a great place for dinner. We were seated within 30 seconds on a Saturday night. Our waiter was attentive and we had our meals within 15 minutes. The Ribeye Steak was cooked perfectly as well as the baked potato. I didn't care much for the coleslaw or the beans, however, overall it was worth the stop!! I recommend trying the homemade bread. It comes out warm and it was yummy!!! Great place for a money worthy dinner. It's family friendly with enough room to celebrate birthdays. Haven't actually eaten the BBQ here. But I have been coming almost every week for the summer country concert series. And this place is soooooo fun! Good music, friends, beers, cool evening air- what more could you ask for in a summer night? So if you are planning on going on Wednesday night (concert night)- parking is difficult if you don't come early (before 7:30) but often cars overflow into the neighborhood accross the street. Usually this is easier for me but I always feel bad about inconveniencing the people in their homes on that street. Hopefully they are enjoying the concert so they won't be irritated! Bring cash!! it makes it so much easier to get a beer (they only take cash on the patio. if you don't have cash you have to muscle your way up to the bar) This place makes me want to buy some cowboy boots and dance! ps if I ever try the BBQ here I might give another star. read more

1st I will say, the driver to this event needs a gps, or at the very least the yelp app with the monocle - but that aside, after a long drive from our hotel to this restaurant, I finally got to hear what everyone has been talking about. The ribs at this place are delish. I tried the new Memphis style, and the sauce was finger licking good. The cole slaw was good. The potato salad was good. THE BEANS WERE GOOD. The sauce is outstanding, did I mention that? I almost took a picture of the plate but the rib carnage that was left on the empty plate was actually more disturbing in concept than necessary to show. I'm going to dissent. I don't like to, and I know that the locals will dismiss this as an outsider who doesn't know what BBQ should be. So, lemme get this out of the way: I've eaten and enjoyed good BBQ from one end of the state to the other, and I know what good meat tastes like. The ribs, sausage, and brisket plate that I had the other night was not great. Good, but not great. The brisket was very very lean, and tough. Too lean, really. The ribs were ok, not great. The meat was not tender, and there was silver skin that had been left on the ribs. The sausage, on the other hand, was tasty and redeemed the meal. The coleslaw was good too. Not too much mayonaise, and crunchy, so it hadn't been swimming in dressing all day. Service was a little lackluster, but that was not a big deal, I was just there to eat, not to dine. I got what I needed. Also, if y'all ever make it to Austin and think that County Line looks new and interesting, note that you'll have already eaten there if you've been to State Line. I was expecting much more than I got - in terms of flavor and flavor. The brisket was dry, the turkey was moist and good (and I didn't want it - I wanted the other 4 meats that came on my plate :) ) - the beef was ok - tender - but could have used more spice? as with the pork rib. And I think I prefer hot links to sausage - which ws cooked fine - I just was in the mood for something spicy...) the cole slaw was really good - and refreshing to the meat - but I don't really like potato salad or beans - so I only tasted them...was eh.... oh and I wished I had gotten the bbq sauce on the beef rib on the side - so I could have tasted just the beef - didn't go well on it for me - but went great on the pork ribs. read more

The State Line used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in El Paso. We ate here to celebrate our anniversary while in El Paso last week. Unfortunately, I think the food and the service are not what they used to be. I had the two meat combo dinner with brisket and turkey. The meat was good, but the cole slaw had a very odd taste and the potato salad was inedible. They also used to bring bread to the table, but apparently not anymore unless you order the large loaf. Our server seemed overworked and was somewhat inattentive, but nice when she did come around. I was also surprised to see that a gratuity was added to my bill when we had four adults and two children in the party. I hate when a restaurant adds the automatic gratuity. We probably won't be going back the next time we visit. read more

The parking lot is in Texas and the restaurant is located in New Mexico so the restaurant is aptly named. They offer a massive house Margarita for $9 that is perfect for sharing. It's not the best Margarita that I have ever had but it was acceptable. The decor is traditional Southwestern, family style with booths, red and white checkered tablecloths. it has a down home kind of ambiance. We split a full rack of Pork Baby Back Ribs which were rich and tasty. They offer a variety of dipping sauces that were delicious. The standard side of red beans and slaw were good, and the loaded baked potato was... well loaded with calorie ridden toppings! A prominent sign display reads "If you are on a diet, save it for eating at home!" Frankly, it's not the best barbecue that I have ever had and the average margaritas give the State line a 3 star rating. read more

My brother and I Dined at this establishment on Saturday 6/24/2017 and afterward decided that we will never waste our money in this restaurant again. I realize that I am talking about the weekend but we saw many empty tables at six PM and with what seemed to be a full staff we still had to wait thirty five minutes before the food arrived. About the food, my $27 (3" by 5") steak was really thin, less than 1/2", with more than forty percent fat but the small amount of remaining meat tasted good. instead of meat however, my plate was filled with coleslaw, baked potato and a cup of beans that tasted more like "out of can" chili. Not going to bore you with the description of the three meet plate my brother ordered except to confess that we could not find the third selection of meat no matter how hard we searched. read more
