I've been here a couple times. They have a good selection of teas. Their scones are always delicious. The salmon burger was great too. I wasn't a fan of the orzo salad unfortunately; it was too tangy for my taste. I love the building and its history. The ghost stories are fun to hear about. I knew going into this it wasn't going to be a proper tea experience but I didn't think it was going to be such an epic disappointment. I ordered the Hudson tea service. I ordered the savory scone of the day along with the little sandwiches and dessert trio. Before the food even arrived the place had a weird smell. Once the food arrived the fate was sealed. The scone had no flavor but came with flour that hadn't been mixed properly. The finger sandwiches were either plain and no salt at all or over salted and overpowering. I ended up not eating the scone or the desserts, which looked utterly dry. The cream that came with friend's scones was not clotted cream but some sugary glop that is appealing to the American palate with lots of added sugar. Needless to say I won't be returning. read more

We absolutely adored our afternoon with the Tailored Tea. From start to finish, everything was beyond five stars. I met up with some workers for an afternoon of sipping tea (and spilling tea!). The tea menu was expansive. Luckily the food menu wasn't quite as complex. Our finger sandwiches and our scones were all lovely. The tiny teacups were a perfect touch. The room and decor all tied in nicely to the idea of a proper afternoon tea in a rustic kind of setting. I have a severe nut allergy, and one of the waiters was kind enough to explain the ingredients of every single pastry so that I knew what I could eat. He went above and beyond to make sure he didn't end up with a dead body in his establishment (and didn't have to do the accompanying paperwork as a result of said dead body). My only regret? The Tailored Tea has a cute little shoppe attached. We didn't get to check it out, but I'd love to go back soon! read more

I took my daughter here as a mother/daughter back to school date and was expecting a fun, pretty "out to tea" experience. It couldn't have been farther from that. After looking at photos shared and reviews I expected it to be completely different than it was. I don't normally leave reviews but I was so surprised and disappointed I hope I can give a heads up to someone else before they try it. The place was very dirty -- walls, tables, even the tea pots the tea came in were dirty etc. The table was wobbly and we were sat right next to a big blue dirty dish bin that wasn't concealed in anywhere way. They were completely out of all decaf fruity flavored tea, which was what we're looking for -- and our server was totally unapologetic about it and didn't try to come up with any suggestions of what to have instead. The food was not great -- my daughter ordered buttermilk pancakes and the consistency was very strange -- gummy but dry and also burnt. When I mentioned this our server just shrugged. My eggs had a funky taste as well. Some things weren't necessarily bad but seemed out of place for a restaurant called The Tailored Tea and not at all what i was hoping for or expecting. We ordered two small glasses of orange juice along with our breakfast and tea and they were served in giant plastic blender cups full of ice. Our server had baggy pants and a baggy tshirt with chain necklaces (totally fine to wear but seemed out of place at a tea house). It seemed more like a below average diner. read more

My first time here and I will not go back. We went for a bridal shower and I couldn't believe how dirty the dishes were. Our water pitcher had actual dried food on it and when we asked for a new pitcher because it was dirty we were told it was most likely hard water stains.... No I could flick the food off with my nail. Of the 6 tea cups at our table 5 were dirty. I will say the food was good but I just can't get past the dirty dishes. read more

My friends and I went here for a lunch date, we found it dirty and unkempt, especially the bathroom. One of my fellow diners ordered coffee, it was served on a very dirty warmer, it was replaced when brought to waiters attention. The absolute cutest tea place ever!! The staff was so friendly and kind, and accommodated my dietary needs. I am vegan and they made 3 different vegan scones and two vegan tea sandwiches. All I had to do was call ahead and ask! They were so friendly, accommodating and kind. The food was delicious! The two of us split the $30 option and it was more than enough food and we even to take some home. The tea selection was delicious, we recommend the mixed berry. After hearing how our waiter was having a bad week and didn't have a pencil to write with, we waited 25 mins for 2 iced teas. We placed our order - very simple - 2 half sandwiches with 2 half salads. One sandwich we asked to have the mayonnaise on the side. We waited another 25 minutes, and the tiny - one sauce of meat sandwiches came out and the one we asked for, mayo on the side was smothered in mayonnaise. This quaint tea room will always have a special place in my heart because I take my two daughters to a "tea party" here on my birthday each year. The building is right near the airport, and in a big beautiful old house. Your table is set with china tea cups and saucers - each one with a different design. You can get breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon tea. I got a half pot of the honey chai tea, which was very tasty. If you do not finish your tea, your server will gladly give you a to-go cup. The business is family-owned, and they are incredibly hardworking and nice. There are different scones each day, one sweet and one savory, and they are to die for. Today the options were blueberry (served with jam and cream), and garlic and herb. All the food is made to order, so it may take a bit longer, but it will be well worth the wait. My girls got the animal pancakes with powdered sugar and strawberries. I ordered the breakfast wrap. The side of roasted potatoes were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The wrap had egg, roasted red peppers, cheese and basil. Delicious. And I love when they grill the wrap - always a nice touch. I hear the business has to sell. Who has ever heard of tea being served using lukewarm water???? I flew for Pan Am for 12 years, was every week in the UK and ALWAYS had my tea served with water brought "just to the boil"! How else can the leaves be brought to "the agony of the leaves" stage?? Scone was dry and inedible. We've consistently had great food and tea at the Tailored Tea. It is now the only place where one can find a true, British style scone. The buttermilk scones are delicious and not ruined by frosting (!) as at other local places. However, they offer both savory and sweet scones also. Went as a group of 4 for a ladies afternoon tea outing. It is a quiet, small white house which appears to have tables downstairs and possibly upstairs for larger parties. It is very close to airport land facing a Midas and fire department on the Troy Schenectady x Old Niskayuna Road. It appears to be a wannabe countryside tea room with a few purposely mismatched tea cups and plates. The afternoon tea set is not inexpensive for what is served and only offered a certain time of day. A few three tier sets brought to our table for sharing amongst our tea sipping table held a few mini tea sandwiches, a scone with clotted cream, and a selection of cupcakes, cheesecakes, and a few blueberries. Not very generous in amount for what it was worth and tasted sub par. I think I'd be able to create the 3 tier at home with help if any from my kid nieces and nephews. The kettles of tea we had were adequate for a few cups per person but the choices were also slim. We were quite disappointed to say the least and after conversation we thought there would be a better and more fulfilling tea room across the river we could visit another time. It's sort of like seeing a pretty handbag from afar but realizing it is a replica with all the wrong details. We arrived at 1:30 on a Monday and it was pretty empty. We ordered the Hudson Tea plus an extra pumpkin scone. The sandwiches are pretty small which we were prepared for and the scones were dense. As our server warned us, we ended up taking home a scone and half the desserts. The food was delicious and the service was great. Our server was chatty and attentive. Oye...We bought a Groupon for this place and did not make a reservation (Groupon did not state to make a reservation.) We walked on in at 2:30 pm and asked for a table for two. The hostess told us that if we did not have a reservation that the next available table would be at 4 pm. Since we had to drive quite a bit to get here, we went back to our car, called in and made a reservation. The lady who answered the phone told us 3 pm would be perfect for us to come. Why the discrepancy? I am not sure. We walked back in at 3 pm and no one greeted us (maybe because we had already been greeted 30 mins ago and told to come back at 4?) after waiting for 20 mins trying to get someone's attention, they finally sat us down. We got scones and tea and while the tea was good (hard to mess up tea leaves and water), the scones were dry and did not taste fresh. The food that others around us had ordered also did not look appetizing either so I'm glad we didnt opt for the lunch option. Our waitress was Sav and she customized a salad for my fiancé since he did not want the beets in the George Gershwin salad. Sav was honest to say that the beets are pretty much the bulk of the salad and without them there won't be much besides the leaves. She offerred to create a salad that wasn't on the menu to include cucumbers and tomatoes. We also ordered 3 sandwiches and 2 scones each and received several desserts to share including cheesecake bites, a biscotti, and a cookie. Our order also came with 2 half teapots of tea. I WAS one of the Tailored Tea's biggest fan but will NEVER go there again and cannot recommend more highly AGAINST your going. Saturday morning, I arranged to meet a friend who had never been there and to whom I had often mentioned how much I enjoyed it. When my Irish Breakfast Tea was served, it was tepid, like dishwater, When I asked the waitress for a fresh pot, she told me that since COVID, they no longer boil water for tea, but use the water lever in the coffee maker. (This explanation made no sense since it is impossible to see how or why COVID would affect the ability to boil water, either on the stove or in an electric tea kettle, but nonetheless...J Not only was the tea tepid because it was not made with boiling water, Jared, the chef/owner, argued with me about my EXPECTING tea to be made with boiling water, saying that only Americans expect boiling water, that actually in England, tea is served at 180-195 degrees. He also said, snidely, that it would have been nice if I had told them we would not be staying before he came out with the food, However, when I asked the waitress for hot tea and she offered me a second candle to warm the pot --where would a second candle even go?!--I specifically asked her to talk with Jared because I could not imagine he would offer the same solution. When she reported that he too said they could only offer a second candle, I then asked to speak with him personally. That is when he came out with the food and reiterated that they could not provide boiling water and that only Americans expect their tea to be served that way, etc. That is when we decided to leave. First, a place that holds itself out as a tea establishment was unable to serve me a cup of hot tea with my breakfast and thought that was okay. Second, the owner/chef never once apologized for that or any of the other minor issues (eg, my friend's coffee looked like tea when served). We have been here a few times with the kids, as a special treat on summer break. I would describe this as a sort of rustic, homey sort of tea place, not higher end. The main tea rooms are basically a single room in a house, with several tables and chairs. It is cute, more like a bed and breakfast. There is an eclectic range of tea cups and tableware, and you won't find matching tea sets on your table. Last time we visited, understandably they were busy, but the server was a bit abrupt with us. I work retail, so I get being completely overwhelmed. But in retail you still need to be friendly and welcoming in a place of business. When I dropped off my daughter, I think my 10 year old and her grandmother were a little taken aback by the attitude. We had purchased a Groupon for High tea, a nice experience, regardless of the server not being friendly. It was well over an hour (dropped them off at 1:45, done at 3:38pm). They enjoyed their soup, teas, scones and desserts. I sampled some of the items on the way out and wasn't particularly impressed, but I think it is more of the experience. I must've had the Tailored Tea on my list of places to go for a few years now. So when I saw the Groupon available for the Historic Hills High Tea, I jumped on it as an excuse to finally go. The Tailored Tea is housed in a historic farmhouse that was built in 1785 and there was plenty of parking in their lot. We went on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have any reservations, but we didn't have trouble getting seated. The decor was rustic and flowery, with mismatched china and tea cups, similar to other places that I've been to for high tea. The Historic Hills High Tea included a salad or soup, choice of three tea sandwiches, two scones with a side of clotted cream, a sampler of mini desserts, and choice of 1/2 pot of tea or other beverage. The service was a little slow in between getting our pot of tea and the first plate of food. They probably don't want to rush you, given the experience, but it's good to know so that you don't show up extremely hungry thinking the food will be quick. The food positives: The Tailors' Favorite salad was delicious, tiny sandwiches were good, and the pot of tea was wonderful. I don't think I've ever had so much tea in one sitting. The food negatives: assortment of mini desserts were pretty dry. I think I had a bite of each and didn't care to have anymore. And I've rarely enjoyed scones as they're too dry for my taste, but the clotted cream that accompanied it was good. I know tea sandwiches are supposed to be small, but I felt that these were even smaller compared to others tea sandwiches I've had before. Overall, high team is a nice experience and I think we received a very good value with the groupon, but next time I wouldn't get the Historic Hills High Tea. I'd opt for a salad and/or a sandwich and tea and skip the scones and mini desserts. I ordered a Benedict on a scone and it's like they reheated it or something. My plate came out and was a messy puddle of butter. It was gross. I found this place on Groupon, otherwise I probably wouldn't have known about it. It's not in a very populous location, but once you pull your car into the lot you can appreciate the isolation, beautiful location, and repurposed older home more. The tea room definitely utilizes the older home ambiance to it's advantage. The actual dining area is a little tight, but wasn't too busy when we went. The tea selection was not the biggest I've seen, but there certainly wasn't a lack of creative diversity. I ordered a half pot of Chai Tea which came in a cute green teapot over a small tea light. The tea was delicious, exactly what I'd expect from a chai tea. We went for the High Noon Tea package which came with the pot of tea, soup or salad, a selection of scones, tea sandwiches, and a selection of desserts. It was all presented in the classic tearoom set-up. The tea sandwiches were simple, but appropriate. The scones were plain but classic and appropriate with the clotted cream and preserves. "Leisurely" is such a delightful word. One could say, go for a "leisurely" stroll along a promenade along the river, ambling all the while, having a pleasant chat. Or, one could be "leisurely" about filing your taxes and end up in jail. Somewhere in the middle is Tailored Tea, with a leisurely approach to the high tea. As the only patrons in the restaurant at the end of the day (by the time the food finally came, at least), we weren't exactly in a hurry, but waiting nearly 40 minutes for some pastries (warm, maybe fresh-baked? delicious) and tiny sandwiches seemed somehow not as carefree as one might hope. With various delays (some on the part of our own party, to be sure) we ended up stretching it into a nearly two hour visit, which may be a grand value if you look at it in terms of minutes of experience per calorie consumed. We do very much enjoy the historic building, the chatty owner, and the excellent food. The tea is brewed a bit thin, and while I hate to dwell on such things -- as a member of, apparently, the leisure class -- nearly $100, with tip, for high tea wares (four adults, sharing three servings, plus two children) of any ilk seems a bit excessive. We had high tea at the Boston Public Library a while back, which was just as authentic, half as expensive, and four times as fast. As noted elsewhere, it does not quite take full advantage of its location right on the end of the runway, but the building's orientation and the lack of a deck build out probably preclude this. Nevertheless it was a disappointment to the younger members of our party and at least one older one. We did like things like the mismatched but delightfully sundry china, the display cabinets in the rooms, and the practically colonial room organization (more like a tavern than a tea room it must be said.) Again I would emphasize that the overall quality was excellent and the ambiance fairly exquisite. I just can't say that the exquisitely excruciating amount of time we spent waiting quite made up for it today. We've been tempted to try it for lunch but can't afford that much time in the middle of the day. It shall remain, therefore, only a special occasion destination for us, but if you have the time, the scratch, and want to experience something a bit out of the ordinary, here it is. read more
