This place USED to be good, as I've had brunch/lunch here several times in the past and it was an overall enjoyable experience. However, they've apparently hired a new chef and this place has changed for the worse. I ordered a salmon poke bowl, which I've had twice before and it was great then. Now, it's a bland bowl filled 3/4 the way with bagged shredded lettuce, low quality fish, and zero seasoning on anything. My wife waited 10 minutes for her cocktail, which the server forgot, so she had to wait an additional five minutes during non-peak service hours. Neither of us ate even half our meal during our last visit. Also, the server gave us the wrong check and even though it was $30 less than our actual total, I went to the front to bring it to their attention so I could settle our actual bill. Turned into a nightmare of swiping my card several times to cover a single meal over two separate transactions. read more

Stopped by this place by surprise and it was amazing. We had the Banana Lumpia, Loco Moco, Miso Mussels and Korean Chicken Wings. The Miso Mussels was by far my favorite dish, filled with flavor and butter. Follow by the Loco Moco (oh my goodness, this was delicious too). The beef patty, fried rice and egg were cooked to perfection. The Korean Chicken Wings were good but nothing too special. And the banana lumpia was sweet and scrumptious. Awesome wine selection, we had a bottle of a white wine from New Zealand and it was refreshing. The soju cocktails looked great too but we didn't other any. We had a DELICIOUS dinner tonight at this quaint spot in Oceanside thanks to their amazing sous chef, Matt! Our Ahi and salmon appetizers were beautifully prepared and tasted absolutely amazing! Every bite was delicious! The cornbread crusted Mahi and strawberry salad were equally as tasty! Mat prepared an incredible French toast, ice cream and fruit that we didn't think we had room for, but finished every last bite. Absolutely delicious! Came for dinner with the fam and had such a great experience, we can't wait to come back! Staff are super friendly, masked, gloved and take all the proper covid19 precautions. We dined in on the patio, everything was clean, maintained and I felt comfortable having my kiddos out there. Now on to the food -WOW! Everything tasted just as good as it looked. We ordered the loco moco, pork sando, mac n cheese, cheeseburger and banana lumpia. We shared the items to sample everything. The loco moco was big enough to share and the rice, gravy and burger patty were on point. The pork sando had a yolky egg with a brioche bun and it was amazing. The kids loved the burger and the spam mac n cheese. Im a big mac n cheese fan and this one did not disappoint. Also, the banana lumpia was so much better than I expected. We had been to The Switchboard several times before. Always enjoyed it. This time when we went it was pretty empty. One couple was just leaving and no one sitting at the bar. There were 3 employees at the bar. They seemed hesitant to seat us. After being seated no one came to take our drink orders for over 5 minutes. When we looked at the menu we noticed a change. Some items were no longer there. For an appetizer we ordered the beef lettuce wraps. We were excepting seasoned ground beef. It was tough slices of beef pretty bland. We got our entrees. My husband ordered the Hawaiian plate with pork belly. It was not good. And my husband who loves macaroni salad said it was not good either. We left pretty unhappy with our meal. I later read that the restaurant had changed hands and had a new chef. We won't be going back. read more

What a gem! Pleasantly surprised with this little place. We were greeted graciously to so sit either inside or outside. They probably can sit about 20? Direct access to The Fin Hotel (Hilton affiliated). We found parking just around the corner I was again surprised with the Hawaiian influenced menu. The staff (Kaylee) was always attentive, polite and graciously accommodating. I went against her recommendation and ordered the Da Kine Toast Sticks. I am sooo glad I did! The berry compote was absolutely delicious!! Everything we ordered was delicious and I -1 due to how tiny the place was but maybe I shouldn't have because they all were sooo helpful and food was SUPERB! My wife and I got there during a rush but the staff was polite and also gave us time to converse and enjoy a couple of very tasty cocktails. I think we ordered almost half the menu and I can't say there was one dish that I didn't like. The pork was really flavorful and the runny egg was perfect. It was served with a side salad that had delicious roasted tomatoes. The Switchboard Salad with chicken - The salad had a good variety of vegetables, and the dressing was delicious. The chicken was a good addition. I saw this place a few times driving past it and I knew I had to try it! I ended up calling in an order for pick up and whoever helped me on the phone was so friendly and patient in answering my questions. I appreciated that. I decided to try The Switchboard Burger that came with taro chips on the side. That burger was really, really good! The combination of flavors was not like anything you'll find around here. Sometimes when looking at a menu you think yeah, yeah another burger, BUT WAIT! This wasn't just any burger. I raved about it all day and have been wanting another one ever since. It was generously stacked though not haphazardly. I can't leave out the taro chips because they were perfectly crispy with just the right amount if salt. I honestly thought I would miss fries, but I didn't! I did see they have outdoor seating, which is all the rage nowadays. I walked in to pay (yes, with a mask on) and absolutely adored the interior bar and seating situation. I even asked where they got their chairs because they are fabulous! Just had takeout. I really wanted to love it but .. we had the plate lunch (Hawaiian inspired as advertised) Korean bulgogi was tasty; the Kalua pig was tasty but dry and no cabbage. Still we did enjoy it. However, the pie-- ( I was soo excited to have chocolate haupia!!! ) But I don't know what they served because it was plain awful . Perhaps we caught them on an off day? Chocolate haupia is one of my favorite pies! But this thing looked off to begin with (weird grey color ) and then I tasted it and actually spit it out in shock. It was terrible. Food is really good. We got the mussels and chicken for appetizers. Then the bacon burger, halibut - and loco moco. Everything was tasty but the halibut and burgers were over cooked, which was a bummer. Our server was nice, but pretty sure she was the only server for the whole place. Sunday brunch with a few hitches, but good teamwork helped keep the service moving. Seems like they are a new restaurant and still trying to get their feet under them. Menu was Hawaiian Inspired, with words like "keiki" and "polu", but the only island flair I saw in the food was a slice of pineapple and a flower as garnish. Sure you can order spam with your eggs instead of bacon, but I feel that is a choice very few would ever make. If you want to serve spam, go ahead and make a musubi, and embrace it fully. I felt like a tourist who was getting the watered down Americanized version of what true Hawaiian food could be. I understand this might be a hard market to fully dedicate a restaurant to more traditional Hawaiian food, however at least it would stand out from the rest (because there are three other solid restaurants with brunch options all within sight of your table.) I hope this restaurant can really find themselves because I felt there was a good spirit and a great sense of teamwork between front of house, back of house and owner. When service was getting slammed, the sous chef stepped out and help pick up the slack. All with a good attitude. I know you guys embrace the islands, so let's see it in your food. My husband and I had a date night tonight. We decided to try something new so we went to The Switchboard Restaurant. I had the Red blend and my husband had a blonde beer. We shared the katsu chicken appitizer, the sauce was yummy! Hubs has the burger I took a bite it was delish! I had the salad with chicken. Service was great. The only thing with eating outside on Coast Hwy is the noise from cars going just a few feet in front of our table making it hard to talk and listen. I am finally working at my office in downtown Oceanside and I see this new bar/ restaurant at has opened up by the Fin Hotel right around the corner from my office. They serve Hawaiian fare, I am intrigued! I got the Auntie Pua's Sando which was delicious and filling. The flavor on the pulled pork is amazing, great crunch from the slaw, delicious bun that was fluffy but also toasty, the exact right around of sauce and a runny fried egg and FRESH taro chips! Does it get any better?? Yes it does because the guy expediting everything and the waitress were so nice and friendly! I will definitely be coming here again ASAP to try more stuff including breakfast! read more

For two years, my wife and I used to absolutely love this place. In the past three months we've gone three times and noticed that not only is the food bad now, it's very different and has a distinctly bland and cheap feel. The third time, I had to ask the question and my fears were confirmed: they are recently under new ownership with a new chef. Adjacent to the lobby of the fin hotel I was a guest so was able to dine there for breakfast and for dinner First off the prices were great for the area. The servers were amazing and I was made welcome both times. The loco moco was delicious along with their strong coffee my day started off great. Every menu item has an Asian fusion and the spicy ness of the brown gravy with perfect with the egg and rice. I ordered the mac and cheese the next night along with a hard cider. Their patio seating made for a great breeze and their happy hour prices were hard to beat compared to what I've seen elsewhere.
