Black Sheep Sourdough Micro-Bakery is a small-batch shop in Paso Robles from Paula Kopper, a woman…read morewho only began baking two years prior to opening when her spouse developed gluten sensitivity requiring a change in diet. Previously operating her own daycare, test batches of Bread developed after an internet search often finding their way home with pupils and their parents, July 2025 finally saw Kopper open up shop at 1306 Pine Street where her goods now frequently sell-out daily. Working exclusively with a Sourdough starter named Dough-Rita, even Black Sheep's Cookies subject to traditional fermentation, guests now will find both sweet and savory treats alongside full loaves with clever names like "The Basic B" and "Mob Boss." Originally sold at the Paso Robles Farmers Market, opening of a storefront delayed as she relied on friends and family for everything from paint to plumbing, May 2026 now sees Paula regularly trying new things ranging from hefty Cinnamon Rolls to an absolutely stellar Sourdough Blondie that starts sweet and sticky before dissipating with an almost boozy sort of linger. Leaning into the "Black Sheep" name with some clever signage, a Sourdough "Cinny Roll" weighty beneath tangy Icing, those looking for something breakfast-y will note Scones and "Breaky Bombs," or their sweet brethren called "Lachee" filled with Fruit and Cream Cheese riffing on Czech Kolaches.

Another escape room adventure and another great time as we hit up Sweet Escapes today for some…read moreescape action and of course a little treat at the end. This is a unique place as it's 3 escape rooms inside of a very good bakery so you can have your cake and eat it to. We were greeted right away upon arrival and got started, we tackled all 3 of their rooms and were not only successful on all 3 but made the leaderboard for one. Here's a quick breakdown of the rooms. Academic Misconduct is very well setup and the rooms flows well. It can be a little difficult with the lighting in the room but we figured it out, they had some unique puzzles too that we really enjoyed. Confectionary Conspiracy is a very unique room, we haven't really done anything like it. There were some great puzzles, very immersive atmosphere and just a very well put together room. Sorro Bay is terrific, it was my favorite of the day the way the room progressed and the combination of puzzles and tricks in that room. It combined a lot of unique elements and added up to a ton of fun. The rooms were fantastic, if you haven't visited I highly recommend you do. Savannah was our GM and she's one of the best we've ever had. The way she presents the rooms is so great and she had us laughing through the day. Savannah is the kind of employee all escape rooms should strive for. Ending note, the macarons were delicious, we had the PB&J and Neapolitan ones and they were so so good.

This was our first escape room experience, and honestly, it was a blast…read more The store itself is beautiful, and when we walked in they had fresh cookies and desserts out that looked amazing. The only slightly awkward part at first was figuring out when we were supposed to come in because we were told not to enter more than 10 minutes before the session, so it felt a little unclear whether we should wait outside or come in. Not a huge deal, just a slightly awkward first impression. The employee who explained the locks and how things worked was excellent -- super friendly, upbeat, and helpful. Then we were brought into the room by another employee who stayed in character while explaining the story, which really added to the experience. I went in without huge expectations and had never done an escape room before, but it completely surprised me in the best way. The room was smaller than I expected, but the experience itself was incredibly creative and immersive. There were so many unexpected moments and surprises throughout the game that made it genuinely exciting and memorable. We didn't even finish our room, and I already want to come back and try again, plus try some of the other rooms too. Afterward, we got cookies and desserts, and they were fantastic. The cheesecake cookie with frosting, the macaron, and the white chocolate macadamia cookie with sea salted caramel were all really good. My kids loved them too. The only reason I'm mentioning this last part is because the rest of the experience was so good that it stood out: the interaction when we were leaving felt a little abrupt and uncomfortable. It seemed like the employee helping the next group may have been stressed or rushed, but the tone came across a bit curt and made us feel like we needed to leave immediately rather than relax and enjoy the shop afterward. A warmer, more welcoming checkout experience would really elevate the overall experience from great to exceptional. Overall though, we had a really fun time and would absolutely come back.

I got the sourdough loaf and my sister got the Olive sourdough loaf. We were so blown away by the quality of the bread. It was extremely good toasted for breakfast and we also made garlic bread with it which was to-die-for. The ambiance of Wayward is cozy and quaint. The service was impeccable and the girl helping us was really sweet. Everyone was in a good mood which is always a good thing to see. It was clean and tidy. We absolutely will be coming back here!

On my first visit, I arrived right at opening and was told to come back in about an hour for more options. No problem, I grabbed a coffee nearby, explored a park, and discovered a hotel that I ended up booking and falling in love with. Over my visits I tried the ham & cheese croissant, kouign-amann, and a seasonal avocado toast. Each pastry was perfection, and the avocado toast was both unpique and delicious. Their menu offers a great mix of sweet and savory treats, but don't show up at opening if you want the full spread. Pro tip: Bay Wood Park Pier is just minutes away. Pair your pastries with a stroll and an incredible view! To the team at Wayward Baking: thank you for the most delicious mornings. I'll be back and can't wait to try one of your pizzas (pizza Mondays are officially on my radar!).
