Shannon is amazing! We had a delightful evening on Wednesday of this week with her at the inside bar. She was jovial and artful. I was dining with my husband and a dear friend, who can be a bit loquacious, and she handled all of us with grace. Our food was amazing. We started with hummus and the chili. Both were exceptional. My companions ate the burger special and the chicken appetizer. But my greatest joy, next to Shannon, was my salad with arugula, warmed pecans, goat cheese, macerated blueberries, and the grilled portabella. I am always amazed how great the food is at our local neighborhood spot. Above and beyond, I highly recommend that you sit in Shannon's section. She will offer impeccable service and is ever so patient, efficient, and graceful at her job. read more

Went for apps and drinks with friends on a Saturday night. Service was awesome, and space is really cool. Make sure to get the chicken tender appetizer. They are hand breaded and awesome. Have also been there on a Sunday for brunch and their Bloody Mary's are awesome, and the burger can be considered a hangover destroyer. read more

So there's this amazing waiter, his name is Ryan. He is friendly, outgoing, technically proficient, and very accommodating. A super nice AND knowledgeable guy. To me, Ryan, and a couple of great bartenders have been the saving grace of The Station. Initially I think they were using their amazing location, eclectic outdoor seating and fun menu to convince us to overlook the awful service, long wait times, and clear lack of any managerial/hosting presence. It has changed so much for the better. While the menu could have a few more offerings and the individual dishes could be a bit more substantial, all in all, because of Ryan and the bartenders, and what now appears to be a very present and accommodating manager, the Station is one of my favorite go-to joints. read more

Very poor. Sat down at 12pm. They cleaned the table from the previous party at 12:15. Then the server took our drinks order at 12:30. Ordered food at 12:45 and finally received it at 1:45. Then we were charged full price for our orders after we told he server we were not satisfied. read more

My husband and I live a few streets away and drive by probably every other day to get to work and other places so we were really interested in trying it out. Upon entering, no one greeted us at the door so we had no direction as to whether we were supposed to try to seat ourselves in the crowded dining room or wait for a hostess. There was a crowd of people near the bar seemingly waiting in line to talk to a young woman with a clipboard. My husband got in "line" to talk to her and she walked away without talking to him. While he waiting for her to come back, he asked another employee for a menu. Where was I the whole time this was happening? Dodging wait staff and other customers and trying not to awkwardly stand over other people sitting at tables. The entrance is crowded with a large table when seated, narrowing the walkway to the bar. The other side of the aisle is basically a wall created by an enclosed booth that looks really cool but seems to take up a lot of much needed space. By now, my husband was still waiting for a menu and the girl with the clipboard was back at the door, taking the names of customers who came in after us. We hear her tell them it will be an hour and a half wait (the large outdoor patio was closed because it was too cold). So we leave before a single waitstaff spoke to us. Overall, it looked like a cool atmosphere and what I saw of the food, cool presentation. But the layout of the interior dining room does not seem very well thought out - a small interior space crowded by tables causing terrible flow. Add to that the lack of customer service and there was little incentive for us to stay. We left and went some place that probably has less impressive food than this place, but we got what we expected: an immediate greeting, seating right away and food in a reasonable amount of time. We were probably done eating before we ever would have been seated at the The Station. I don't know if we'll bother giving it a second chance. read more

Nice open space, even dog-friendly. Nice inside bar as well. I have a fairly plain palette, so not much of the menu appealed to me. Not cheap either, but pretty much in line with similar places in the area. That said, the burger was amazing -- among the better ones I've had in my lifetime. We had a minor problem with one of the sandwiches and they were more than happy to take care of us. Staff, managers and servers -- including our waitress Carina -- were wonderful. The music playlist that night was a perfect set of turn-of-the-century rock. We stopped in just because it was the only nearby food option still open at the time, but we ended up really enjoying it. read more

My family and I have never left disappointed with the station, until we found out that Ryan is no longer with them! This is still a great place to go. They have an awesome atmosphere with cool outdoor seating, the best mac n cheese in the triangle, and some amazing people like the Manager Apryl! We love this place.... but Ryan made the station our favorite, go-to restaurant, and we would frequently travel more than 20 minutes just to eat here. We have recommended this restaurant to all of our friends and family members because of the awesome service, atmosphere, and food. Ryan made our family always feel like a priority and more than just a table to serve. But you could see him give the same great service to every table he had. He knew our favorites, our go-to drinks, and was always helpful recommending new foods to try. We have a special needs daughter that you may not know is special needs just by looking at her; still, she can sometimes say "off cue" comments that not everyone knows how to respond to; but Ryan always made her feel extra special and took the time to respond to her and make her smile! Both of our girls got a kick out of the happy face he would put on our to-go box. He was very attentive, helpful, energetic, absolutely amazing every time, and we will miss him greatly!!! Definitely a huge loss for the station, no one can replace Ryan! read more

Absolutely horrifying management. I went to brunch on Sunday at 1pm with three friends. There was no host/hostess. We were advised to scavenge for tables, which made for some seriously awkward moments because there are so many entrances, meaning it wasn't clear which party had arrived first. It took about 2 hours to get our food, and we had to effectively beg them to bus the table, beg them to order, and then beg them to actually bring us our food. The whole vibe was as if the restaurant was doing us a favor by serving us. I don't think it had anything to do with the staff as much as it had to do with absurd management. I asked one of the waitresses who owned the restaurant, and she didn't even know. I feel very bad for anyone who works here because they have essentially hired about 1/3 of the staff that they actually need. As for the food, it was decent, but after waiting two hours for it, who cares. The couple sitting next to us had the same experience, and as far as I could tell, so did pretty much everyone there. In short, you would have to pay me to go back to this restaurant. I look forward to the day it goes out of business so someone who knows how to run a restaurant can take over what is actually a nice patio. read more

I live in the neighborhood, and am a bit of a foodie, so was very excited when the Station first opened, thinking it could be a New Main Hangout. The restaurant itself it very cool - converted from a classic old service station, with good outdoor seating and a bar, nice decor, great location. Sadly, that's where it ended. I've been three times now, and each time, the food was average at best, awful at worst, and the service has ranged between passable and not really. Chili was repugnant, chicken mediocre, salads just barely good. There are a few items that they seem to do okay on, but honestly, for a restaurant right off of historic Oakwood, with places like Stanbury and Piebird and Glenwood and downtown nearby, I was totally underwhelmed. Maybe they're just selling it on the location and outside alone, because it's NOT the food and service. I truly hope they up their game, fire someone and/or improve their cooking and attitude, as I'd LOVE to make it a place I'd go to again. Until then, there are way too many other great food choices in Raleigh. Step it up, Station! read more

We were meeting a friend for eats, beers & conversation before heading off for music in Durham. Arrived a bit before 6pm; it was a nice early evening so we sat outside. Our server Jess said she was sorta new, but she handled our orders well. The 2 beer drinkers enjoyed the selections offered. We were able to have a decent conversation as there was little noise to talk over even though most tables were occupied. Friend ordered a burger, and it looked yummy! I almost ordered a burger, but for some reason didn't. Maybe next time. Husband ordered a station salad & wings. The salad was a generous size and must have been good since he ate it all. The wings were not outstanding (so he said). I ordered the smoked salmon BLT. Maybe I didn't really read the menu or it just didn't register, but when it arrived I was in heaven. It looked like a slab of salmon sashimi with bacon! It was marvelous! The Station is now in our restaurant rotation. I'll definitely go back for the salmon, and I just have to try the burger for myself. read more

I want to like this place. Nay, I want to love it. It's a neighborhood joint which has beautifully reimagined a former gas station which was in operation when I was a child. There is a lovely porch with outdoor fireplaces and you can bring your dog to dine with you outside. But good grief, despite several changes of kitchen staff and management, they just can't get it together. I remember the first time I ate there a few weeks after they opened. I ordered a Cuban and when it came to the table it had no pickles on it. When I inquired as to where the pickles were I was told that they didn't serve anything not made on site to which I replied "But it isn't a Cuban if there are no pickles on it". I steered clear of it for quite some time and have recently been trying to patronize it again as I walk my dog by every day. Last time I was there I ordered a beet and goat cheese salad. The salad arrived with no....goat cheese. The waitress was terrific and remedied the issue immediately. So that brings us to today. I ordered their special burger and said that I'd be happy to have it Medium Rare/Medium. When it arrived it was raw and cold on the inside. So I sent it back. The waitress then comes to the table and told me it was because I had asked for Medium Rare and that she had put the burger in as Medium this time. I told her that the burger had not even been cooked to Rare standards much less Medium Rare and that the problem was that the kitchen hadn't cooked the burger properly, not that I had ordered the burger the wrong way. I asked to speak to the manager, John. He was very nice and apologetic and agreed that casting blame on the customer and making excuses for the kitchen's error in preparation was not a very good way to handle it. He also offered to comp my meal. At this point, I was out of time and out of interest and I left without eating. This place will likely survive for a while based on alcohol sales and their lovely venue, but I am giving up this many years after their opening that they will ever get it together with their food service. read more
