We were on the trip from Charlotte to Charleston and wanted to stop for lunch on the way. Having read fantastic reviews of this place we made a detour specifically to try this it out. We were there at 12:30 PM. The actual hours advertised on Google and Yelp were 10-3. On the door there was a little "Closed clock" sign showing that the shop employees will be back at 11:15. The shop looked absolutely deserted. Recommendation to the management : Many shops have to close for variety of reasons in the future please be so kind to either show a proper sign on the door or change your hours on your advertisement sites. read more

We were in the downtown area and decided to stop by, especially after all the great reviews & it did not disappoint! It appeared closed, but to our pleasant surprise, the cook, Kevin hurried out to greet & welcome us! I'm so glad we stopped-it was just my husband and son with me. Kevin took time to speak to us, took a moment to learn about us a bit. My son wasn't feeling well with a bad headache and Kevin really took time to speak about his experience in health and diet that may help our son. He shared a plethora of knowledge! Let me tell you that I have been missing out on some delicious yummies. At the suggestion of a FB friend, my husband and I went to The Strudel Shop on Washington Street in downtown Columbia Wednesday. When you walk in the door, you instantly feel welcome. It is a nice, inviting space. Since we had never eaten there before, the sweet girl at the register was very patient in helping us to decide what to order. We ordered the spinach & feta, pot pie, apple cinnamon and berries & cream strudels. I can tell you that everything single bite of those strudels was devoured. We thoroughly enjoyed the savory strudels with the spinach & feta and the delectable pot pie filling. The highlight of the meal was the sweet strudels. The crusts were so buttery and flaky. Neither was too sweet. They were perfect. If you haven't put this little piece of heaven on your go to lunch places, you are definitely missing out! He has cooked under the tutelage of 3 White House chefs, the Carolina Panthers,Teemu Selanne, Thomas Keller's soux chef in California. Chef Kevin has cooked for 3 different Michelin star chefs with one being above Gordon Ramsay at one point. The owner and staff were amazing! Great job at describing what was for brunch, looks can be deceiving I will say that. At first glance I was unsure if I wanted to eat here but upon trying the food I was in awe, my top three favorite items were the Pot Pie, the Greek Salad, and the Berries and Cream Strudel! I also had a maple latte that was amazing, sweet and strong just like I love my coffee. I have seen reviews that said they looked like they were served the scraps, however, as I said looks can be deceiving, as with any restaurant if you are not satisfied it is up to us as individuals to let the owner know right then and there and they will make it right. And this staff in MY opinion made me feel very comfortable enough to let them if I was not satisfied. I would recommend this place for brunch! It was delicious, fresh and ready to eat. We loved the spanakopita, tzatziki sauce, lyonnaise style potatoes, bread pudding, baked veggie pasta, and berry cheese strudel. The little plates of fruit & mixed salad with berries were a nice addition. If you are a carnivore that has to eat lots of meat, you probably wouldn't like the lack of meat options.
