Tried out this new cafe + escape room for my boyfriend's little brother's birthday! The room we tried was the Legend of Sorro Bay. I've tried multiple escape rooms and while this was interesting, it was confusing. The clues in the room to get to the hint wasn't the clearest. The story itself was also not the most interesting. I am still interested in trying out the other ones, so I'lld efinitely write a re-review of that in the future!

We came for a Girl Scout team building trip and the owners were so friendly and accommodating. We had 7 kids and the chaperones. The kids could not stop talking about how much fun they had. I appreciated how attentive Nay was and the level of effort the staff gave so the kids felt at ease and excited for the escape room. It was a first time for several of the girls. Upon arrival, I loved how clean and friendly the staff were. The girls all picked out a treat and it was finished before I got photos of them eating. They were prepped on the escape room. We did the room with the senior prank. I loved how each girl had a special task so everyone had a role to play. They had to utilize a few hints but finished the room with 17 seconds to spare. The owners were so nice and Savannah shared she was a former Girl Scout. They girls invited her to sing along the friendship song and closed out the day with their friendship circle. It was nice to finally have something in town great for families. I would definitely recommend this place and hope they stick around. The girls are already excited to come back with their siblings and try the other rooms with their parents.

My husband and I were in Paso Robles visiting family, and this ended up being my favorite activity while we were in town--yes, even better than the wine tastings! I'm by no means an escape room extraordinaire. In fact, I think I'm kinda bad at it, but this was so much fun. There were three of us trying to escape Confectionary Conspiracy, and we had a blast. I got lucky and stumbled across a clue early on, but my husband's cousin was definitely the one figuring out some of the trickier nuances. We got a little help from the staff with a few clues, but tying everything together was so much fun. I don't want to give anything away, but the whole experience was fantastic and super clever. It's not my first escape room, but it's been several years--and this one definitely made me want to do more. We came here after lunch, so I wasn't hungry and don't drink caffeine after 2PM, but holy cow the sweets menu and coffee drinks are legit! I can't wait to come back to Paso Robles to try out their two other escape rooms and I'll definitely be coming before lunch next time. It's also the perfect place to drop off puzzle-loving teens while the adults go wine tasting or treasure hunting through the local antique shops. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for the treats--and if you're up for a challenge, grab some friends and see if you can escape one of the rooms. Enjoy the sweets... and good luck with the escape!

Clever logo and colorful macarons - all creations of the two talented owners.

These two young business owners are outstanding! Super friendly, creative, intriguing backstory, theater background, crazy talented, and heading places. The creations they cooked up were a delight to the taste buds, using ingredients such as lemon curd and ricotta. They also educated us on the macaron, NOT to be confused with the macaroon. Then there was the game side of the business. They offer 3 escape games. We went with the bakery game to continue the theme of the store. Something we found to be unique and fun was when we went outside and around a corner, to the competing shop next door, to begin the game. The tasks inside the room put our brains and cooperation to the test but we got out with 1 second to spare!

When I went with my wife and a couple of friends to Sweet Escapes for a Valentine's adventure, we never expected to experience the funnest escape rooms in the county. We've done every room at Puzzle Effect, we've done half the rooms at Locked Inn, and a couple other rooms throughout SLO county. None of them could top The Legend of Sorro Bay at Sweet Escapes. The fact that this experience is in the back of an Escape Room + Patisserie fusion business is mind-blowing. It's such a weird combination, but it worked out so well. We met with the co-owners while we were there (they were lovely and comped us a few GF macarons for our friends), they talked about how they had been in over 200 escape rooms throughout their relationship, and how they always wanted a place they could go after to just talk about the room they'd just done. They married Savannah's training under Amaury Guichon (THE chocolate sculpting king of YouTube) to their joint enjoyment of escape rooms to create something I didn't know that I needed; an escape room scene that lets you sit and enjoy the high of victory together over some delicious treats. And yes, they are all delicious. Savannah's apprenticeship under a world-famous chocolatier and pâtissier was on full display in the macarons and mini-cakes available, even late into a Friday evening. My wife noted that the sole improvement she could devise was that she would have loved some coffee afterward or as part of a daytime experience, but that's just a comment, not a critique. In conclusion, with such an odd fusion, one might naturally expect half of the experience to be considerably weaker than the other, but both elements were excellent in their own rights. The pastries were wonderful and surprisingly affordable, the escape room was one I will remember forever, and the owners were people I genuinely want to see thrive as business owners in our area. Our group will be returning for another room later in the year, and we cannot wait. Much love from the Spare Time Sleuths; get out there and try and beat our leaderboard score.

The depth of theming and attention to details in the escape room is crazy. Our mixed group of 2 middle aged adults with three 20-somethings found the perfect activity for an afternoon of bonding and getting to know each other. In addition, rewarding ourselves with a tasty, unique cookie and a drink afterwards as we rehashed the room only added to the experience!

We tried an escape room! The employees were very kind and there was a screen inside the room that provided us with many useful clues.

You check in at the main office downtown, then hop on a tour bus to the ranch property. Our driver was super informative and entertaining along the way. The drive itself felt like part of the experience with bumpy ranch roads, multiple gates, gorgeous scenery, and a real behind the scenes feel of the property. Once you arrive, the staff gets you geared up with all the safety equipment and everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, and great with all ages. After gearing up, you take an old Army style jeep up the mountain and that ride alone was an adventure Super rickety, steep, and fun! We felt very safe the entire time because before every single zip line, the staff carefully checked everyone's safety gear and connections. There are 6 zip lines total and each one is different with spectacular views that change throughout the course. One thing to know is that you should be in reasonably good shape because there are mini hikes between some of the zip lines. There are lots of water stations along the course, which was great, but the experience is definitely active and you do not want to hold up the group. Totally worth it though and such a memorable Central Coast adventure for families, couples, teens, and adventurous kids!

Let me start by saying I have done over 12 escape rooms in Sacramento and the Bay area combined, as…read morewell as a few more in different places including out of state. This was my first escape room in Monterey and it is the first place that I have found that allows you to bring your dog. It is rare to find dog friendly locations and I am super appreciative of them when I do find them so I really wanted to be able to give it five stars. To start with, choosing the escape room we wanted to play to was more difficult than I have found at other locations because they do not have room difficulty levels here. Their website states that's because their "adventures are unique" but so are the rooms at other locations. This is a real challenge because it makes it difficult to decide which room might be best suited to you. Of all the rooms I have done in the past, I have never had more than five people in my group and the majority of the rooms were done with only two people. I have also only not finished one room prior to this location and I knew going in that it was going to be a challenge to do the room with only two people because that was explained to me beforehand. Personally, these kinds of things affect my level of enjoyment. We chose "The Gate" and the only thing that seemed to be unique to this room on the website was that it stated it was not recommended for children under 16. I assumed that was because there might be something scary or adult about the room. When we arrived, as many other reviewers have noted, parking was a little bit confusing. We ended up paying for parking because the area gets quite crowded and we were concerned we wouldn't be able to find anything close. However, as we approached on foot we saw that they had a few designated spots right next to the door for for customers of the escape room so if you are going to come here, drive through the parking areas to see if there is free parking available for you nearby. The employee that greeted us and the general vibes were also different from almost all of the other escape rooms I have been to. It was very low energy and matter of fact, which I don't have a problem with but again is quite a departure from the normal excited welcoming tone of escape rooms. We only had to wait a few minutes and were brought to our room and given a short introduction. We had multiple issues once we started playing. The first issue for us was that you are not given any kind of light source and it was an incredibly dark room. Most escape rooms give you a lantern or a flashlight but we had to pull out our phones and try to use the flashlight from our phone while we were playing. This also goes for a notepad or digital notepad to collect information which would have been useful on a number of occasions in this room. (Better AC would have been nice as well as they were both sweating quite a bit during this experience.) Secondly, we were supposed to listen to sounds coming from pipes during the game, which we did figure out and did try to do but no matter how hard we tried the sound just wasn't working well enough and the employee ended up having to tell us the answer. They later stated that it is very difficult to hear and a lot of people have a problem with that particular section. They also weren't clear about what part of the pipe we could remove and when we took it off to try to hear better they came over the intercom and, in my opinion, a little rudely, said to "put them back on". Then saying not to take the whole pipe off just to take the cap of the pipe, which again was difficult to discern in the dark. We would never actively pull something off or make things difficult for the employees, but we had been told we should "remove" those to hear better. It was very confusing and very unpleasant. Another issue for me was that the clues just weren't interesting or cohesive and I didn't really get how they connected to the story. At any rate, we realized after a short time that we just weren't having very much fun. We basically said let's just get through it and finish and get out of here, but this is actually only the second ever room that we haven't been able to finish. It was quite a sour ending to an already not super enjoyable afternoon and the cherry on that was when the employee told us afterwards that this n't is an incredibly difficult room to do with only two people. Now if I'm being honest, I don't know if they say that to try to make people feel better or if that's the truth, but things like that would be really great to know before going in. I am genuinely writing this review in the hope that it is helpful. Under different circumstances with better communication, I would actually consider returning to one of these franchise escape rooms in Monterey, but we really just didn't have a great experience and I think it's important to share the negative as well as the positive so that people can make improvements.

When I called the place to help me, the woman( who I believe is the manager of the wave street location) was very rude. She had the worst tone out of any customer service person I've met, said I was stupid for not finding the right location and that I must be putting in the wrong address. I kept assuring her that I was going to the directions straight from the website, and she replied "never in my ten years working here have I seen someone not get to this location so you surely must be wrong and put in the other address". Mind you my team and I aren't from here and were trying our best to navigate. After eventually finding the location, no help from this woman, the man that greeted us and our experience doing the escape room was lovely.
