Oh sweet pretension. We had breakfast here on a Friday morning before hitting a market. We made a reservation, though it wasn't necessary. A bit oddly, although there were only two other people eating in the restaurant, they sat us right next to them, as opposed to a table for four. Is this part of the 'experience' of the namesake? I don't know, but it was a little weird. We ordered a Full English, the breakfast brushetta and french toast. The Full English was average- nothing really special, nothing disappointing. They were out of the french toast so we had blueberry waffles instead- which was just a waffle with a cup of blueberries on the side and pre-poured syrup. Kind of dry and plain. The breakfast brushetta came with (flaccid, undercooked) bacon I hadn't ordered (it's an optional add-on) and it took an extremely long time to be remade considering we were the only ones eating in the joint. The finished product was pretty tasty, though, if extremely simple (avocado and tomato slices on toast with two poached eggs). Waitress left in the middle of our meal without telling us, or apparently, anyone else. We wanted take-away coffees, but by the time we got someone'e attention, we were just ready for the bill. They charged me for the bacon I didn't order, but at that point I was just ready to get out and didn't bother correcting it. The opening comment is a result of the stereo system that have installed by the wall and the fact that they were playing Abercrombie & Fitch-style shit-tastic techno, extremely loudly, at 9:30 in the morning. WTF? We asked if they could turn it down a bit (only people in the restaurant) and they pretended to and went on with their business. I know, I get it--- one of my least favorite things as a waitress is when one customer in the whole damned restaurant tells me I need to adjust the temperature or the music volume. But seriously- 9:30? Techno? Empty restaurant? Gross. Overall, a bit awkward and disappointing, and I was more than a little bit embarrassed to have recommended this place to my visitors. read more

Its early in the morning, you happen to be around Southwark for the following reasons: a) you live round the area b) went for an early morning stroll/jog along the river Thames. c) after an intoxicating night out, you've ended up falling asleep on the Streets of London or b) meeting up with fellow yelpers If you're feeling a little peckish and you fancy treating yourself to some good quality food, then The Table is the place to be. The Table was not what I expected it to be. Soon as I walked in, I was completely blown away by the modern decor and calm atmosphere. The prices are sensible and the quality of the food is top. I got me eggs benedict, extra bacon and toast bread (I got abit excited) followed by a nice cup of early grey tea. Excellent customer service and I love the fact that staff are not in uniforms, it does not give that "systematic/chain type" image, which is great! Had the pleasure of meeting up with other yelpers. FINALLY - a place in London that serves brunch almost all day. Where have you been? Went this past weekend - had the corn fritters with poached eggs which were absolutely amazing. Hollandaise was perfect. Boyfriend had the full english which looked pretty good as far as the full english goes. Only disappointment was the banana bread which was a bit burnt and covered in syrup to I think cover up for the burning, so that was sad but I was so full from the awesome fritters that I didn't care. Admittedly disheartened but willing to make do given hunger pangs, the trappings of free Wi-Fi, and a staff unabashedly apologetic for mistakes reportedly unbeknownst till that day it was after several questions that an order was crafted and with good coffee, a rarity in England, soon in hand a short wait would see all three plates arrive at once...my fault for not specifying a more leisurely pace, or so it would seem. Obviously a touch more 'American' than many breakfasts that would follow it was largely with an eye on diversity that my meal took shape and although I personally found the famous fried corn to be far more filler than 'fritter' I'd be hard pressed to find fault in any of the rest - the black pudding toothsome and rich with its signature sapor while a crispy golden waffle shined under the savory sort of toffee not often seen on the other side of the Atlantic Undoubtedly a hearty meal even without other desired delicacies it was only after sampling the more regional fare that I finally delved into the oven finished pancake that came highly praised by my young server and with a toothsome texture rife in buttermilk beneath bursting berries, light yogurt, and molten dark chocolate suffice it to say my sweet tooth was satisfied...though I still hold a grudge considering the online menu continues to taunt with its offer of brunch figgy pudding at the time of this writing. read more

Can someone please just start up a charity for me to have breakfast/brunch here every morning? It would be ever so greatly appreciated. For real though- this place does an incredible breakfast/brunch, and somehow, although I hear horror stories galore about having to wait ages for a table (at The Table, ha! aren't they so witty!), every time I've come, the wait has been either non-existent or minimal. Which thank god, because I don't know how long I could wait to get my hands on their insane poached eggs and waffles! Although I've never tried their meat-based breakfast options, many brunching companions have, and all can testify to their goodness (honestly, seeing their Full Borough breakfast, I have, on occasion doubted my choice of vegetarian-ness). In addition, they do great lunch burgers and their fixed lunch is fabulous (although, with the fixed menu, it can be a little hit-and-miss if they happen to be serving something you don't particularly like). A particularly positive point of The Table's, is that when you order tea, instead of just bringing you a cup of tea, as most places tend to do, they bring you an entire pot of it (it helps that their pot is nice as well... what doesn't this place get right?)! I have had the Table on my list of places to go for brunch a long time and since it is the final weeks of living within easy walking distance I decided to go for it. Actually even reserved seats to be sure to get a spot. Was definitely a good idea as the place was packed already around 10 on a Saturday. It does not look like much when entering, I do more get a feel of chain such as Vapiano or Sig and Lettuce as the decor is very uninspiring. We were promptly seated, fairly uncomfortable high tables with nowhere to hang coats but fortunately we did not come here for the decor or seats. We quickly glanced at the menu and since I was really starving I went for the Full English. The pork and leek sausages were really great and the same for the tomatoes that were grilled but yet firm and flavorful (maybe it is just me but i struggle to appreciated most cooked vegetables as I often dislike the texture), the rest (mushrooms, beans, eggs and toast) were standard and the bacon was a bit disappointing as it was rather dry (not crisp). My better half went for the blueberry cream waffles and those were standard, nothing special at all. Did not even try to order the coffee as I had a look at the beans and quickly gathered that no amount of skill can produce good coffee from that type charcoal beans so ordered tea instead. The tea was ok but in general I expect a decent restaurant to serve loose leaf teas instead using tea bags. Update after the owner's little comment - I guess people's opinion of coffee may differ but that it is Allpress they are serving is at least no in my view a sign of quality (see my review of Allpress, http://www.yelp.com/biz/allpress-espresso-london-2#hrid:9M6ml8zOe5nONuBtlQynDg) but I am sure there are people who like it (I prefer other London roasters like Workshop, Tap or Notes every day of the week). So the food is perhaps slightly better than average but the prices are also a bit higher than average so in this area on Saturday I would rather walk over to the Maltby street market for Breakfast waffles or a stop at Bea's. read more

Nice place - light, airy, and casually elegant. The coffee was good, although there was an odd discrepancy between the price listed on the menu (£3 for a regular flat white) and the £2.50 we paid. I prefer the £2.50. Brunch was delicious, with the lemon sugar pancake serving as a reasonable substitute for our beloved lemon ricotta pancakes from Cafeteria in New York. And the corn fritters with poached eggs were good too, although the fritters could have used more corn and less dough. So I love this place. a thousand times over and over. It is on the street behind the Tate Modern and we came in at what was of course a very busy time - brunch on a saturday! We luckily got seated within 10 minutes and ordered a coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a cappucino. The Table is a short walk from Tate Modern and is geared towards the brunch market - waffles, pancakes, eggs etc. I had a vegetarian breakfast which included fresh and high quality ingredients, and also had some sweetcorn-based savoury cake which came with a tomato relish. Great place! I had the banana waffles and a cappuccino. Everything was hot and delicious. The service was good, very friendly staff. You can watch the cooks working. First thing I will say about The Table Cafe is that it is busy. If you can make a reservation then please do but if not the staff are super friendly and will do their utmost to squeeze you in. I mean that literally. While there are a few tables set for four the place is mainly made up of long sharing tables so unless you're a larger group it's very likely you'll end up sharing with strangers which can make things a bit difficult when it comes to who ordered what but more on that later. We were very lucky in that they were able to seat us right away but it did mean sharing a table of four with another twosome of diners. Our drinks order was taken very quickly and we were soon presented with a milkshake for my friend and my own glass of prosecco. A few minutes later we were also given a bottle of water which I thought was great given that we hadn't asked for it but I was quite thirsty so poured a glass only to realise after taking a sip that it was sparkling. It was at this point that the men we were sharing the table with mentioned to their server (who was different from our server!) that they hadn't been given their sparkling water that we put two and two together and figured out that the water we'd just been given was not in fact complimentary but was meant for them. Oops! Luckily the server understood and everything was quickly sorted. I can imagine that this happens quite a bit when they have different groups end up sharing as we were. To eat my friend went for the pancakes with crispy bacon, caramelised banana and Canadian maple syrup which she had been craving that morning and was the reason I stumbled upon this place on Zomato. For myself, while I wanted to be a bit more adventurous and try The Stack I really hate beans and didn't think it would be quite the same without them so ended up having the salmon and scrambled eggs. While not as good as my mums scrambled eggs (I've yet to come across any that are) these are definitely the closest I've found in London. They were light and creamy and just melted in your mouth. Every last morsel was cleared from both plates and if that doesn't convince you how good it was nothing will! It took a while for us to get the bill (the till ran out of paper just as they were trying to get some of them) and then even longer to pay but given how busy this place is it's not surprising that the service can slip a little at times. The Table is a nice modern breakfast place just 2 minutes from Tate Modern. I visited one saturday with a few friends. The place reminded me of the Ottolenghi on Upper Street. White walls, with long communal tables and bottles of wine on the shelves (but without the dazzling dessert display). The food is reasonably priced and very tasty. I had the scrambled eggs on toast. I got much more of the egg than i expected (it costs only £4). Even the others were happy with their orders ... ranging from simple eggs to smoked salmon. The only problem is that their billing system is a bit disorganized. Some people were asked to pay while ordering, some later. For those paying later, they frequently mixed up the orders. So you would do well to remember what you have eaten. To conclude, its a very useful place to go to for refreshments once in a while if you are living nearby or visiting Tate. read more

Really well done breakfast at The Table. I ordered the Full English and enjoyed their upscale interpretation of the original. All components of the dish were well conceived and well executed. I particularly liked the garlicky sausage (huge, the size of a bratwurst), the portobello with pesto, and the chipotle beans. Don't let the unique-sounding combination scare you off, it all worked wonderfully and I'd order it again. Also very well done was the cappuccino. The rest of the breakfast menu looked great. I admired the plates of all of my neighbors especially the avocado toast and eggs Benedict. The atmosphere at The Table has a neighborhood feel. There were a mix of families, business folks, friends, and a sprinkling of tourist such as myself. I'd like to give the Table 5 stars but there were two imperfections that must be taken into account. I think that my Full English breakfast was supposed to come with bacon, it did not. To be fair, due to the large portion of food, I didn't need any more and didn't ask about it. So, there wasn't a chance for them to clarify or fix it. Also, the service was a little on the cold side, not particularly welcoming. I ate a stupendous portobello mushroom and halloumi sandwich in here, which oozed pesto and mushroom juices. Corrr, just thinking of it makes me hungry. My friend had a disappointingly flavourless pasta thing which really needed salt. I think serving unseasoned, crappy pasta is such a heinous Food Crimes 101 mistake that my confidence in their food is a little shaken, but I would gladly go have that sandwich again and ogle the wonderful interior design and food presentation. I've been away from London for a little over 5 weeks, and decided to have a brunch catch up with the girls to gossip about the past few weeks. I did a quick google search for brunch just in london, haha we live fairly spread out, so are willing to travel up to 40mins. The Table popped up, and we decided to meet there at 12pm on a Sunday. I had expected to wait in line to be seated, as with most places that don't take bookings, you generally have to wait. My friends arrived early and managed to be seated right away, WINNING!!! Once i arrived, I was overwhelmed by the delicious looking food, and the amount of food on the menu. There was so much choice. I settled on the breakfast bruschetta, the other ordered the corn fittas, and the pancake with meats. The food came out fairly quickly, and the serving sizes are quite generous for the prices. Everything tasted amazing. I had food envy of the pancakes, and will definitely be back to order those. The only negative was when we wanted to leave and pay the bill, it took quite a lot of time. The Table cafe has a rather boring name and a mediocre to none front decor but if you could get past that you'll find yourself inside of a lovely breakfast spot. It's located on the rather lively Southwark St where you can find many other cafes but below I'll try to urge you to choose this one by telling my story. I was here the other day, came in by 9am and the place was rather full for a Saturday morning. I was feeling quite gourmand-ish and ordered the Full English. My friend went modestly with the pretty standard scrambled eggs option. My place came quite big and full of the assorted items of the English breakfast - all of it was delicious. I usually hate beans but I ate almost all of them so I guess this tells of the great food they serve here. My friend and I were both quite thankful and satisfied with our stay at The Table. I came in with some friends for brunch - I only had coffee as I had to dash off, but it was a good latte. The breakfasts looked very good, and got approving murmurs (this was not the first visit for one of my friends). It is done up nicely, with bare wood, light colour colours and a view through to the kitchen. There are large windows looking onto the road outside which keep it light and airy as well. I've been in SO MANY coffee places around the world, this is NOT a "coffee shop" or a "coffee house". First - the coffee not so good. It's OK, under the average. Anyway, when I only ordered coffee the waitress came every minute and tried to make me order food (although the place was totally empty, not like I was taking a spot of a "spender" who's waiting outside). I ordered some sort of desert which wasn't so good as well and kinda messed my stomach. Anyway, the vibe WAS NOT nice, coffee house should have very friendly with nice vibe. This place might be an restaurant, maybe with a small twist of "brasserie" and a "diner", but not a coffee shop. After a cold vibe from the staff, I didn't stayed long (although had my laptop and planned on working a little bit). If you looking for good place in LDN, I recommend "look mum no hands" and "Bar Italia" at the Soho. read more

I would rate this place 5 star if you're going for the pancakes. It's really great - fluffy yet with a good bite, solid flavor. Carmelized banana is expertly done with a nice bitter sweetness, and the crispy bacon with the perfect savory touch. Definitely would go back for the pancakes. However, other items on the menu were thoroughly disappointing. I had their burger and french toast and I would give both 2 stars. Burger - It was completely overcooked and bone dry. At midpoint it was just grey grey grey. I don't know what percent mince they use but they may need to up the fat content because even towards the end I was experiencing zero drippage. Fail. Their brioche was stale, dry, and rough with no bite at all. It tasted like they were feeding me gluten free bread but without the benefits of it actually being gluten free. The pickled onions completely overpowered my palate and I couldn't taste my meager ration of sauce or cheese. Bacon was pretty good though. The flavors may have blended better had the meat been more juicy, but at this execution nothing came together. Granted I came in at a later time so it may have been an off cook, but at 18 pounds for a coffee and burger I find this inexcusable. French toast - I'm not sure but I think they use the same rough brioche that they use in their burgers (?) They make a good attempt at flavor with a healthy dose of cinnamon and tart yogurt, but because of their low ball brioche game the texture is all wrong. Manages to be rough and dry yet soggy at the same time with none of the custardy yumness of a good french toast. This place is a one trick pony that does awesome pancakes but the off item are bad enough I don't have the courage to order anything else.... A very volatile 3 star average. read more

Brunch. That perfect meal after a lie-in on the weekend when you wake ravenous for breakfast foods but realise it's time for lunch. (Or in my case this past Saturday, the well earned reward for 3 hours of cycling and fitness training...I think the lazy way is preferable though...). The Table Café puts on a good spread at reasonable prices and doesn't fill up until mid afternoon. Based off the Telegraph's list of top picks for brunch in London, Tracy L and I decided to work our way down the list with The Table Café in Southwark being our first stop. The recommended dishes were the Table Stack (a toasted bagel with chorizo and poached eggs absolutely smothered in baked beans and a bit of hollandaise on the top) and the Sweetcorn Fritters with tomato compote. I'll give it to the Telegraph reviewers, both dishes were tasty and on the unique side of the menu. You can also get your usual range of pancakes and waffles with a wide variety of toppings as well as the Eggs series but that's standard for pretty much any brunch spot. The Table stack was fairly easy to eat with fork and knife (my biggest concern) largely due to the choice of bagel as the bread rather than a more standard bit of toast or English muffin. The elastic nature of the bagel allowed it to hold together and absorb considerably more sauce than it's carb counterparts. I have to note that the chorizo failed to make an appearance unless it was somehow blended into the beans. I would have like the spicy counter note to the rich creaminess of the eggs, sauce, and beans. Still, all in all, a good dish. The sweetcorn fritters were delicious. I'm a sucker for sweetcorn (and probably slightly biased) and these fritters were packed with juicy kernels exploding with sweet flavours. The fitter was golden brown and fried to a crispiness on the outside while maintaining a fluffy light texture on the inside. The tomato compote was full of umami and provided a great degree of acidity to enhance the sweetness of the corn. Dessert was had in the form of the Chockywockydoodah waffle which comes drenched in syrup, chocolate sauce, and marshmellows. All that needs to be said is that for two die hard deserters such as me and Tracy L, the waffle satisfied our sweet teeth without a problem and was decadent to the point where we couldn't finish. That never happens. Ever. Overall, a good experience despite a bit of a mix up on my smoothie (I order a mango and pineapple smoothie and it came out green as someone had added spinach) the customer service was spot on. Pricewise, our meal ran around £50-60 for the two of us including a drink but dishes are prices around £10-15 each so by all means an affordable option. read more

Perfect place for a Sunday brunch. I've only been once but I know this place has a loyal following as there was quite a queue outside even though the temperature was close to freezing! I usually look at menus and often decide what I'll order before arriving at a new place but on their website they have the weekday menu and the sweetcorn fritters I wanted weren't on the weekend menu. I'll have to go back during the week some time. I ordered the eggs florentine and it was delicious. I asked for the Hollandaise on the side and they kindly obliged. I ordered mustard and it's one of the best mustards I've ever tasted! I've tried to find it in supermarkets and online, but unfortunately I haven't found it yet. I had the pancake with caramelized bananas and bacon a few weeks ago. The pancake was fantastically fluffy (nothing earth shattering, however), the bananas were spectacular, but the bacon left much to be desired. It should be an international crime to mess up bacon. They advertised it as "crispy," and it very much met that description... so much that it was overcooked and ended up overpowering the rest of the dish! GET IT TOGETHER, THE TABLE, BECAUSE BACON IS IMPORTANT. Bacon philosophy aside, let's move on. Ambiance was nice. Well lit space with bench-style seating, which made for an enjoyably communal experience. Service was just OK. Smoothies were about 8-10oz... a waste of money @ £5 (this seems to be the status quo in London, unfortunately). All in all I love brunch and mostly enjoyed my meal, so I will definitely return the next time I visit. read more

This is a breakfast and lunch place, (also serves dinner too) it has a canteen style to it, and it gets very busy during lunch as there are so many workers about this busy area. It has these wooden bench style seats, but nothing like how it was in school, very clean lines, and simple, all about the food. They have freshly baked bread, soup and favorites such as risotto, pasta, chilly con carne, shepherds pie or quiche type as options. There really is something for everyone. I have been there for brunch and very much enjoyed their eggs benedict and American style pancakes.Very good taste, perfect for a quick lunch catch up with a friend, or even eat alone as I did. I had the Borough Full English and it was a hefty amount of food. Everything on the plate was cooked perfectly and all the right tastes were there. Mushroom was tender yet not soggy and the eggs were prepared just right. Expecting a line based on the popularity of this place on Yelp, I actually only waited about 10 minutes to be seated around Noon on a Sunday. I went alone and was seated next to a delightful "bachelorette party". It livened up the solo dining experience greatly. I actually ordered the food I did based on one of their party members doing the same. The vibe is good. Everyone was generally in a good mood. The place is bustling though so don't go expecting a calm, quiet atmosphere. The service could have been better overall but I hardly noticed as I wasn't in a rush nor did I mind continuing my conversation with my new local friends. My only recommendation to the restaurant is that they place a sign on the door that says "Push" as everyone, myself included, first attempts to pull as pushing would bump the door into someone waiting in line to be seated. All in all, after a few weeks in London, this was one of my more enjoyable meals. read more

A regular sunday brunch place of mine for a few years now. Big fan. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. They have a nice and varied brunch menu, and the pancakes are amazing, particularly the banana, syrup and bacon. The bacon itself is worth a mention, when it's done right it's fantastic, nicely crisped and charred - however on occasion (perhaps different chef) it has an off day. One slight criticism, the pancakes have gradually been getting smaller and smaller, when i first started coming here, they crept over the edge of the plate, now they fit squarely within it with an inch to spare. read more

Fluffy and crispy waffles, crispy bacon, fluffy eggs washed down with strong roast black coffee. In my jetlag haze, the waitresses were attentive, polite, and quick with service. A nice place for brunch if you're in the area. read more
