Ok so I had driven by this restaurant so many times, didn't think much of it...until I decided to give up meat for Lent and now hunting for vegetarian dining options around town and decided on The Tasteful Kitchen. Restaurant: parking is in the back on a gravel lot and the entrance is also in the back. The atmosphere is very intimate and cozy. There are paintings and pieces of stained glasses decorating the walls (which you can actually buy). Food: there are about 5-7 small plates and main dishes and one special feature dish. I got the papaya salad and spaghetti squash (the special of the night) and it was super flavorful and delicious. My hubs got the asparagus soup and portobello Wellington and basically cleaned his plate in 5 mins. We were both extremely impressed with the service and how wonderful the food was prepared and how filling it was. Additionally, we each got their mock tails and those are to die for! They mindfully source their food and cook them mindful of spices oils, everything healthy, healthy fats, healthy spices everything used in moderation and farm fresh from farm to table portions are huge. I am so happy to find their meal delivery service! I have tried other meal delivery services which were fair to good but this is so much better than anything out there!! The service, convenience, ease of ordering, meals and the variety of offerings are all A+++. There is no preparation, just heat and eat! This is the best vegetarian restaurant in Tucson. Most of the items in the menu are vegan and gluten free. We were traveling and passing by and came 2 times to enjoy the creativity of the Chef. The first night, we had the 4-course dinner. I enjoyed the Miso Eggplant plate. Hubby had the Green Chile Polenta plate. The dessert was Apple Spiced Crumbled with blueberry sauce. Yummy, yummy, yummy! The 2nd night I ordered the Korean BBQ Cauliflower Bites. Oh my! I just kept eating it because they were sooo gooood. Hubby doesn't like cauliflowers so I ate them all by myself. The only reason I give one star is how slowwwwww everything went. We came here for a surprise birthday party and set reservations for 730pm. The girl we were surprising didn't show up until 800pm but at that time we still were not seated yet so we weren't able to surprise her at the table. It was incredibly hot inside the restaurant. We ordered food which took a while but they had forgotten two dishes and we had to remind them about the two other individuals after most people had already finished eating. Waters also took a long time for refills unless we asked even though the restaurant was emptying out and was almost empty by the time we got seated and had food on the table. One of the servers also told us we would have one room to ourselves but we ended up sharing the room with two other parties (which is totally cool but they didn't have to say that if it wasn't true). Cauliflower steak was amazing! Their signature dish is the eggplant but all of us liked the cauliflower steak the best and felt that the eggplant dish was mediocre. My guest and I enjoyed a nice elegant dinner while visiting Tucson. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was fresh and delicious. Almost everything on the menu was vegan. The decor was elegant and cozy. My guest and I ordered the collard green wrap appetizer. Seriously mind-blowing freshness and flavor. Absolutely delicious. I ordered the beet burger. The burger itself was good as well as its accompaniments. I did not care for the sauce on the burger which seemed to have horseradish in it. My guest ordered the herb roasted cauliflower dish which was served with roasted tomatoes, pesto, potatoes and collard greens. Ah-mazing. The sauce on the cauliflower was so good! Well deserved review, like really! While in Tucson for a business trip I come across The Tasteful Kitchen. First, make sure to make a reservation, they rarely take walk in, we were lucky as a walk in or probably looked extremely tired or hungry, lol. It's quite hidden in Tucson, AZ. You'll park in the back not the front street, and you'll see the orange house. Everything in Tucson is very personal and cute. Enough parking, just an FYI. The restaurant is not big but has enough tables, but the waiting is tiny, but they do offer sitting outside. A unisex restroom kept clean next to the waiting area. Now, beauty is in the food. Holy, mother earth, I would drive 6.5 hours just to go back and eat. Their food is the bomb, no lie. It's the bomb! My favorite starter is the jicama street tacos, and sushi rolls, and the blueberry basil drink. For Entrée the Cauliflower steak is to die for which will come with a soup or salad. It makes you never miss the meat again, everything was well thought when creating this dish. Big enough to share, or just pig out as I did. Dessert: Banana bread, and holy mother of all desserts, these dishes have nothing on Morton's steak house and priced amazing without making you go broke. Vegetarian / vegan food does not mean boring bland food or just salad and tasteful kitchen proves it by their flavorful, delicious and appetizing plant-based food. The menu is very creative, unique but limited. The recipes seem to be inspired by many different cuisines from all over the world. For example, the appetizer special for the day we dined were peppers sauteed with garlic and sauce, a very much asian style recipe and very delicious as well. Their signature cauliflower steak seemed to be Italian style and was really flavorful, yummy and filling. If you'd like to eat mexican they have tacos and if you'd like to eat japanese, they even have a vegetarian sushi for you. The mocktails on the menu were not that impressive but the desserts are pretty good. Don't leave without tasting the chocolate covered dates stuffed with pecan. I wasn't aware it's not a place you go to when you're pressed for time, but that staff was so accommodating with getting us our food out fast, yet still tasty and fresh. We both opted for the blue corn crusted cauliflower with a salad. The salad tasted fresh and the vinaigrette was light and tasty. The main dish also had sweet potatoes and other veggies. While I'm not vegan or vegetarian, I found my cauliflower steak to be excellent. Cooked just right with great flavors and a delicious sauce. Asparagus and potatoes on the side were also great. I enjoyed the carrot cake for dessert too. Their $7 cork fee is very reasonable (where I live it's typically $30!). Service was good, and having one of the owners come by and talk with us a few times was also a nice touch. All the food was great and I'd return for that (and I give the food 4 stars!). However, I removed a star because they charge a 3.9% to pay with a credit card. For a restaurant that charges $20 an entree, I find it ridiculous to pass this cost on to customers in this way. I've never seen a restaurant at this price point do this to customers. It left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended) after an otherwise good experience. I suggest that instead of charging a fee to pay with a credit card, they instead build the fees into the cost of their dishes to improve the experience of credit card paying customers. read more

If I had my own restaurant, I'd definitely hire him. The food was fantastic. The menu is very limited, but all the options sound amazing. You also have the option of doing a four course meal. Soup, salad, main course, and dessert. They were also running a trio special, appetizer, main course, and dessert. I had the trio which had jalapeño poppers, pumpkin cranberry pecan tamale with rice and beans, and then dessert was some kind of banana loaf (don't quite remember). Let me start by stating I am not vegetarian, but I could easily become one if all vegetarian food tasted like this! This place is so quaint and nicely decorated, visually - a truly lovely little restaurant. It is owned by two sisters. We came for a friends birthday, there were 11 of us - and they had a lovely big round table set up for us off the little main dining room. The friend whose birthday we were celebrating is on such a restrictive diet that it was refreshing to know that she has a place to eat where she can order at least half of what is on the menu. (she loves this place, and has attended a cooking class they offer). Many of us are far from vegetarian, but I think all of us were impressed with the food. My hubby is a steak and potatoes guy and even he commented on how flavorful the food was. Foodwise: We started with the green chile quesadilla's which were DELICIOUS, I couldn't believe how yummy they were with squash and chile. My husband ordered the full Thai (or Asian - can't remember the actual name of it) peanut salad which was huge and tasted pretty darn good. I had their special which was roasted vegetables and Quinoa and it was outstanding. My girlfriend ordered their vegetable ratatouille since she and I decided to nibble off of each other's plates and that was actually my favorite, VERY robust in flavor. Other's at our table ordered the microbiotic plate, the potato stack (called something else on the menu) and spaghetti two ways. For dessert - those of us none vegan's were happy to see two "classic" desserts listed on the menu - the one that jumped out was the Carrot Cake. One of the sisters who was serving us told us that it was her Mom's recipe. It was not disappointing and SOOOO yummy. The best part about it was she doesn't put raisin's in it which I appreciate since I feel raisin's have no place in a carrot cake. If there was a restaurant that I was predestined to love, it had to be the Tasteful Kitchen. I love veggies. I like the diversity of taste, texture, and colors that veggies present. Even though I'm not a vegetarian, I could outlast, with only vegetables and fruit, an average bear or an average U of Arizona grad. Two friends and I tried this restaurant based on my suggestion. As I got out of my car, I was greeted with pleasant smell from the restaurant. It was nice and smelled all so familiar like my Mom's cooking. The view of the restaurant was also so special. The mural lit by the a pair of bright lights was strikingly energetic. The reataurant was cozy and the staff greeted immediately with a welcoming smile. There were original paintings and arts on the wall to make this restaurant seem more organic. The visual setting is a high class restaurant, with nice thick glasses and nicely folded napkins. ( do replace those horrible metal chairs please.) The items on the menu looked appetizing. The menu claimed that it takes 1 1/2 hours to enjoy the four course meal. (I plan on taking a bottle of wine next time to enjoy the experience more). We all ordered different 4-course meals and shared each other's plates so that we can fully appreciate the dishes. First, the presentation was immaculate! Each dish was carefully and meticulously arranged in color and in structure. The garbanzo soup was delicious. The salad didn't disappoint either. The main meals all came beautifully presented. (See pictures). Well done! However, the taste of the main course was not what I had expected. It seems, although well prepared, the meals were too far removed from its organic nature. All main courses were prepared to look and feel like meat-based entrées, and by doing so they lost their organic form and taste. This was a disappointment. The dessert was also disappointing as well. The banana cake was too dry and the chocolate dates were too sweet. The carrot cake was the best out of the three. Overall, the presentation is superior. The effort to create the meal is commendable. However the main course went too far away from the pure beginning and lost the core of vegetables. It could have been so much better. (I do think those who like French cooking may enjoy their main courses more than I did.) I do have high hopes for this wonderfully different place and will visit again some time in the future. Ate here for the very first time tonight and I have to say it was really good! What I love most about this place is how you can really taste the freshness from just the first bite. To start off, the Sweet Potato Wedges was really soft and subtle and by pairing it with the chipotle tahini aioli dipping sauce, gave it a blast of both the sweetness and spiciness that even someone who are usually not a big fan of spicy food would defiantly enjoy. I have been wanting to check this place out for quite a while. My schedule makes it a little challenging to frequent restaurants during normal dinner hours. Because of this, I have missed them in the past. This time I was determined and we sat on a bench outside for half an hour waiting for them to open. It was definitely worth the wait! Nearly everything is vegan, and most options are gluten-free. My daughter and I ordered a bit of everything with the idea of sharing. What ended up happening is we ate enough to leave there very full and we both had meals for the next day. I highly recommend this approach so you don't miss out on anything. Besides, who doesn't love having their lunch packaged for tomorrow? Even so, if you are just looking for a meal with no doggy bag, there is an offer for dinner that includes drink, an appetizer, your choice of main course, and dessert for a very reasonable price. Found this place by accident... and am blown away. Best experience outside of city o city in Denver for truly inspiring vegetarian cuisine. Gourmet, tasty, but not trying to imitate meat dishes with substitute ingredients. We had the Portobello mushroom Wellington with cream of asparagus soup. The soup had just the perfect savory edge and not sure I have ever tasted better. Wellington pastry is the perfect mix of flaky buttery flavor and the mushroom was cooked to perfection. The crab patties have a fantastic flavor and texture and are vegan friendly. Desert was unbelievable... chocolate sauce on home made banana spice bread with fresh strawberries. Love the concept and any time we find a place with a focus on plant based elevated options we are in heaven. Something was off though. Especially when you see the photos here first and then expect the same. The pics of eggplant miso here looked so interesting but our dish looked more like my own home made attempt to replicate it. None of our food was plated as artfully as represented so it felt a bit like a bait and switch. As for the taste, I expected more curry flavor and the eggplant had a bit of a not quite finished being cooked rawness that was unpleasant. The chef whim was some convoluted tart with an oddly random array of ingredients that made no sense being put together or on a tart, especially when they're too watery so the pastry turned to push. There was cumin overpowering the natural earthy flavors. Also really disappointed that waiter stated everything was farm to table but the beets seems like fresh out of a can, not like fresh roasted. The soup was a basic vegetable but with nothing unique or imaginative about it. Maybe something as simple as how the veggies were prepped, if more Artfully diced or contemplated would have helped here. This was more like soup my nana makes with haphazardly chopped carrots and a dull knife I felt like most dishes needed some sort of fresh herb like cilantro or dill to bring them to life. They also needed prep like how Japanese restaurants can shred, dice, julienne, mandolin finely to create visually stimulating presentations. Lastly, the place felt stuck between wanting to be a "nice" bistro or just another hole in the wall vegetarian place. It seems they'd like this to be a fine dining type experience, but that's incongruous with silverware is just a notch above disposable. I think this place has potential for sure. I'd recommend the chef check out "Plant, Food & Wine" in Venice Beach, CA to see what the upper register in this type venue can be. They do a good job of trying to keep their food processed to the minimum with good taste to the max. Remembering that will help you appreciate what you're eating as you're eating it. Here are the dishes I've tried and what I think about them. Korean BBQ Cauliflower Bites. BEST IN THE WORLD EVER. GET THESE. Forget all else. Order two dishes for yourself. Order more for your friends. In fact, just make this meal into a cauliflower bite party. These cauliflower bites are expertly flavored and have a wonderful crisp texture on the outside. The flavor is not lost on the inside, even with a larger piece of cauliflower. My boyfriend is not vegetarian so he had his reserves about this place. But when he ordered this dish he said he could possibly see himself going vegetarian/vegan if he had more food like this. Score for The Tasteful Kitchen! TK Sushi Roll. These weren't bad, I don't remember being particularly impressed by these. No harm in trying something new, I'd say. Sunflower Street Tacos. Not my favorite. The cauliflower was spiced too bitterly for my tastes. The radish-slices taco shell was interesting. The sauce on top was also incredibly good. Unfortunately, the bitterness overpowered everything. Muddled Mocktail. Not my favorite either. It's something like carbonated water with blueberries in it. A bit too much bite with not enough sweet. If I had any recommendations to the restaurant, I would ask that the waiter/waitress step into the lobby more often. It was a bit of a waiting game to hope that they would stop by for us to request the check, take-out boxes, etc. But the staff is very kind and hospitable. I remember coming in while they were closing down early (not enough customers) and they said they would be able to offer us their appetizer menu at least. On another occasion they were having problems with their A/C (it was too cold) and they reminded us that we could ask to raise the heater up if we wanted. Super nice. read more

Excellent food. Seriously, almost every bite was incredible. Table favorites were: the sushi roll, krabby patties, the eggplant miso entree, the shrub soda drink, and the chocolate-covered dates. BUT the service was super awkward, bordering on rude. And with so many other good choices for food these days, I won't tolerate that. Examples: I asked for help making a decision between three entrees and was curious what the server would recommend. His reply was: "I don't want to be responsible for you not liking something... you're an adult, be an adult and choose." Then, a friend asked what one dish was like and he replied: "it tastes exactly like it sounds. Read the description." There were so many more zingers from the server that we just had to laugh it off and roll our eyes to not have the whole evening ruined. And finally, even though I called ahead of time and asked if they could take a party of 7, one hour before closing time (to which the restaurant replied "yes, we're slow right now, please come."), we were seated and immediately and heard grumblings from multiple employees about how they sent most of their kitchen staff home and how the chef was frustrated a big party came in late, etc... So next time save me the trouble. If your restaurant can't handle a 7-top without making it known to the customer how understaffed you are, how pissed off your chef is about us being there an hour before closing, and without an incredibly rude and awkward server making us cringe every time he opened his mouth... just tell us you're busy. Tell us you're booked. Tell us not to come because you just let your sous chefs went home and without anyone to prep you can't handle the rush. Then at least I'd understand. I would much rather be turned away than be invited in and made to feel incredibly uncomfortable while trying to enjoy a nice meal. So please, next time, save someone the trouble of incredibly awkward quips and some extremely rude and unprofessional behavior from your wait staff. The food was great. Understaffed or not, the chef pulled it together and send out some incredible dishes. Which is really too bad, because with the front of the house acting like they did, displaying a total lack of regard for the customer experience and consistently delivering such rude and unprofessional service you can guarantee I will never be back. read more

I have been ordering weekly deliveries for the past 2 months. The meals are very fresh and expiration dates are placed on the containers which is helpful. I am using this service to help me get back on track with healthy meals as I do not have the time for chopping and prepping....then I find myself starving and end up relying on fast food more often than I'd like. I purchase these meals for lunch as now I will be going back to the office as the pandemic slows down. I am not a vegetarian but I am really enjoying the variety of meals and I am thankful that I can cut back on animal based protein just because that's what I'm used to.
