As usual, the Sushi Bar does not disappoint. Dinner for 6 last night included Kirin Ichaban (nicely chilled) squid salads, spicey poki with avo and mango, Brundage Blast roll, Smokejumper roll and Wonder roll. Green tea ice cream for desert. The only reason I wouldn't give a full 5 star was that IF you make the mistake of ordering "3 stars" on their 1-5 scale, 2 out of 6 couldn't finish their dinner! We are all seasoned in spicey foods, and normally 3 stars is just right. Their scale needs calibration! Availability to reserve a table (even at a cost to guarantee) would be cool. Love!!! It sounds so strange to go to mountain town to get amazing sushi but it's true. Love the staff and service. They get very busy so plan ahead on timing or be patient, get a drink and hang out in first floor waiting area. View from deck on dining level is iconic McCall. Tip: the honey toast for dessert is ahhhhmazing. If it's busy, let your server know so they can plan ahead. It takes time and they do run out. read more

The service was good, a wait to be expected for fresh food made to order. The Korean Beef was good and they added spice to it at my request. The 2 rolls we got were fantastic and just enough for two people. The spring rolls were incredibly fresh and tasty. I think we will go back there once more before we leave. read more

Very good experience. Compared to other restaurants that I visited in McCall this place should definitely be on your list. Great views and great atmosphere. Fun and happy service. Good selection of cold beers. The sushi was delicious. I would describe it as a balanced fusion of authentic Japanese with an American flair. Most of the staff were very nice! I love the atmosphere and the sushi is very yummy. I almost didn't try the honey toast desert because it sounds so basic but it is huuuge and so so yummy! Definitely one of my favorite restaurants of McCall. Depending on the time of year, you can usually expect a long wait because they don't have a lot of tables, so reservations are a good idea! read more

This is a great sushi spot. We went there on Friday night. Didn't have to wait too long to sit, or for our food. Sat on the patio and had a great view of the lake. Cool atmosphere. Amazing food! So fresh! Excellent view. Ate outside - beware your shade disappears as the evening progresses. We were there on a particularly hot night. Do NOT be in a hurry - sushi was quick anything from the kitchen was really slow (our salad came after the sushi was long gone). If you order dessert be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes for it. Somehow someway maybe the best sushi i have ever had and is a pretty hard place to get fresh oceanic fish. Outside in the summer is obviously preferable but has limited seating. But inside is just as nice and i enjoy sometimes as temperatures can get col in Mccall as sun goes down. I have eaten here probably 15 to 20 times and never had a bad server or food. The sushi may not be made my Japanese Americans, but these people know how to roll a tasty, flavorful roll of sushi. I only wish when i come in saying only order 1 roll it taste so good i usually eat two there and order one for later when i leave, Which can run me $40, but at least it is worth it! read more

I too would give this place zero stars if I could, I frequently come to McCall and have wanted to try The Sushi Bar, when choosing McCall for an annual girls trip, this was on our list of MUST HAVES! We arrived and said we had table for 7. The hostess said the wait was 1 hour. We told her we would think about it. We decided to wait across the street and come back! When we called to inform them we would keep our name on the list, she said to come back now and we could be seated. We rushed back and were told it would still be 35 minutes. Confused... we explained we were just told to come back. We decided it wasn't a big deal and said okay we will wait and come back. There was a family with children and right behind us and we said we would switch them places and grab a drink while we wait. The hostess agreed and said she would call us. Ten minutes into that wait she called to tell us "her manager (who wasn't even there) said "she couldn't call us" and to check back in 30 MORE minutes! We agreed. We went back in 30 minutes and she said sorry you gave up our table and told us it would be another 50 minutes. After a brief discussion about wanting to eat there and our disappointment she told us she would call the manager "because she was her best friend". Unfortunately two hours later we still had no table and although the manager was extremely apologetic (over the phone) for the situation, nothing was resolved and no accommodations were made to change our perception of the situation. It's super disappointing and will not be going back. read more

Fun atmosphere and good food! We went for dinner on a Thursday night around 5:45, and had hoped to sit out on the deck, but the Sushi Bar was already packed. We were lucky just to snag a table in the back corner, it was the last one! Service was good. Our rolls were great, but on the small side. My boyfriend and I each ordered two rolls, and were full afterwards. My favorite was the ShrimpZilla. The honey toast was very good as well - very crunchy on the outside, but soft in the middle. Will never try this place again. Went on Friday May 29, 2020 at 6:30 pm. Because of Covid there was no inside dining (we understand that). You have to call a number, which took numerous tries as this is the only sushi place around. Again no problem. While we waited to get through, a man dressed in chef clothes and a woman came out with cigarettes smoking. They lokced the door behind them, and when my wife asked how to order, they could care less and said it would be at least an hour. They returned a few minutes later via the front door and went inside after smoking on the side. When my wife finally got through, the woman on the other end said in order to place a food order, you must agree to a 15% gratuity before we take your order. Wrong. I told her to hang up and we never ordered. We had children with us, so Growler's Pizza came thorugh. I always thought the tip came after the meal, and was dependent on food quality and service. This place doesn't care because during these times have more business than they can handle. The tip thing is rediculous, so I encourage everyone to boycott this place permanently. The 2 employees smoking appeared dirty and disheveled. Sad read more

Very cute upstairs with view, had high hopes. Unfortunately this was some of the worst sushi I've had. The sake mojito was awful, spicy pocket appetizer was cold and soggy, sushi rolls just boring and bland, shrimp tempura rice bowl was 3 cups rice with 3 shrimp avocado and sauce, beer served with warm glasses. I guess Im spoiled with amazing sushi at home. I have different sushi standards than some, but i just couldn't recommend this place to anybody. read more

We had A+ service from the moment we walked in the door. With 2 adults and 4 children, we may not always be a servers favorite table, but we were attended to promptly for every need. The food and drinks were on par, presentation was beautiful. We almost skipped out after reading previous reviews but we are so glad we didn't! We will be back. read more

Nothing authentic about this place. Trust your instincts that there can be no good sushi in the middle of Idaho. Avoid the noodle bowl, it was like spaghetti with Russian dressing. The tuna portion was generous but that could not make up for the rest of it. It was so bad we returned it to the kitchen. We also ordered a bowl of pho described as beef broth seasoned with star anise and ginger. Nope no star anise or ginger flavor here. The beef was cut into chunks instead of the thin slices you would expect. The noodles weren't like any rice noodles I've had before. Big-city quality sushi in a small town. Most sushi restaurants in smalls towns can get away with being the only game in town. This restaurant does not suffer from that syndrome. Great little find in McCall with an amazing upstairs view of the lake. I was skeptical about "inland" sushi, however, I was delighted by the result. The saba is house brined and quite delicious, the rolls are a bit on the small side but fresh and tasty and the pricing is reasonable. Nice selection of beverages. I love this place. It has some of the freshest sushi, which is bizarre given its location. I have eaten sushi all over the world and have found this to be top notch. This place is amazing. Hands down best Sushi in the state. The Mixed and Ahi Poke are probably the best I have ever had anywhere, period. Great atmosphere, awesome and friendly customer service. And as a bonus they carry gluten free soy sauce (most places in Idaho do not). A great Sake/drink menu as well. I have tried just about every roll on the menu and they are all spot on. Such a big disappointment... Ordered the $15 Kobe Beef Bowl (with rice option). Description states that this item is "Broiled Kobe Beef marinated in hoisin, garlic, and miso. Bowls are served with red peppers, green onions, carrots, fresh avocado, and daikon sprouts." That's the exact ingredient description, nothing more, nothing less. Sounded great when I ordered it but when it arrived, it was inedible. The bowl's rice was absolutely drenched (think, mayo and rice 'casserole' consistency) in what our 'waitress/supervisor' thought was probably spicy mayo?!? Yuck... no where in the Kobe Beef Bowl description does it mention spicy mayo being a substantial ingredient in this dish. If it had, I would have declined ordering it because I'm not a spicy mayo fan at all. Our 'waitress/supervisor' told me that "IF you come back again, make sure you order it without the spicy mayo..." as if it was MY error that it was inedible. Accuracy matters, especially when the menu item selected is $15! The beef portion of this particular bowl was extremely small for the price paid, too ~ it was the only component of the dish that was not swimming in spicy mayo. Our 'waitress/supervisor' was fairly pleasant and she offered me another bowl of miso soup (I declined) since my dinner was not satisfactory ~ zero options were given of perhaps remaking the meal in a 'non spicy mayo' version and the $15 charge for the Kobe Beef Bowl remained on the final/total bill... big disappointment, indeed. read more

I've eaten here twice once during happy hour and the prices are fantastic' My first visit I had Nigiri; salmon, two kinds of tuna. One is actually not a tuna but it tastes remarkably like Hamachi (Yellowtail) the other was Maguro. They were excellent. Fresh and delicious and large slices. Went again a month ago, and had the rolls. Warning: when they say spicy tuna they mean it. One of the other table-mates had the salmon. Both were good but not that great. The inari pocket was exceptional as was the Miso. Another Friend had the Pho Special. It was exceptional as well, Almost raw marinated beef that cooks in the soup. Living in Portland I've had my share of Pho and it was great. The meat was marinated in something that just gave it a great flavor and there was plenty of it. I like that they have Kirin draft on tap as well as a small but good selection of Micro-Brews. Compared to Boise prices for sushi it is a great value. Happy hour is daily 4-6. read more

This busy local establishment has been known for it's great sushi, noodle bowls and Pho. Not to forget their deserts of homemade ice creams (salted caramel, chocolate coconut and green tea) and deliciously original honey toast. However, as the only good Asian game in this resort town, the lack of competition has seemed to create an owner/chef who has become quite arrogant with his cuisine. Despite the friendly staff upstairs, you are first greeted downstairs by the gate keepers who inform you that it will be at least an hour and a half wait- but if you leave they will happily give your table away. Want to make a reservation ahead of time? Forget it. It's only first come, first serve. You can, however, wait forever downstairs at one of several tables where you can enjoy an appetizer of semi-microwaved edamame and wine from a box. (OR luke-warm sake, or a crappy beer--even though they have a full bar upstairs with a good wine and IPA selection) Even worse, this last visit, the wait in the dungeon wasn't even close to being worth it as the sushi and noodle bowls weren't all that and they were sold out of most of the deserts even though it was only 715 pm. I can't imagine their popularity will continue to last with the food quality slipping and the wait times unacceptable. read more
