It's a cute, clean cafe with so many made from scratch items - bread, cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls (we had 2), and many other items. Service was quick and friendly. The food is amazing. I love their maple cinnamon rolls but their Brisket Sandwich is by far my favorite. I wish they would start serving French fries. On Valentine's Day, my husband and I decided to try this restaurant which had excellent reviews. When we arrived, there was a large group at one table and our table. It was 12:30 pm when we ordered. I wanted the soup and salad meal, but was informed that the soup of the day was all gone...at 12:30 pm! This was the beginning of the downfall of this restaurant for us. I ended up ordering the Cranberry Walnut Salad and my husband ordered the BBQ burger with a side salad (they did not have fries on their menu). Two or 3 other tables came and were served. Still no order... then, at around 12:55 pm, our lady server came to us apologizing that the kitchen LOST OUR ORDER! What?! It took 25 min for her to realize we did not have our food yet! Well... She re-took our order and we waited again. You'd think that after that big boo-boo, they'd prepare our order right away. NOPE!!! Another 2 or 3 tables were filled and served, still NO FOOD for us. Are you kidding me?! Do they want to feed us? Do they want us to get up and leave? Hmmmm... I was almost tempted to when I called the server again, whereupon she said, oh I was just coming out with your order. It was now 1:20 pm. Server apologized profusely and offered us pies for dessert, so I said, "You should give us a discount instead." (I had no intention of waiting another hour for a piece of pie!) Long story short...the salad was very good and my husband liked his burger. The server came out later and told us that our food was comp'd. Nice way to make up for their boo boos! I could've given the restaurant a one-star because of the inconvenience and aggravation, but since we liked the food and food was free, I am giving The SunFlour Cafe two-stars instead. BTW, my husband and I are retired and just moved to Sanford, so we are basically "locals." I don't think we'll be back though. Food was good, but too stressful to wait 45-50 min for food. read more

What a cute cafe. It may not look like much from the outside, but once you step in through the door, you are greeted with a clean open cafe. The waitress was really nice and helpful on the menu. Ordered the huevos rancheros expecting the traditional eggs, tortillas, salsa, beans, etc. I got eggs on top of undercooked hashbrowns covered in an indeterminate flavorless goop. This is the most bland meal I think I've ever had- coming from someone who doesn't even season their chicken. Highly recommend stopping by this small cafe on the highway. Drive slowly to find it. Not too many choices of restaurants in this small town. A challenge for me as I'm from the big city. Went here for breakfast while on family vacation, and I am really torn on this review, as I really did like this place, but a couple items really let me down. There are some amazing Mennonite run cafes down south I have visited, so the bar was high! The good: super nice ladies running this place, great service, wonderful baking skills, cozy atmosphere. We loved the biscuits, french toast, and pancakes. My kid spilled syrup all over the floor and they handled it like nothing. The average: eggs, has browns, and meats we're good, but not noteworthy The sad: the fresh fruit was canned and syrupy- not fresh. The berry pie was made with what tasted like canned pie filling. Great pie requires fresh fruit. I would come back, but this was not a "destination" type place I had hoped for. read more

Don't be put off by the industrial locale of this bakery/cafe. You will be pleasantly surprised upon entering. The decor is sweet and cheerful. The food is plentiful, delicious, and affordable. They have a breakfast and lunch seating, but certain items are served all day such as the breakfast burrito, a bargain at $4.50+2.00 for green chili on top. They offer daily specials as well. We didn't have room for the baked goods, but all looked phenomenal. The slice of sour dough French bread that came with the breakfast special was out of this world good. I know this place is all homemade and you can tell they work hard. The service was very slow. We had meatloaf, which was their special of the day. It took a very long time to get our lunch. We arrived at 10:40 and the lunch special was for 11. So we decided to wait until 11 to get the special. It took another 20 minutes after 11 to receive our lunch. The meatloaf was good, but they have BBQ sauce all over the top which covered the flavor. The waitress never came back with water or to check on us. I'm not a local, but I love this local eatery. I've been in the Valley enough times to try restaurants in Alamosa, Monte Vista, Center, and Del Norte. If you look hard enough, and read the reviews, you'll find great little gems like the Sunflour Cafe and Bakery in Monte Vista. I've had breakfast and lunch multiple times at the Sunflour and they always leave me satisfied. The owners are operators and the staff provides great service. Thanks for having my order ready. I am giving this 2 stars because I ordered a Cajun pasta and got chicken Alfredo. Now I don't know if it was a mistake but I don't think so. Also my salad had some bad leaves of lettuce in it that made me stop eating it. My co-worker had a bbq burger. He informed me it was super bland and the burger was more like a hockey puck. We have a number of good breakfast establishments in the city of Monte Vista. The sunflower, run by the Mennonites puts all of the quality into everything that they make that is typical of this religious tradition. The waitstaff are modestly dressed as befits this religiously conservative community. It's a clean, homey place, where the locals gather for coffee to talk, to bring friends, and to have a good meal. They are also open for lunch. I love their sandwiches and that home cooked touch. The baked goods are very well done. read more
