Thought we needed a new wood burner. The salesman was very up front with us. It would take major work to do so. Quoted us $16,000 when all was considerate new chimney insert, masonry work, heavy removal of old equipment, etc. So instead he recommended refurbishing what have though a different company. Stopped in to look at gas inserts, as we thought ours would need to be replaced. They suggested we schedule a service call to see if they could fix it. Came out on 12/01, communication with technician was great, arrived in time window they said they would. Spent 2 hours cleaning and fixing the existing gas insert and it looks as good as new. Our technician Kevin was friendly, knowledgeable, answered all of my questions, made suggestions, clean, left his boots at the door. Honestly could not be more pleased with the service. I have driven by this place for many years and was glad to know they were there when I needed a new grate for our wood burning fireplace. We stopped in on a Saturday and were greeted by very attentive and friendly folks. Turns out it is a family run business. Love supporting a local business! We were able to find a new grate and found there were a lot of other products we could have used over the years...such as hearth cleaners and wood carriers. We even got a free new shovel. Would never recommend this place. It has been issue after issue and here we are in the dead of winter and our stove is still not fixed. Guys came out threw our chimney grate into the yard, soot everywhere and left it there. Told us the liner was installed wrong and condemned our stove. They were rude and seemed annoyed to be out there. We called the place they recommended to make the fix and when they came out, they said that nothing was wrong and it was exactly how they would have installed. We called stove shop back and let them know we were cleared and to come back out for the work. They came back and again refused service. Visited to talk with them about converting our wood fireplace to gas. We felt a weird vibe when we walked in, and our "salesperson " (who told us later that he is actually the installer) showed no interest in tying to help us understand our options. Just very disappointed on how service call was handled. Different story every time i called. No follow up, I realize its a busy time of year....but kept getting that excuse everytime i called Talked to me like i was an idiot. Felt like I was dealing with a used car sales man. It was your shop. "Cindy is going to be real generous and make up the problem by giving you a great price on a new burner" Well .....the burner didn't need replacement. In January, 2020 I purchased a set of Design Specialties "Carolina" fireplace doors from The Stove Shop. My salesperson, Cindy was very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. I actually picked another model, but when Cyndy came to measure my fireplace she brought a sample of the frame that I had selected. It would not work in my application. She had other frame samples with her and we found the "Carolina" frame to work perfectly. Understanding that the order - manufacturing process - delivery timeframe would take approximately 8 weeks, the order was placed. In early March, 2020 their installer, Eric came to install my doors. Upon placement of the frame on my fireplace, a small knick was discovered. The knick was the size of a pin head and went through the powder coat finish to the primer. Eric and I agreed to complete the installation and discuss my options with The Stove Shop office. Unfortunately, this ocurred just when our governor shut down the state due to the Covid 19 virus. Cyndy and I discussed various options and agreed to try to touch-up the knick with a discount credit offered. Today, Cyndy came out to perform the touch-up. She performed an OUTSTANDING fix where you (and I) would have trouble finding the repair. As you can see by the attached picture, the doors work really well in my application. I recently bought a house that had a Vermont Castings fireplace insert. The Stove Shop was the local dealer that I had to contact when there was a problem with the doors on the unit. I tried calling for assistance and the person was less than helpful. He basically told me to fix the problem myself. After trying to explain the problem further and sending pictures via email, I called back to follow up. The person answering the phone made me feel like I was bothering him. I left a follow up message and never received a response. Let me repeat that....I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. Not to my email or my phonce calls. I cannot believe in today's economy, a store could be so rude. We recently purchased a set of gas logs from the stove shop. They had a great selection to choose from and took the time to explain the pros and cons of the different manufacturers and types. We ordered the logs and had them installed in under two weeks. The only delay was us getting our propane tank delivered and the chimney cleaned. They provided a list of chimney seeeps and we choose top hat. They called me back a day later and scheduled the appointment. We absolutely love the logs and the service we received from the stove shop. Our experience couldn't have been better. I had a wonderful experience at The Stove Shop after visiting several local fireplace shops. My boyfriend and I were installing a wood-stove ourselves and my impression is that other stores were not interested in our comparatively small purchases for supplies, liner accessories, etc we needed for install. Not only did Frank offer us very sound advice, he TALKED US OUT of purchasing something he didn't think we needed and in fact lent us a tool to make what we did have work - that's service you don't see very often anymore! Thanks to Frank, we had the stove installed that day, and a fire keeping our house warm that night. Our Vermont Casting propane stove would not light. Jerry, their tech diagnosed the problem. The stove was "older" and Vt Castings no longer carried parts for it. Not something easily found in So Cal, and certainly nothing of this quality stocked at the big home improvement centers. Another thing I appreciate is the ability to look and touch the merchandise. There are plenty of times an internet purchase works if you know exactly what you want, but if you're shopping and you want to SEE the quality of the product, then I think you owe your patronage to the proprietor of a local brick and mortar if they make "looking and touching" available to you. If you're looking for quality made products, this is the place I'd like to make a full disclosure to my fellow yelpers, I am a cousin of the owner, and if I had nothing good to say, I'd just leave it alone and not write a review at all, but I can honestly say I wish I had a shop like this near me in So Cal. read more

I had a really great experience with The Stove Shop. The store is conveniently local and it has been around for a long time, about 40 years I believe. They knew what they were talking about, and the store is very cozy and feels like home. I felt the employees and store owner were surprisingly down-to-earth, and I got to know them quite well. They gave me their attention and time and I would recommend it to a friend for their stove needs. I can imagine their only problem is when people call up expecting an immediate response when you need to call in advanced, most likely preferably in the spring or summer instead of their busiest time in the fall or winter. I feel an obligation to stand up for this local and family-owned business, especially because they truly spent a lot of time talking with me and I was more than satisfied with their advice when I left the store. I have been dealing with this store for a year now, and have always found them helpful. They are usually busy, which is a good sign, but patience is helpful while waiting. I decided to buy a used pellet stove instead of a new one from them, and they still answer my questions without issue, and are helpful people. We had our fireplace doors replaced- when they completed the initial installation, there was a slight mark on one door, so they sent them back and reinstalled when the workmanship was perfect. Took my insert door to get repaired to another dealer and it sat there for almost 5 days while I watched the heat escape out of my chimney. I finally called the stove shop since they were the next closest dealer to me. They were friendly, and very helpful and told me to bring it right in. They replaced the handle on the door of my insert in less than 20 minutes. I did not even purchase my insert at their store. We had previously had The Stove Shop install at different times, two gas Vermont Casting free standing fireplaces. They were extremely informative and the installation was efficient and clean. The fireplaces have worked very well since then. When one needed a part, Bill was very helpful and even told me how to replace it myself. We recently had the same fireplace installed at my son's home which is outside of their normal area; however, he drove out to apprise the situation, told us what needed to be done prior to the installation and gave us a fair price for the job. The gas line installation and the demolition of the built in fireplace that was not up to code took several months, but Bill was very patient with the time frame and the many questions that arose during that time. The fireplace was successfully installed last week with the same care and professionalism as the ones we had installed.
