We love this place. It's really great organic food . You will be greeted in a very nice casual but comfortable dining room. There are always plenty of delectable choices. You will be greeted by Keanne the owner and sister of the chef. Love! It's a small restaurant run by two sisters, and it always feels like I'm eating at a friend's house. The food was so delicious that my carnivorous boyfriend didn't even notice that everything he ate was vegan. The menu isn't that long, but it feels overwhelming for a vegetarian to actually have so many options. They don't have any booze, but you can BYOB for a fee. Just ate here last night after wanting to try it out for a long time. I'm not totally vegetarian and I am a bit of a foodie, but I try to do mostly plant-based meals. The ambience is cute and intimate, with art hung all around. Absolutely no complaints about the service. Our waitress was kind and our food came out promptly, and the owner took a good amount of time talking to us about the food. Then, the food. I had the raw verde 'tacos' which was 3 leaves of fresh chard, each filled with a mound of fresh vegetables, avocados, salsa, and then a meaty thing that was delicious that I couldn't identify. I asked what it was and she said it was coconut meat, marinated. Super cool since I could have sworn it was chicken at first. Also had the raw carrot/avocado soup which was superb. She juices carrots and then purees it with avocado, making a chilled soup. My mom had the sweet potato wedges with delicious seasoning and chipotle dipping sauce, the hot pumpkin soup, and the veggie rolls (kinda Vietnamese style). For dessert we split the persimmon-ginger chia pudding which was out of this world. So all of that, with 2 glasses of hot tea, was about 50 bucks. We both left feeling satisfied and super healthy, not overly stuffed but the flavors were memorable. It's not cheap enough to go too often for me, but after speaking with the owner it made sense why it isn't cheaper. Almost everything is organic, most of it is locally grown and not imported, and she uses things like cilantro oil, coconut meat, and juiced carrots (juicing a cup of organic carrot juice uses like 2 pounds of carrots, believe me...). So I think their prices are as affordable as they can make them while maintaining the quality. It was extremely clean food, I felt really good after the meal. They also do a meal pick-up once a week that is about 60 dollars/week for 4 entrees, 2 salads, 2 pints of soup, and a dessert. I'm getting my mom that for Christmas! The service is very good and very friendly. But when it comes to the food, it's just awesome !! We went there several times and every time I can safely say I had a great dinner. The food is not heavy at all and super flavorful but most importantly it's really creative. If you're looking for a new experience, or trying to discover vegetarian food the right way, you have to try it. I have the cauliflower steak and honestly it was so flavorful my taste buds were humming an hour after I was done with the meal. My hubby and I went here after my daughter gave us a raving review about it. We were not disappointed! Let's start with the appetizer.....we choose the Crispy Smashed Potatoes and Brussells. It was delicious! The potatoes and brussell sprouts were cooked perfect. The sauce on top was so good. For our main course I had the Portobello Mushroom Wellington and my hubby had the Miso Eggplant. After two bites of my mushroom Wellington my husband asked me how it was? My answer to him was" it's like heaven in my mouth". The pastry, mushroom and other vegetables were seasoned and cooked to perfection. My husband loved his meal ( he is not a vegetarian) . I do not like coconut and my husband's food came with a coconut rice and I really liked it. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better we ordered dessert. We were lucky enough to have the carrot cake. Moist, moist, moist and like everything else seasoned perfectly. While waiting for our food we admired the food going by our table. Everything looked and smelled amazing. The staff was friendly and always made sure we were taken care of. The owner told us that they were changing the menu stating the 19th. Just went there tonight for my birthday meal. It was probably the best birthday meal I have ever had - vegan or not. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was excellent- thanks Jesus (that was our server's name). I saw that you can bring your own wine in. Which we intend to do the next time. The restaurant interior was beautiful with chef's paintings and a local artist's wall hangings. My husband and I split the blueberry cobbler and the chef wrote happy birthday on the plate. Very good, inventive but not weird vegetarian food. The dishes are carefully thought out and prepared. I was a bit worried to see several "stacks" on the menu, having seen too many disappointing ones elsewhere in the past, but they do them well here, not ridiculously tall, and very pretty. The flavors are complex and interesting, the produce perfectly fresh and delicious, and the staff extremely knowledgeable and eager to make accommodations for all of my various food requirements. The dining room is simple and comfortable, not large but not claustrophobic with good spacing between the tables. Our two non-vegetarian friends loved it and want to return. Stumbled across this little gem on a recent trip to Tucson. We had the shredded coconut tostada. Wow, delish! My daughter went for the pasta with cashew sauce and I had the eggplant dish. I made my first but not last visit to the Tasteful Kitchen this evening and it was awesome. I started off with a fresh organic juice served in a small martini style glass. The juice was made from beets, apples and ginger. (there was another ingredient, but for the life of me can't remember it). This was followed by the Creamy Carrot and Avacado soup and a fresh salad of greens with red peppers, mushrooms, carrots, sliced appled in a ginger based dressing. Made reservations for this weekend, it was that good and fresh....tempted to deduct a star because they were out of the Mean Green Ice Cream and Lemon Basil Sorbet, but hopefully it will be there on Saturday to try, sounds really good....I didn't experience any negativity from the wait staff, in fact I found all 3 to be friendly. read more

I invited 2 friends to join me last night at the Tasteful Kitchen. We had a great time! I had the choice of a vegan cooked or raw food or a mix of both. Two of us had the raw food 4-course dinner complete with appetizer and dessert! Sushi rolls, 2 varieties of zucchini spaghetti with alfredo and pesto sauces, a raw lasanga, strawberry cheesecake and delicious little drinks with each course. The cucumber, honeydew melon and mint apperitif was outstanding and so light and fresh. Oh, and collard wraps completed the courses. We were so full and felt so healthy. I'd love to see this restaurant filled to max each evening. Also, the ladies cater and I am waiting for my next class or party to have them create something special for my guests or students. Tremendous asset to Tucson's plantcentric dining world, its culinary scene in general. The decor and flatware are a bit off the mark, if only because the food is so elevated. Every dish we had was perfectly prepared; a rare combo of interesting flavors, textures, use of traditional veggies. Service was spot-on: from the busser refilling water (which was correctly served room temp; filtered was a bonus too), removing plates, checking in at appropriate times. This restaurant was such a disappointment. First of all, the waitresses were very snobby with their noses in the air as soon as we walked in. If you want a good tip, then be courteous and not have a stick up your behind. Second of all, for two dollar signs, I expect $12-$15 a plate, not $20+ for one plate. For the horrible location and supposedly good atmosphere, you'd think they'd be better about how nice their employees should be. Just for these reasons alone, I'm giving one star because I was disgusted by the service. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

The tasteful kitchen is probably my favorite restaurant in Tucson since it is the one restaurant where I (a vegan) actually has a nice choice of menu items to choose from. I experienced the service positively, the raw foods chef (I forgot the gentleman's name) was very chatty in a nice way and the lady doing the service was nice too. I guess this place is about the food and not the service, which, in my eyes is totally fine (being born and raised in Germany, standard American service is almost a little too much for me. This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Everything was uber delicious. The carrot and avocado raw soup was fabulous and I loved the croquette and spring roll appetizers that our party shared. The ratatouille was out of this world! The portions are substantial - you will leave VERY full and satisfied. Make sure you make reservations and that you enjoy the people you are with as the service can be slower due to the crowd.
