Being a small town, there weren't many options still open, so we called to see if they were still serving dinner. The sweetest lady answered and told us their kitchen closed at 8:00 PM, but they would still be happy to take us. We're SO glad we called! The moment we walked in, we loved the place. It was beautifully decorated, with fresh wildflowers they had picked themselves, the tables were set so nicely, and everything had such a warm, cozy, welcoming feel. We were seated immediately and had ice water at the table right away. The service from beginning to end was seriously top-notch. Then the wonderful lady helping us, and I'm so sorry we didn't get her name, brought out freshly baked mini blueberry muffins. OH. MY. GOODNESS. They were DELICIOUS. That was the moment we looked at each other and knew dinner was going to be good. And it absolutely was! Our daughter ordered an omelette, my wife had the steak frites, and I ordered the chicken piccata. Every single dish was delicious. My wife also ordered a blueberry cosmo, which she loved! At this point we were completely stuffed, but there was no way we were leaving without trying dessert. We ordered the red velvet cake AND the chocolate croissant bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Did we need both? Absolutely not. Did we finish them anyway? Pretty much! The food was just THAT good. We kept telling ourselves we were full and somehow kept taking another bite. What really made this place special, though, was the hospitality. We came in close to closing time, and instead of ever making us feel rushed or like an inconvenience, they welcomed us with kindness and gave us a wonderful dinner experience. That says a lot about a place. 5 stars all the way. If you're anywhere near New Lebanon, do yourself a favor and stop here. Places like this deserve all the support and business they can get. It takes a bit to make drinks / food, so be sure to allocate some time--this isn't one of the factory-like cafes that churn out drinks / whip out ready-made food. A true patriot goes to Jake's Java…read more Memorial Day is important, but remembering our fallen shouldn't be limited to one day a year. I was interested in visiting Jake's Java after learning Jake was serving in the U.S. Air Force when his aircraft crashed during a training exercise, claiming the lives of all eight crew members on board. As a combat veteran myself, I wanted to support a local business that honors service and sacrifice. This was my first visit to Jake's, and I'm so glad I stopped by. Not only was the food excellent, but it was clearly made with love. In fact, that describes the entire atmosphere. The owner, Jake's mother Kim, is a wonderful woman, and if you stop by, you won't regret taking a moment to say hello. I highly recommend coming by for a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or simply to pay your respects. Outside, you'll find eight beautifully crafted picnic tables, each dedicated to one of the fallen service members. Take a seat, enjoy the moment, and spend some time reflecting on the heroes whose legacy lives on here. Jake's Java is more than a coffee shop--it's a tribute, a gathering place, and a reminder that our fallen heroes should never be forgotten.

Crisp and delicious. The salad had both red and golden beets and a spicy balsamic dressing. But the food direction is also odd, with an order-with-numbers system where you have to wait for it if you're going outside to eat (which requires schlepping your food up some massive stairs and around two turns just to get to the outside area) but for which they'll deliver if you're in the dismal downstairs. It's a huge missed opportunity; the largely empty (perhaps to keep it aesthetically pleasing) spot for the bookstore/gift shop, obviously positioned on the first floor to get more traffic, is adjacent to the outside seating area and would have been a far better choice for the café. The counter service was a strange mix of hovering and inattentive. As for the food, it's a theoretically nice set of high-end salads with no hot options (the hot stuff we ordered was just tepid), but is thrown together, given ingredients and pricing. The salmon-spinach salad, for example, was just baby spinach with sort of indifferent slices of salmon (not chopped for better coverage for flavor) tucked at random inside; the caesar salad was about as plain as you could imagine, and the special "Buddha Bowl", which a tasty original, was a pretty small portion for double digit pricing. It's adequate but it's not the kind of café to make you say "oh, let's meet for lunch at the Clark!", and without good inside seating that takes advantage of the beautiful view, adjacent to that view, it's just a quick refueling stop.
