Maybe I caught this place on a bad day as they were extremely busy but not planning to ever come back. The service, while very nice people, was very slow. Drinks were not refilled and the food was average at best... Honestly a bit below average with very little taste. I ordered the Game Board as an appetizer and the corn bread was burnt, solid like a hockey puck and the bacon was raw. When I told the staff, they stated that is the way it was supposed to be according to the kitchen. Helpful hint: when a customer complains, its best not to tell the customer that they are wrong. I will say the KY Burger was fresh and juicy but no real taste. Heard several other tables around me with similar complaints. Maybe just a really, really bad day but I cannot recommend anyone try this place. Two meals, one appetizer one drink paid way more then I ever should. $$$$$$$ read more

I wish I could give them a good review, it's a local favorite apparently and everyone said to go here. Problem is the service, we stood in a short line for 30 minutes before ordering, yet there weren't a lot of people sitting down and th kitchen had a ton of people cooking you could see, so not sure why it was so slow. What really ruined it for us was after I ordered, I immediately forgot something I wanted and tried to order again and the girl said "I'm, no sorry there is a long line behind you". Essentially telling me to go stand in line again. The people standing in line even said that was rude and couldn't believe it. The drink i ordered was a light pour mostly ice and it took another 30 min to get our food, which was just a couple of salads. So, to me it's just one of those places relying on tourists coming in and think they can act any way they want because there aren't a lot of other options out this far. Next time we will pack a lunch if we have to. read more

I had The Stave on my list for a while but never found myself in the area. Today we finally got to try it. With COVID, they only offer window service. I was glad there was a line because I needed time to decide on my food anyway. I had the Country Ham Biscuits with a side of potato salad and my fiancé had Burnt Ends Burger with fries. The biscuits seemed to have some cornmeal in them and I immediately wished I would have added pimento cheese as a side to top off my ham biscuits. They were really good with the apple butter. I didn't like the combo of the pickled onions on the biscuits but they were delicious in there own and I didn't let them go to waste. The potato salad had a bit of kick to it and I definitely preferred the fries over it. The treehouse area was full so we sat out front but I do hope to sit in the treehouse next time. It's just a really cool area and a beautiful spot for a meal and/or drinks. This place is out of the way but I will definitely be recommending it to anyone out that way. read more

We went to the Stave after finding it on Yelp with mostly really good reviews. But I have to say that our experience was not great. We were seated right away for dinner at 6:45 on a Wednesday. Our server greeted us right away and was super sweet. We ordered drinks the cranberry smash for me and the burnt/toasted old fashioned for my husband. Mine was great, my husbands was good tasting but tiny. A $13 cocktail should be a full size cocktail, this was not. We ordered the green fritters (fried green tomatoes and okra), but they were out of them. So we got the Brussels and cornbread. The Brussels were tasty the cornbread was one corn muffin of sorts. It was fine but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't order it again. We both ordered the hot honey fried chicken entree, after the trout was sold out. My husband also ordered the hand cut fries after the broccoli slaw was sold out. The chicken was tasty, but like Buffalo sauce, and a little dry. The entree is $18 and there is one chicken breast and some green beans (those were really good), and some smashed potatoes. While it tasted good, I would not order it again. The fries my husband ordered never came. My husband ordered another Bourbon, a Blanton's, which we heard they were out of from another server ours asked about it. So he ordered a Buffalo Trace on the rocks. He got a small taster in a shot glass, no rocks. The restaurant is super cool looking and in a cool location on a country road. The staff there are plentiful. I counted four servers, a hostess, an expediter, a bartender, and four kitchen staff. Like I said, our server was very sweet. But I'm not sure she has worked there long and she does not know a thing about bourbon, and just wasn't well informed about the menu. As a whole, because you can see all the goings on of the staff while you sit there, I was left with the feeling that we were bothering the staff by being there and they found the customers more of a nuisance than not. Just not the way you want to feel when you go to a restaurant. I am giving it two stars because of our sweet server and the decent food, but I would not go back and cannot recommend it. read more

I visited the stave with Co-workers during lunch time. The restaurant was crowded. Most of the tables outside were taken as well. I had the burger and it was perfectly cooked, and delicious. There place is fairly small inside. The waitresses and waiters are very customer friendly. Even tho were 3 Bourbon Tour buses there food came out quickly. Great addition to Frankfort. read more

Not only was the Old Fashioned excellent and the bourbon bread pudding unbelievably good, but when I found I had a flat tire right as they were closing for the night, the chef and a waitress went extremely out of their way to help me! Traveling from out of town, we found this little gem which seems like it is out in the middle of nowhere - however, it's strategically placed between Castle & Key and Woodford Reserve. The exterior is a bit deceiving as it looks like a small-town bar; however, the interior is a farm to fork, industrial-style bourbon bar that makes you want to spend a few hours hanging out to chat with others. Great location, looks like it would be great food but don't count on getting to eat it. Booked reservations months in advance and was excited to try it. When we arrived and were seated, we were told there wasn't much left on the menu. They had sold out of every entree but fried chicken and catfish and all appetizers but one or two. Had really talked this place up to my friends on our trip from out of state so was very disappointed. I hope they are better prepared for reservations in the future. read more

We had a pleasant visit. No wait time. This place is cute and quaint. The staff is so nice! I had the hot chicken sandwich, it was a tiny bit on the dry side. The cheese grits were so delicious! My hubby had the stave burger, and he liked it! He did get cornbread that was also a little over cooked. I would definitely recommend this place, and I bet it's so cute in the warmer weather too! The atmosphere is great, staff were all nice but the service was lacking. (Maybe only in the Treehouse?) I ordered the honey hot chicken, the chicken came out hot (from the deep fryer) but no heat in the breading. I got the potatoes and green beans on the side, the potatoes were barely warm and the green beans were cold. My wife cot the pickle brined buttermilk chicken sandwich, she liked it. I have to second the last review. Waited an hour for a burger and catfish sandwich. Was willing to let that go because they were busy. The burger had a lot of salt and I like salt, but so much so that I couldn't eat it. Told the waiter and he just said okay. Waiters not paying attention and just staring at tickets waiting on food instead of refilling drinks and getting peoples checks. Small portion for catfish as well. Expensive for a burger even if it was good. The old fashion also lacked proper flavoring and was expensive for what it was. read more

Tremendous food, gorgeous location, and incredibly warm, hospitable staff. On an absolutely slammed Saturday evening, Andrew was a phenomenal server/bartender/unicorn in human form. And did I mention the food? Outstanding. Every dish we ordered was delicious; the Brussels sprouts were excellent, the house-made pimento cheese was literally the tastiest of my life, the pulled pork hoe cakes were to die for, and the hot honey chicken was seasoned and fried perfectly.
